Soon enough people will be getting touch pro's in their hands (lucky buggers), so it would be interesting to know how it compares with the device it is allegedly replacing, the Kaiser.
Going by the specs it should be better in all respects barring the tilting screen, scroll wheel and possibly some extra hardware buttons, but what is it like in reality? Another "what it could have been" or do we finally have "the elusive Kaiser killer".
How does it compare with the Kaiser for example in the following areas:
1) Video playback (obvious one)
2) General speed (may have more than twice the RAM and a faster processor but are they being utilised properly)
3) Camera performance (low light lag?, low FPS on video capture?)
4) GPS performance (Kaiser pretty darn good on this one)
Feel free to add any more...

I can't imagine anything the phone companies put out live up to the hype; at least with all the crapware they decide to brand it with. It took this site, great chefs, a few choice words, sweating over bricking the phone, and many hours of "dinking" to make the Wing even usable.
Let's see what happens when better cooks than I get a hold of it.

1) Even in Skyfire, viewing youtube through the browser, it streamed beautifully without a skip at any time (on wifi of course).
2) Hard to tell considering the TF3D interface, I'm pretty impressed so far as to how quick it's been, but every now and again it will have an embarrassing hiccup. Opera does not seem to be as comfortable as safari (not to bring that debate back), just doesn't flow as well when panning around web pages.
3) Low light situations aren't too bad, but oh yes, if you turn with the camera at any sort of decent speed it blurs pretty good... As long as you don't turn too much, the camcorder has a decent quality.
4) Haven't been able to use it yet, AT&T only includes their TeleNav which costs money, I need to get google maps on there.

Could you please comment on the screen brightness between the Kaiser and the Pro?
Also, how does the keyboard feel when compared to the Kaiser?
Thanks :)

I would like to have a comparison of the 3G reception quality between both devices.
Is the reception quality of "Don Raphaelo" worse, better or pretty much the same?
Please, anybody :)
It will be a buy / no-buy decision for me as the Diamond seems to have a weaker 3G reception compared to other HTC phones.

I will let you know tomorrow, touch pro waiting for me at home! Been using slingplayer on my tytn II for the past few months. My train journey in the morning loses connection for about 30 seconds in one dead area, so the journey tomorrow will be a good comparison on this one.

You could use GpsTest and see how quickly you get a fix.

Yes and please post your slingplayer experience on touch pro on the new thread I have just created.

Very interested in your experience of this too :).

Ok, good news! Although this was only one journey, I can say that the connection for me is definitely slightly better than my tytn. I only lost signal once in that dead area for around 30 seconds, but there were no other blips at all (journey is around 25 minutes).
As far as the picture goes, I can definitely say that it seemed much better. Not 100% sure whether this is due to the better screen, or increased H speed. Probably a bit of both.
This phone is awesome! Haven't found the interface to be slow at all. Guy sitting next to me has an iphone 3g and if anyone tells you that interface never lags then they are lying!
And GPS is very fast and rock solid!

What about camera? Can someone who had Kaiser before elaborate on it? Kaiser used to JUST DIE when there's low lighting. Old wizard's camera would beat kaiser's camera senseless, which I find embarrassing.

How is the keyboard of Touch pro compared to TYTNII? Size of keys? Tactile feedback?

Just as tactile. Keys are slightly smaller, but the extra row of keys is really handy. I prefer it.

Camera in Kaiser has been almost useless. Is the Raphael better or identical? They seem to have the same spes.

I am finding the lack of hardware button mapping to soft keys the biggest negative for the raphael wheras the navigation pad can compensate for the sroll wheel on the kaiser.

Coreplayer and TCPMP comparisions anyone?
I've just watched a first divx on my Touch Pro, using CorePlayer. And it was perfect. All the movie was smooth and looked great in higher resolution.
I used to experience blinking on Kaiser when the whole scene was scrolling. This effect doesn't happen here.
It seems that the processor speed and memory size are well adjusted to allow smooth video playback on 640x480 screen.
But I still have problems with TCPMP 0.72. With some movies it just freezes and won't play.
I know it's an old application with uneffective algorithms, but I was hoping the faster processor would help...
Perhaps you could recommend another video player that can handle AC3 sound?

Here's my take on the touch pro (at&t version).
I sold my tilt, which I had for over a year.
Screen MUCH clearer for these 49 year old eyes.
A little slow on the bootup, win mobile & touch flo 3d just takes a while to load.
I reboot every morning, just a habit I got into.
Screen switches MUCH faster for me than the tilt, and it does not have the little
glitch I had with the tilt, where, when you have the keyboard open, and the screen has the scroll on the side, and you close the keyboard, and the right side of the screen has a "ghost" of where the scroll bar was.
Out of the box, there was a bit of lag with touchflo3d, but, after installing the diamond touchflo3d program, making the tweaks, increasing the cache, it flies now. I dumped the "gray" at&t theme for the black one found on here.
I still have the (at&t introduced) H/3G lockout where I have to tweak the registry to keep the [H] showing up.
I like the keyboard on this one better than the tilt, but I don't use it as much as others. I come from the old palm/handspring era, where the only keyboard you had was the transcriber. I've used that for almost 10 years, and I'm just faster with it. I have the invisible shield screen protector, which I put on about a week into using it, because the included screen protector was starting to show the fact that I have a heavy hand on the screen.
Invisible shields, once you get use to them, and darn near scratch proof.
Speed wise, it appears a little faster opening and closing apps. I use a combination of Opera & skyfire. Video apps do not have the stutter/lag/jitter that I had with the tilt. I'm sure somewhere down the road the cooks will extract whatever drivers that might work, and offer them up for the tilt.
Camera wise, I really like it. It snaps pictures a little better than the tilt,
although I can't figure out why they removed the dedicated camera button.
Simple fix...I used one of the reg hacks I found on here to dedicate the PTT
button to act as the camera button.
For now, I'm leaving the stock at&t rom on this one, since I just don't want to hassle with using an SPL and flashing cooked roms.
