18th August 2008, 12:23 PM
This is the last ROM I made. I am leaving Xda for awhile to concentrate on my family and my work. I would like to thank everyone for supporting me and helping me along the way. I will be back....:)

Release Notes:
This ROM is built based on Diamond 2.03.401.2 and an ported with CE OS 21042 Build 21042 Aku 1.6.0 16MB PP. It's also UC ready. To learn more about UC, please read here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366337).
What I did:
Based on Diamond 2.03.401.2
Port to CE OS 21042 Build 21042 Aku 1.6.0
XIP has been fully ported. You do not need to include msxipkernel, msxipkernelltk and oemxipkernel folders when re-cooking this ROM. This will save more than 3MB of space
Removed ULDR
Changed back to Classic Manila. Too many complaints of Manila HD crashing on previous versions. Use CFC Compression on Classic Manila. Thanks to Chainfire for the excellent cfc-gui (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470798) tool.
Added more stuffs from Topaz and Rhodium (Please see screenshot above). Comm. Manager works great. Try it.
Added Topaz Program Icons

Known issues:
Diamond 2 SensorSDK will slow down the phone for about few seconds before returning to normal operations
Notifications Manager still show old popup. If anyone has a working Notifications Manager with new popup for the Diamond then please share it. Thanks !
Languages support for the Keyboard is very limited at the moment. Changing to some languages not supported yet might cause your Diamond to hang.
Weather Tab on Classic Manila is a ported version from here. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=482285&highlight=weather+tab) It works but has some minor issues.

Support section:
These ROMS ARE FOR TESTING AND SHARING and I welcome feedbacks and bugs reports (if any). Due to my job (yes, I do have a real job), I have to shuttle between 2 countries and I will try to provide support to these ROMS to the best of my ability.
At anytime if you have some weird problems after flashing this ROM, you might want to consider the below solution:
o Please DO try to flash a stock 2.03 ROM *before* flashing VIC's (or any other cooked 2.03 ROM).
o If you are having WeIRd problems (like manila crashing) -- try installing a different radio (I'm using 1.20). A user has mentioned in this forum that he has fixed two devices by changing the radio ROM.
It may sound absurd but it does work http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon14.gif
Before you begin flashing please be informed that you will need HardSPL which can be downloaded here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2312249#post2312249) or here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2412201&postcount=1first).
Easy ROM flashing method

Disclaimer (MUST READ):
By downloading and flashing these ROMs, your are taking your own risk and responsibility for your own device, not me, so please don't bitch about it if these ROMs don't work for you OR you somehow bricked your device.
Happy flashing !

Hi,
A larger page pool will allow more programs to run concurrently but the downside of having a larger page pool is that you will have lesser available RAM. You can try both and see the difference. :)

Thanks for this ROM.
One question: which SPL do you recommend?
Must use Unsigned Hard SPL. Either from Jocky or Olinex would be fine.

Will post the file to another mirror in a short while. By the way, it is well known that editing the page pool larger than 12MB will have stability issues but you can try and see how it ill work out for you. I tend to stay on the safe side ;)

Just installed it and it seems to be nice and quick.
Only thing I'm having trouble with is that I can't get Windows Live to start. Other than that, pretty spot on....Cheers

Hi,
Thanks for the comments. Which version have you flashed ? I believe I made a mistake somewhere. Windows Live is supposed to have been removed. I will take a look at it though.

Hi Vic.. Congratulations and wonderful to see you sharing out your rom here with the community. Neat and clean rom I can see. Nice works! :D I see you managed to get the Build 20273 working (...Sorry I had been neglecting my PM lately :o)
Just want to let you know that the default pagepool for Diamond is in fact 12 MB when I last checked on the 1.37.xxx.xx shipped rom and was wondering why you said a larger 8 MB pagepool. What is your understanding of default pagepool? Cheers..:D

Hi Swift,
Thanks for the comments. I forgot to say that the 8MB page pool edit I put in is just experimental. Anyway, I might have made some mistakes somewhere by not translating the hex values correctly. I will update my first post to make it clear to everyone. Thanks again for the heads up ! :D Oh, and by the way, increasing the page pool up to 18MB as someone suggested will does have some impact on stability but I am not entirely sure yet.

My bad, sorry.
The Windows Live was installed from a cab file I use. Works in other releases...Not knocking your release in anyway at all.
Still have your ROM installed and been using it most of the day with no failures. Wifi, HSDPA, etc, etc.
Thanks again for the ROM

I've been testing ROM for more than 24 hrs and the performance is great!. a couple of issues found. i'm not sure if its ROM related:
1. the voicemail notification doesn't go away even if my inbox is empty. no voice messages at all.
2. lost the the scrolling functionality of the enter button when running any browser. I've tried with IE and Opera browsers.
I would like to see if increasing hte pagepool to 12MB will provide more performance while keeping the same stability.
thanks

I've been testing ROM for more than 24 hrs and the performance is great!. a couple of issues found. i'm not sure if its ROM related:
1. the voicemail notification doesn't go away even if my inbox is empty. no voice messages at all.
2. lost the the scrolling functionality of the enter button when running any browser. I've tried with IE and Opera browsers.
I would like to see if increasing hte pagepool to 12MB will provide more performance while keeping the same stability.
thanks
Hi,
Good to see that you are enjoying the ROM. I have been using the same ROM myself and I did not have such issues. I will look at it again thought and will post back.

I personally feel the 2.6 is faster because it's based on the 20748 SYS & XIP. To be honest, I still have a couple of issues to solve with the 2.6 so in the meantime, you can experiment with the 2.5 and see how it will work out for you. :)
nice ROM!THX

Tried your v2.4 as a base ROM for personal use. Stopped cooking when the problem occurred where the sound settings panel would not close. This has been fixed now so I started the cooking adventure again :)
Now I want to use your v2.5 but during the OSBuild I receive an error in the following package: SYS\PACKAGE_Diamond_Opera_9
Can't say that this didn't happen on the previous version. Flashed to many times :P
Any idea how to fix this?
To me is feels like the rebuilding process is not 100%. Since the volume control also isn't working after I recook the ROM. This also happens on other "base" ROMs.
I've updated most apps in my kitchen as far as I know of. Maybe you can point me to a link where you've got your kitchen?
Curious about your next release and thank you for letting us use your Lite ROM's as a base ROM :D

Hey mccune...
I use 2.5 LX as base ROM..... everything works fine...
even the soundpanel fix is not necessary...

I tried mixing up the latest Raphael tools with my current kitchen.
Guess what, after rebuilding the ROM I finally managed to keep the volume control to work.
Now don't get mad, I don't need the volume control LOL
But the frustrating part was that the kitchen didn't seem reliable. When I add packages it should also cook them right?
Thanks anyway! The cooking continues.....

This is something I could not explain as well. I use the same base ROM to cook and I only port to new SYS / XIP whenever I manage to find them. All my previous versions works out fine but only started to happen when I used the 20721. Maybe there's some registry that's messing it up or something else but the solution has been posted in this forum itself. Just include those lines into one of your RGU and you will be fine.

Are you trying to upgrade the Opera Browser ? If yes then make sure you change the config_AP.txt. The cab file name in there has to be the same with the actual CAB file that you are cooking in.

I am using the Surface Kitchen which also can be found here in this forum too. But of course, I am using some other tools as well.

You are most welcome. Just trying to keep the spirit of sharing alive. Isn't this the main reason why xda developers exists in the first place ? My next release will be have the same base apps but with a FULL SYS /XIP port to 20748. To be honest with you, I am not releasing it yet because I still can get the damn Activesync to stop popping up whenever it likes.

No the error is there when I try to recook your ROM even without any changes.
I probably found the cause.
Inside: SYS\PACKAGE_Diamond_Opera_9
You see two DSM files:
- d6303521-8f20-48fb-aa2e-3f733f5c94a5.dsm
and
- 4754b369-475d-42f5-b62b-869cc03f932b.dsm
I think one must be removed. Can you tell wich one? For testing I deleted both :)

I think when you extract the ROM using the kitchen something might have messed up. Both these DSM files are found but they are located in different folders. d6303521-8f20-48fb-aa2e-3f733f5c94a5.dsm is in PACKAGE_Diamond_Opera_9.5_Build_1938_VGA_WWE_0409 and 4754b369-475d-42f5-b62b-869cc03f932b.dsm is in PACKAGE_Diamond_Opera_9.5_Build_1938_VGA_WWE. I think you can remove the entire PACKAGE_Diamond_Opera_9.5_Build_1938_VGA_WWE_0409 folder including the d6303521-8f20-48fb-aa2e-3f733f5c94a5.dsm file.

Well I guess no kitchen is perfect. Anyway, since I started to learn to cook, I should say that the kitchen will only help you in the extraction and the building part while the others, you really have to depend on reading, self experiment and trial and error. :)

Thanks. Glad you liked the ROM. Download the attached CAB to revert back to Original TF3D clock. Here's what you will do.
1. Shut down TF3D from Today
2. Install the CAB
3. Softy reset (usually the phone will soft reset by itself)
4. Restart TF3D from your Today and the original clock will be back
Thanks.

It should be Internal Storage. I don't use the HTC TaskManager. Because it's excluded you don't see it. But AS is starting automatically in the background.
Even removing the time change notification doesn't solve the problem.
Haven't found a (new) ROM at the moment that does solve this problem though.

So far so good. I had only one hard reset after data connection baloon could not open and machine became unstable. I have activated the disconnect button in it with adv. configuration. By default it is disabled. Maybe this problem is somehow connected with the new icons? It may be more convenient to use another comm. manager - with data connection tab. In this case I can disable the disconn. button in the popup bubble.

Usually a soft reset will do. You do not need to hard reset so often. Your problem is definitely not related to the new icons as I only changed the battery icons and not the others. And it's not related to the Comm Mgr too. May I know how did you got into this problem in the first place? If you can describe and I will try to reproduce your problem and fix it. So far I didn't encounter anything like what you have said.

With 20721 haven't any problems (only in Opera folder 2 dsm files)
In 20753 & 20755 is the same trouble:
After reverse, cooked again image have mistakes (lost icons, OEMXIP - flashdrv, etc.)
May be more - not sure. For me was enough the first.
?
Is it possible to publish kitchen tree (the SYS, at least) ?

I use Eyron hebrew, and most of the text appears ok on screen.
I have a few issues, such as the start button text (should be in hebrew) appears as squares (missing font???).
I already copied the 2 thaoma fonts into \windows\fonts and did a SR.
Which font is the Start text (windows start button) ??
What font is missing for me?
(I have many texts missing (displayed as squares) but I think that the key here is missing fonts, so I am trying to find them out).

Just installed the 2.9 0PP version.
Works brilliantly, but if I try to click the Calendar link on the Home page, it doesn't work. I read in another post, that someone had solved it by changing the background picture, but I've tried that, and it doesn't solve it.
Ideas?
I've also reverted back to the original clock on the Home screen, as I think the ROM one is too dark. However, when the large flaps on the clock change (i.e. when changing minutes), there is a brief display of the ROM top clock flap before it changes to the (correct) white one. In terms of graphic fluidity, this looks quite odd...
I it possible to tweak this to retain the functionality and, most importantly, the graphic fluidity of the original clock?
... and what if I want to go back to using the ROM's TF3D Clock. Can you supply us with a CAB for that?
Thank you.

I found out that the manila background on all pages mod I applied in this ROM is causing the problem where the calendar link is not working on the Manila home page. It's not fixed yet but if you need the Calendar functionality then please download the Vic Remove Background All Pages.cab and install it. After installing this the calendar on the Manila home page will be working again but you will lose the background on all pages functionality.
The TF3D Original Clock cab file that I have posted earlier has a problem where the clock's background is still transparent. Here's the updated cab to fix the problem. Download TF3D Original Clock Fixed.cab and install it.
For those who want the Crystal Clock that I use in this ROM then please download and install the TF3D Crystal Clock.cab and install it. Just for everyone's information, the crystal clock is not mine. It's by HolyFox. I believe in giving back credit where it's due.
All these cabs are also updated in the first post.

This is a speeding beauty with so far best speed of operation and fastest speed in all ways.
Other ROM's are at leat 20% slower than this one and above all My T Diamond doesn't sound line a typical Diamond. It is much louder, must be some better sound drivers and finally TD seems audible. Well done bro.
Just a small bug: couldn't type Alphabets in new sms option. Numerals were OK but no Alphabets.
Second PIE doesn't load pages. Opera zooms well

Well, if you ask me, I will ask you to flash mine ;) Seriously, all chefs will produce ROMs differently. Some will produce ROMs which are visually pleasing, some place emphasis on speed and performance, some will include loads of programs, etc etc. So I can't really advice you which one you should go for. My meat maybe is your poison. In short, you should look around and see what fits you. Is it looks, speed and performance, apps that you are looking for ? You make the choice but before you start to flash any cooked ROMS, make sure HardSPL your device first.
Good luck in your ROM search !

Hi,
It's definitely not related to the ROM. Maybe the weather server is down at that time. I have no problems updating the weather. Look at screen shot.

Also, I'm a little confused about which PP version to choose. You're using the 16MB version yourself. I'm using the 0MB version. Which version gives the most responsive ROM on a daily basis - I use mainly phone, sms, e-mail, music playback, bluetooth, wifi, weather (all of it, I guess ;))

System says installation unsuccessful because of not enough system permissions - What is that?

Ok my last problem solved - of course you need to switch off Touchflo for applying the fix.
But now the next problem I used SSMaPa tool to get Pocketinformant working when pressing the calendar on touchflo. In VICīs rom this is not possible!
When deplying the change I am getting a strange error message instead "UnauthorizedccessException"
Any idea? Is this because of VICīs change for the background?
Thanks

Well, I can't really give you a definite answer. It all depends on what makes you tick. You can test both and see but if based on what you have described, I think 0MB PP suits you better. Bigger Page Pool is suitable if you multi task a lot (running lots of apps at the same time).
The best thing is, it's very easy to switch between PP versions. Just make a backup of your Diamond (full backup including registry. I use SPB Backup) and in your case, download and flash the 16 MB PP version (If you are using the LT version then download and flash the related PP version for the LT). Use this method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2707841&postcount=4035). It's very easy and fast. All you have to do next is to restore your backup and you are back in business. Restoring a full system backup would not overwrite your page pool.

loving the overall look and feel and user experience on the 3.0
i have a little problem on this though
i know that threaded sms is disabled by default on this.
however - when i enable it - i keep getting an error that tmail.exe crashed, cannot load message...
is there any way to use threaded sms on this rom?
thanks

Hi all,
Sorry for not replying because I am travelling again. First of all, thanks for the good comments and I am happy that you liked the ROM.
Regarding the tmail.exe crashing when threaded (dreaded) sms is enabled, I have to apologize because I didn't test it because I hated it and that's why I disabled it in all my releases. I will try to fix this in my upcoming releases. That includes the bluetooth problems as well. It seems that these new builds are buggy.

Vic, you are the best!
..going to reverse
I've a small doubt regarding this...
Ok. I promise the next one will be reversible. I did this is because I want to show that I can be a SOB if I wanted to.;) I get tired when people start ripping off my work and releasing it as their own without giving me due credit for the crap I do. It's not easy porting sys/xip as some of you might think.

We know, that porting is not the easy work, so wait for Vic, as a rule :)
One time I tried to found "kitchen tree" (as CVS in *nix systems), but didn't want to be moderator of it - not enough time.
It's may be more clever way: killed *.dsm is right way for finally rom, I think.
But clear reverse is impossible.
So...
What do you think about "tree"?
P.S. May another sharing server? Even Rapidshare is faster.

Well, I have been working and testing on 3.1 which is based on the 20931 build for sometime now but there's too many bugs in this build and I am not convinced to release it publicly. I am uploading a "hybrid" build now, which is basically based on the 20931 XIP and the 20755 SYS. I have also updated most of the OEMs to the latest ones. I will update the first post for the download links once it's done. Hope you will like it :)

You can do that yourself using the File Explorer. Just navigate to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs, create your own folders, and cut/paste application shortcuts into the proper folders.

..yes I know, but by default this should be done in the rom.
Btw: When you create folders your own it's hard to change the folders "icon".

Nah, I like having most of them all in the programs folder a lot better since it's easier to jump to the program name without thinking about what folder you put it in (thus making another step). In the programs folder, you can type the first letter of the program you want in order to jump directly to its icon (yes, with the touchscreen keyboard). If you put everything in sub folders, you don't get that easy program search ability.

Sorry Vic5870, I install your ROM yesterday (GREAT work) but I have a request if possible... :o In Comm Manager tab I dont need Microsoft Push (On-Off) but 3G (On-Off)... When I want put 3G off I must click on the 3G icon on top bar...then 3G...then Comm Manager...then in app Comm Manager put Off or On the 3G connection. Yesterday I try Youtube and I have a bad experience because when I choose a video... begin the player but when rich the video... Exit from Youtube. I try one more and the same with the same video... so I choose the second on list and Exit Youtube, then I soft-reset and a new try (the first video Exit but I return to the second video and show this time... with lags videoXvoice). When I go to tab Weather and clic Menu Settings the two lines in Data is white in white and only show the two box because lost the focus in first line. In tab Messages I send one sms to myself to see the zoom in action by @mun-rus, then I selecy the incoming message and try forward, so... I click in Menu and I see on the last option (forward) this IDS_MESSAGING_FORWARD without any action. I receive another SMS and with surprise I have in Menu the option 'forward' and on the first message the IDS_MESSAGING_FORWARD
I was in Panosha 2.4 full (GREAT ROM also) but I like very...very mutch your ROM, sorry for my feedback @Vic5870:o

When I go to tab Weather and clic Menu Settings the two lines in Data is white in white and only show the two box because lost the focus in first line.
It's because of white font on white background. Download the Vic Fix Font Colour.cab on first post. This cab should fix it.

Dear Vic5870, about font in weather now is ok (yesterday I reflash your ROM) but today I install the fix.
About Youtube... when I try (3 times=first,sec...3 video on the main list) allways go out to tf3d, then I try the n.4 and run, try n.5 and run ok and my last try the video LOST - Kate & Aaron Season Five... and OK, so... I am:o because without exit the Youtube I begin with the video n.1 (video but no sound)...n.2 (video but no sound), n.3 video and sound and the last video La Historia de Bolo continua (first try video and sound with lag... second try video and sound without lag), LOL... and uupppss because I close Youtube and try another video 'most rated' and... exit to tf3d. Then I open Youtube and I try the same video and... OK!:D
I think is something with 'calibrator'... I dont see this app:confused: but if I run the video with Diamond in landscape and stable on my desk... no problems! or... maybe this version of Youtube is not good! because I tyr another video and no sound... I pause the video and return to begin and the sound appear sincronized with video.
Sorry my complex explanation @Vic5870, ahhhh... the problem with sms and the forward error... if I receive one sms from the carrier operator (read receipt or delivery) I have the ID_forward error in tab sms but the normal sms or mms is OK... I see only the word 'forward' in tab sms 'Menu' but is funny because in Menu when I receive normal sms the order is: New, Reply, Forward, Delete; with the sms from carrier: New, Reply, Delete, IDS_MESSAGING_FORWARD.

Hi Vic, I've tested this a lot more over the last few days and can't find much wrong, the only items are:
I notice that you load activesynckiller, could you remove that (I've taken it out of the startup folder), are there any other setting changes you've made relating to AS
When I receive new e-mail (100+ times / day) on some ROMs (e.g. Dutty's) then when I browse my mail within TF3D the new mail icon is removed - can you add that or is there a tweak I could make?
Excellent work.

Hi goRt,
Thanks for the feedback. Regarding the ActiveSynckiller, I think you have to remove it on your own because some wants it while you don't so it's difficult to make everyone happy :)

I have a question. In your latest rom you say you have tweaked and fixed some gps probs with a new gps driver? I'm wondering what you fixed and if it's possible to release those updated drivers in a cab file so they can be used in other roms as well.
Did I say fix ? Well, it's not actually a fix. It's more like a tweak to lessen the lag time between updates of the GPS. These reg tweaks can be found throughout the forums. Just search for them. What I did was to adjust the registry values to my liking.
