SETHS V3 FINAL & V3 LIGHTER
Band Patch added thanks to BenMHarvey.

This is the Rom i have been using for the last month, it was going to be the ongoing work from V2.

I have made the decision not to develop Neon Roms anymore, so this is very much my last project. There are a few people that i would like to thank on this forum for their support through my learning process and i wish them best with their future devices. (They know who they are)!

I´m not really to bothered about Rom builds and numbers, my only objective was to find a Rom that worked well with my device. And being happy with this current one i have used it for months.

This Rom is UC compliant, basically you install what you want and have complete control of new cabs that you might want to add on.

Its simple:

1st - Create a document in notepad called SDConfig.txt

2nd - Add this text onto the file:

LOCK:Enabled
CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\Opera Default Browser Registry.cab
CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\DiamondCalculatorSkin2.cab
LOCK: Disabled
RST: Reset

3rd - Change or add the name of the cabs you want to install on your device.

4th - Save the file onto the root of your storage card.

5th - Create a Folder called "Cabs" on your storage card and place your cabs there.

Note: The name of the files have to be the same as the ones you typed in the SDconfig file.

Now when you install your new Rom, the cabs will be installed automatically.

Attached is my sample SDconfig file.

ROM LINK V3 LIGHTER

Removed Apps:
WLMessenger
Opera
Google Maps
Powerpoint
PDF viewer
Recorder
Some Ringtones

Just in case you prefer a lighter version with more space, besides that exactly the same as V3... And very fast.

Hope all you Neon users enjoy.

I think you're the only, or one of a few, people developing for the NEON. Your rom's are the only ones I've tried on my NEON that actually work for any ammt of time! Don't go! Was it something we said? The lack of donations? Bummer....Thanks for your hard work and the contribution you made to this forum.

I'm with the previous reply. Please don't go, Seth. I just went from V2 to V3 and I finally have a phone that works the way I want. If its a matter of donations, let us know. If we need to be more vocal about a seperate forum, I'll shout it out.

Please, don't stop.

Hi Seth/Anyone,
I am having trouble with the 20 key keypad in Opera. It doesn't seem to allow input at all. Has anyone had this problem?

I have also noticed you have left of the java VM is there a way this can be added?

Thanks Wookienow.

Hi All, thanks to my good friend Mike and seth, I now hope I have a faster NEON200 having just completed the leap of faith and upgraded my workhorse phone :) However, I miss my Foxtel TV - anyone got a streaming player and a way to have the Telstra WAP Gateway authenticate my NEON200 as a bonafide Telstra device so that I can watch Foxtel TV again? Thank you.

Well I did pick on something else as well as not being able to play Foxtel mobiletv anymore, and that is the calc.exe was missing its skin SpbCalc_P.gif so here it is for those who want to use this O/S ROM by seth. Once you unzip it and drag it over to your NEON, it has to sit in the /Windows directory of your NEON because calc.exe looks for it as /Windows/SpbCalc_P.gif

Well the answer is, after some surfing of this quality forum and also whirlpool, to watch Telstra Foxtel in all its glory (after you've subscribed of course) you just need to change the User Agent in the NEON200 registry from HTC_TouchDual Mozilla/4.0 to HTC_P5530 Mozilla/4.0 and also point your APN telstra.internet through the Telstra WAP gateway proxy of 10.1.1.181:80 and point Pocket Internet Explorer (PIE) to the URL of mobiletv.telstra.com None of this bizo of loading telstra cab files or default i-mate cab files (those cab files don't work and just add irrelevent Telstra and i-mate files to your NEON200).

What's more, by creating 2 different internet accessing connection profiles - one that uses the WAP proxy and one that doesn't - you can still watch all the free stuff on YouTube with the profile that doesn't use the proxy !!!

Work will be happy as well because I can still access my MS Exchange push email from my workhorse NEON200 LOL. Only now I won't feel like throwing it at the wall after it resets when when I want to make a phone call, or simply can't dial international without soft reseting the bloody thing.

Shall post up later how I started off with a slooooow Telstra off-shelf HTC Touch Dual 850 (NEON200) and got to the point where I am today thanks to Seth, Mike and other posters on this forum and on whirlpool. I ain't saying yet I'm happy with what I got, because I haven't had a chance to really use what I have now for any period of time. But I am hoping it will be a lot better than what I had based on comments in this thread :)

It's late now past 2am and I'm tired after working most of the day on this as well as my day job - what a day !!!

Hi Father-Ryobi, I'm going to have to go a bit of memory here, but here goes.

1. All TouchFLO features are there. Love em or hate em. The only TouchFLO feature I find useful is the dial short cut screen that shows the pics of who you want to call.
2. I think it is easier to make a video call. I found it frustrating sometime that I couldn't make a video call from the soft keys or menu options available to me. I think seth2006 or someone else may have put a bit more thought into what menu options will be needed when you are in phone mode.
3. Battery life better - though this is a bit perception rather than scientific measurement. Might have something to do with me using a bright pic as the wallpaper background with the Telstra ROM and now everthing is like white chalk agianst black (less energy to power the screen?). I actually prefer that cos its my business phone and the display, in my opinion, looks very business like now.
4. Runs oh so gloriously fast now. I friend compared his Telstra ROM'ed dual with mine yesterday and we played race the finger up and down the A-Z side bar in Contacts. He was still displaying the change from K to J and I'd already done the alphabet twice ha ha ha.
5. I don't remember being able to watch YouTube but I think that was because of my proxy settings rather than the ROM now that I know a bit more about setting up Foxtel. Now I can watch YouTube and Foxtel. But to set up Foxtel you have to do a few extra steps that are not native in NEON V3.
6. Google maps is a handy addition. Uses Telstra suburb cell location I think rather than any fancy triangulation and does not use GPS (though I haven't tried bluetoothing my GPS to it yet).
7. Bluetooth works fine - can Bluetooth my headset to easily.
8. The calc skin was missing in my download of the NEON V3 so I had to add that. That was easily done.
9. Task Commander is a nice addition in NEON V3. Built in registry editor helped me to poke around.
10. NEON V3 had the bands names wrong but the data values in registry were right. So had to regedit the correct band names based on what was in the Telstra ROM. I think there was a .reg file that did that but when I ran it, it didn't seem to work, so I ended up manually doing it.
11. Has Office 2007 Word, Powerpoint and Excel (why bother LOL). Powerpoint is good though. I was surprised at how legible powerpoints rendered on the small screen in landscape mode.
12. I think the video camera has changed. Feels different whilst taking videos now. Can't put my finger on it though.
13. Has USB to PC to allow the PDA to be used as a Disk Drive. I have not used this yet though. Always go through ActiveSync to date.
14. Has Opera and it renders websites quite clearly in full screen mode.
15. Has Task Manager which I never noticed before.
16. I added the following programs to make it more useful to me - vxUtil (to do pings and see my IP address), Skype (to make international phone calls) and PocketScreenCapture (to do the screen shots for those interested).
17. There is something called Domain Enroll in Settings / connections which I don't use but notice it's there. Looks like something to make it easier to get your PDA into Windows domain.
18. Long press of the Hang Up key by default Locks the phone so stray button presses don't actually dial a phone call :)

I like seth2006's NEON V3 ROM so far:
- phone used to run sloth slow / now runs useably fast
- phone used to self soft reset of its own accord / has not done that yet
- phone used to not allow me to dial all international digits sometimes / can dial whatever digits I like everytime I use the phone function
- phone used to freeze on me i.e. not respond to any button presses (you wouldn't know until you went to use it or like me missed a plane because the alarm did not go off LOL) / has not frozen at all once so far

I've only had it running since last Friday - that's about 4 days of normal usuage.

Thanks EvilDaifu - I've got the Telstra ROM currently and I will agree, it's as slow as a wet weekend. But am I right in guessing that Google Maps does not need a net connection? If so, that is awesome!!

The one thing I really need is Adobe, but I assume that's included as it was stated as removed in the "light" v3. Can you confirm if Mobile Java is included? I'm already sold on the ROM, but if its included, it's a very nice bonus for what I use the phone for. Thanks for the memory drain! :)

Oh, one thing, you stated video was "different". Is that a negative or positive?

Google maps does need a net connection to download the maps and also get a fix based on the Telstra base stations of where you are roughly.

It does have Adobe acrobat pdf reader. It's good too. I was also impressed with the MS Office 2007 powerpoint reader - clarity of the slides.

Video recording seemed to be better than what I had on the Telstra ROM - pretty subjective really cos I can't remember what it really was like.

Now that I have had it for several weeks, some glitches I have noticed - only minor and I can live with them. Sometimes the stored contacts disappear from the TouchFLO screen - you know the one with the face pics on it. Not sure why. I just reload them again when they disappear. Has happened to me twice now. And once the long press of the Phone Hangup button did not automatically LOCK the phone touch screen and buttons (so they could not be accidently tampered with or used whilst HTC is holstered or in your pocket). A soft reset fixed that. Another thing is sometimes I can't save the other party number if I have set it to prompt me after having call because the Notification of emails message seems to override it. I just go into call history and save it that way. Apart from those things, everything purring along okay NEON V3.

I'll try to post a detailed step by step of how I did it to make it easier for you if you are new to doing this. Wont be for a little while though due to work committments and/or my state of tiredness (am doing this at 1:38am !!!).

I've had some interesting Glitches. I've found that whenever I open the keypad, Quick Tasks (A.K.A HTC Action Screen) does not appear and I get an error report for Biotouch.exe. Also, the Calendar softkey doesn't work, giving the error HTCCalander.exe could not be found. :-\ I'm gonna try and reinstall the HTC Apps from a cab I found, see if that fixes it up.

Right now I have Quick Tasks disabled and it's mighty annoying to have the WM Phone Dialer rock up everytime I open the keypad. Do you have this issue, EvilDaifu?

Apart from that I got no complaints - Working great. :-D

Edit: After playing around, I've found that I can open the Action Screen by manually going into the Windows Directory and opening HTCActionScreen.exe, and the menu appears. So it's not a problem with the Action Screen. I've poked around in HKLM\Software\HTC\Biotouch\ActionScreen but can't find a culprit. So I'm left thinking there is something wrong with the Biotouch executable. Thoughts?

Hi all!
Thanks to Seth for his fantastic work on the neon rom. I have just installed version 3 and it works well. I am having the same problem with the sliding keyboard. When I push it open I don't get the shortcut to new sms , new contact ect... it works if you run it from the exe in the windows directory.
Anyone else found a solution to this very minor inconvenience?

I finally installed this rom. It's very fast and it seems stable (only been using it for 2 hrs).
However, I couldn't connect to wap.telstra.com which offer free news/whereis/yellowpages/etc.

Whenever I try to connect, it says the connection is lost.
Anyone else having the same issue?

I had this issue - go to the connection settings and make sure that when you connect to the internet you are using the correct connection and that you have the proxy settings configured.

I think I installed google map (or was that included). I also installed skype for sure. I think that's about it. I think skype may trigger quite a few minor issues.

I have since flush it with the light version and that solved the mentioned problem. Having said that I haven;t installed any extra CAB just yet. I may not want to try skype on mobile anymore as they are pulling out their support on windows mobile (news).

Hi,

Just try one cab at a time and see if it still works, also if it stops working , just install the cab and it should simply revert to pre-install config.
