Can't make/receive calls

Hi I need a little help. I just bought a new HTC Cruise and I cannot make or receive calls on ATT Edge network. I have a band new sim card from the local ATT store that works just fine on my old cell phone. I used the connection wizard when first booting the device and it saw the ATT network and auto configured the phone. It told me i had voice mail. I tried to make several calls and all i got after 10 or so seconds was 3 quick beeps and a disconnect. I rebooted the machine and now it will not even connect to the ATT network. Any suggestions ?

update:
For anyone else who has had the same problem. My resolution came when I tried many different ROM versions and Radio versions before i came to a set that finally worked with AT&T EDGE netowrk in the USA, NYC area.

You need to make sure that any cooked ROM version is based on a 19214.1.0.4
I used udk Vega R3. Rom based on an AT&T ROM.

and MOST IMPORTANT!

You need to use a "murata" radio 1.58.21.23 NOT JUST ANY 1.58.21.23 ! they do not work well with EDGE networks.

My reception is incredible now.
