View Full Version : [APP]+[SKN][28/10 UPDATED] Yet another Calculator Skin (do-it-yourself MultiLanguage)

I know, there quite some Manila Calculator skins around. Personally I think L.Sylvain did a pretty good job, but there is always room for enhancement... :p !
I slightly changed the button-grid to resemble the Manila-Dialer more, but most noticeable is the rearrangement of the calculator layout. I canged the 5x5 design to a 4x6 design, so it would be more similar to the well-known "hardware" calculators.
I did resample the skin to QVGA and include it into the cab-file. So, it should install on all devices (couldnt test QVGA though, I hope it looks a bit decent :o )
About the files:
Use the cab file to install Spb Calculator together with these skins:
Copy the cab file to your device, navigate to it using File Explorer and double-click it.
If, for any reason, you don't want to install the cab file but just want to exchange the skin manually, you will find the artwork in the zip file.
Localization:
To localize this tiny app to your own language, edit the "calculator_eng.txt" file. Preserve the english text, but change the text after the "|" accordingly. I uploaded an example in Dutch.
DON'T CHANGE THE FILENAME! Copy the edited file to the Windows on your device.
UPDATES:
28/10:
As reported, the QVGA downsampling didn't work out as expected. I did some clean-up but I don't have the means to test it. So, the cab-file is updated, please report back the results!
24/8:
Landscape skin completed, I updated cab and zip file.
For all purist among you (like myself :p):
Although I tried to make this skin as similar to the Manila Dialer as possible, I noticed that at the Landscape-skin of the Dialer the backspace-button is way out of place.
Not only being a purist but an aesthetician as well, I took the liberty to adjust this defect.

Great work ;) i just suggest (my opinion only) you to rework a little bit the symbol gfx (x /...), but hey, great job !! (i was not able to put so much color without altering functions)...

Thanks for your advice, I have to admit I wasn't patient enough to do a detailed job on the symbols, but I still have your example for a next version...

i'm not so patient too, that's why i'd post 4 version before the final, feel free to use or inspire my gfx, they are free for everyone i just made them with paint (so the tool is free too :p )
waiting for landscape... take your time

Is this for SpbCalc?

Is this for SpbCalc?
Yes it is, in fact it is the complete install-cab with adapted skin files. So there is no need to install SpbCalc seperately. It doesn't hurt if it is already installed, but you will loose the former skin.

Thaks rondol1, the best layout for calculators i have found (and I tried all!!), really usefull.
I use Hermes (QVGA) with WM6.1
But I have little problems with this Layout:
1.) Comma button is wrong, see screenshoot
2.) When I press 0, the complete Row above is highlighted (Button 0,1,4,7,Root,M+,green Memory), see second screenshoot
Tried original SPB calc + your skin and your cab too, same result
Tried other QVGA skins too by simply overwriting into Windows folder, they work well.
Pls. can you help?

You are the first I know of to use the QVGA version. As I just downsampled the VGA artwork, I think the color-map used by the program to determine the keys, is a little distorted by this. I will look into it, and report back when I update.

Hee, I didn't expected that. Then the cause of this misbehaviour is not what I thought. Well, I guess I have to dive into it again. But I sincerely hope that I will be able to solve this nasty thing.

Similar problem. I have the older version without landscape (crashes when you slide the keyboard), but I can't find anywhere to uninstall. The calculator does not show up in "Remove Programs", and when I try to load the latest verison over the top of it, I get an error saying I have to remove my existing skin before I load another. !

Wich version are you talking about? My cab was always with landscape and does shows up in Remove Programs.
I think you installed someelses modded Calculator, but that doesn't matter. Search for "SpbCalc_P_VGA.png" (or .gif) in your Windows-folder and delete it. If "SpbCalc_L_VGA.png" (or .gif) exist, delete that one too. Then do a soft-reset. Your calculator should be skinless and a new one should install without trouble.
To all QVGA-users:
Sorry but I won't put anymore time into that issue. Without a QVGA device to test it, it is quite anoying. It is realy very simple to edit this kind of skin. Just aline the colored squares more precise and you are done. I suggest someoneelse with a the proper device for testing takes over.

I got it from here, http://sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=177659, which lists it as coming from this forum. After I deleted the SpbCalc_P_VGA.png and soft reset as you suggested above, my calculator won't start at all. Error message says "Error Cannot load the skin file \Windows\SpbCalc_P_vga.png"

Indeed the calculator won't work without at least one skin at all. After deleting the unwanted one, you should install another one first.

I'm not really getting it.
Do I need to install the .cab file to change the skin or can I change the skin of the default calculator by only replacing the .png files?

Very beatufil skin!!
Its a shame to have a QVGA device. :-)
I could update your png but I dont know nothing about skinning spb calculator.
If you could point me out where to look for info on the subject I could make a try.
