well... my GPS works, but only with my original Orange ROM... i try it with Guigou's rom and poldo's rom, and it doesn't work.
the orange led is flashing like it should, but software (Igo or tomtom) are not able to found gps hardware...
I thinks a driver is missing in those ROM. or the driver is wrong, regarding to my Orange mobile

any idea?

thanks a lot

I download Advanced Configuration Tools v2.0.2.0, and GPS is not listed (with Guigou's rom).
I must try with Poldo's, but I don't have it a this time.

Try these values in "Settings" - "GPS Setings":

Software port: COM4
Hardware port: COM2
Transmission speed: 115200

After this, select "Internal GPS" in your navigation software.

doesn't work....

the only way is using the original ornage rom at the time.

I extract oem and sys folder of my original orange rom, and in OEM/OperatorPKG, their is "HtcGpsUpdate_with_MUI.cab".... what is it? maybe this cab is a "driver" for the internal gps of an Orange Pharos (maybe their is a diferent hardware)

Hi
Problem is solver for me and maybe for some of You too. I'm using Miomap and TomTom so far I have managed to use it on Miomap.
The devil is in details.

In windows: Go to Setting -> Connections -> External GPS

Hardware : com4
Software : com2
Freq : 4800
Last Tab must be ticked.

Next -> goto Your navigation program - settings -> GPS Setting and make the same configuration ( using NMEA). GPS in automatic configuration won't be found but if You set it on manually it WILL work. Leave -> restart and Use it :)

Good Luck

Comment as tu paramétrer ?

I think TOMTOM will work with GPSGate but only under an Orange Original ROM
Anything else forget your GPS.

Thanks to all

Je pense que TOMTOM marche avec GPSGate mais uniquement sous une ROM Orange, toute autre ROM et on peu dire byebye au GPS pas moyen qu'il fonctionne.

Merci à tous

cheking .provxml files in the orange ROM i've found this registry entries:

<!-- AGPS F/W-->
<characteristic type="Registry">
<characteristic type="HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\SUPL AGPS">
<parm name="EnableAGPS" datatype="integer" value="1"/>
<parm name="ServerIP" datatype="string" value="194.51.71.139"/>
<parm name="ServerPort" datatype="string" value="7275"/>
<parm name="ServerURL" datatype="string" value="agpss.orange.fr"/>
<parm name="EnableTLS" datatype="integer" value="1"/>
<parm name="Network" datatype="string" value="Orange World"/>
</characteristic>
</characteristic>

so it seems that orange ROM uses aGPS function..
Anyone can confirm ?
In my ROMs there are not these entries and i think in tom codon's ROM too..
Maybe it could be the right way to solve this strange issue... :cool:

Hi Poldo. thanks to give us some help.

I'm going to summarize the problem :

Rom Orange + radio 03.18.90 : nedd GPSgate or somethink else
Rom orange + radio 03.15.90 : Works
GUIGOU's rom xith OEM form orange rom + radio 03.15.90 : Works
Other rom + radio 03.15.90 : doesn't work (don't try with GPSgate at this time)

because with official HTC rom it dosn't work, I think there is a different hardware in Orange's Pharos, and so, different Driver.

Orange rom use Agps. but I don't think it's could solve the probleme : i already use my GPS without the AGPS (AGPS desactivate with Avanced configuration), and it works.

If you have dumped an Orange rom. look into the OEMDrivers Folder. I find some differences in GPSID Driver and SerialGPS driver. You could also see HTCGPSUpdate... I don't know what it is, but it is only in Orange rom.
So, I try to build a rom, From Guigou's WM6.1, with the OEMDrivers folder from the Orange Rom.... maybe i've made a mistake when i build my rom, but it doesn't work : Windows stop on the WM6.1 Green Screen at first boot.

I really think the Driver is different...
Do you relly think AGPS is the answer? Maybe Orange GPS Driver need AGPS setting in Registery in order to work...

what do you think about that?

I think the firmware is different or as you say the driver is different.

After samsung omnia i900 with terrrible GPS I bought a htc 3470. I used my old tomtom navigator6 ( actived again by tt) and sometimes igo 8. Both works very well.
First go to start/conf./system/externe GPS : set software on com4, hardware on none. In tomtom : other nmea 4800 baud com 4. In igo choose com 4.
I stick with HTC after 1 side step to samsung.

samcargo, don't be so sure. I have an unbranded one from Taiwan, flashed with the poldo manila opal rom, and I am having the same difficulties. If the software ports are set to the same in external GPS setting and in the software (google Maps), the light will blink and it will say it is seeking satellites, but will never find them. any other settings and it will complain about no gps hardware. Setting the hardware port to com2 or none makes no difference.

Finally got it working on my phone. In External GPS settings, set Hardware to COM4, 4800 baud. Soft port to COM5, allow windows to manage. Set your mapping soft to match.

Then, - and this was the part that screwed me up - go outside and WAIT. Wait a while. Wait longer than you should have to. It took my phone about 10 minutes to lock on to satellites - but once it locked on it was fast regaining them, even after a power cycle. I used visual GPS CE, which shows you the individual satellites and signal strength.

I have no idea if this will work on the Orange hardware - perhaps not. But some people have said that QuickGPS was setting them way off the right track. One bad tower location in the database and it's sending you the satellite signals for Spain.

I've just bought one of these good looking machines at a good price only to discover the same GPS woes.

Reading the comments on this discussion I did exactly as tonypace described on the his previous post.

I only changed the Software Com port to Com5 and adjusted my GPS program to read from there.

The GPS program used to debug the satellite data was "GPS Utilities" and it took about 10~20 minutes to get all needed info.

My Pharos was acquired in Portugal and it's unbranded from any phone operator.

To continue the discussion with Poldo and Teckynou... I've installed both cab on my pharos (with manila v11) but still no GPS. The only difference i found is an error message when restarting the device (appears when "dialing" the pin number). However the device works as normal when the pin dialed...

Before installing the manila ROM i used the ROM "released" by Ilkeny (post of 03/09/08) :

i've made a quick check of the official orange rom (registry and provisioning)and i've found some entries (certificates and serialGPS) that are not included in my ROMs. It seems that there are not special apps for gps (except HTCGpsUpdate mentioned some posts above).
I've created two cabs that install some reg keys and certificates.
I cannot test, i need someone with an orange device that tests these patches

Flash a NON orange ROM
Install the two cabs and restart

At least Preskovitch should try to launch the official "Orange Navigation" software, to check that the GPS can be activated.

Anyway, Poldo, do you think it would be possible for you to patch the working french orange ROM in order to include WM6.1 update and Manila 2D?
