There is a new one that does them all (AIM, MSN, GTalk, Yahoo, ICQ, and Jabber) that is currently free and Java based. I quit using IM+ (which I paid for) and am using it exclusively. Currently the beta testing is closed while I think they upgrade their servers, but should open up again shortly I think).
It is supposed to be for the crackberries, but works great on my Dash and K-Jam:

Octro: www.octro.com
Free during beta. Big thing about it is it does Google Talk (VOIP) over 3g or even just 1x speeds.
Also does IM with GTalk, AIM, Y!, MSN and ICQ. It has a nice today plugin, customized away messages and auto-login/logout.

I find Octro little bit strange as I don't see all of my contacts there and also Octro does not download the "nicknames" from ICQ server so I see only their IDs :-)

Agile Messenger is all you'll need. There are some annoying bugs here and there, but for the features it has, I believe it is the best option out there.

Wow, I have been using Octro for Gtalk but I had no idea that they also supported Y! and MSN! Is this a a new feature? I just updated mine like 3 weeks ago. That's wonderful (makes my paid version of IM+ looks positively lame).
Edit: Ahh, I am running v1.0 and v1.01 onwards added support for multiple chat clients. How fantastic!

it used to be until they unleashed that crazy pricing scheme. Plus, I get errors on staturp from it. It's never been the most stable either.

1.03 just came out about 3 days ago. It now adds vibration to the smartphone edition (which was lacking). It enables automatically in the "meeting" profile, etc.
such a great app. I'm hoping they add some SMS relay to the system too to save battery life (like Verichat had)...

i just got my dash a couple days back and im becoming pretty adept at using it, but i am having trouble with the instant messenger...
how can i change the settings so that when im logged on and recieve a message it will vibrate every time i get a message? because as of right now i am recieving nothing even though i put the setting on for it to vibrate.
DotStig

Where did you set it to vibrate, you may be mistaken. Aim will not vibrate to notify you if you are using the default messenger. The only notification that you will get is the sound, otherwise you gets nada. The phone notification settings have nothing to do with AIM.

I like Octro for this exact reason: homescreen plugin
It's the only one with one. It'll show you're online status (online, busy, away) as well as if you have a new message, which is really nice if you put your phone down and miss the sound/vibrate.

Hey folks.
I have the T-Mobile Dash, WM6 Beta.
I can't connect using MSN LIVE Messenger or the other pre-installed IM Apps, like AIM, YAHOO (powered by OZ).
I tried JiveTalk, it says call=invalid key.
I have the T-mobile 5.99 plan w/ proxy *supplied via Wiki.
My IE works, and Google Maps. I have 3-4 bars plus the E (Edge).
Any help? I'd like to get them running before I leave tomorrow.

Lafester is correct -- Windows Live Mobile products will not work with proxy settings, period. It's not a T-Mobile thing, it's a Microsoft thing. I was in the beta group for WLM and it came up quite a bit during testing, you need a full-fledged data plan to use WLM (or your home or public WiFi).

What about the $19.99 Blackberry plan? Even that seems expensive considering you stare at a 2" screen. I think $5.99 is a great deal but do believe if they would raise that to $9.99 for Smartphones & Pocket PC Phones and let us all get access to EVERYTHING without funky settings and then just leave the $5.99 (or better yet-drop it to $4.99) for your non-Windows devices that just have a WAP browser... -ya know?

The Blackberry plan is the way to go -- it's Total Internet without HotSpots, which I have no use for. It's non-proxy, uses the same settings as if you were paying for the Total Internet package. It's been working fine for me, without my needing to change any settings. Messenger, Live, IMAP, Exchange, POP3, IE, FizzWeather, it's all good... :)

T-mo may try to tell you the Blackberry plan will not work with the Dash. If they insist on not selling your this service, visit a T-mo reseller or other mobile retail outlet that support T-mobile and have them add this service to your rate plan.

I just cant justify $20 a month for email. I hope someone comes up with a way to either: Get silent triggers to work like they did in WM5 or get the Window$ Live! app on the home screen working with T-Mobileweb (Tzones) plan.
I did call TMo and they gave me a link to download the old "My Email" setup that the Dash SDA MDA had and although they dont support it, it does install OTA as a .cab file but I still get regular SMS not the silent triggers no matter which way I setup my emial (tmo first, device first). Here's a link to the file, maybe someone can figure it out or get Window$ Live to work?

what access point (APN) you set with the Blackberry plan?
Is it the internet2.voicestream.com or the wap.voicestream.com
One time, I swicthed to that plan, but I could not use it without the proxy, like the way you explain it (ie: full connection to the internet).
I ended up switch back again to the t-zones/t-mobileweb plan.

I used these settings for T-Mobileweb (aka: tzones) $5.99 plan. I left these settings inplace when I checked out the Blackberry $19.99 plan and the only thing extra I got was that Windows Live worked; that said I cant justy $14.00 increase in price JUST to have email on my home screen. HOWEVER, I do like that it is instant email and you're able to see a little of the full message. Anyway...here are my settings to use both POP and PIE at the same time PLUS WIFI works without modifying ANY settings!
In Settings/Connections/GPRS/T-Mobile Data:
T-Mobile Data
Connects to: WAP Network
Access Point: wap.voicestream.com
AND add another GPRS option:
T-Mobile Data2
Connects to: Work
Access Point: wap.voicestream.com
Then create TWO Proxies:
Settings/Connections/Proxy
First Proxy:
Name:Tzones Proxy
Connects from: WAP Network
Connects to: The Internet
Proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080
Type: HTTP
Second Proxy:
Name Tzones Proxy2
Connects from: Work
Connects to: The Internet
Proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080
Type: HTTP
In connections, click menu, then advance and set ALL connections to AUTOMATIC
To get the Exchange server working:
(Exchange server settings)
Options/Advanced
Connection: Internet (This is the only option on my Dash)
To get Pop mail accounts working:
(This will need to be done for each account you have)
NOTE! You need to create a POP mail account BEFORE you can edit the connection. (for whatever reason there's no box for it upon initial setup)
Options/Account settings/Advanced Server Settings
Network Connection: Work
To get IE working:
(In IE)Menu/Tools/Options/Connections
Check "Automatically Detect Settings"
Select Network: WAP Network

It's called 'blackberry unlimited add-on' @ $19.99. Not sure what 'blackberry connect' is. Read about it in the Dash FAQ at Howards Forum. Said you log in to my tmobile, change your phone type to a blackberry, the service becomes one of the options you can add. It worked, and has been working for a few months now, without the on-again-off-again proxy setting thing.

I have written an AIM-compatible chat client for the Excalibur (all landscape Windows Mobile Standard devices). I'd like to do some testing and get some feedback.
I have attached the release CAB which can be installed directly on the phone. I've designed the interface to be as easy to use on the Excalibur as possible. To switch between the accounts page, the buddy list, and the chats, hit the left and right keys.
Release notes:
1. Passwords are stored in plaintext.
2. Tested on Windows Mobile 6 Standard.
3. Requires the .Net Compact Framework (standard on WM6 devices).
Update 1 (0.1.412):
1. Fixed problem with log files appearing in the root of the device's flash.
2. Fixed Sign On button to prevent multiple sign ons.
Update 2 (0.2.2111):
1. Fixed envelope icons not accurately reporting whether or not you had a conversation.
2. Fixed bugs in starting conversations due to large buddy lists.
3. Enabled Show Offline Buddies.
Update 3 (0.3.52)
1. Fixed signon/logon issues.
2. Fixed issue in buddylist: now selecting a menu item will no longer start a chat with the selected buddy.
3. Changed chat close behavior so that the client returns to the previous chat rather than the accounts page.
4. Enabled custom away messages.
5. Enabled user info for buddies (unconfirmed).
6. Added an icon for buddies using mobile phones (it no longer appears as blue text; now there's a little phone on the side).
(0.3.52) 7. Fixed networking issues.
Update 4 (0.4.1558)
1. Fixed sign-in issues: if there are network problems, you will now.
2. Fixed buddy info. Logged-in-since times may be reported incorrectly.
3. Fixed various, unlikely crashes.
(0.4.1558) 4. Fixed phantom message behavior.
(0.4.1558) 5. Fixed issue with message reception.
Thanks for trying out the program.

No, ICQ will not work. But it will be trivial to add it once I have finalized the rest of the interface design (I'm changing focus).
I have attached shots in action. You have to run it to really get a feel for changing between windows (much faster than OctroTalk and IM+).

is it possible to only show online contacts? i see there is an option for that, but it is grayed out.

Yes the option is greyed out. I also got an error after trying to open a new conversation. How come i have the envelopes showing up next to contacts after i opened a conversation then closed it, I wasn't able to get rid of those... Seems ok, and yes i know it's still in the early stages.

I'll fix those errors within the hour. I will implement the online/offline buddies feature right now. I will fix the envelopes too (it disappears in the emulator properly but not on the Excalibur, hm..).

does this log in to the AIM servers directly or does it use some proxy server of some kind? That's how all the multi-IM's work.
Also, any plan to include Yahoo, MSN, ICQ, GTalk? I'd imagine some of the Miranda or GAIM information may be helpful but what do I know...
Thanks!

No, it does not use a proxy server. It connects to the AIM servers directly. It defaults to port 25 because the $3, $5, $6, and $10 unlimited t-zones plans for T-Mobile do not block port 25 traffic. Thus, you get unlimited instant messaging; it's way faster and cheaper than using text message-based clients like the one that ships with T-Mobile phones or using superclients.
Also, I will add custom away messages. Most of the features are trivial to add; they will be available in the coming days. I just want to get the kinks sorted out on different networks.
If you have trouble connecting (logon errors, such as a "Cannot resolve host" or "Cannot find host" error), that's when you should start playing around with the ports to investigate how restricted your data plan is. This program, unlike Agile Messenger, allows port changing so that it's easier to get around port blocking and network firewalls.
Thanks again for the testing

well for yours i think a homescreen plugin would be great for new messages, maybe u cud incorporate the buddy lists, and the ability to see away messages, as well as make ur own is always perfect.
in addition sound notifications, etc. but for the most part, if u have these basics here I think ur aim app can be one of the best.

Ok. The Program is only showing buddies from the "Buddies" Group. Can it show buddies from other groups? And the contacts I'm having problems with are users on hiptop mobile devices.

Wow, you don't wanna google and really didn't read the post at all, huh? The poster specifically said he has a Dash and selected the SDA/Tornado and it worked for him. And it also worked for me. So far works pretty well, the interaction (multiple convos) is similar to Agile. Sucks that it's Java so entering text is that ridiculous multi-click process and for some reason they made "Template" the default rather than "OK" to send your message. Can't beat free, though.

I haven't been able to program any more for this but now I will have time. Development will continue and the roadmap is as follows:
Features for Update 5:
1. Support for Windows Mobile 6 Professional (i.e., T-Mobile Wing) devices.
Bugfixes for Update 5:
1. Incoming message crashes.
2. Incomplete buddy lists.
3. Scrolling up and down in your chats.
4. Connection stability and continuity.
Features for Update 6:
1. Adding/removing buddies.
2. Groups.
3. Vibration/audio alerts for incoming messages.
Features for Update 7:
1. Homescreen plugin.
I now own a Wing to test the Windows Mobile 6 Professional platform. After merging both platforms, I will move the application testing to the Development and Hacking forum. I will still release to the first post of this thread.
Thanks again,

Great! Will put it in the IM Bible when I have some time.
Please if any of you has a release I should know about (to, for example, include in my roundups - I've also published a Smartphone IM Bible and am ready to publish any new, related stuff! - or the Best Software Awards 2007), drop me a PM or, at least, post an annoucement to the General forum here so that I surely notice it. wont connect to windows live messenger or gmail..The strange part is it will connect to yahoo mail or any other email and it connects to ie or opera perfect. Now when i say gmail and yahoo i mean the email app that comes pre installed. Also another strange part they will connect when i use wi-fi. ANY ANSWERS??? Another weird thing is it worked when i first first had the tmobile wm6 and then i did a hard reset and it stopped working then. And ever since then it never worked even when i switched over to the htc wm6 rom

Please provide more details about your apps and device (gmail -Java?) and what are you going to do.
Maybe it's ActiveSync problem, try to set in ActiveSync connection settings on desktop PC "This computer is connected to:" -Ineternet instead of automatic.
And for Edge/grps connection set also internet in settings on your device

IMSMS updated! Download PPC and Smartphone editions! - IMSMS now supports MULTI-LANGUAGES!
Hi,
I spent some time writing this app and would love your feedback/testing. The UI is still being tweaked but the core engine is working fine. Of course, there's more customisations to do but I feel the overall app works. There's quite a bit of undocumented features but I am in the process of improving/documentation. If you can give me some feedback on this, that would be great. This project was meant from day 1 to be FREE and accessible to everyone. I just hope you enjoy using it as much as I enjoy building it!
I've written specifically for HTC S620 (aka TMobile Dash). Uses WM6/.NET CF 2.0 (which is built into ROM) so you should be able to run it. Everything else is in the .cab file package. It can be oriented to portrait but prefered to be run in landscape mode. Supports emoticons and more along with message backup.

Attention ALL TMOBILE DASH USERS (how to fix your "not receiving incoming problems":
IMSMS may not work on your phone due to the fact if you have upgraded from WM5 to WM6 yourself, there is broken interface in Windows Mobile 5 that prevents standard sms message interceptions. In order to fix this, go ahead and try the following:
Navigate to your phone's system registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Software\Inb ox\Svc\Sms\Rules
Within the above entry will be two:
{1000BC1C-F4A3-4210-B197-4AEBF2CEE6F5}
{77990A0E-60B8-4103-B9AF-17157E4274FD}
Or anything else that may be listed in that registry entry -
make sure you back up your registry before you proceed:
DELETE THEM ALL ***EXCEPT THE TWO ABOVE***. All of the entries listed under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Software\Inb ox\Svc\Sms\Rules
REBOOT your Tmobile Dash - then everything should work with IMSMS and other applications.

All messages are saved in your DEVICE\My Documents\IMSMS_Logs\ folder (or \My Documents\IMSMS_Logs\ ) full path. They are saved internally as XML files – with the core engine rendering them into an HTML file for viewing. In the next release, there will be an archiving function that will generate the backup files for you on the fly and allow XSLT translations into readeable offline message logs. You can now just drag & drop any of the log files you see in your \My Documents\IMSMS_Logs\ folder for viewing on your desktop.

It depends on what you were actually doing - at what process did you get the message? Most of the messages are handled - and the app won't crash on you.

I got that message when pushing in the center "D" pad button, it came up after the message was sent.
It's how the engine generates the chat logs. If there is an error message, it just means that your message was sent - but the chat log probably didn't update the message you sent. You can do this for now:
CLEAR ALL CHAT LOGS (this will erase all your logs) - you can just back these up yourself - open up your windows explorer and browse your DEVICE's \My Documents\IMSMS_Logs\ folder - copy all the files INCLUDING the Anon\ directory (everything you see) onto your desktop/or any folder. This will save your logs.
I have an external program that will parse the XML data logs and render HTML files so you can view them on your desktop. You can also view each .htm file anyway - the external program will do a better job of creating a viewable log file.

I'm off for the day - I'll be back later!
Latest build: 0.9.2833 (fixes)
regarding "Technology"'s question about the error - I debugged the core engine a bit more and now it's much refined. It should not give you any problems - at least I hope it won't ;)
some questions regarding:
Emoticons are in the software - just type them out:
Go to the MENU->Emoticons-> you will see a small listing (I just put in most common emoticons at the moment) - when you click on the menuitem, it won't add it for you - it does however display the text needed to type in for the emoticon you selected. Just type it in.
NExt build will be better - I just need the core engine running smoothly - before I add more UI tweaks, visual enhancements. Actually the option to set color for text, date/time format, sizes, is already in this new .2833 build. I just need a bit more time to make sure it's not bugged.
Thanks again for all your feedbacks. Enjoy it and don't rack up too much $ for sending IM lol (lucky for me, I have a Tmobile messaging package )

is there anyway to make it that i dont have to add a +1 to the beginning of every number?
Hi -
SMS service number sent from any network is in this form:
(+1) country code,
(425) area code,
(1112222) 7 digit calling number.
Depending on your country, you adjust accordingly. You must have this format or else the lookup fails. IMSMS will still intercept all sms regardless of whether you have it in the above format- it will drop the message in an anonymous chat log be default if it's not in the correct format or is an unknown number (not in your system contacts book) - if you want all INSTANT MESSAGING like features, you must use: +14251112222 format.
THis is true for most if not all WinMobile devices. If you leave out the +1 in your system contacts book, using the built in Windows Mobile SMS inbox, it will still fail to display the sender's name filed in your contact book because you are missing that +1. If you have 1 (425) 111-2222 (spaces, dashes, parentheses, all will fail lookup by windows mobile default SMS inbox as well).
Please download build .2991 at post #1 (there are important fixes!). New tutorial guide available as well.
Thanks!!

it is a .CAB but it's compressed to a .zip file.
Just extract the .zip file and you will see the .cab file.
Build .2991 fixes the long time bug - where PocketPC pro users (htc touch, etc., wvga users) could not send the message with their "enter" or "middle" button.
this build fixes that now.

If you have 1 (425) 111-2222 (spaces, dashes, parentheses, all will fail lookup by windows mobile default SMS inbox as well).
This isn't true. The default SMS client handles spaces, dashes, and parenthesis just fine. In fact, if you type a number into your desktop Outlook client as +14251112222, Outlook will automatically add all that in, storing it as +1 (425) 111-2222 in your address book and sync it that way to your phone. I've never had any issues with that format using the default SMS app.
I also get the "index out of range error" when I send messages, using the .2991 build on S621 with WWE WM6.

Hi,
These issues will be resolved in the next release build - you are correct when you say the system will look up your phone number - but the number must still be MOBILE NUMBER at least. Thank you for bringing this up because it is one item that is on top of priority list to improve upon.
The failure you receive is due to the number not matching the format I specified in your phone book - +14251112222. As long as you have it in that format for this build, everything will be fine - IMSMS will still capture the incoming SMS to the chat log (anonymous) ifyou dont have it in the above format. I will make sure all these nonsense will go away - i promise! :)

This is the app I have been waiting on to replace the Palm Messaging on my Dash. From what I can tell, the software displays each SMS conversation using Pocket IE? I love the ability to scroll between friends to view the different conversations, that really beats having to crash the Palm program and reopen it. I did notice that if you don't have a contact checked in your friends list and they send you a message, the app will pick it up as long as it is running. The message appears when you add that contact in your friends list. Now for my 2 cents: The orange and black backgrounds on the friends scrollbar and message area could be different or customizable. I can live with the number format (+1xxxxxxxxxx) since I don't have many contacts in my phone although it would be nice if the program could use other formats. This is a great application! Many thanks for this!
Forgot to mention I am running the HTC WWE WM6 ROM (1.27.405.1)

Thank you for your feedback - don't worry, there will be customizable features coming up - the core engine can be wrapped around any UI. I am not a graphic artist - I am a "practical" type of guy - to me, the meat is what counts, not the skin.
BUT - of course, I am still tweaking the engine a bit to refine it more. I have a ton of work to finish up - but it will be soon before I can release a final 1.0 which will be very good - at least to my standards. Right now, i have it running 24/7 and so far so good. I will address the "contacts" book issues. I have to tweak the way SMS service number's arrive on cell phones - currently, they arrive as: +14251112222 format. I am working on a few optimised ways to allow different numbers and formats.
It will sweet when I get to it. However, all your SMS messages are safe with IMSMS. Just archive them andyou will have a copy of them to view at any time (if it's important to you). The Dynamic alerts is also unique as well. One View is also very useful for some. I am getting feedback from many and combining the best of the best in this app.
Thanks for using it - believe me, it will be even better than it is NOW when I handle some more optimizations.

Build 3162 released! **mandatory install**
For those who haven't installed this yet, go ahead and download BUILD 3160 from the download site (post #1).
The build IMPROVEMENTS ARE HUGE.
I have gone thru hours and hours to fix many bugs and performance related issues. Biggest internal engine problem in past builds were the chat log threading issues. I am very happy to report they are all resolved!
Here are the highlights:
* Number format CAN INCLUDE SPACES, () PARENTHESES, DASHES/HYPHENS. **BUT** IN THIS BUILD, YOU STILL MUST HAVE COUNTRY CODE AND AREA CODE. Please see the online manual for instructions! I have updated the online tutorial as well!
* CUSTOM FEATURES include color customisations! Now you can make IMSMS look and feel the way you want - at least the look part ;-)
* fully resolved the threading deadlock issues!!
* optimised send/receive!
Here is the changelog:
Newest build (0.9.3100):
Since 0.9.3100:
===============
* Fixed internal engine causing DYNAMIC ALERTS TO fail when numbers in phone book contain (), spaces, hyphens, etc.
* Added new features:
* Added "Auto display" - when messages arrive and you are at your home screen, it will bring up IMSMS to the top level
* Added "Sound Notification Alert" - when set, even if you are not around to view your phone, IMSMS will play a sound every 60 secs alerting you of new messages
* Added "SMS Notify Other Applications" - when set (after setting this and restarting IMSMS- will allow system inbox to receive a copy of the message as well as IMSMS tracking the message.
Since 0.9.2995:
===============
* CUSTOM FEATURES ADDED!
* Fixed internal engine threading deadlock issues
* Fixed internal engine UI-threading issues
* Optimised engine sending and receiving messages (now much more robust!)
* Optimised Phone book add to friends list (fixed auto load from saved settings where old contacts not in system book were added)
* Mobile Telephone number still required - however format can be: +1 (425) 111-0001 or which ever way you want as long as it includes country code and area code
* Added CUSTOM COLORS!!
* Reorganized menu items such as Viewing/Archiving/Deletion of chat logs
* Revised internal engine message error handling (report CODE: numbers if encountered)
If you have any comments, questions, feature additions (yes, I hear you about having multiple numbers rather than mobile telephone number only) ;-) let me know! Email me anytime!

Should this work fine in the UK? Would all my contacts need +44 at the front?
Hi,
It should work for the UK - as long as your SMS service centre accepts SMS messages ;)
Go ahead and check out the new download build and TUTORIAL - it has alot of new stuff!
:)
cheers,

Definitely try out build .3162!!
My favorite is the Sound Notifcation Alert - It will play every 60 seconds to notify you of an unread message. No more having to guess ;-)
It has 3 new features!
* big fix on Dynamic Alerts.
* Audio Alert Paging (if you missed a message, it will page you every 60seconds!)
* Auto Display - brings IMSMS back to the top level whenever you get an incoming message!
* SMS Notify - to allow other apps to work with IMSMS! ;)
Thank you!

Please consult the online manual:
http://home.comcast.net/~ddtsoft/IMSMS/Instant_Messaging_SMS.htm
it has full screen shots for instructions - simply put, IMSMS will store your messages in either one of two logs: THe respective friends log or the "anonymous" chat log.
Numbers must adhere to the format: +14251112222 but you can include spaces, hyphens, () parentheses. BUT you must have COUNTRY CODE, yes, a (+) PLUS symbol followed by your country code, the AREA CODE, then the rest of the dialing digits like so: +1 (425) 111-2222
You then select the contacts from your system phonebook and add them to IMSMS' friends list.
Latest build that you should install is: BUILD .3612 <----that's a TWO!
Get it from the download link above (online manual/tutorial guide).
Thanks!

What device do you have? Which OS rom version and what build version are you running?
Perhaps if you give me a little more info, I can assist you.
Thanks!
PS, do you see the numbers listed when you try to ADD/REMOVE friends?

Are you running WM6 upgraded? or WM5? Which build #? Build .3160 has issues with adding contacts - and receiving contacts! You should have .3162 - check your build # first please
It will work for both - I just want to know exactly - you can do this for now:
Go to Action menu -> Clear Friends List. This will remove all friends you have set-up. After clearing out your friends, go ahead and select ACTION->Add/REmove Friends. Select YOUR OWN NAME. If you don't have an entry for yourself, just add one:
Action Menu -> Create a new contact
save that, go back to the ADD/REMOVE menu -> your name should now show up with your Mobile telephone number.
Make sure it reads: +1 (area code) your 7digit number.
Check the box - hit ADD (left soft key). It should now show up in your orange box. Write an SMS to yourself. SEe if you can receive it.
thank you!

1) Is there any way that the device profile can control the sound? I have a meeting profile that has no sound, but IMSMS still makes a sound, and boy can it be loud in church.....
2) Can notifications be changed as far as what exactly the sound is?
3) I have an unusual problem where the entire message does not appear in the anonymous log file. I can see the entire message by looking in the XML file, but there is something goofy when it converts it to HTML.
I realize that this is a fairly new program that so far works fabulous. Just asking or making suggestions.

I will address this - right now, it is profile INDEPENDANT! I will enable it to go with your profile set! In the latest builds, it includes sound adjustments - well, turn it on or off :-) It's in the SETTINGS -> Preferences menu. You can also silence it if you use your volume slider - the sound level goes with your earpience volume level.
2) Can notifications be changed as far as what exactly the sound is?
Custom sounds is coming! The reason the .cab file after uncompressing and installation is so large is because I need to compress my audio files - they are all raw and takes up 70% of the entire installation - I need to deal with the audio at a later stage though...
3) I have an unusual problem where the entire message does not appear in the anonymous log file. I can see the entire message by looking in the XML file, but there is something goofy when it converts it to HTML.
Which version of Windows Mobile are you running and please tell me which BUILD of IMSMS are you using as well - another user has notified me before of some strange truncation problems if carriage returns/line feeds are used in the receiving text - the latest build: .3162 should alleviate most of the common problems - if not, I need to know so I can address them please :)

Thank you for your support - it's a continuing effort for this project and I am very happy to create it - :)
The next few builds will include a seperate unicode version that should support MULTI-LANGUAGES - but it's a case by case test because I have no foreign langauge to test on - only Russian ROM. It will also include custom sounds and some more added features. I will build a seperate UI for PPC users - smartphone will still work on PPC, but I need to use some advanced features on the ppc-pro devices!

Windows Mobile 6 HTC Dash latest build. The SMS response cuts off after the close parentheses in an automated message. If there is some log file or maybe copies of the xml file that you need, let me know.
Also, it seems that it uses a lot of memory...... When I start it 3000K gone, and the more I use it, the more it takes. I am guessing that it is using pocket IE. Have you heard of similar issues?

In terms of memory usage - I did not optimise it fully yet - however, there shouldn't be any memory leaks - this is after all managed code ;) But I do have some core libraries in use - I will optimise in later builds.
Archive the log for me - send me the .z file - I will investigate this.
Remember this is not final build yet - I still have to manage getting my audio streams to work correctly - they are what's taking alot of space/memory.
Send it to my gmail account please!

Being the typical guy, I just buzz by the error screen that appears..... I am guessing that the problem is with the number that is sending rather than the truncated message issue in the anonymous chat log....maybe. What is happening is using my regular SMS service on my phone, I send a message to a chat-bot on AIM. There is an automated message or response that I receive and it goes to IMSMS. Since the chatbot uses a short nuimber, ie. 123456 it is thrown into the Anonymous chat log, I receive the truncated message with an error message, I can no longer receive any other messages in the anonymous log file now..... I receive the audible alert, but no message. nothing new in the html or nml file either. In addition, I am unable to archive the anonymous chat log. I receive the error that it is empty. I must clear it, then if I can start receiving message in that log.....
Hope that clears it us as to what is happening....good luck on the why.

My ISP is down at the moment - I cannot upload two new revisions:
build .3170 for SMARTphone and PPC Professional edition (separate installer)
I looked into this and it is a logic whole in IMSMS - BUT I have traced it down to the problem and have written a tested solution in build .3170 I have sent this out to my user mailing list and they have confirmed it is now fixed!

Thank you for your support -
THE PPC version does include character counting! I intentionally left it out of the smartphone due to last minute bug testing issues - from now on, there will be two builds, one for smartphone and one for ppc users.
PPC users will get many advanced features coming real soon!
smartphone users will get a final revision 1.0 - since 3170 will cover most of the bug fixes (hopefully). Next milestone will be optimisations for the smartphone editions.

You can:
MENU SOFT KEY -> Create SMS
This will create a system SMS message that will not be threaded. Adding contacts is real easy. Check the contacts you want or check them all. Hit ADD soft key and you're done.
You defeat the purpose of having IM if you don't add friends.

True in a sense. Some of the numbers i use either change so often I never add them, some I only chat with for a few sessions and never talk to again, and I keep some contacts out of my phone for certain reasons and would still like to have threaded sms chats with them. I think adding contacts a removing them takes far more steps as opposed to sending a threaded sms message to those not in your contact list. I guess I'd have to use OldSaps program if i'm lookin to sms chat with numbers not in the contacts list. Thanks, besides what I asked about the program works great.

Hey... I've just tried out build 3170, and it's working great.
It'll be fantastic once you get it to use the system sounds. The default sounds are a little harsh.
Also, is it possible to trigger the SMS icon in the title bar or update the system "SMS count" variable, in case the app isn't in the foreground? I don't want to have the 60 second reminders or app pop-up enabled (that would cause disturbances), but I would like to know at a glance if I have messages waiting. Not sure how hard that would be.

I just upgraded to 3170. Thanks for allowing color changes in the options! I leave this app running on my phone 24-7. The only issue I have noticed since my original post is that if someone who is in my address book (that isn't checked as a friend in the app) sends me a message I get the alert, but I cannot figure out who it is unless I add everyone in my address book as a friend and scroll one by one to find the message. Not really a bug but more of a functionality issue I guess. But this, for me, is the greatest app I have come across.

The "truncated" messages is due to the previous builds messages left over - the new build will not do that. Your files are never deleted with each build revision unless you manually tell IMSMS to do so. You don't have an anonymous log file to archive because previous build had a bug which would not write to it if contact/mobile number format incorrect or contact is in phone book but not added to friends list. (see comments inside download zip of build 3170).
I have cleared out the bugs that was creating truncated logs as well- it will no longer be an issue with this 3170 build and future builds.
I am moving ISP's - file download is not available nor is the tutorial site. I'll repost when I get back online (~friday).
