i admire your time and hard work put into this application. i was just able to test it out, so far good, had to play around a little bit to get familiar with the features, otherwise packs a punch, it's a very useful application. thanks once again and keep the updates coming !

i just gotta say that im loving this one!!! thanx for your hard work, IMHO it is one of the better threaders out there, if not the best.. cant wait to install the new update!!!! thanx bud!!! :) .... just an opinion, it would be nice if we could make the txt bold, not a biggie, also if we could have a vibrate option, but again its just an opinion... regardless im a happy camper!!

IMSMS is now 1.0b1!

(go to post #1) for new link!
here's what's happening:

Changes in 1.0b1:
==============
TOO MANY TO LIST HERE:

But, highlights are:

* 100% compatible with you phone book! That means whatever number you have in your phone book for the person you are messaging will be tracked by IMSMS!

* No more +1 country codes, etc. You leave your phone book as-is!

* AUTO START IMSMS when incoming messages arrive - that means you don't have to start IMSMS program to receive messages - when an incoming message arrives, it will auto start IMSMS and track your messages ;)

* Accepts all incoming messages regardless if they are in your friends list or not. No more anonymous logs to deal with!

* 90% code revision to the IMSMS engine - (there's a separate library to work with in the future) - released 1.0 final.

* improved multi -threading fixes and now should be a bit more robust

* Menu system is compacted

* Easier to manage friends list

* Dynamic alerts are super improved!

* new incoming/outgoing sounds

...there are many internal fixes - and bugs are still being tracked and optimisations are still ongoing.

Some notes:
==========
* in this current version, you will experience some slowdown issues when searching for contacts via your phone book (Action->Manage->Manage Friends). This is due to lack of optimisations - I had to bug out other core engine issues first - this is really minor because you don't spend much time managing your list anyway in this improved version!

* Emoticons are a pain in the butt - I will revise a different approach to this. It's off by default - due to the way PocketIE handles images on smartphones

* You will notice a "lag" when you hit the middle button to SEND/or the from the ACTION->SEND MESSAGE - You will hear a sound to identify your message is sending....but you will lag for a second or two - this is part anti-spam/flood feature - but also an IMSMS engine threading issue - that is still being decided at the moment. It's totally normal.

* AUTO START ON MESSAGE RECEIVED (inside, the MENU->Settings->Preferences menu, is where you should check if you want IMSMS to auto start whenever you get an incoming SMS. You will need to restart IMSMS after you enable this in order for it to work. You will also do the same when you disable it.

* The "HELP" menu will be redone.
* Custom sounds is coming real soon
* Multi-language is being tested right now
* PocketPC specific version is almost finished as well
* SMS data counters are coming in b2
* group send feature is being worked on as well and will be in b3
* Last but not least, due to the 90% code revision, it was decided this way because in version 2.0, there will be another IMSMS version that will utilize
custom graphics - the UI will be utilizing the IMSMS library.

There may be one or two buggys left out - but if you find them, please let me know. My email address is in the HELP->About menu. It's also on the new website.

TUTORIAL IS COMING SHORTLY. If you feel that you are a hogwarts supreme wizard, go ahead and try 1.0b1 without a manual. It should be the same as the previous builds except that it's much improved. The manual will include video demonstration for the one's who don't want to read text ;)

Thank you all for your support, email me anytime for comments - good and bad :)

those who have downloaded the 10.15.07 1PM installer, go back and REDOWNLOAD the new link : 10.15.07 2PM installer version.

The 1pm file is incorrect - because it does not contain the fix to correctly show your incoming messages time. the 2PM file download (uploaded already) has the fix for you.

I'd appreciate it greatly if you would remove all references to the .cab install files posted here - get them from the home site instead because I do not want outdated builds being posted here - nor builds that are not coming from me directly. Since these builds are NOT SIGNED, whatever you download from XDA forums is at your own risk -

Please remove and download from the home site. Both .zip and .cab originals have been posted already on the home site :)

HI -

I assure you there's nothing wrong code wise with IMSMS that will prevent capturing of messages. It registers the hooks needed to capture - there can be many reasons why it won't capture -

If another program that has run before IMSMS can cause messages to not be passed to IMSMS as well. IMSMS by default will capture all messages and not notify other apps of incoming messages. WIth the SMS NOTIFY OTHER APPS feature on, it will release the message to other applications. I cannot say for other applications doing the same when run before IMSMS is started.

Ensure that your phone is rebooted and no other apps have previously been run in the background before IMSMS is started.

PPC is going to get revamped big time. I see that there are many interested users on the PPC platform - I am going to rewrite some features and UI controls for the PPC platform specifically. So hang in there - the Beta 2 will feature new stuff for PPC users.

Build 5203 is for PPC and preferences should save just fine - delete your data.dat file if you are having issues.

Just in case something is screwy, by default, the only two selected were Play Incoming and Play Outgoing message sound.

I have found that settings do not save unless you have at least one friend added as a contact. I scratched my head for an hour or so until I stumbled onto the solution for this.

Also, I have noticed that if you clear your chat log the screen doesn't refresh the conversation to show a blank page. I have to switch to another friend and back before it is cleared.

This is indeed a head scratcher - and also a head pounder. Most of the testers already had names added to their friends list - so they did not experience any problems - however, this should be resolved in the newest builds.

Builds 5370 PPC and 5270 Smartphone both have significant enhancement to the user interface when sending messages. It's really worth the update if you haven't already done so.

Thanks again for your contribution/Support!

Anyway to have the sound options controlled with the system sounds? E.g When I put the phone on silent your app will still fire using the app-designated sounds. Problematic at times.

Also, I like that you have set up a reoccurring reminder sound option for when an SMS is missed. The other apps don't have that. Now if only there was a way to have an icon appear on the home screen when an SMS has not been opened.

Hi there,

Build 5400 is pre-beta 2 - it is a milestone release - and should give you a performance boost because some of the internal changes include caching which improves performance.

I will release today midday or so. Some testers are testing right now before I release it.

The icon has been talked about - for PPC, there will be balloon notifications and for smartphones, a vibration feature. THe icon may not make it to final build :(

The sounds will adjust according to profile settings - but for now, I shouldinclude a mute button :D

Thanks for your help gadgetshrink - I'll post up in a little while.

In case this slipped by your beta testers, I installed the 5290 build yesterday and noticed that now you cannot select custom sound files. It lets you select a directory 1x but then does not allow you to use the D-pad to scroll up and down.

Lastly, for future builds, I would love to see a way to know on the main screen who has outstanding text messages rather than just the 'Text Alert (x)' ...I think that is what it says now. For now, may even have it as a selectable option that when selected mimics the menu => alerts feature.

HI -

Here's how you can tell if something is wrong with IMSMS or the phone itself:

a) IF THE INTERNAL MESSAGING HOOK is not registered, IMSMS will not receive any messages. In fact, they will be going to your outlook system inbox.

b) If something is wrong with IMSMS, a threading issue, you will NOT receive ANY incoming messages - until you exit IMSMS.

If you are getting case A, then you should try to shutdown your dash and restart it back up. Latest build is 5400 - uninstall and then reinstall then shutdown your phone and restart.

Ensure no other apps that captures incoming messages are being run as well. I've experienced these breaking hooks sometimes but it only happens when I install/reinstall 20 times in a row (during testing).

I assure you, it works - many users have reported IMSMS working to spec - try it again and email directly if you are still having issues - I'm here to help you the best I can :)

Thank you,

THis is again fixed for the last time (I don't know how many times the old code gets slipped into the newer builds!) - but 5400 is the creme. Give it a shot - it addresses both directory (data path selection) and file selection (custom sounds - when you can't select a file/directory - focus is lost)

Dynamic alerts is what you see in the MENU - ALERTS - it will display a selection for you to show you outstanding messages. The audio sound is also available as an option - V2 will have custom components - the real estate is limited on the poor smartphone - even though it is technically QVGA (320x240) landscape, without custom graphics you cannot achieve what you are asking for. IT's not a difficult item to make - but for now, dynamic alerts and audio alerts will have to suffice in this version. Yes, future version will be better I promise :) But you have to start somewhere ;)

Let me know if you have any questions - anytime

Hi,

I know in BUILD 5400, there is a new process/functionality - it is the caching of the system contacts book. There are a few reasons for this.

By default, when you compose an SMS message in Windows Mobile (smartphone), you would have to select a contact from your systems contact book - now that is ONE AT A TIME - there is no MULTIPLE SELECTION available.

This is fine and dandy for normal SMS. In IMSMS, you have a contacts management functionality that is different from the system's contact book UI. It is a custom UI that loads up the contacts and allows you to manually add/remove contacts to your friends list. The dilemma for me is:

a) I need to be able to manage the contacts efficiently. Everytime you add/remove a contact via the MANAGE FRIENDS menu, you get the loading of the custom contacts page UI that loads all the system contacts so you can choose multiple selected contacts to add to the friends list.

Before 5400 build was released, I have written out a very slick process - that allows you to load up the contacts quickly - basically zero load times. However it will load dynamically when you scroll thru the list. I am working on another process that will allow you to jump to specific contacts based on letter of name (just like the system contact book - press J to jump to (J)ason, (J)ack, etc.). This process did not get finished in time for 5400.

b) I created a caching page - when you first startup IMSMS - it will multi-thread cache your system contacts - it uses more memory but allows you to view your entire contacts page (allowing you to add/remove) on the fly - without slowdowns. The only caveat is that on some smartphones with REALLY LARGE contacts, 1000+, it can take up to a few minutes (this is multi-threaded though).

I know that option A is the best - I need to refine it more. However, with option B in place in build 5400, I think I will put in a temporary solution - to allow you to select "NO CACHING OF SYSTEM CONTACTS" when IMSMS start's up. This will help some of you who have large contacts.

Now note this: You never need to add ANY CONTACTS to your friends list. When you receive an incoming message and for example that sender is already in your system contact book, it will automatically be added to the friends list with their name. If it's a stranger (not listed in your system contact book), it will still get added but without a name. Everything is tracked - logs will be assigned respectively to each sender.

Even if you don't save your friends list, the chat logs don't get erased unless you manually delete them. So the next time you start up IMSMS without any friends and the same sender sends you a message, their chat logs will reappear. Now the only thing is if you would like to converse with someone in your contacts list, you simply can add them (VIA THE QUICK ADD FRIEND) menu under the MANAGE menu. This will allow you to use the system contact book to add each contact to the friends list - ONE BY ONE - the same way the system SMS message composer does. This way, you can bypass the Manage Friends menu option. However, you can imagine if you wanted to add 10 friends at once, it can get tedious with the "QUICK ADD FRIEND" menu option - so using the custom contact (MANAGE FRIENDS) is still the best option.

I will most likely implement option A above and I know for sure all of you will appreciate the extra effort - I just wanted to be a bit long winded to let you all know that I do in fact hear your suggestions and I actually incorporate all of your feedback into the design aspect of IMSMS. I appreciate all of your support - and like always - email me if you have any questions please!

Sincerely,
DSO

You ever feel like - no one's listening? :D

I've been searching for the same answer and I've just accepted "NO" as the answer for now. BTW: I'm using the proxy setting with port 8080 for internet and I can surf just fine. I also have the modem connection to get emails but I haven't been able to log into windows live since I've upgraged to this ROM. Please post back if you've found a work-around.

Build 5500

Now released - "caching" is now removed. There is a brand new contacts management for those that have contacts in the 1000+. You will like it - at least you get almost no delays now when starting up (when loading saved friends).

This release is a solid build - install for those who haven't - if you have previous builds, I strongly recommend you install this update. (see home site for release notes)

This will be the many last updates I will push out - I will collect the feedback from testers and then compile a final release build. It was fun making this - now it's time to focus on PPC builds and v2 redesign.

Please email me or private message me if you have any questions. Thanks again for all your support - it's been a fun development cycle.

:)

God Bless,

Still receiving incomplete messages. I sent you the archived chat log.

Thank you for sending me the log file - I needed that to analyze the problem. It is now fixed: Build 5520 has the fix you need.

IMSMS still captured all the text sent from your chatbot - but the rendering engine did not display the message in full. The message is intact so rest assured your message(s) are safe - just the rendering engine did not complete its duty when it encountered a line feed from your chat bot. There is also a new Log Viewer program updated with this fix as well. Download at your leisure.

All is well now - download and test for yourself.

Hi,

I am very happy to announce IMSMS now supports MULTI-LANGUAGES!!

Yes, that means all the Chinese language devices can now send and receive in Chinese, the Japanese language devices can send/read with IMSMS - even Russian, Italian, etc.

However, IMSMS is NOT localized with menus adapting to your regional language. So you will have to view the tutorials to get an understanding of the features - although it's easy to understand (I hope) ;)

Custom preset text messages do however support your language setting - and everything else works with your language defaults.

In simple terms, IMSMS can now read and write in your specific language. It does not mean that an ENGLISH/US only language phone can read CHINESE. Your phone MUST support the default code page (language) in order to do so. For those who want to use this version (I'm assuming everyone who is NON-USA or even if you are in the US), you will enjoy this version for sure!

Please go to the IMSMS home site for download links. Both .zip and .cab files are ready to for download. Please report any bugs to me via email or private message. I want to thank all of you who have waited for multi-language support for being so patient!

Thanks again for all of your support,

Is there any way to make the text box on the bottom with new lines being added to the bottom instead of the top? Also, is there a way to use an existing database for existing messages?

IMSMS exports all logs to XML. YOu can use the IMSMS log viewer to view your chat log files or you can create your own XML parser to read them.

There's no need for database to store the messages - it would be nice to have database for storing the logs, but the added overhead is too much for most device owners - IMSMS is designed to be run with the bare minimum basic hardware space and without additional installs (such as a sql database).

As for the text question, the simple answer is NO - the text input area is above the display area - unless you have it in the traditional arrangement (chat text on top, input text on bottom), having the text scrolled to the bottom is necessary - with IMSMS, the design is opposite so having text up top is logical.

DSO -

I am unable to get the alert reminder sound to save with the newest build downloaded from your website. Also, at times which I cannot pin down, a text will come in but IMSMS will not notify that a new one has arrived; however when I flip through my friends, I do find it. It seems to happen when IMSMS is already open and being actively used.

I have also had the program shut-down when too many programs are active. This is most concerning to me as I do not want to miss my texts. Due to these reasons, I cannot keep running the app continuously and have had to revert back to using the standard SMS client.

My still biggest wish, is that the program use the system profiles which also means you would use the envelope icon on top just like the standard SMS system when a new text has arrived. I see that the newest app on the block, Extreme Text from Birdsoft does that effectively but does offer even close to other customizations that your app does.

I'll keep a close eye on future builds and wish you luck!

Try the newest builds - see home site for updated downloads - (this will fix your custom sound issues).

AS for the app closing, it's an automated WINDOWS MOBILE process when your device runs low on memory or when too many applications are open at one time. Shut down your other applications if this happens to your smartphone. The memory footprint for IMSMS is around 2-5MB max (not optimized state) - I am monitoring the performance counters and reviewing internal code to ensure the lowest memory usage. Speed = more memory; If you want less memory usage, you will compromise speed. IMSMS is designed to be balanced but as of now, it's biased towards speed.

The notification icon has been requested - it's still in debate - primarily because of the "SMS Notify Other applicatons" feature in IMSMS - as a courtesy option to other applications, IMSMS will pass the message along to those apps intercepting - but if your default outlook inbox collects that passed message, the icon will appear -

IMSMS has an AUTO DISPLAY feature - which will bring itself to the top if hidden when new messages arrive (except when device is locked or set to auto lock). Whether or not IMSMS will include a notification ICON is still being decided for the smartphone edition - PPC has unique features in beta2.

Thanks for your support!

Thanks for the answers. For the database, I meant, can it use existing messages? A new commercial app Extreme Text can use messages already in the phone.

For the text boxes, I meant is there an option for the "traditional" view?

Hi All-

I'm releasing version 1.0!

Thanks to everyone who has tested IMSMS - it's now officially released!

I suggest everyone to download this version if they haven't already. Here are the list of changes for the 1.0 release:

October 31, 2007 - 10/31/2007:

IMSMS Build Version 1.0.100:
========================
* Initial Release

Release Notes:
============
* Optimized Options menu - color options should load slightly faster
* IMSMS Engine Error output enabled - the core engine is now enabled to write messages to a log file (see your program files/IMSMS directory)
* Fixed IMSMS exit routines - now will properly dispose of resources
* Error handling added for all XML functions
* Fixed Sound asynchronous playback issues - will now play one sound at a time
* Fixed unicode double encoding - some users who send out mutlibyte characters will see a ? question mark - this issue is now fixed
* Fixed AUTO START - when enabled, IMSMS will auto start itself upon receive of new incoming message(s). It will also display an alert for the new message properly.
* Fixed internal "QUICK ADD" unicode encoding issue
* When setting chat log storage path, be sure to RESTART IMSMS so that the chat logs path will register properly.
* History file added - now ALL messages will be capture in RAW format into a text file. You can view this by selecting the MENU->Chat Logs->History Log
* Added UI background color option
* Added chat log display background color option
* Added option to confirm SAVE upon exit of IMSMS
* Disabled Dynamic Group Send feature (until future update)
* Disabled internal SMS counters (until future update)
* Optimized memory usage (10-15% less memory usage)

AUTO START FEATURE explained:
=============================
AUTO START in IMSMS allows any new incoming text message to auto start IMSMS - even when IMSMS is NOT RUNNING. To allow this feature, you must enable it in the SETTINGS -> PREFERENCES MENU option. You must then SAVE your settings and then SHUT DOWN IMSMS. After shutting IMSMS down, you must RESTART IMSMS. This will turn on the auto start feature. Now you can simply EXIT IMSMS. The next incoming message will auto start IMSMS. To disable this feature, you must have IMSMS running. Go to the SETTINGS -> PREFERENCES MENU and disable the AUTO START option. Save your settings, and then shut down IMSMS. Next, restart IMSMS back up and AUTO START will be cleared.

AUTO DISPLAY FEATURE explained:
===============================
AUTO DISPLAY feature in IMSMS will automatically bring IMSMS to the foreground if it is hidden. This happens when a new incoming message arrives and IMSMS is hidden. It will not bring itself to display if you have your phone locked. It will auto select the default friend in your friends list when it brings itself to the foreground. Any new messages that is not coming from the selected friend shall be displayed in a notification alert and dynamic alert (Menu->Alerts).

Chat Log Storage Path:
======================
When changing the path to where the chat log files are stored, be sure to RESTART IMSMS in order for the new data path to be set. If you have old chat log files in a directory you wish to have IMSMS load, simply set the chat log path in the MENU->PREFERENCES and RESTART IMSMS. The program will reload all your existing chat log files.

IMSMS

Attention ALL TMOBILE DASH USERS (how to fix your "not receiving incoming messages":

IMSMS may not work on your phone due to the fact if you have upgraded from WM5 to WM6 yourself, there is broken interface in Windows Mobile 5 that prevents standard sms message interceptions. In order to fix this, go ahead and try the following:

Navigate to your phone's system registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Software\Inb ox\Svc\Sms\Rules

Within the above entry will be two:

{1000BC1C-F4A3-4210-B197-4AEBF2CEE6F5}

{77990A0E-60B8-4103-B9AF-17157E4274FD}

Or anything else that may be listed in that registry entry -

make sure you back up your registry before you proceed:

DELETE THEM ALL ***EXCEPT THE TWO ABOVE***. All of the entries listed under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Software\Inb ox\Svc\Sms\Rules

REBOOT your Tmobile Dash - then everything should work with IMSMS and other applications.

(the source was from Peter Foot's Windows Mobile Blog).

I did not forget this request ;-) On the PPC platform, this is a NO - but on the smartphone, this should be a yes - There's some more features being added - so it will arrive in time. I hope the current version has enough features - (which I truly believe it is feature packed).

Love the app, really the only thing missing IMHO is some sort of homescreen visual notification. Yes, the auto-open is nice, but what if I dont want to read all the messages at that time? I get a lot of messages because of work and I'd like to be able to get a 'preview' of the messages before I read them, so that I can sort of ... save them as new in a way. Perhaps make the IMSMS home page be a list of people who have new conversations/messages, if more than one person? Then, we could click on the person and view their conversation.

Now that I think abou tit, I don't particularly like that message aren't available in the standard SMS client. If I have some sort of unexpected problems with IMSMS then I don't want to be SOL. Is there any way to use the same database for the messages? Maybe make it an option?

If you have it set to pass on the info to the default client, it will give you homescreen notification, for my phone it is the envelope at the top of the screen. I think the term outlook is confusing people, but I think he was referring to the built-in client that is used for SMS/MMS.

Hmmm, will check that. I thought I did have it set to that.. but still no notifications.

Also, as it is now.. lets say while I'm sleeping I get 8 new messages. I pick up my phone and the IMSMS window has auto-opened. It defaults to the first contact in the list, even if there's no new messages from him. If I have 20 contacts in that list, I have to scroll threw each contact, looking at the dates and times to see who sent me a list. I actually have to look at every one of them, in case more than one person sent me something. Is there currently some way to determine how many new messages there are, and from who. (will check the 'outlook' settings)

Perhaps I have something misconfigured?

Try menu then alerts, that should show who has sent you messages, when you have new ones.

CSWROE is the man ;-)

The reason behind not placing an icon -

ON THE Tmobile DASH/HTC S620/710, the icon appears when you have incoming SMS (by default, the outlook inbox is exactly what CSWROE explained - I am referring to your default system inbox - it is an "outlook" inbox - because you are using Windows Mobile, I refer to it as the default outlook inbox).

The default icon can represent SMS or MMS. I did not implement an icon because MMS is entirely separate from SMS. You would get confused to which inbox (IMSMS' or the default mms inbox) had new incoming messages.

SMS Notify Other Applications is meant as a "courtesy option" - to be nice to other programs that also collect incoming messages - rather than have NO option to pass the message along to other applications, IMSMS can be configured to pass a copy.

You must think in terms of Instant Messaging - there is no "preview" because you are viewing instant messages.

You may want to visit the home site for the online tutorials - just to elaborate on some of the features:

*SMS notifications - in case you missed sender's messages. Audio alerts as well.
* Dynamic Alerts - it's basically caller ID - will display a list of friends that has messaged you but you aren't viewing at the moment.
* Enable Messages Instant Update - allows messages to appear instantly even if you aren't chatting with the friend sending you the message.
* One View - enables you to have all messages appear in one view rather than separate views - IMSMS will also separate the messages respectively so when you disable One View, your chat logs will still get updated.
* SMS archiving - allows you to back up all your messages - and be reviewed on a desktop pc - OR inside your phone -the core engine wraps the logs into XML and you can either use the IMSMS Log Viewer program or make your own XML parser to view the messages.

There are numerous VIDEOS demonstrating the process flow of IMSMS. I took time to make these so anyone interested in NOT READING how-to documents can visit the tutorials.

In all, these are just some of the features - IMSMS has alot of features - when you use the program extensively, you will understand the design a bit more. On the Smartphone, you don't have a touchscreen for navigation - being FAST and able to switch friends/logs is very effective in IMSMS (I believe so).

<begin salesman>
I designed the program to try to accomodate everyone. I don't know about other applications out there that has as many features as IMSMS - it even supports multi-languages and common customizations.

I know there are some who may not like IMSMS - You are free to use whatever you like - I personal see a huge number of features for as little as $0. I am happy if more than one person on this planet uses IMSMS - I'm happy to build upon it.

Like I said before, please be patient with the program - I am designing some custom components - when it is all ready to go, I guarantee you that there will be no other sms threading program on this planet at least that is FREE that can match IMSMS' entire package.

<end salesman>

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. I'm more than happy to ensure you get what you ask for. Features, you name it - I will try to accomodate.

Thanks again for all your support - CSWROE - thank's for helping out with the questions. I will post up an FAQ

BTW - if you guys don't mind letting me know - do you guys like the tutorials/videos/guides?

I will be adding more and more guides- remember, it's used to help those who have no experience and really toned down for the neutral tech folks - all you smart people will probably say it's too darn easy ;)

IMSMS Core Performance Update:

THIS is a PERFORMANCE UPDATE - this will be the ONLY time there is a revision in the core engine - enough to warrant an ARCHIVE and DELETE process of your chat logs. Please follow the instructions below:

Release Notes Build (1.0.210):
==============================
*** IMPORTANT *** - YOU must ARCHIVE all our chat logs and DELETE THEM ALL before you can use this version.

* IMSMS Core Engine performance update - the core engine is modified and is even more robust and quicker than ever before.
* Fixed pre-set text message focus - when browsing your chat log, focus is lost when selecting a preset message to send.
* Fixed Unicode issue - affects PRE-1.0.210 builds only

Please, if you are using PRE 1.0.210 versions, archive your logs and then delete them all before sending messages. This is the only time you will need to do this ever - there is an internal performance rewrite - this is necessary.

This will be last update for weekend - Thanks again for your support,

Hi, thanks a lot for the IMSMS program, I found it very usefull.

I would like to ask if you can give some more supports on the "multi-language support" feature. It is because Cantonese and Mandarin is my native languages, and I usually type and recieve SMS with chinese characters in form of "traditional chinese" and "simplified chinese". As I read the chinese messages (for both traditional & simplified chinese characters), I found that "?? ....??" appeared occasional especially for the simplified chinese characters. So, I would like to raise this question to you, hope you can help.

THANKS A LOT!

Hi Ken-

I have VERY LIMITED testers for Chinese encoding - Please tell me in your case, does the unencoded character appear WHEN YOU SEND or WHEN YOU RECEIVE? If it's sending, I can fix in next revision - because I have some special encoding when sending that I may need to address I may have missed in the previous versions.

But you must let me know the details because that's the only way I can trace the encoding problem. Thanks again - please email/private message me anytime!

Thanks for your prompt reply.
The unencoded characters appear when I send and receive. For the "traditional characters", unencoded problem seems to appear randomly (approx. 8 out of 10 attempts). For the rest 2 tries, I can get the complete message correctly (same message is used for this test); while for the "simplified characters" the error rate is 100%.
The unencoded characters are displayed in form of "??????".
Should you need any further details, please feel free to tell me. Thanks!

I have one more question, is it possible to change the text size in IMSMS?

Thanks for your prompt reply.
The unencoded characters appear when I send and receive. For the "traditional characters", unencoded problem seems to appear randomly (approx. 8 out of 10 attempts). For the rest 2 tries, I can get the complete message correctly (same message is used for this test); while for the "simplified characters" the error rate is 100%.
The unencoded characters are displayed in form of "??????".

HI Ken,

I will address the Chinese encoding when I get back. Right now, just bear with it - it just has to do with the ROM version you are using as well - I will address this so no worries :)

As for text sizes, I will address - there's some new stuff coming down the pipeline for IMSMS. I will let you know soon enough :)

Hi Everyone-

Yes, I'm going on break now :) Officially.

BUT before I do....

I have one version to release before I go on break - this release will benefit both PPC and smartphone users - PPC users get the same internal fixes and optimizations as the smartphones BUT the smartphones have something different!

Build 1.0.220

Please review the home site RELEASE NOTES. I strongly recommend those who have previous versions upgrade to this version - it has much improvement and a fix for the Dynamic Alerts.

http://dsosoftware07.googlepages.com/imsms-versionreleasenotes

Thanks again - I'll be re-reading all posts and emails when I get back in a day or two. Cheers everyone - and don't hesistate to ask questions! I'm sure at least ONE person here can answer your question(s).

Thanks again!

Next Revision Features:

I'm back! ;) but I'll be off and on because I am pushing a HUGE release in the next version - right now, 1.0.220 is the most stable version which also reduces memory usage more so than any previous builds. You guys will love the feature list coming up! ( I only list a few because there are more secrets to unveil when it's ready;))

PPC Version 1.1!!
Dynamic Group Send capability - send messages to groups - but with a twist! ;)
CUSTOMIZABLE RENDERING ENGINE!
AUTOBOT mode

The most significant will be the CUSTOMIZABLE RENDERING ENGINE. It will allow you to never before in any other threaded chatting program to fully CUSTOMIZE the way IMSMS will look! Is this something of a gimmick? NO, you will see how it works when I push this out in the next release (THIS WEEK!).

That's all for now -

Note: I'm working on bettering the multi-language support - so those that use languages other than english - use as is for now - hang in there :)

It will be very nice when You get the next release! The best version!!

DSO -

I'm trying the new release. I really notice the performance increase and smoother functioning overall since the last build I tried.

One thing I've noticed is that when the person in your friend's list is selected and a new text comes in, no alert notification is sent out. This makes good sense when I have the program open, but when it is running in the background, I don't realise I have a text. Am I doing something wrong?

Second, I've noticed that with this release, I cannot turn off the 'SMS Notify Other Applications' by unchecking the box. I had this options set in previous builds and now cannot get IMSMS to stop sending the text to the default SMS box.

Third, I've been trying to get IMSMS to play nice with SmartToolKit. I have not notified the other developer as of yet, but when I have IMSMS running and use the screensaver/Keylock with SmartToolkit, the texts do not come through nor are they recovered later. This only occurs when IMSMS is NOT running in the background already. I suspect that SmartToolkit prevents IMSMS from opening for some reason which causes the texts to be lost. Not looking for any miracles here, but wanted to let you know.

Fourth, I can't WAIT until you can figure out how to get the icon notification on the homescreen. Love the option!

Fifth, anyway to change the vibrate options to: Vibrate Always, Vibrate Only, Vibrate Off?

Good work!

1) The performance features in 1.0.220 is great - i spent some time working on optimizing the threaded engine. It is very fast and robust.

2) When you have your friend selected, obviously you are conversing with that person - so IMSMS will not need to alert you if the incoming text is sent FROM that selected friend (very obvious) - when IMSMS is in the background, all you would have to do is set AUTO DISPLAY - it will auto display IMSMS - the next build will also include a sound/vibration if the message is coming in from the same selected person you have selected in the list box - but IMSMS is in the background - this is very trivial to do - so it will be included in the next release.

3) BOTH "SMS NOTIFY OTHER APPS" and "AUTO START" requires you SAVE AND RESTART IMSMS AFTER you enable/disable the feature. SImple uncheck it, save your settings, then exit IMSMS - then RESTART IMSMS.

4) I have not worked with SmartToolkit - I do not know what it does - IMSMS does nothing but work with internal outlook hooks - it won't do anything else except handle your sms messages. It could be possible any other application is causing the hooks to break - or be blocked - that's a "use at your own discretion type" of disclaimer - I can't possibly expect other applications to not break anything - I only deal with my own application and IMSMS plays very nice with others.

5) Home screen icon is a disappointment - because one, you don't want to actually place your own icons there - it's already crowded with the system icons - right now, the icons will show up almost anywhere you navigate on your phone - except when you MAKE A PHONE CALL or at your home screen - I could write a plugin - but there may be another solution. At least you get color icons to alert different scenarios in IMSMS.

6) Vibrate is initially designed - to be on of off. You turn on Vibrate, you get vibrate on incoming and/or outgoing messages. You turn off vibrate, you get sounds instead (if you have them enabled). The sound and vibration is separate from the system profiles - just because one, they are easily accessed from IMSMS when you want to enable/disable. Second, changing profiles is another step required - so to make it super easy, it's separate.

Hope this helps answer some of your questions-

I will continue to improve upon the program - many features will be added - so hang in there :)

HI,

Will anyone submit for me an HTML template with the graphics that you would like to view as an example? I'm not a graphic designer - but if you think you'd like to take part in history ;), feel free to send me a template. This is for the next major release of IMSMS.

What I will need in the template - Anything you can design - that you think would be a hot skin for the rendering of incoming/outgoing text messages.

So you would basically design an html page with graphics included (if you'd like) and for now, just put in dummy values - such as the date/times, sender names, chat text etc. It's a mock up so that I can present to the world -
(it's basically skinning - does not need to be complicated - just imagine the way you would want IMSMS to look like - the chat portion)

I will be selecting a few submissions - to be used as a primary skinning example in the next release. I normally never "ask" for anything - but this time, I think it will serve everyone very well if you think you have the design skills and want to take part in history ;)

thanks again, feel free to ask me more details if you aren't quite clear about the request.

edit: forgot to add: you will work with resolution of 320x(unlimited)

Build 1.0.300

This one is great - as promised, this version supports FULL SKINNABLE interface - don't let the word skin fool you - What I mean to say is that there are numerous complaints about aesthetics - well, now you are on your own ;) IMSMS now supports full SKINNING of the log files! It's as easy as HTML and CSS and whatever you wish to throw at it! ;)

Please see home site for guidance on this new feature - it's a first for any sms threaded application to support this! (I hope so)

There is one default HTML template file I have included in this release. It is located in the \My Documents\IMSMS\SKINS\ folder. Navigate there and you will see a skin.htm file. Open it up - read it - it's just plain CSS with a simple table - the design is totally up to the end user now.

Dress up the incoming/outgoing text as you like - then simply upload the new skin.htm file into the directory of your choice - you can set this via the "SETTINGS->PREFERENCES->Enable Custom Skin menu option.

Check that box, a directory loading screen will show up - just load the directory where you're skin.htm file is. IMSMS will render the rest whenever there is NEW incoming/outgoing text. YOu can make changes ON THE FLY by simply dropping a new skin.htm file back on your phone!

It's cool.

What's new in 1.0.300 - PPC is now legit - The UI has been dressed up a bit (cleaned up) and now you have full notifications! In the very next build release, you will see IMSMS harness the power of the ppc - for now, just enjoy what you didn't have before because PPC editions were on the backburner ;)

There's a bunch of fixes/additions - check out the release notes for details. I am still working on the SKIN GUIDE - so email me if you have questions. Enjoy this release - at least you have a choice to dress up your own chat program!

List of changes for 1.0.300

SMARTPHONE UI Adjustments (very clean)
PPC UI adjustments! (very clean)
PPC Dynamic Notifications! (color coded Alert Icons) - CLICK functionality is in next release (when you click on the colored icon, a list of missed senders (dynamic alerts) will be show. When you click on the sender's name, nothing will happen - UNTIL next release!
Fixed Dynamic Alerts/Notification Alerts - when starting IMSMS without any friends loaded; You choose to add friends from the manage friends OR "quick add friend" menu; you load the friends into the list; when a message arrives, Dynamic/Normal Alert is not shown and the respective chat log does not appear. This is fixed in both Smartphone and PPC editions.
Added new feature: Skinning! - See online help tutorial!
Added One View mode (convenience feature): when you send outgoing messages in ONE VIEW mode, the name of the friend you sent the text to will appear in the ONE VIEW chat log next to your name (Me): (Johnson, Jacksun) Hi there!
Adjusted UI size - smaller friends list font size, smaller text input entry area, to give way for larger chat log viewing * Added new ring tone when incoming messages arrive and you have proper friend already selected - but IMSMS is hidden in background, additional ringtone will be played (if enabled).
Internal AUTOBOT functionality is being tested in this version (not enabled yet)...
Internal Dynamic Group Send is being tested in this version (not enabled yet)...
Still investigating some minor issues with Unicode text - I am still working on reported claims of Chinese simplified fonts not working. Also note that there is no language support for your PPC/Smartphone unless your phone operates using the same code page as the incoming text messages. That means you cannot expect to read Chinese if your phone does not support the Chinese encoding.

What's next is 1.1 release for PPC and smartphone - it will be exciting because not only is IMSMS very robust and fast, it's going to get better - you have my word!

And it's FREE!

SO - if you haven't already gotten a the 1.0.300 version, please download and use it - you dont' have to use custom skins to get it to work - it's very cleaned up and the UI is better (even if it's subtle). You will like it!

Thanks,
DSO

Thanks to WB - and others for all your support - hope you guys like it - if you don't, go have a hamburger!

That's what I've done. I've also tried rebooting after unchecking the box and saving settings. Still feeds each text to the default SMS box.

4) I have not worked with SmartToolkit - I do not know what it does - IMSMS does nothing but work with internal outlook hooks - it won't do anything else except handle your sms messages. Fair enough. It's another developer spreading love on the Window Mobile community like you. Link here if you want to check it out.

I guess I'm of a different idea here where I think the homescreen icon would not be crowded. I'd rather have an icon complimenting the other icons (e.g. white Envelope and IM icon) that would appear only when a text comes through. But if I'm in the minority, I certainly understand. I appreciate the effort.

I understand the logic. Just suggesting that it might be nice to have a sound and vibrate notification at times.

One thing in the newest build, I've had difficulty getting the cursor in the box where you compose the text message. Where you cannot just move from friends, to compose box, to threaded text in any combination. I hope that makes sense.

Thanks for all the responses and hard work!

IMSMS

Gadgetshrink-

In .300, you have to move UP to get back on the text entry area - just hit it a few times, you will see it - the text entry area is expanding full width of screen to allow for more text entry - so the cursor may seem to get smaller - or you can use the ACTION->TEXT ENTRY MODE to get back on the text entry area.

For PPC - when you change friends, the list box will remain focused so you can cycle through the list of friends.

Guys, Custom SKinning is great - you can set your own text size, font style, colors, graphics, etc. You just build it yourself to your own liking - More internal codes will be released so you can use different options for your customizations - such as custom date formats/times, etc.

---DSO

PS - for SMS NOTIFY or AUTO START activations, check the EngError.txt file - send me the file or look at it yourself to see if the option(s) are activated - the engine will tell you so.
Send me that file for diagnostics if you'd like please.

Just wanted to let you all know, Version 1.1 will be the final release of IMSMS - I will continue to support the program, but Version 1.1 is expected to be a fully polished/optimized version that will include some new features (such as Dynamic Group Send) and a few more here and there.

I will conclude this journey until I get enough support for Version 2.0 or when unexpected bugs pop up.

There's a personal reason for this departure - and I may share it with you all soon enough. Thank you for your patience and continued support!

IMSMS Skinning Guide

Here's what skinning can do for you in IMSMS ;) You can totally change the way the application looks - to your liking - change fonts, text size, coloring, graphics, the list is endless. A few simple HTML/CSS lines of code wrapped with some INTERNAL IMSMS CODES, you have yourself something a bit more elegant! YOu can then share your skin to anyone - just create it and pass it around - the reason for this post is so that you can truly understand how IMSMS is different than ALL OF THE SMS THREADING programs out on the market - this feature is very original and unique to IMSMS!

Here's what it can look like for you (the template is provided in the skinning tutorial on site)

http://dsosoftware07.googlepages.com/SkinDefault.jpg/SkinDefault-full.jpg

Download the template and review - you can make it whatever you want - (Do note: optimizations are coming - try to not get too fancy - because you may run out of memory/slow down your display before you can say, DAMN!" :)

CHeck out the skinning guide:

http://dsosoftware07.googlepages.com/imsms-skinningguide

The template file download (in a .zip) is underneath the image on that tutorial page. Instructions on how to install is written on bottom of page.

Build 1.0.455 Released - new template look!

For both PPC/Smartphone - it's getting near version 1.1 release - I am working on some key goals - mainly optimizations and the Dynamic Group Send is still coming - expect to see it in 1.1 because it is a big feature.

There will be another useful feature added in the next build - more convenience features.

What's new in 1.0.455

* for those who haven't already, install 1.0.450 - it will give you a better UI view of the chat display - the rendering engine is now retrofitted with a new template design. Be sure to LOAD DEFAULT COLORS in the Color Options menu - to see the new template colors - or else you will be seeing your own saved color settings. This is very fitting because it makes everything look way better (font size, etc)

This is a new skin that is BUILT IN. I have also done a few tweaks to the rendering engine - so you should gain a bit of performance (though you may not really notice in terms of speed compared to 1.0.410).

Enjoy, email me if you have questions!

PS - there are some images in the release notes describing the different colored icons - as well as in the MAIN TUTORIAL PAGE, the video feature describing the Dynamic Alerts will also list out the ICON declarations.

Thanks!!!

Yes, be sure you remove all keys that are not the ones listed in the help guide.

Remember, those keys I listed (the two) should already be there - if NOT, create the two KEYS - they look like "yellow folders" sitting under the \Rules path. Be careful of what you delete - make sure you backup your registry before you make changes.

After creating the KEYS, make sure you create two DWORD VALUES - both set to values of 1 respectively. Reboot your Dash, it WILL work (if done correctly).

The image I provided in the help guide is meant to show you a general display of what the "keys" should be listed under and the DWORD VALUES created. You do not need to NAME the DWORD VALUES - like how I have shown, you can leave the name of the VALUE blank - instead of typing out "PostProcess".

Sorry you are having some problems - most of the TMODash users who I have contacted has solved this issue via the registry fix - if this still doesn't fix for YOU, you may want to contact MSFT or HTC directly and inquire about the upgrade registry fix directly. This issue affects Tmobile Dash WM5 -> WM6 upgrades.

HI,

A few notes in Version 1.0.503:

There is a new language selection - do not change this unless you run an IME (input method editor) - it is built to accomodate some users that run IME's on the PPC/smartphones. DO not CHANGE to a language your phone does not support or you end up with ??? all over because your encoding is not supported.

Also, you can now select the Minimal chat log view or the STANDARD chat log view - Minimal view shows the message logs in a very common line format - while STANDARD view (the default) shows the messages in a formatted option - which is more clean and prettier.

Both versions you can set the colors, etc.

So in version 1.0.503,

You have:

1) Standard View
2) Minimal View
3) Custom Skin Template

HI,

Some users will experience a fatal application crash when trying to start up IMSMS - this is due to the new language setting - by default, the language code will load up - however, in the previous versions, I have left out the default value - when IMSMS starts up, it may crash and exit when this code value is not present. This issue has been resolved along with other minor issues. See release notes for Version 1.0.505

Hi,

The TAN skin has replaced the old initial template - it is written in the Skin.htm file. It is located:

\My Documents\IMSMS\SKINS\Skin.htm

ALL TEMPLATES ARE NAMED: skin.htm

If you wish to create another template, simply create a directory and place the skin.htm file in that directory, go into Settings->Preferences->Enable Custom SKin (check it again) and a directory listing will appear - navigate to the directory that contains the skin.htm file. Make sure you TRAVERSE INTO that directory - the directory path should appear up top - then hit ACTION->SELECT.

That's it. TO view the new template, send yourself a message or wait for a new message to arrive - Next revision of IMSMS will include a feature to preview your templates.

very nice program! I finally got to trying it and for the most part it works great! I have a couple questions however.

1) I realize there is a way to skin the program, but is there any way more "standard" colors could be integrated into the default program? I find myself wanting a gray, black, and white option on EVERY available selection!

2) Is there a way to create a plugin for the home screen so it can show a sms count? It sounded like there were issues, but havent read any updates?

3) If not, is there a way to make this show up in the messaging screen, so the regular mailbox button will bring up the program? It would be nice to have a shortcut button for this!

4) I ALWAYS lock my phone so it never will bring up a notification. Is there a way to make it show up even if the phone is locked- like how the missed call screen works?

Thank you for a great program!

I will provide more customization "codes" - the #IMSMS_XXX# codes. As for colors, you can tweak till you drop with HTML/CSS - this is if you choose a CUSTOM template. I will also add more built in "skins" real soon!

2) Is there a way to create a plugin for the home screen so it can show a sms count? It sounded like there were issues, but havent read any updates?

I have thought about a plugin- I am considering creating a separate plugin - I'll release some details after Version 1.1 is released (by end of month). Also, there are already system counters in place inside IMSMS - I have not activated them just yet - they tally up sms messages, etc..provide some reporting to you. This will be activated soon.

3) If not, is there a way to make this show up in the messaging screen, so the regular mailbox button will bring up the program? It would be nice to have a shortcut button for this!

The icons are an native system calls - why it does not show up on the homescreen is a real annoyance - PPC's use a different approach - they show up everywhere - on smartphones, they show up everywhere except when you dial a call or when you the home screen appears. For now, having the icons are a great added convenience feature - I'll investigate this a bit more.

4) I ALWAYS lock my phone so it never will bring up a notification. Is there a way to make it show up even if the phone is locked- like how the missed call screen works?

Thank you for a great program!

As do I as well - I do not believe (although I'm not 100% certain) that you can bypass the lock screen - it sits the topmost above all windows - but nothing is impossible - some of these issues you are annoyed with are "known". I'll try to spend more time inventing creative ways to alert you. Right now, if IMSMS is sitting in the background hidden, every so often, you will hear a ringtone indicating a message arrived but IMSMS is hidden - or a vibration (depending on what you set). This feature was suppose to be released already - but I took it out for some more testing/fine tuning.

Thank you for the support! Your suggestions/feedback is most welcome and don't ever hesitate to ask. I really want to make IMSMS a great app that is FREE.

PPC BUILD 1.0.520; Smartphone 1.0.511

THis build has a new added feature - for those that want vibration but your device would not vibrate (due to OEM code), you can now select the proper code until your device vibrates - (see FAQ/Help Tutorial for details).

Also added is some safety checks for proper unicode culture support - IMSMS is culture specific - if your device does not provide the proper culture information, IMSMS will exit with a message.

YES - this was long overdue - I didn't get a chance to get to it - because I was dealing with IME issues- but I just went ahead and added it in. It's been tested and working fine -

Give it a try. This should help those who modify custom skin templates AND for switching between MINIMAL/STANDARD chat log format views AND any color changes in the COLOR OPTIONS menu.

I will be adding more "built in" templates - and will supply a few more internal codes for custom skinning.

I'm off on a short break -but will linger around - send me emails anytime.

Thanks,
DSO

PS - to get this to work, it's real easy. See help tutorial under SKINNING GUIDE or:

SElect it from the (MENU->CHAT LOGS->REFRESH LOG DISPLAY). It will reload the chat log of the friend you have selected in the friends list box. Be sure to have at least one friend added to your friends list and at least one friend with a chat log (obviously required).

HI,

Please review the FAQ online to answer your question regarding profiles. IN short, IMSMS is independant of your profile settings - the benefits outweigh the convenience of tying into your system profiles - the FAQ explains it all.

IMSMS is designed to be an instant messenger - although I have explained in the previous posts, IMSMS' core engine is capable of queuing the messages and can schedule send too. If you are not in service, the message will not send - you will not see it in your chat log - when you regain service, you can simply select the "resend last typed message" from the ACTION menu.

From a design standpoint, there's no real reason to queue your messages either - although technically messages are sent as fast as you can type each message out. Flood protection has been turned off since the early 1.0 builds.

Hope this helps answer some of your questions. Thanks for your support,

Download and try for free, no obligations software that allows your mobile phone to:

Send emails and do online and offline composition. Attach files, use automatic signatures and store drafts.

Receive mails in "stand-by" mode. Receive and edit attachments. Receive only "the beginning" of a message to save data.

SSL support. Sent/deleted mailbox synchronization.
SMTP authentication.

Light weight, 50% smaller than competing software.

Integrates seamlessly with MS Active Synch.

and many more.....

Most importantly, it is free to try!

Try it at Link: http://www.emansio.com/tryorbuy.jsp

Is there anyway to get the program to Vibrate AND make the sound? And what does the Verify MD5 mean?

Yes, PPC version 1.0.600 has the function now - smartphone is too follow suit shortly.

Verify MD5:

You may want to google "MD5 programs" that will allow you to download and use free MD5 verification - the .cab files and the .zip files I have are authentic from my home site - only download the builds from the home site and double check the MD5 hash value. This will ensure you have the correct file/.cab and not some other hacked file.

To answer your question, think of it as a computational digital signature - you can put anything (files, text, whatever you want) thru a computational algorithm that computes a value for you - this value can only be computed ONE WAY - that is it cannot be "reversed" - therefore, it is used as a digital signature - you simply take the MD5 value (one I posted) and compare it to the file you downloaded; you use an MD5 program, open the file you just downloaded, and get the value the MD5 program created - it should match the value I have written on the web site - the MD5 value should be identical - which means it is authentic.

Hope this helps you out.

Ahhh. I use a Smartphone. When's the update for that?

IMSMS
20th November 2007, 06:17 PM
Attention All IMSMS users:

Please download BUILD 1.0.700

IMSMS NO LONGER USES PocketIE as the display. Versions 1.0.700 uses a custom display component that REDUCES your memory usage significantly compared to previous builds with pocketIE! You no longer have to worry about IMSMS' display component (pocketIE) eating up your valuable memory! It's not a memory leak however - your memory gets released when IMSMS exits but previous versions that included pocketIE will not do so unless you shutdown IMSMS - which was beyond my control.

Use 1.0.700!

What's included (See release notes - quite a bit of new items):

*** MEMORY PERFORMANCE UPDATE *** (Version 1.0.700)

Custom IMSMS Display component - finally removed PocketIE functionality - IMSMS does not rely on PocketIE to display the chat logs. The memory leaks within PocketIE are GONE!

Added Sound & Vibrate option - select from MENU->SETTINGS->PREFERENCES menu option. You will see a check box to VIBRATE + Sounds. When you have "Enable incoming/outgoing/missed messages" sounds playback enabled, vibration will also be played at the same time.

Added shortcut in menu - To switch between text entry box and chat log display (so you can scroll your text messages), simply select ACTION then the number '5' or select from the menu: ACTION->Text Entry/Message Log Mode - it will switch between the text entry box and the message display (so you can scroll) automatically

Fixed Dynamic Alerts icon issue - on occasion, when receiving incoming messages, the incoming message icon will overwrite the dynamic alert nofication envelope (orange/green/red) icons.

(Version 1.0.600) (PPC): Added AUTO AWAY TIME - Select from the ACTION->MANAGE->AWAY->EDIT AWAY MESSAGES menu option. There is a new feature "Auto Set Away (Minutes)" that allows you to set a time (in minutes) of when IMSMS will automatically set itself away - and respond with a default away message you choose. AUTO AWAY STARTS the timer the moment when you STOP texting when enabled.

(Version 1.0.600) (PPC): Added Sound & Vibrate option - select from MENU->SETTINGS->PREFERENCES menu option. You will see a check box to VIBRATE + Sounds. When you have "Enable incoming/outgoing/missed messages" sounds playback enabled, vibration will also be played at the same time.

(Version 1.0.600) (PPC): Rebuilt custom sound selection dialogs - IMSMS now uses standard PPC file selection dialogs when selecting custom sounds

This will be almost the last build to Version 1.1 - enjoy and please report any new problems you may encounter with this newly added component in IMSMS.

Thanks!

A few things;

First, I HATE that windows live messenger insists on importing your msn contacts. How can I eliminate them from my contacts, is there any way? I just don't want them....

Next, I am using OctraTalk, a great application for using Google Talk on your mobile. But since changing my home screen, all of the text in OctraTalk has gone to white, making it impossible to read against the white background. The backgrounds I am using are those provided by gospeed.racergo. I can't seem to find any 000000 colors used in the XML, that changing does anything to. Anyone??

Thanks in Advance..

Your default inbox should not be intercepting - if it is, ensure that you don't have other keys registered - you most likely have left over orphaned keys lingering in your registry - IMSMS will not pass a copy if you do not enable that option - also, check to be sure you really don't have SMS Notify enabled:

\Program Files\IMSMS\EngError.txt

That's your installed path - within the text file will be entries that tell you if you have AUTO START registered/SMS NOTIFY registered - they should say Unregistered if the options are deactivated.

If you haven't already, take a look at the home site's online FAQ/Help Tutorial/Videos

There are 3 options in IMSMS for message viewing:

1) Dynamic Alerts - each sender that sends you a message which you aren't directly viewing will show up in your MENU->Alerts - select the sender and it will jump directly to the conversation (also indicated by colored envelopes)

2) Enable Msgs Instant Update - this will display all messages temporarily overwriting your current chat log - each sender that sends you will overwrite the display for an "instant update".

3) One View - all messages come in one display - but all messages sent/received are also tracked invidually so when One View is disabled, you will retain all conversations

Take a look at the help guides - There's alot of features in IMSMS - I have not fully documented everything - but will do so when Version 1.1 arrives.

Not to sound like a nag, but there are release notes for each release revision - and the FAQ gives you all the information - if not, you can check out the Help Tutorials as well -

In the release notes for version 1.0.700+, to switch between chat logs (scrolling your messages) and the text entry is done with an ACTION->5
or ACTION->Text Entry/Message Log mode.

Very easy.

As for users that have issues with receiving messages into your default outlook inbox (system inbox), you should recheck your registry entries - most likely you may have some orphaned registry hooks that enable your inbox to capture the messages.

Hello, New here, I've got a Samsung SCH-i760 running Windows mobile 6. I've installed the latest PPC PRO Version 1.0.721. After setting up a Friends list, when I receive a Message from a person not on my Friends list (example from an email address), The application crashes and doesn't pass through the SMS message to the other built in Messaging app. If I clear the contacts list and send a message from my email to my phone, then IMSMS doesn't crash but opens and dosn't show me the message and doesn't pass thorugh the message to the normal SMS reader. I can review the logs and it shows me the message but there is no way to reply. I've also notice that there is no way to uninstall the app from the system uninstaller.

Build 1.0.730 PPC/SMartphone RELEASED

There's much revisions internally - if you encounter any issues, let me know.

Here's what's new:

Revision #3 Dynamic Alerts: Revised internal dynamic alerts code - some users experienced dynamic alerts triggers (the orange/green/red envelope notification icons) when simply switching between friends via the friends list box. This is now fixed.

Added custom incoming ringtone: IMSMS now supports custom ringtones (selectable from the contacts menu) - when assigned, IMSMS will auto play the assigned ringtone for the friend who sends you a message. IMSMS will auto stop ALL music playing within 5 seconds

Revised internal database engine: internal revisions - transparent to users

Revised Call Friend (function) - IMSMS will now bring up a contacts page for each friend you wish to call via the ACTION->MANAGE->CALL FRIEND menu option. You can then select a task to perform (call, message, etc.) just like the system contact dialog.

Revised Audio playback - on windows mobile 5 devices, certain custom sound options even if selected will NOT playback - IMSMS will result to playing the default synchronous audio sample instead.

Yes, those who have asked for custom ringtones, here it is for you. Version 1.0.730 will auto cut the music playback within 5 seconds. Future versions will allow custom time on playback.

Custom ringtones for each friend is set in your system profiles - if you have a contact added for that friend in your system phone book, in the contacts manager, you should be able to select a ringtone for that person. IMSMS uses the same ringtone you set for the system contact.

Those who have issues when scrolling your friends list (with dynamic alerts/icons ) showing up for no reason, this revision completely restructures the way dynamic alerts are handled. Give this one a go.

Windows Mobile 5 users may not be able to play custom sounds. If this is the case, IMSMS will default to synchronous playback of the default internal sounds. WIndows mobile 5 users still have vibration option though - windows mobile 6 users have it all.

DSO

when you talk about the revision of the alerts triggers, does it now show an icon when the phone is locked? I know that was really my only complaint before as I would often not hear my alert and when looking at the phone locked the icon would not be there.

thank you for this wonderful program!

Hi,

It all depends - I do not know of any software (personally) that can display an icon if you have for example, FACADE running on your home screen along with other front end GUI's. I am experimenting with some other notifications that will signal your text message plugin's (updating the sms message counter).

Hang in there - there's alot of features in IMSMS - I'll try to accomodate everyone's feature requests. At least you have custom ringtones now - those who were asking for it.

Thanks,
DSO

If it could toggle the standard sms counter and maybe show the default mail icon, that would be perfect. It would make it feel oem.

Another thing that would be really trick, is (since this IS pretty much a replacement for the sms folder) to make the sms folder link to your program. Again, dont know how or if, but just something I would prefer. :p

Cant wait to see what each new revision will bring! :)

IMSMS updated! Download PPC and Smartphone editions! - IMSMS now supports MULTI-LANGUAGES!

Hi,

I spent some time writing this app and would love your feedback/testing. The UI is still being tweaked but the core engine is working fine. Of course, there's more customisations to do but I feel the overall app works. There's quite a bit of undocumented features but I am in the process of improving/documentation. If you can give me some feedback on this, that would be great. This project was meant from day 1 to be FREE and accessible to everyone. I just hope you enjoy using it as much as I enjoy building it!

I've written specifically for HTC S620 (aka TMobile Dash). Uses WM6/.NET CF 2.0 (which is built into ROM) so you should be able to run it. Everything else is in the .cab file package. It can be oriented to portrait but prefered to be run in landscape mode. Supports emoticons and more along with message backup.

Attention ALL TMOBILE DASH USERS (how to fix your "not receiving incoming problems":

IMSMS may not work on your phone due to the fact if you have upgraded from WM5 to WM6 yourself, there is broken interface in Windows Mobile 5 that prevents standard sms message interceptions. In order to fix this, go ahead and try the following:

Navigate to your phone's system registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Software\Inb ox\Svc\Sms\Rules

Within the above entry will be two:

{1000BC1C-F4A3-4210-B197-4AEBF2CEE6F5}

{77990A0E-60B8-4103-B9AF-17157E4274FD}

Previous versions included some optimizations that REMOVED critical pieces of functional code (see release notes) I am very unpleased with this because this was not expected

However, please give the new version a go - I have run it thru the emulator a few times to ensure working order.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Smartphones do not contain cabs for the installed apps, it's all just included in the firmware pre-installed. You'd have to go through the registry and find all of the keys related to it, then find all of the files related to it, and either make a cab yourself or copy the registry customizations and files to the phone

Happy New Year XDA members - I hope this new year will bring much joy and good health to everyone!

First things first - I was on long vacation - but my gmail did not set the auto vacation - so I guess everyone just thought I died or something.

The last builds on the IMSMS home site was the last stable revision. I am contemplating on continuing with this project since Microsoft is releasing Windows Mobile 6.1 due this february (or within the month). There are supposedly new "fixed" features - and of course, development api improved. The update will include a new SMS threading application - from the pictures seen, I will tell you it sucks. It's very generic and does not offer anything aside from just getting your messages threaded.

I am putting IMSMS on hold until WM6.1 is released - I don't know the # of users for IMSMS - but I do know there are many.

For new users, sprint mogul users, and others - please review the website's FAQ and HELP guide section - all the answers are there - I've received numerous emails asking the same questions: "how to fix mogul keyboard issue", etc. It's all in the FAQ/Help guides.

As for technical revisions, I will try to push out 1.1 with group send features soon. I am just getting back into the groove so it may be a bit longer.

I want to thank you all for the support - hope your holiday was grand and keep using your Windows Mobile devices - and also please email Microsoft WIndows Mobile team (look on the windows mobile website) and complain about how crappy the UI is. That's all I have to say - I'll be back later...

Quicksand/WB - I got your emails - thanks for your emails - hope your vacation was grand as well :)

I love how IMSMS looks and works, but I'm having an issue that's annoying the crap out of me! I can send and receive text messages, but the only way I can see them in the chat log windo is if I go into the settings and select "refresh chat log". Then everything shows up. If I go to another contact, I have to do the same. If I go back to the first contact, I have to refresh it again or the screen will remain blank. Quite often I'll get a text from someone and I'll have to play a long game of going to and refreshing each contact individually to see who sent it and what it said!!

I've tried everything I can see and find in the settings but nothing works. I have the latest version, since I downloaded it today. My phone is an HTC Touch wunning WM6, not even a week old.

I've uninstalled and re-installed it countless times.

Anyone have any suggestions? As of right now it's uninstalled and unless I can get it working right I'm gonna have to leave it like that unfortunately. I really hope I can get it working because it looks like such a great product and everyone seems to say great things about it. Besides, the standard sms on the Touch leaves a lot to be desired!!

Question: Does anyone know a registry edit or what line in the .xml file edits the shortcut for messaging? I'm not talking about the key on the phone, but the shortcut on the Homescreen. When you click on the shortcut for messaging it brings you to the screen w/ Text/Multimedia, Windows Live, and New E-Mail Account... When I click on it I want it to open up IMSMS. Anyone know how?

But if anyone knows how to remap the button in the lower right, that would be helpful as well.

You can open the xml file in notepad and scroll down to the sms section and replace the clsid with one from IMSMS (if it has one). The CLSIDs are found in HKEY_Classes_Root\CLSID it's a 32 character hexadecimal string. Some programs have CLSIDs associated with them. Get with DSO to find out if there's one for IMSMS.

Okay, I'm totally at a loss here. I'm one of the TMobile Dash upgraders from WM5 to WM6 and IMSMS doesn't work for me and there is obviously a total disconnect as to what needs to get done. Not to complain, but the dev's faq page here (http://dsosoftware07.googlepages.com/imsms-incomingmessagesnotcapturedbyimsms) has conflicting information in it. I don't think he understands the difference between a key and a value.

Can someone repost the exact fix that worked for them? I tried whats on the FAQ page and I tried what was listed in the first post here. Neither worked.

Edit: For those having this issue, don't pay attention to anything written on the other site or in the OPs post. Delete everything under the selected key. Or that's the only thing that worked for me anyway...

Its gonna be a process but in my belief it SHOULD work...

1. Make sure you have the tmobile rom installed
2. Get a registry editor and look at all of the oz messenger registry settings. Write down all the info needed like the folder names and key settings.
3. Copy all of oz messenger files from application data, program files or where ever you see the folders involving oz messenger. All i know is you dont really need the oz messenger files in the windows folder. I dont remember where the exact location of the oz messnger folders are but you should find them amongst all the other folders besides the windows folder.
4. copy the folders to your pc
5. Now use another rom of choice like htc, rogers, or whatever else your using
6. Copy the folders of oz messenger in the exact locations on your new rom just like they were placed in the tmobile one.
7. Make a oz messenger shortcut where you like or just run it once. It should run.
8. Try to connect it with a username, you should get an communication error.
9. Go to the registry editor and there now should be a registry for oz communications after you run it first.
10.Registry edit and create the missing info that you should of have copied down somewhere on paper from step 2
11. Everything SHOULD work from there. X-D

I didnt fully test this though.

I thought about this because ive checked the registry myself before on the tmobile rom and saw the info, i then copied oz messenger files to my new rom. When i tried to run oz it gave me communication error so. I then went to registry on the new rom and i saw some info that was missing comparing to the tmobile rom's. From there i gave up cause i didnt care, lolz. I just used Palringo instead because its faster X-D.

I would have done it for you guys and put it in a zip folder with a tutorial but i have my phone setup with alot of important data and really dont want to restart my phone from scratch again.

Tell me if it works! If it did then thumbs up soldier! lolz

http://www.breaksoft.com/Blog/Utilities/2005/1/Mobile_Registry_Editor.aspx

I would greatly appreciate it if someone with the T-Mobile ROM and working OZ Instant Messenger and could use that ^ registry editor and export [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\OZ Communications]

I'll make us all a .reg file and get this thing working again, for all of us using the T-Zones proxy.

Hey, i believe if you download the oz messenger for at&t/cingular, install it on any rom, then get a registry program to rechange the network registry to tmobile's: http:\wirelessvillage.t-mobile.com:80 i believe it is. it should connect you to aim/yahoo/windows live if you have the 5.99 tmobileweb.

Do you have any idea about fido network value?

Anyone else have a problem with disabling contact ringtones? Every time I uncheck the box, the program will tell me to save/restart, and when I do, the box is checked again.

The only way to keep it disabled is to not restart the program, and manually uncheck it each time I launch the program. Meanwhile, other settings don't seem to revert like this. I have a feeling I'm missing something.

I'm running on a upgraded WM6 Dash.

Sorry guys, it's really not working on my dash, have a lot of you been regediting? I'd do it, but the edits are pretty severe to the dash it looks like...

Does anyone know how to get Windows Messenger Live to run on a "work" connection on a HTC s620 running WM6? Both IE and Inbox can be configured for "internet", "work", etc... but Messenger appears to be fixed on internet (it has no settings that I can find) and wont connect. Is there maybe a registry trick for this? Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks for the help :o

I just upgraded to the new HTC Rom, and OZ Messenger is not included.

I NEED an IM program that uses SMS instead of Data.

Is there a way to get my old T-Mobile OZ Messenger back (extract it from the old T-Mobile ROM or something?) ?
Or, is there a way to get the PocketPC version of OZ Messenger to work on my Smartphone?
Or, is there another IM program that will work on my Dash that uses SMS?
Or, am I just screwed?

Please help..
thanks!!
