Update: Phone is legit, despite what engadget tries to say. Does work on AT&T 3G/HSDPA with no issues.

I have dropped my 6800 and it needs to be replaced so im going to try to get sprint to exchange it. I know im gonna have to haggle with em but hey....its worth it.

I know what you mean, but I'm more then sure you'll be able to re-train yourself. It's the same thing I went to when I went from the PPC-6700 to the PPC-6800. No idea why they switch everything around and the 1st couple of day it was annoying, but with anything, after a certain period of time I got used to it and was able to use it without going back to the old habit.

what's up with the keyboard doesn't look like anything from the htc site, hopefully att hasn't gone and tried to jazz things up their own way. The default keyboard for the touch pro is nice, with the single function digits on the top row.

The only thing that annoyed me with the touch pro from looking at from the images were that the pickup, hangup buttons and the home, back buttons should be switched or to be extended. Extending allow the user to comfortably press those buttons easily and not have accidental hangups when pressed against their face.

Thanks for the congrats whoever gave them, as for the AT&T branding it's a pre release version, as for it being euro flashed with AT&T ROM not at all. This was given to the guy as a promo for his job, he turned it on to see that it works and packed it back up because he's not even a fan of touch screen devices. He guaranteed to me in writing that it works on AT&T 3G network, so that's good enough for me or I'll cancel my credit card payment and send it back. :)

You're not that crazy, everyone in the UK who's pre-ordered it are paying £500+ including myself (although I'm getting Tomtom navigator 6 at the same time and if you knock off the cost of the software it works out I'm only paying £460 for the Touch Pro!)

Take a look at the £-$ exchange rate and you'll find you've got yourself a pretty good deal there. Mind you it is a lot to pay considering you can't guarantee you'll get 3G and you've got no tech support.

That's why I paid $900 for a TyTN II in Chicago instead of getting a ATT TILT...so I wouldn't have to deal with the usual "ATT brand crippling"! Leave it to ATT to screw things up for their own selfish reasons!

Screw that, i'd rather hit a function key and hit numbers that are in a nice tight "keypad" cluster, than not use Fn key and hit number keys that are spread out in a single row.

(Personally I think it may have eventually fetched more than this judging by UK pre-order prices)

Also, I have 100% feedback for my Ebay account too. But that didn't stop some Nigerian from hacking into my account a year and a half ago and selling something that didn't exist, and saying "Look at my 100% feedback!"

I know it's a stretch, and probably NOT the case here, but the guy said clearly, NO REFUNDS, in his auction. My prediction is that Black will have a Touch Pro that will work for voice calls on ATT, but not 3G data. We shall see...

Bottom line, there is a commercial venue from Chicago who claim that they will have these phones (compatible with AT&T) within a couple of weeks. I was quite curious about the 850 MHz feature which I had heard that would not be sold in the US, but I was reassured that this will be on and that the phone is compatible with AT&T. I was told to call in a couple of weeks when they have them and they would reassure me with certainty.

Differences?

- numbers on the keyboard are function key only buttons
- the upper most row on the keyboard is all symbols, both standard push and function push
- the top left key is a windows start menu key, the key below the right shift is OK instead of CTRL (dammit, there are SO many times ive used Ctrl V and Ctrl C with the virtual keyboard because the physical didnt have them)
-Some other button, looks like a New Note button where the Function key is on the Euro models

?? Not sure that people will be dialing from the landscape mode. The number row will make it easier when entering contacts, emails, ect... This phone should have a touch screen interface when dialing, so using the keyboard wouldnt be needed....

Quadband, yes, so they'd work here for voice and edge. No 3G for me is no go on buying a phone.

Dude I was told this by someone at UPS if you want to get your package early, tell them it's for a wedding and you were expecting it in the morning. Just bring someone with you to the package carrier who is 21 and older and have them sign for you. HTC is releasing this phone with support for North American bands, just not until the fourth quarter (that's simply a guess based on everything I've read), so what you're seeing on the Expansys site is the Euro version. Having said that, it's very believable that there are NA demo and pre-release versions floating around that the OP has (hopefully tonight) managed to get his hands on. I can't wait.

The X1 was made targeting primarily the American market, so they could want to rig it to make sure the us version of the touch pro, diamond and the x1 get out roughly around the same time, give or take a month. Most likely this is because of some sort of "fair game" agreement with HTC and sony.

If both devices were released at the same time they would be in direct competition with each other. That would be bad for HTC and even worse for Sony (as you rightly point out they would be taking more per X1 than HTC).

But by staggering the release HTC will make a metric-fuck-tonne of cash off the Diamond and the Touch Pro.

Then later, when the X1 is released and selling like hot cakes (we all know there are people who will grab both devices because they're jammy bitches like that or just plain loaded). HTC will continue to make money (albeit less per device than if they were selling Diamonds/Touch Pros).

If Sony/HTC were to release the X1 now, some of those potential sales might go to the Diamond/Touch Pro due the current air of hype around the Diamond/Touch Pro. Sony may end up selling less ultimately than if they had waited. Now assuming selling less meant that Sony didnt run out of stock then HTC wouldnt get a reorder for X1's meaning they would have made less money.

Now assuming selling less meant that Sony didnt run out of stock then HTC wouldnt get a reorder for X1's meaning they would have made less money.

Eh, it's pretty thick but definitely not a "brick" as I was expecting something close to the tilt... Maybe a little thinner, or it feels so because LxW is so much smaller. It's deceivingly heavy though, and I actually like that. Feels very solid in your hand.

God this phone is so amazing. The screen takes a little firmer press to respond than I'd like, but I know you can edit the sensitivity in the registry (or I thought I saw that). Flicking iPhone-style requires a bit more pressure than on the iPhone.

What is the build date of the rom? I have the lastest ROM (7.18.08)on the diamond and it is much faster than what was released on it. Hopefully the rom date is close to that.

What I love more than anything about that video is the chirping you hear on it.

To the best of my knowledge AT&T / Cingular is the only carrier that operates at a frequency to cause that on mic's and speakers.

Not nearly as pronounced, but yes it has that cut rear... I like the look of it. The rear is not fingerprint prone at all, but OH GOD the front attracts fingerprints like there's no tomorrow.
