I just purchased an HTC Touch Pro and have some observations about it compared to my Touch Cruise which I've used with good success for over 6 months.

The TP screen is slightly smaller -- probably evident if I'd looked at the specs more closely but I was a bit surprised to have them side by side and realize this. The VGA on the TP overcomes any loss in screen area -- the display is quite clear and the lettering crisp. Since it's the same as the Diamond this is probably "old news" for most.

The TP is narrower and slightly shorter than the TC. Surprisingly, its added thickness due to the keyboard is hardly noticeable.

Have to admit I'm a bit disappointed by the TF3D compared to my TC -- perhaps it's just my normal usage pattern (I've always been comfortable with a stylus and use a combination stylus/pen/pencil) since I regularly use my finger/finger nail for many things on my TC with good success. The TF3D is slick and the graphics are nice -- love the weather display. But I'm considering setting it up like my TC w/o the TF3D because I find there are limitations that don't match what I'm used to with Wisbar/PocketBreeze/PocketWeather. I need to practice with the TF3D some more to ensure it's not just my unfamiliarity with it since its finger commands are far more comprehensive than the TC capabilities.

There is no question in my mind that HTC has done a great job of packaging and presenting this jewel. Although in many ways it's similar to the TC, it just seems more slick and "refined" -- comfortable to hold and use -- the keyboard is really good -- a worthy competitor to the iphone IMHO.

But..... is the ~$1K price worth what I "gain" over the TC -- I'm not yet convinced it is.

someone offered me a touch pro... i checked out the diamond, loved it and decided the i'd buy the touch pro since the only thing i didn't like about the diamond is the fact that it doesn't have a MicroSD slot. to be honest, i'd prefer a Diamond.. but the lack of memory slot is such a fucked up business that i decided that even tho the TP is 50g heavier, i'd rather have it than have the diamond

Are you buying an actual Touch Pro or one of the gimped service provider versions? I'd go with 100% genuinely tasty HTC branded version.

Anywhoo, as you pointed out, you can always change the UI, and the device is significantly more powerful than the TC.

By the way, if you don't want your TC, i'll take it off your hands for exactly free.

Yes it's the HTC UK version -- everything as described in numerous reviews -- I think my challenge is to learn TF3D. Once I get used to it I'll feel more comfortable with the overall interface. I'm using my TC and TP side by side right now -- while it's true the TP is more powerful (and a very nice UI) it holds its own.

I wish that the pro/diamond "dial" thing ont he dpad did the same things that the cruise one does, i can't get enough of that thing. so usefull. I didn't see in the specs that the touch pro had a smaller screen. Thought it was 2.8, like every other screen/

Umm, not sure what spec you looking at but HTCs website says both are 2.8

I have been looking at the TC mainly because I am not going to drop 1K on it. Also the fact that the diamond dose not has a card slot is just plain stupid. I am torn between the TC & the Kaiser. For the most part they both have the same specs. I currently have the Hermes & do not use the slide out much. So, missing it wouldn't be a big deal. Any thoughts on which is the better device?

brucewilson:

does this post means to say that TP and TC are physically almost the same? in specification, for me, TP should have a lot more power compared to TC (in both RAM and ROM size, don't remember what CPU speed is). shouldn't it be a lot faster in executing whatever you tell it to do? sorry if my question sounds dumb, I just used my TC for exactly 7 days when it broke (it just decide to break and all I do is using it as GPS to get around different states) and I just got it back from HTC repair yesterday. so I'm ready to trade it up with something more powerful and is not as easy to break. was looking at Kaiser but for some reason doesn't find much appeal in it, Raphael is more attractive, probably the glossy look and the keyboard? :D

The Touch Pro has a Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 processor MHz where the Cruise only has a 400 MHz processor. The Touch Pro also has double the memory.

I think the Touch Pro is perfect. strong graphics, strong CPU, lots of memory, MSD slot.. and all those new features someone found using the front of the device :)
