I find every picture I take with the diamond sub par and not even 3 megapixel standard. my resolution is def set to highest. even my missus's iphone produces sharper more defined pics. diamond pics are soft, cloudy and blotchy when zoomedl auto white balance is useless, always gets things wrong and I have to always fiddle around with manual settings. what are your experiences?

Original files are in zip.. When you hold the td perfectly still the photo's are ok.. when te conditions are worse, i.e. your walking/moving, in darker places, the quality runs back quickly.

I found the camera amazing (except for in the dark, while contra-light doesn't seem to matter that match). Good quality, high-res pictures if you allow it to focus correctly and hold still. Some good modes too.

Prety much the same. Only way to get a reasonable pic is to remove the back when I need as good a quality as possible, and when I do so they're passable. Find auto WB is ok outdoors, but rubbish indoors (badly washed out), and needs a bit of fiddling to get the best out of it.

Bit of a nause, but I'm not a prolific snapper, so it's not the end of the world for me.

This is exactly what has been said before, i completely agree and I did some tests on it to. Both my images showed that with the cover on, cloudy, misty pictures and with the cover off, good quality, reasonably sharp pictures.

camera is amazing on light.

but in the dark it is really shit.

I do also agree that indoors and in low light the quality isn't that great but outdoors especially in good light the pictures are pretty good. Would be great if there was some sort of software tweak or software upgrade that would improve the quality of the pictures produced.

But at the end of the day we all know it all goes down to the quality of the camera that the manufacturer has used in the device. Im reasonably happy with the 3.2 megapixel that was used but with things like the Samsung i900 Omnia coming out / recently out with a pretty good 5 mega pixel hopefully HTC will take note and upgrade the cameras in future devices.

Im happy with mine, taking the back cover off can be a pain, but it works for me! (For now, hehe!)

Compared to what I just came from (a terrible VGA cam in a Motorola V3), I think the camera is amazing. It's not up to proper camera levels, but if I was after a camera for more than the occasional picture, I'd buy a proper digital cam or one of these phone/camera hybrids.

It does require a steady hand though, and it very low light it's not good, but even in relatively poor light it still did better than I was expecting.

Its just 'OK' in the light and useless in dark.

okay. tried with the cover off and theres definately an improvement, although still not perfect. however, its going to be a major pain in the arse to take the back cover off everytime I want to take an improv picture.

push the lense cover out....worked for me

but then you have the problems or crap getting in the back of the phone

Pretty good during the day, but at night it turns to shit, my guess is that it tries to prolong the shutter speed instead of increase the gain / ISO sensitivity.

HTC need to learn 2 program.

what if we cover the hole with clear screen protector film?

dazza9075

it would warp the image, short of proper optics you cant just cover a hole an take a picture through it, what we need it some sort of shutter on the back panel, quite easy to manufacture if someone could be bothered

you have any idea what does it take in terms of sensor circuitry to increase ISO sensitivity?

you have any idea how expensive a good camera sensor is (not the crap you see in consumer cameras, which are also shit in the dark)?

guys, I think you're just being unrealistic about what a phone camera should do.

can popping out the lens cover really damage the phone?

well
you'll get dust inside, this shall be most notably when wearing it in pocket...

i managed it by putting a plastic seal around it:
i took one of those cable holders which came with the diamond (e.g. holding the headset together) cut it in the middle (so it was half as high as before) and placed it around the lense
now its closed again (teste with very fine sand) and i got much better photos....
(sry for the bad english ;D - I hope you can get what i mean)

If you don't want to remove the lens cover, then clean the cover. Have a look at your cover and you should see why the picture comes out the way it does.

I.ve been watching this forum for more on this issue. The camera is crap. I upgraded to the htc rom because it said it made camera improvements. Bull***t. It’s still the same. I take loads of photos and almost all with the diamond have some sort of blurriness. If you have some sort of movement when the photo is taken then it blurs’. Examples below. Because of what another member posted about the same problem. I will be contacting htc support.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=412397
My old 2.0 mp Artemis and 3.0 mp Tytn II never had this problem.

seriously guys....i think you forget that the diamond's camera is just a toy. this is not a real camera. this is something you use when u forgot your real camera at home. want artistic pictures? buy a 7Mpicsel camera, they are small (even smaller than the diamond) and can get you high quality pics! try!
i am so fed up with all this whining and complaining....you can not get the best phone, the best camera, the best recording, the best media player in such a device...not yet. we have to compromise....
here u have a few snapshots i took this morning, all in "auto" mode. are they really so crappy/shitty or what ever word some ppl love to use?
recommendation: if yr hands are not steady enough than stop or even take a break from drinking or sniffing/smoking or ....you know what else...;):D

Absolutely!

More than good enough for its design spec IMHO.

First thing is to keep the cover lens free of grease, which is a challenge. Then it works reasonably (still better with no back cover). I do not know what HTC has been thinling making such construction. Anyway, HTC has never been known for camaras and it'll still be a while a suppose. But in an emergency it's OK.

Absolutely!

More than good enough for its design spec IMHO.

not at all.
When the 3Megapixel autofocus diamond camera is producing more blurry, cloudy and less defined pics than 2 megapixel iphone with no auto focus, then something is wrong.
I suspect the plastic cover is to blame, but Im not going to remove the back of my phone everytime I want to take a picture.
This is poor design and poor quality control, and yes I keep my phone in a case at a times.

Nuri58
23rd August 2008, 12:03 PM
And forget about the MP - it's the optics which is the more important issue and the user of course. Even 8 MP do not get close to the old 4 MP real cameras. The fons will at best remain snapshot kind of cameras as long as you cannot fit a view finder and optical zoom to them.

look at the list of PPCs and smartphones and write down which has photos with quality enought to print...and then look at their launch date...

i think this is not the real thing that bother you. what made you write this last post is the lack of understanding:
1. why others can get decent pictures.
2. when somebody write a post or a sentence that ended with :D this means "joke". like let's have fun.....now try and remember :
smiley "big grin" = joke. repeat after me.....J O K E.
don't know why you are the only one that (it might be my opinion only) felt insulted  (this sign mean confused). maybe for you ir was not a joke? :p (the sign mean stick out tongue, also a kind of "just kidding")
P.S.
by replacing the word "crap" from yr first post with the words "bad", "not good enough", "poor quality", "not what i expected" etc, you could seriously improve yr post and pass on the same message. the b.s. is also uncalled and unnecessary. try next time to better choose yr words in the spirit of this forum.

So there’s a long list of rules for words to replace words? And it’s ok to insult someone as long as you put a simile at the end? So how do you think someone here for the first time will get on? And just because your diamond takes good pictures it doesn’t mean everyone’s diamond takes the same quality. There’s obviously an issue for some users.

I'll say quite OK - it counts as snapshoots. I'd like to see the same shoots taken the same day. There may be an issue with the reolution/compression used in the default settings. I'll have to look into this myself one day soon and try to link up with someone having a SE photo phone.

The w810i shots were from a holiday last year at the lake district, Essex isn't that pretty :D

I tried to dig out a few from my tytn but I couldnt find any outdoor ones in decent light to compare.

I've still got all 3 phones, so I could go out and take some identical shots but I'm not sure it's needed. The diamond is good enough in decent light to take snapshots which can be printed. Indoors isn't worth bothering with though :(
