Hi i am new here, just got my kaiser and i wanted to customize my splash screen because i flashed a ROM. It took me like 2 days to search through this forum and did everything. I have to say that the information is quite scattered. :( i am sure a lot of the new guys will have the same problems.

So I decide to contribute my first post to the newbies like me. :D

BTW i use vista ultimate 64bit, windows mobile center. which seem like there are a lot of compatibility issues.

Okay, so first Boot Screen, Splash Animation and Splash Screen are 3 different things. the order come to the screen is : boot screen (default as "smart mobility" for HTC), then splash animation (default is animation for HTC or operator), then splash screen (default is windows mobile x.x)

Lets work backwards,

Splash Screen

Fairly easy, the image is in \windows\welcomehead.96.png, this folder is not visible on the phone browser on my computer but i can see it with my file explorer on the phone. I made a png and cut then paste it. then i found out the file cannot be replaced somehow (depends on ROM?).

so i looked around, it seems like there are 2 solutions: resco explorer or edit the registry, I have a registry editor so i picked that solution. first i changed my image name to welcome2008.png and uploaded to \windows\ . Then Edit \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\SPLASH SCREEN there are 2 image urls, not sure the difference, but i changed both to \windows\welcome2008.png,

soft reset! wala!!

Splash Animation

Took me a while. the animation is in \windows\animated.gif so I made a gif with flash. but the frame rate seems not right. then i realized the IE is bad in displaying gifs, it looks fine in firefox.

I uploaded to the the phone, cut and paste to \windows\, cannot be replaced the original file again. so i change the file name to animated2.gif, Edit \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HTC\STARTUPANIAMATION change the giffile to "\windows\animated2.gif"

soft reset! bingo!!

later on i also changed another field there called WavFile, so my startup has sound too... SO COOL!

more animation here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=414418&highlight=splash

Boot Screen

Took me the longest, first look through:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334907&highlight=kaiser+splash

Download SplashTool, nb_image_converter, customRUU, and htc rom tool.

follow the instruction, i made a bmp and converted it into a nice splash.nb. ran the HTC rom tool, ERROR
error: File "htcrt.info" is CORRPTED. This is the license policy violation! Halting

checked the forum, seems like a lot of people have problem with HTC Rom Tool. so i flipped through google and somehow found this NBHUtil on this forum that also make rom. i attached it in this post.

run NBHUtil, choose Kaiser as device, pick splash.nb in Splash file, LEAVE EVERYTHING ELSE DEFAULT... Build NBH. yay, finally got a splash.nbh,

now what??

Change the nbh name to "ruu_signed.nbh", run CustomRUU, similar steps as you are flashing the ROM

some nervous selections, a bit scared to turn my phone into a brick. but...

IT WORKED !!!

anyhow, hope this post can help some of the newbies. :D

You maybe are not using the search tools correctly there is a little thing called XDA-WiKi go there and there is all the information you will need. I could give you the link but then you won't learn how to find anything and tomorrow you'll be back asking someone how to change your boot sound. You know you can search GOOGLE and they will bring right back to XDA for what your looking for. You say you been looking for 2 days then your not digging in the right place or using the right tool. It took me 10 key strokes to get what your asking for. So I hope you take my advice you have set yourself up for a flame here by asking this kind of question. I have tried to help you but don't be surprised if you get flamed!

Great post. Quick correction: the registry entry for the splash screen should be corrected

From:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\MICROSOFT\SPLASH SCREEN
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\SPLASH SCREEN

Use schap's new Advanced Config 3.0 and check to see if animation is enabled. Also, the .wav file must be in \Windows. You can also use Schap's Advanced Config 3.0 to browse and choose the .wav file that you want to use.

Did all of this great the only problem I have is that my initial boot screen shows and then it stays on there until windows loads so its not showing welcomehead at all anymore, same goes for if I turn the animated splash on it will just show where the animation stopped until windows loads and totally bypasses the welcomehead.

Hello,

so I want to change my SplashAnimation. You say that I must change the RegistryEntry because the animated.gif is Read-Only.

But I cant find \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\SPLASH SCREEN

Do you have an other idea how I will be find the entry? Or do you have an idea how i can delete the Tick to ReadOnly?

Thx 4 Help

PS: Sorry, my english is very bad, im twelve and from germany ;)

I've had my start wav sound do the same as yours ... and a "chipmunk" type fast sound play. I'm assuming the bitrate of my files isn't correct and I don't seem to be able to find the precise settings to create a wav to have it play properly. Can anyone supply this info please?
