Firstly:
Sorry for the confusion I was not aware that "NO THRILLS" which is what I originally called this Basic ROM was someones 'Trade Mark'. Please forgive me for stepping on any toes, it was not intentional, and not intended to take away from anyones well earned glory. Sorry all!!.
So Here it is:
This is my first ROM I've put up for Download. I've been playing about with these ROMs for quite a while and I have really appreciated everyones help in developing wonderful tools and freely distributing them here.
XDA-Developers is just brillient:)
So This ROM is based on the latest ATT build (3.55.502.1) I have removed all of the ATT bloat ware, and several applications listed below, and left the ROM open for customizing. I have often found that Most ROMS have only the 5 tab Home, and the older Task Manager etc, so I have removed all traces of these applications and simply left the ROM barebones, so people can just add applications as needed.
Applications removed:
ATT Music Shop
ATT Games Shop
ATT Mobie TV
ATT Music ID
ATT Mall
Real Player
HTC Home
HTC Today Plug-in
HTC Task Manager
Windows Music Player Plug-in
Microsoft Welcome Center
Applications Added:
SDAutoRun
Windows Vista Wait Cursor
Windows Media Player Compatability Upgrade (now plays mp4 video)
Screen Capture App
Reg Editor
This ROM does run 2 additional small Cabs after first installed, these are adding small settings for the ATT network. These Cabs DO NOT AFFECT any none ATT users. Hence this ROM can be used on all carriers that I am aware of.
This ROM is compatible with all the 1.65 Radios. I have not Tried the 1.58 yet, but I have tried the new 1.71 Radio and that one is also compatible with this ROM.
Voice Command and all the OFFICE applications are still there, as is NETCF2.0
I have uploaded two copies, one with the radio, and one without.
I am planning on doing a fully loaded ROM soon based on this acrhitecture.
Please let me know what you guys and girls find with this new ROM
Thank you

Reserved for ROM issues Reported
First Issue Reported.
I called this ROM a NO THRILLS Rom. Sorry for any confusion but this rom is in no way associated with the Master Chef "NoThrills". Please forgive me if I mis-represented this ROM. I simply ment that it was a stripped down ROM with only Basic Apps installed. In England where I am originally from No Thrills means just that, "very basic". Which is why I used the term. I was not aware until recently that "NoThrills" was a xda members name.
However, NOTATreoFan is dead right its "No Frills" I was thinking of. Doh!!!!! Trust me I program better than I apparently speak !!! ;)
Sorry for the confusion NoThrills. Please don't hate me, i'm just stupid ;)
Problems Reported So Far
None, However some poeple have commented on various NETCF configurations, hence the list of availlable versions has been updated to accomodate these requests.
Now you can have :
No NETCF
NETCF2.0
NETCF3.0
Enjoy!

This isnt the "No Thrills" that you think it is, it looks like we have a new chef which is great but I agree that this should prob be changed from "No Thrills" that is of course you want a cluttered thread with questions like the above. Its always nice to have another chef though, Ill give it a whirl if I get the time.

Like yourself...I'm anxiously trying and struggling to become a avid chef in cooking ROMs. Is it possible that you could direct a noobie like me to a tutorial or Wiki about what steps you took to take out most of the different AT&T apps and such? This is something I've been trying to do for some time now and have failed at almost every attempt. Any help would be greatly appreciative so that I can further my cooking expertise. If you don't know where to find information could you possibly post a Wiki or tutorial on how you done it yourself?
EDIT: Can someone mirror this through MegaUpload? Rapidshare keeps giving me an error.

Great stuff for those who like it plain and simple.
Good to see so many new chefs around.

Hi,
I'm not sure if there is a quicker way to do it, but for me it was a case of locating each and every file for the apps not wanted and deleteing them. Then I went through each rgu file and removed all entries concerning the programs no longer installed. You also have to go through each provxml file to locate any references in there as well, otherwise the rom might develop instabilities. I also did some very minor dsm extractions.
My ROM will decomplie again, so if your looking for a basic architecture to begin on, download my rom and extract it.
Hope that helps

What did you use to view the rgu, provxml files, and dsm files?
I keep getting an error saying that I'm already downloading a file from RapidShare when I try to download either version

I see what you mean in regards to the hunting and searching required to locate a certain file listing and such. I've been looking for the files that run Bubble Blast all night and have come up empty handed. I'm mainly using it as a test file to see if it works or not but still have yet to find it. I guess that is more of the lengthiness that goes along with cooking your own ROMs.

Is your device Super CID
Which File did you download, the one with the radio or the one without.
Did the Flashing process complete to 100% without errors?

Dont forget to look in the rgu file found in the OEM/OEMAPPS folder. This file is the registry for your core windows programs. It may give you the location of the file you are trying to find.

I wish I could take credit, but credit goes to Helmi. My ROM loads a small hidden cab file created with Helmis MP4 Codecs. Which adds this support to Windows Media Player. During AutoConfiguration you will see a cab being loaded called "Windows Compatability Upgrade.cab" This is the file that adds the support.
I got really tired of WMPlayer not supporting these types of files even though it associates itself with them, so now that error is fixed.

Just a quick question - what is the reasoning behind keeping NET CF 2 there?
Those who want lean/"stripped"/"no frills" ROM would rather install latest NET CF 3 to the SD if they wanted it, don't you think? (at least thats what I do, if something can be installed to SD why keep it in the "stripped" ROM version, IMO)
Anyways, congratulations on your first ROM published here :)

888,
Thanks for the congrats,
I was actually thinking about removing NETCF 2.0, but in the end I just figured I'd leave it in case people need it as I have not had much luck with system performance when NETCF is loaded onto a SD card. However, your right it is a huge chunk of space (6.5mByte) for this app. If this request becomes popular I will certainly remove it and re-publish the ROM.

This was the first ROM I flashed (the version with the radio) after HardSPL'ing my Tilt this morning. I just finished installing all the apps I use, everything seems pretty good so far. Everything seems to be working fine - GPS locks take a little longer than they did with the stock AT&T ROM, but not too bad (1-2 minutes). The camera works great, too. I haven't had it installed long enough to gauge battery usage, but it seems to drain quicker than the stock ROM.
I'll see how the battery usage goes, and try a different radio if it seems to be an issue. Any suggestions as to which radio I should try next?
Thanks a lot for cooking a simple, clean, 'no frills' ROM. It made my first flash quick & painless.

Battery usage is mainly a function of the radio.
I found this ROM with the 1.71 Radio lasts FOREVER. I use my phone on and off all day, and I am constantly sync'd to my office server so data service is connected 24/7. With the 1.71 radio my battery at the end of the day would still be at 70-80%
Try that radio and see what you think.
I never used that radio in the ROM because as much as I like the radio, I have found that although quick to lock the GPS is often inaccurate by several hundred yards.
You can download the radio from the Ultimate Radio thead here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393182)
Hope that helps.

Please send me a link to the results, I'd be very interested to read. I did do a bench test on it earlier using gxmark, and it scored 1558. I post the screen shot up with all the others at the beginning of this listing.
If NETCF 3 vs 2 does add improvements I will certainly 'bake' it into the next one, if people want, or I can leave it out completely.

I'll give this a run sometime over the next 2 days so I can test an issue with GPS in the newer ROMs.
(In case you're interested, here's the issue)
Both TomTom 7 and iNav v4 run excruciatingly slow on my Tilt. iNav will only refresh the screen every 10-15 seconds, and TomTom 7 stops drawing the map after 500ft.
Because the latest (and greatest) ROMs to come out for the Kaiser have been ported from the Diamond/Xperia/Raphael, I am beginning to suspect this is the cause. Since this is a true Kaiser ROM, I am anxious to see if the problem goes away after flashing this.

Well, I found where NetCF resides in the SYS folder but the hard part for me is going to be editing the file correctly in order to get it working. I'm probably going to take some time and do a side-by-side comparison of that and a NetCF 2.0 file and see where the differences are.

I'm wondering if the GPS lock could be off because the Radio is originally a Japanese based RADIO. Think so?
I was driving to Las Vegas last weekend and its so far off at times that "livesearch" was asking me if I wanted to re-route from my current location. :) It would often show me driving along side the road I was on, and not actually on the road. I think I have a monster truck or something because 400 yards to my right is nothing but rocky hill side :);)
I think the radio locks very quickly becasue it waits less time for the satelite signals to settle, and it uses far fewer signals to get a lock, sometimes resulting in a 2d lock, hence the inaccurancy.
Thats my thoughts on it anyway, any one else know more about this ????

Based on the comments, and the fact that I was seeing GPS coordinates a couple hundred yards off, I switched to radio 1.71.09.01. The first cold-fix (after running QuickGPS again) was about 2 minutes. I haven't had a chance to try a warm fix yet. The results of a quick test were better than the original radio (1.65.20.29) as far as accuracy goes, but were still off quite a bit.
I'll keep playing with it and see how the battery life is with the newer radio and post my results.
The camera still works fine.

Are you having any issues with the ROM not liking HTC Home Customizer? It didn't seem to like it very well when I flashed it as one of the packages. Oh well! I've got to run out for a while and will play with it some more when I get back :)

HTC Home Customizer is one of the many apps that I installed after flashing this ROM. I haven't had any issues with it at all.
The only real issue I had was with TCPMP, which was kind of expected from other posts on the forum. Using the TCPMP-0.72RC1-ARM-PPC-recomp-03 took care of it.
I have also had a couple instances where the screen would lag, but I was doing a lot of installing & configuring prior to each occurrence. After soft reset, the lag is gone. I think I'm done tweaking for now - I just want to go test a warm GPS fix before I soft reset again. I'll post the results soon. If the screen lag issue comes back, I'll let everyone know.

My advice would be not to bother with the Customizer. I have never baked it into a ROM which is what I beleive you are trying to do. Instead I would fully customize HTC Home to the way I want it before installing it or Baking it into the ROM.
If you are trying to Bake it into the ROM open the OEM Package folder and customize the hell out of it, its a relatively easy app to tweak, if on the other hand you are installing a CAB file you will need to extract the contents first, customize it, then re-pack again. Windows CE Cab Manager is good for that kind of stuff.
Let me know if I can help

Hmmm...Don't really know how to accomplish that one but ok. It would be cool if there was a Kaiser Emulator that would emulate the installation of the ROM, etc. so that I wouldn't have to flash and re-flash my only one I have every time a new ROM comes out.

I'm still having an occasional (a couple time this evening) lag / freeze. From what I've read, it seems that this symptom may be caused by either HTC Task Manager or the fact that I'm running HardSPL 3.56 instead of a stock SPL.
The HTC Task Manager that I installed is Nadavi Task Manager 2_0_31261_1.
Any suggestions as to which one may be the cause of the 10-15 second freeze? If it is the SPL, what SPL should I flash for this particular ROM? If it seems to be the task manager causing the problem, are there any suggestions for a good replacement?
Other than this one issue, this ROM is great. Battery life, signal strength, camera function, & GPS all seem fine with radio 1.71.09.01.

My guess would be that your problems are coming from the application you installed. My Phone is currently running 3.56 SPL and I have never suffered with screen freezes like you describe here.
Using this base ROM I also installed the HTC Task Manager, and have noticed no problems at all, Everything seems fine. I'm not too sure why your program could be causing these issues. Currently this ROM has NETCF2.0 Installed not 3.0. Could your program be having a compatibility problem with this NETCF Version ?
Please let me know.

Hmmm...Don't really know how to accomplish that one but ok. It would be cool if there was a Kaiser Emulator that would emulate the installation of the ROM, etc. so that I wouldn't have to flash and re-flash my only one I have every time a new ROM comes out.
How are you trying to install the HTC Home program, are you trying to bake it into the ROM or are you installing it via cAB file.
Either way your doing it I can help you. You need to send me what ever file it is you have, and show me how you want it too look. I can create a custom oem package or cab file that will install the plug in exactly how you want it. It far more efficient and speedy to do it that way, there's nothing worse than a bunch of gif files you not using filling up your drive.
Let me know if you want my help.

This rom is really good mate. Quick and simple, well done. WMP doesn't seem to play my MP4s or AVI files though any idea why? Other than that i really think this is a great no thrills rom. Oh i have updated the radio to the 1.71 and really great reception. Cheers DB

Which version of HTC Task Manager do you have installed? I would certainly like to give that a try.
I've got NETCFv35, SQLCE, TodayAgenda, TGPS, GPS Test, Track Me, Google Maps, S2U2 1.05 (later version don't work as well as this one for me), S2V 0.38, Pocket UNO, Advanced Config 3.0, and Opera 8.65 (registered).
All of my searches seem to point at either the SPL, or HTC Task manager, so if you are using a different version of the task manager, that may sort the whole thing out.
Thanks again for taking the time to help me, and for creating a nice, quick, basic ROM.

I've used either one previously. I'm wanting to learn how to customize the program and toyed around with it last night but wasn't very successful. What folders are you mainly doing the editing in for the program?

Did you allow the customzations to run when the ROM frst booted. During that customization the ROM loads a small CAB that adds this compatibility. If you allowed this to run and the player is still not playing your files, please pm we with one of the files it will not play and i will investigate this for you.

I was successful in getting the first program removed that I wanted out (i.e. BubbleBreaker). Where did you locate the images for like the RadioConnected icon and the ones in the start bar? Also the Appointments icon? I'm really interested in editing some of those and then moving on to the programs part of it. Any help will be greatly appreciative.

OK, I gave it a spin for short time, and my first impressions are positive.
Your ROM feels fast (but I must add that any ROM without HTC Home running by default feels fast), and good things are that you've left i.e. VC there (since it is WWE ROM - I don't understand why to remove English VC from English WWE ROMs, as some chefs do).
However for a "Basic" ROM that supposed to be a "general ROM for Kaisers" (at least I was under impression that's what you wanted to achieve with this ROM) there are few things IMHO that should have been changed/removed, i.e.: Push to talk - (isn't it just AT&T?), Zip (I doubt anyone uses only default File Explorer, and all other explorers come with their own zip/rar support), NET CF2 (should have used NETCF3 instead if you wanted NETCF there, difference as is what - about 1MB more - but you'd have latest version instead of outdated one), button assignments missing i.e. bt6 long push for voice recorder or long push for red button, and few other small thingies, and certainly baking an advertising for Jaguar into the ROM was IMHO very unneccessary addition (since its for Kaiser more appropiate would be HTC's default black theme and wallpap, but of course Im guessing it is your personal wallpap choice).
Having said that I must add that I don't remember how the original Kaiser ROM looked anymore (been long time) so if the long push red button wasn't there by default (as I think now) just ignore part of my comment.
Just my 0.02, and I hope you won't feel offended or anything, because IMHO this is nice ROM (from what I can tell after testing it for about an hour) but it is not "basic" (unless you meant "basic for AT&T users").
/edit
this radio 1.65 i used for the first time, and i can't tell any difference (in such short time) from 1.58 except for GPS: it is more inaccurate. AFAIR it is more off than 1.71 (at least for me).

The way it sounds is like you are wanting a ROM of your own. That could just be me. I've been trying to break down and get NetCF 3.0 in the ROM all morning but haven't really had the bandwith here at home to get it done. Hopefully it will be done soon :)

Hehe, you are so right.
I'm always trying other chef's ROM just to have a peek whats new/different and what can I "steal" for my own ROM bakery ;)
I've made one excellent ROM whichg I was going to publish here, but by the time I have "polished" it up to the way I wanted it, it became redundant and outdated :) When I'm not lazy I'm playing with my new version based on ship kaiser rom, but I already sense it will be outdated again by the time I finish it.
Anyways, I don't include NETCF in my ROM at all.
There are maybe 2-3 .NET programs that I use, and I'm not going to sacrifice almost 7 MB of my precious ROM space just for them, specially that contrary to what I've been told by many ppl, I really see no difference in their performance when I have NETCF3 installed on storage card, the only "drawback" I can tell is that they start slower, that's all.
But of course to each their own.
What I'm working on right now is how to add or where "sound alarms even when in silent mode" option. I know its by default on Diamond ROM, but it is not device-specific, it is a Windows Mobile option, so it should be easy to add on kaiser. Have you did this?

Would you like me to build you this ROM with NETCF3.0 installed ?
I can do this if you wish and then add it to the original download list as an option.
Please let me know.
I can bake
Anthonys ROM -- No NETCF
Anthonys ROM -- NETCF 2.0 (already here)
Anthonys ROM -- NETCF 3.0
Please let me know.

I was actually successful in getting it baked in late last night. I also was successful in getting some other apps baked into the Apps installation like Battery_Status_0.05 and such. Now I'm just figuring out where to put HTC Home so that I can have that in there without needing the Configurator and I'll be good to go. I attempted to add the CAB file into the OEM\OperatorPKG folder last night but didn't install correctly so I'm probably going to go back a few steps and try something else. Any suggestions?

Just a quick update... My tilt got put throgh its paces yesterday. A day at the mall with the family - lots of internet, GPS, and my daughter playing UNO. No lags or lockups, great battery life.
While this is the first ROM I've flashed, I have to say that I'm impressed. Thank you for such a great 'first flash' experience.
This is being posted from my Tilt while watching the kids play at a water park...

My suggestion would be to extract the contents of the CAB file and make it into a OEM folder, you will need to export the registry and make all of the \\windows\\ subsitutions, or you can use the package creator in the kitchen, I have had some success with this creator, but I have also had some failures because the creator often numbers the files "000-filename", and often it messes up in the registry entries.
I currently have the OEM folder for this app, which I have baked into my FULLY LOADED ROM. I have screen shots on page 5 of this post. If you like I can send you that file, you will simply need to place it in the SYS folder and re-cook the ROM, it will intergrate fully, and unlike its been mentioned here by -888- The ROM Continues to run at full speed, there are no negitive affects to the ROM buy adding this Fully Configurable 6 Tab Version of the HTC HOME. Bench mark results remain at 1558.

The fully cooked ROM version would be great or just the OEM folder for HTC Home would work as well. I've tried pulling it from a few other ROMs and have been unsuccessful but am going to try again later on tonight.

If I bake you a ROM with the Home Plug-in Bulit in it will look like the pictures I showed on page 5.
If I bake you a ROM what version of NETCF do you want in the package ? none, 2.0 or 3.0
If you have any custom graphics you want shown on the Plug-in (such as clock numbers, tab icons etc) you must send me these files so I can intergrate them for you.
Once I know and have everything needed, I can bake you a Basic ROM with the HTC Home plug-in baked in just the way you want it.
