Has anyone installed this yet? Can we confirm GPS works with it?
I would'nt mind going back to an offical release, as GPS is the only reason I unlocked in the first place...

Instead of waiting to hear if it works, I decided to quit being a sissy bed-wetter and try it myself.
What I had before:
A telus p4000, with bootloader 2.40-olipro, DCD 3.2.5, and radio 3.42.50.
All of this was done simply to enable GPS. It was the only thing that I found lacking.
What I did:
I didn't try to relock, or anything like that. I simply connected my phone to USB and my computer, and applied the new Telus/HTC update by double clicking on it and letting it run. The update contains a radio (3.42.40) as well.
What I have now:
Still have the 2.40 bootloader, TELUS rom 3.54.661.1, Telus Radio 3.42.40
What works:
In short, everything.
GPS works (finds me in less than 60 seconds, without QuickGPS loaded, in the house)
REV A - I get over 1016kbps on www.dslreports.com/mspeed using PIE. Fastest I have ever gotten it.
Memory usage - this rom is bloated full of everything Telus and HTC could throw at it. A ton of stuff starts up on the today screen during first boot. But memory manager still reports 24 MB availible to the user on start. Impressive if you ask me.
New Stuff:
This is stuff I've never seen in a Rom before today.
Task Manager Icon - top right corner of today screen / start bar. Lets you kill a process on the fly.
Click and hold X - Lets you KILL the app, not just put it in the background.
Some other stuff I'm sure, I'll try to update as I find more.
All in all, seems to be a pretty good, not to mention stable.

I unfortunately cannot second Phyber0ptik's success.
I approached it differently though. I put the phone back into its WM 6.0 stock format and then went ahead and did the upgrade to 6.1. After installing GoogleMaps and trying to locate myself the screen continues to look and look and look for satellites with no success.
Could anyone provide some insight as to the differences between our experiences? I could fathom a guess that since Phyber0ptik did not go back to stock, his GPS was left unlocked for the new software flash and thus it all worked. But I could be off here.
Ideas?

I could fathom a guess that since Phyber0ptik did not go back to stock, his GPS was left unlocked for the new software flash and thus it all worked. That's not the case at all. The hardware is not "locked." The GPS was inaccessible in other ROMs due to drivers not being included into the OS ROM. There is no need to "downgrade" ROMs to "unlock" such hardware.
Sorry, a bit rushed but it can be device dependant and possibly require a bit of a wait the first time to download the ephemeris data. Forum searches will return the many past similar experiences of other members.

Just wondering, but did you check to ensure that location based services were turned on? They were on mine, but possibly not on yours? The new TELUS rom also includes a today plug in to turn GPS on and off, signified by a little target. Maybe it got turned off?

did you let the customizations run on the new telus ROM? i havent looked, but i'm sure it updates your PRI, which affects GPS.

Interesting stuff. Thanks for the input. The device I'm going to guess is the same seeing as we're both upgrading our P4000's. But it's neat to know it's not the hardware that's specifically locked.
I know that one doesn't need to downgrade to update but I thought I'd provide a different perspective for those coming right from the stock 6.0 ;)
I did have the Location Setting set such that the GPS was on and I did let the customizations run.
Weird...
I'm going to try again.
Thanks!

I let my customizations run, as I'm a Telus subscriber, and the rom was specifically designed for my phone.

good to hear I don't have to relock my phone to take upgrade.... will try in a few days ... when not so busy and not in need of my phone incase something goes wrong...
Just question when I decide to try it.. will I still be able to put dcd 3.2.5 back on without unlocking it installing radio etc.... if I don't like it?
Sad note though.... I guess we're not the special few Telus users with GPS enabled P4000... Oh well I always prided myself with the knowledge that we took the time and made the effort to get it done....

wow, there's a lot of crap that Telus puts in there... i'll be going back to a cooked rom very soon i think...
Bluetooth looks to be updated! There's a new Bluetooth Explorer that adds Bluetooth devices to the File Explorer... FTP is also supported via BT

Hmm...so I've realoaded Radio 3.42.50 and DCD 3.2.5 and I'm not having any luck at all. Really really strange stuff here as Googlemaps just seems to keep on searching for satellites and just isn't finding anything.
----intermission-----
You know...it's the weirdest thing. I was outside not getting anything at all so I fiddled with some of Google Maps options. I pressed the 'Reset Google' option and all of a sudden everything came back. I have no idea what changed as an option like this isn't something I would expect to fix it. Never the less. Back in business.

After looking at this new load some more, I'm with Rawr...there's far too much stuff on here. Memory is 22.90MB free on boot but there just seems to be a lot of extra bloatware added on. All the best to you if you like the new stuff and I'm glad Telus came on board with 6.1. But I'm headed back to dcd :)

looks like dcd has done a better job than telus in this case (no surprise.) really, who needs all that bloatware. is the performance any better than .50?
also, i find it funny that telus releases this update after the p4000 has been discontinued.
we gotta get a diamond in dcd's hands so we can start seeing some dcd diamond roms
edit: oops my bad, the bloatware only comes with the full update through the teluss ruu but is no prop if installing just the radio, right??? oh well only one way to find out: its sd flashing time

What on earth are you talking about? The amount of applications on the phone has nothing at all to do with free RAM (Unless of course those applications boot up with the phone). Try disabling the today screen stuff then reboot. I get 25.70 Megs free after fresh bootwith no today screen items. Thats not bad. This Telus ROM is the best I have used yet. GPS is probably as good as sprint. Locks are so consistant its not funny.

I might have to give this one a try since it looks like Telus may have gotten it at least almost right. Although DCD 3.2.5 is pretty damn good. Right now I'm just flashing the radio since I don't have time to reinstall all my apps and whatnot. Does the new free push email service from Telus allow you to change the FROM address in your email? That's the only reason I could see using it over mail2web live.
Anyone care to inform us what the differences between this ROM and DCD's 3.2.5 are other than all the extra applications (which don't matter to me as long as they don't all start up on boot)?

Edit:
So far one difference I have noticed is that this appears to use the newer keyboard driver that a lot of people have issues with. With DCD3.2.5 that uses the older driver I do not have my keypresses resulting in multiple characters showing up but on this ROM I do. That's pretty much enough to steer me away from this ROM. Before I go ahead and reflash to DCD3.2.5 and reinstall everything I'm wondering how far away 3.2.6 is...

can't send text msgs they get sent to draft box.... keyboard issues either it enters multiple characters or you have to press the key multiple times for it to kick in... touch screen sluggish and slow....
Other than those huge defects.... happy with everything else... are there older drivers in cab format that will overwrite the current drivers for screen and keyboard?
Called Telus about it and they told me about the known issue with txt msgs but not keyboard... they issued a ticket and told me to bring it in for repairs and if they can't fix it they'll replace it.... hmmm
new finding: GPS takes forever now to lock on... and I always had no less than 8 sat's locked in now I'm lucky to get 4... could be just me...
now to flash back do I unlock again? and since the radio has been updated to 3.4ish can I leave that as well or upgrade that too... or can I just flash DCD 3.2.5 back on without doing anything else?

Well first post on here. I've read everything I think I need to know, hours upon hours of reading and now I have come for help. I did the Telus 6.1 update and two things bother me. The first is I no longer can get TCPMP to work at all. I enjoy watching video podcasts on my way to work in the morning. And the second I thought oh cool, I can now have GPS! But that isn't working either.
Is there any way to go back to the stock 6.0 ROM? I can do without the GPS and I miss my podcasts :(
Any help is appreciated and thanks for your time :)

I haven't tried it but I think this should work. I take no responsibility if you mess up your phone.
a) Run the Titan Relocker. I'm too lazy to find a link to it so I uploaded it here:
http://drop.io/Titan_Relocker
b) Run the program to flash the old firmware. If you don't have a copy, I uploaded it here (not sure if it's still available from HTC or not):
http://drop.io/Telus_Titan_WM6
That's all I had to do when I had an issue awhile ago with one of DCD's ROMs and had to revert back to the original. Personally I'd just flash to DCD's latest and try to work out your issues because they are SO much better than this ROM (this ROM blows) and really improve the usefulness of the device over the old stock ROM as well. The only reason I haven't gone back to DCD 3.2.5 is because I'm waiting for the next version so I don't have to reinstall everything again.

So, the question remains unanswered...
Does anyone, who has played with this know if it uses the wireless modem, or if it uses ICS for Laptop connectivity. If ICS is not available, how can I go abouts ensuring that I have that as an option. I prefer it over the wireless modem.
Can anyone verify if the phone needs to be relocked to revert back to a cooked rom after?

The new stock ROM is horrible. I'd go with DCD if I were you.
Problems I've had with this new ROM:
- keyboard issues like crazy
- touchscreen will randomly stop responding
- phone has randomly reboot a couple times
- phone has once reboot instead of turning off when the battery was low
- phone freezes up requiring a soft reset 1-3 times a day
This is without even installing any other applications. I don't have any of these issues with DCD 3.2.5.

When my phone won't sync, I launch Windows Live Search, open the map, tell it to center on GPS, wait for it to time out, and then click on center on gps x2 and 99% of the time it links up in seconds.... Why it has to time out first before it syncs I haven't figured out, but over the past several days it has worked consistantly.
I have also had luck with Tom Tom, starting it, letting it run 5 minutes, and then closing it and reopening it and about 50% of the time it will sync up almost immediately.
WLS has been my best friend on this so far tho, so give that a try and see if you have any luck.

If you have an SD card... it has to be a 2GB or less....
1) Make sure it's formatted to FAT32. Using Windows, put the MicroSD card in an adapter.. and format it using normal formatting with windows.
2) download the telus ROM file... and rename it from Ruu_signed.nbh to TITAIMG.nbh.
3) copy the file to the root of the MicroSD card.
4) Stick the MicroSD card into the phone and Hit Power+Camera+Reset... this puts it into bootloader and will load the TITAIMG file. Follow the onscreen prompts.
When it says that it's complete.. just do a soft-reset.

You have to right click the RUU_TITAN_TELUS_WWE_3.54.661.1_RS_3.42.40_Telus_2. 07_OM_PPST_Ship file... and using winrar.... extract the files. Within that... there will be a file named Ruu_signed.nbh. Rename that file and copy it there.

Ok, so if I send a 160 char message, will it be sent as 160 x1 or or would it utilize 2 messages? Further, this peculiarity will affect any incoming message also, I presume? It may split a perfect message into 2 parts, and may also render it unusable? Any info?

Any other fix for the GPS issue? I was using the Telus ROM, noticed all the major problems including the GPS would rarely get a lock so I went to DCD 3.2.6 and the GPS still only works 50% of the time and even then takes forever. So I tried updating the radio to 3.42.50 instead of 3.42.40 and the problem is still there. I'm going to try downgrading back to 3.39.10 but I doubt it will change anything. Ever since I started using GPS on this thing I've had GPS work 100% of the time (assuming I'm not in a giant concrete and steel building) within less than a minute without priming until I installed this update. I'm also going to try playing with the registry and then I might go to the "GPS fix" and see if that solves anything.
Edit:
Changing the registry settings to match those above appear to have no affect on making the GPS work the same as before, at least on my Titan.
Restoring the original (not this new one) Telus firmware and starting from scratch also does not fix the GPS issue on my Titan.

Christ that took long but I finally got it fixed.
Flashing the original WM5 firmware for Telus did bring it back to 1.15_010 but as soon as I flashed a WM6.1 and new radio ROM it would go back to 2.07_010. I'm not sure why.
By flashing to Sprint firmware I was able to use ##786#, Menu > Reset to restore my PRI back to 1.15_010 and it finally stuck. From there I then just flashed the radio back to 3.42.50, OS back to DCD 3.2.6, install the Telus carrier cab, do *22803 to reprogram my information. Then I installed Google Maps, turned on GPS, and had a lock within about 15 seconds or less.
I thought I was going to have to figure out how to get rid of the Sprint boot screen but it appears to have gotten overwritten at some point as well. I'm now a happy camper again :)
From now on I don't flash any official ROMs. Any time I have I end up screwing something up. Custom ROMs and stand alone radios only from now on :P

Do some searching the last couple days. There have been some major breakthru's in GPS recently using PDE and getting aGPS to work as a primer to get locks in less than 20 seconds, everytime.
If there aren't any Telus PDE servers available, try Altel's, it seems to be open to the world as my USCC phone can connect to it.
It requires a change using QPST to the programming of the phone, but other than that it doesn't seem to matter what radio/rom you have (pending they are GPS compatible flashes).

After reading hours of posts I am unable to find a similar result from a user! Can someone help please?
I have updated to the new ROM 3.54.661.1 and radio 3.42.40 per the HTC release hoping this would enable the gps.
Unfortunately, no go.
I have ensured all settings are correct - and using google maps, and selecting "use gps" it goes into initializing mode, then after about 2 to 3 mins it states that no gps receiver was found? Does this mean I do not have a gps in the phone? Or, do I need to unlock it somehow?
I have found a few different work arounds, from installing quickGPS and changing the registry values (tried that before upgrading to the new version) w/ no luck, then there is this guys opinion http://www.phonenews.com/how-to-add-gps-to-htc-mogul-xv6800-p4000-titan-2663/ which wants me to downgrade my radio version? Then there is http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=TitanGpsFix which from what I understand is only for verizon phones?
So confused!!!
I would greatly appreciate some input on how to get the gps working (that is assuming this phone does have the gps receiver).
Thanks!!!

You shouldn't have used the Telus update. I had GPS working before I installed it and then couldn't get it working again without a bunch of hassle to get the phone to downgrade properly. The custom ROMs work WAY better anyway.
You have two options as far as I know.
1. Go back a few posts (in this thread) and read the directions I gave on how I downgraded. Once you've managed to get your phone to properly go back to stock and stay that way you can install a new bootloader that will allow you install custom ROMs. Then install a new radio that has GPS enabled and a custom ROM (such as DCD's 3.2.6). It's a pretty complicated method so you might not want to take that route.
2. Do the Titan GPS Fix but instead of putting in the PDE server addresses that are provided in the how-to, use the link that is back a few posts to find the Telus PDE servers and use those server addresses instead. I hear this fixes the GPS but I have only tried my first suggestion.

I've had a DCD rom with GPS working fine, then went to the Telus 6.1 rom upgrade. It broke the GPS. For some reason I think Telus intentionally removes the PDE servers and wants you to use their Telus GPS navigation "for $" program (I don't recall the exact name). Yes they remove the PDE.
I tried to just reload a DCD rom and still no GPS. I even tried going back to the first stock Telus 6.0 rom, then going to the 6.1 and no joy. I'm not sure it makes a difference but durring the dial in activation (*22803), once I upgraded the roaming list. I also noted that the PRL or PRI (i forget which) was different and I could not get it to go back to the older one.
Finally what fixes it for me was to enter the PDE servers yourself using the QPST program. I'm using DCD's 3.2.6. with the .50 radio.
I don't think I'll go back to Telus' Rom :/

If you follow my earlier instructions on how to downgrade the PRI you should be able to get it to go back. It is a REALLY big pain in the butt to get back to the old PRI (and have it stick) after installing WM6.1 again.

Not to necro an old thread, but for anyone else searching for how to do this,
I had a dcd GPS rom on my p4000, and GPS was perfect.
I finally got around to backing everything up, and flashing the Telus 6.1 rom. (Mostly because the dcd didn't have voice dialing, and I've got a bluetooth car kit that needed it installed, but that's not important here.)
sure enough, the GPS sucked. I ran many different GPS tools, and all of them would 'see' satellites, but would never lock. I even went for a 90 minute drive to see if t would eventually work, and it did, but the next day, no GPS fix again.
Rather than re-flash, I found this thread:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=36377
and followed the instructions to update the gpsONE settings. After doing this, and rebooting the phone, I had 4+ satellites in use, indoors, and a stable position within 15 seconds.
The only thing to add, is that the diag codes for the P4000 are "##3424" no quotes, and the BAF MSL/SPC app doesnt work (even with .NET 3.5). I needed to run the linked GetSPC app, and enter my Hex ESN to get the right unlock code. This is probably the same for any Telus P4000.

I couldn't find the proper server info back then so I had to do some pretty complex stuff involving a Sprint ROM to revert the PRI (even if I flashed the original Telus ROM the PRI would change back as soon as I flashed any 6.1 ROM). It was a huge pain in the butt. Now I'm running the latest again though with just the fix done through QPST.

hi
i was given a non modified telus htc-p4000 with wm5 on it.
i contacted both telus and htc today and both said phone is no longer supported and the wm6.1 update is not available due to licensing agreements with microsoft.
i do not have enough knowledge to try and do a custom rom from this site.
does someone have a link to the original telus p4000 update to wm 6.1?
thanks in advance
jeff

Is this it?

Telus_HTC_P4000_WM6_07252007.exe
Or is that the older one? That's the only stock Telus ROM I seem to have saved on my memory card where I keep all my phone-related files.

Any other place to download this rom seems telus does not support this phone anymore and it is removed from the HTC website?

Does that mean the one I posted above is the wrong version?
