Noam,

Are you using Destinator 6 or 7? In memory or internal storage? What the map size?

I've tried D7 on storage and it was so slow...

I'm using IGO 8 which I think is excellent. With a bit of tweaking it runs fairly smoothly on the Diamond. Prefer it to TomTom, though I've not tried TT7 at all.

for singapore and west malaysia i would suggest Mapking 2007 or R12 cos of the free and freq updated maps by malsing, though there is a refresh issue if you use the cr**k if your set that have the version specially tuned for diamond thats should be find... please do not ask me where to get the tuned version as so far only those that bought the phone and comes with the phone has it.

Me too. Tested it, fast and very good.

I dont know if i did something wrong but after run/close GMXT (50w version) i could not get a new fix with other gps software (need to soft-reset).

TomTom7, GPSTest, GoogleMaps and HTC GPS tool give me a "nmea error" message. The satellites are localized but there´s no fix.

IGO how about 30 metres GPS lag, Tomtom 7 works flawlessly and has more features in terms of actual navigation. Points of Interest work much better on Tomtom too, it just seems more helpful and reliable. However, IGO looks miles better visually.

I'm using the GPS in pedestrian mode (with tomtom 7) these days in Amsterdam and sincerely, it sucks. In a car it works OK but walking it works horribly, some times I can walk an entire street without it ever noticing that I'm moving.

iGo8 looks nice and has a few more features than TT. But as already mentioned above it also has a small to big lag sometimes (like said, up to 30m).

Used it since my old HP HW6515 until Diamond. Fast response and nice interface.

How are you running Igo8??? it says only runs on SD and the Diamond does not support SD.

To read the map you need to create the following route.

Internal Storage\DestinatorApps\[Folder with your map]\[data files of your map]

And that's it. Just run select the map configure the GPS at port com4, bauds: 4800 protocol NMEA and you are ready to go.

Remebmer NEVER use the ASISTED GPS never turn it on. On some ROMS it just screws everything up and you wont even connect to a single sattelite!! you will have to reflash / hard reset your device if you enabled the A-GPS.

In fact its very interesting question about the use of navigation on Diamond in pedestrian mode. I don't have a car and thinking which software is better to use for navigation in particulary this mode? Any examples/ideas?

Best wishes,

TT7 works fine on my Diamond, I installed Navigon Mobile Navigator as well, haven't tested it yet, but the entire Europe map is about 2GB, and I don't need all of it, so i'll probably uninstall it soon, i just wanted to see how it is, it's taking half the storage space.

I got Garmin XT 2008 and Tomtom 7 installed in my diamond .It work very smothly with lastest North America map. Garmin is better at navigation but not as good as Tomtom in finding POI (Tomtom way more POI than Garmin) .Both are good so I keeped them

The problem doesn't come from the software but the hardware. Amsterdam got a lot of a short narrow streets.

Since Garmin XT comes on a SD card - what do you do just copy contents to storage memory of Diamond? On Garmin page there is a warning about not being able to copy contents of SD card for security purposes. I want to buy this but not sure its going to work.

I've tried

TomTom 7
Igo 8
Navigon 6

Tomtom is easiest to use. Igo looks a bit better and can stitch maps together. With TomTom you need to have a big map or switch maps.
Navigon uses to many system resources.
TomTom is the only one with which you can run your media player at the same time. I use TomTom with the western and central europe map and that works perfect.

question.. i understand this forum doesnt support warez.. so you dont have to post any hard links..

but how is everyone using these apps successfully? ive been trying to get tt7 working for the past two hours and i still cant get the software to load any maps.. (i need north american maps) although I apparently do have them...

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how they are getting all this navi software to work on their pda?

And one more.. I heard that google maps mobile has an auto-scroll feature while using gps.. but mine doesnt scroll with the gps at all... can someone confirm this??

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

I've tried Navigon (too small fonts and POI icons and no GPS fix unless you run the GPS wizard, otherwise ok as I like the fact that you get a better overview of things around you (although you can't read the street names without looking at the screen from 10 cm away) and the perfect text to speech) and Garmin (too slow lane directions and general unfriendliness, bad POI managment and so on) and TomTom (IMHO bad graphics, good POI management, slow map updates from tomtom) but otherwise good navigation.

And my experience is not just on the Diamond, but on iPAQ since several years and s60 as well. And of all those, TomTom is the winner for me (even though it feels a bit dated, especially compared to Navigon). Tomtom is just perfect and warns you well ahead before you need to make the lane decision. The other mentioned GPS software, well, just don't. (Although it probably is my hardware that messes everything up and it normally works perfectly for other users).
