you probably still need to purchase the app....

Oh, Ok. I see. I agree. I cant find it anywhere on the VZW site. Verizon is just lame. Biggest regret I have now is dropping Sprint for Verizon.

now since we got a "GPS" capable rom and I say "gps" because it is able to use VZnavigator. My question is this... Can we upgrade the phones with this and reauthenticate with *228. Can we just flash sprint rom, skip the customizations and go to a cooked rom and still have GPS capabilities, and have less trouble having the phone authenticated since it is a 3.XX radio?

Dont relock. Just flash. Went fine for me. Always does that way with carrier releases. Flashed Sprint, Telus, etc and all worked fine as long as you don't let customizations run.
Obivoulsy with this ROM you can let customizations run because its for this phone. You will need *228 after you flash.

I downgraded my bootloader yesterday to SPL-1.20 to load the OEM ROM for a warranty return. This update keeps hanging and going into "Recovery" mode at 11%. It then comes up with a COMMAND error and restarts Recovery mode, looping around, again, and again. Now it only boots into the Bootloader. Nice. lol. Going back to 2.09 OEM.

Nah, mine is hardware related. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It has 2 different refurbished stickers on it from my last warranty repair. Now it can go back to VZW and get a third.

Sprint ROM did not let me lock. Just like the new VZW ROM. Never had that problem before. I wonder if the QPST adjustments need to be made again?
Trying radio .40 now. Thats the best radio for me.
AS far as Authentication goes, no issue there at all with VZW ship ROM. Just had to dial *228 and I did let the VZW customizations run.

It did change the settings under GPS one in PQST. All of the check boxes were checked but the Transport was changed from DBM to IP. (slot cycle index reverted back as well). I changed it back and I still cannot get a lock. Before I applied the official VZW ROM update I coudl lock using Radio .40 and DCD 3.2.5 variant in under 15 seconds without fail. Now I got nothing.

several issues- I have been watching theses developments from the back of the class and have finally gotten the nerve to flash it all a couple of weeks ago. I am using radio 3.42.5 and dcd's 3.2.5 and have been ecstatic over the awesomeness that is my 6800. I am now addicted to flashing (with clothes on of course) I love the threaded sms, I love internet connection sharing (shhh don't tell verizon, I'm sure they'll find out though when they see my kb usage) I love tomtom navigator works flawlessly, ilove the speed overall, my better battery life, my lack of crashes, voice commander works as it should including confirmation, I love it all and now big red drops the update for their version of 6.1. I am concerned about flashing because i don't want to lose GPS and I don't want to lose internet connection sharing I only want better. I have always learned in technology wait 6 mos for all the kinks to get out, or in DCD's case 2 weeks to cook up a better ROM. Can someone help me solve this philosophical dilemna? I realize it is very early to give an informed answer but any guidance on this would be appreciated. sob sob:confused::(

Well, I ran the upgrade utility from UTStar's site, got an "invalid command" error, and now my XV6800 is stuck on the ROM screen. I think it's bricked, which is fine since I ordered a warranty replacement yesterday (bright spots on screen), which should be here this morning.
Anyway, my biggest concern is whether the update corrects the bluetooth audio issue in my '08 Altima, since it did with Sprint's Mogul ROM update.
Guess we'll see when my replacement gets here, and I run the update again.

I just called Verizon Wireless support. The tech I spoke to had no idea of a new release. He even checked with other people and nobody knew about it. He stated that if UTStarcom released it that Verizon would have to get a hold of it and "tweak" it.

Yes you could flash this rom and bypass customizations, then use 3.2.6 kitchen and GPS would still work fine. As long as you don't let RadioRefurbish.sa.cab (part of customizations) run, then the PRI doesn't change. The only question I have for you is what is the purpose of flashing this at all if you intend to reflash 3.2.6 over it?

My purpose is to flash without customizing it to avoid the headaches of calling CS when going from a non gps radio to a 3.XX radio from VZ. press the *228 and authenticate the phone that way and just continue with the kitchen and bypass calling CS for resetting internet on their side!!

I spent 26 minutes on the phone with a verizon rep AND their tech support. I explained the update the MFG has sent out, but the VZNAV is still not "compatible" with the xv6800. Expect a few week delay from them being so dumbfounded.
On another note, at least I got someone I could understand and didn't have to wait more than 3 seconds to speak to a representative. If it were sprint, that would have taken 3 hours with 2.5 hours of wait time... (to you verizon bashers)

I've held back from using any of the ROMs posted here in the past, simply because I'm not familiar enough with the process to feel comfortable with it, and didn't want to risk bricking my phone.
With the release of this update, does this mean that a cooked ROM might be available in the future with a fully automated process, like the this update? Or am I totally misunderstanding the whole process?
I really would like GPS capability...but don't want to brick my phone.

As GC has said all along… The new VZW update will ONLY work with VZNavigator, (which is an additional Monthly fee) It will take VZW some time to get up to speed so you can have this app installed, but you will have to pay for it. You cannot use Google Maps. You cannot use Tomtom, You cannot use iguidance.
If you want GPS, you need to have a cooked rom.. With VZW that is how it will always be.. VZW will suck every cent they can from you. (unfortunately they offer the best service and coverage where I am) DCD makes a better rom anyway. The process isn’t as automated as the official release, but it’s not much harder.
Don’t be afraid to Brick your phone. Read the instructions... it's not that hard. Bricking a phone is hard to do unless you really mess up and pay no attention to the instructions.. Do you see how many people post issues because they didn’t run the carrier cab, even though it’s in GIANT lettering with the rom release that you MUST run the carrier cab… Seriously, Do some reading and you’ll be just fine.
Even then, If you DO somehow brick your phone.. if you call VZW tech support (Don’t go to the store) and tell them that your phone is messed up they WILL send you a new one. You don’t need insurance, just need to be in the 1 year warranty period. Be smart about it.. don’t tell them you flashed a custom rom. Pretend to do the steps they ask you to do. Tell them that you tried hard resetting a bunch of times, and it reboots randomly 2 or 3 times a day while you are on important calls. This is impossible to troubleshoot.. they will send a new one.
What we need is a quick reference guide to flashing. Something that’s not 20 pages of confusing material. Just Step by step how to flash from stock, to whatever current radio / rom is out. This is not intended to replace the wiki… just a quick half page guide with the proper order and steps to flash. (I haven’t seen this anywhere, maybe it exists)

I figured as much.. That was more for the many many posts asking if GPS would work with this or that.. GC14 has had this update for a while and has already confirmed it's VZNav only. I was hoping to save some others from flashing and finding out they dont actually have GPS.
The good news is.. someone with the right skills (GC14, DCD??) may eventually be able to tap into the VZW driver and offer a future cooked rom that works more reliably on VZW for GPS (IE: instant locks and more accurate data)

Lol, I told you guys....the GPS is using the proprietary driver for VZNavigator. Now that it's officially released, we can begin to work on it.
Thanks to scrosler for the find and gc14 for the insider's touch.
I know the major coup with this ROM will be if aGPS can be unlocked/uncrippled, but what about the other aspects of the upgrade? Is there anything that recommends this ROM that dcd hasn't already given us? Is the Rev A faster? Is the official ROM smaller/faster than dcds? etc.
In short, is there an advantage to this ROM (other than the aGPS potential) over dcd's excellent, stable releases?
Second question: gc/dcd, is there something we can do to help with the aGPS issue? Can you point us to what we should/shouldn't be doing/looking for? If there's "grunt work" to do, my sleeves are rolled up...... I can flash this ROM, forgo the GPS for awhile, and help out with testing/poking around, but I'm sure you guys are already miles ahead. Is there something we can do to help?

Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found." I guess this is the proprietary vz nav driver GC is talking about. I use tom-tom and just wanted this to demo to customers but its not worth me going stock and losing my tom-tom and other enhancements over stock. Hopefully this driver can be patched to run on a custom rom too. This is the vz navigator .cab

VZNav runs fine with rom 3.57 and pri 2.03_002. You can't run VZNav at the moment with 3.2.6. The proper security certs aren't there.

I see you have spl-2.07 on there. Have you tried nue spl 2.47 unlocker which you can flash from a sd card? SPL 2.07 will not let you load a mismatched CID or non-signed rom such as DCD's.

At the moment, if you want any kind of GPS, do NOT upgrade the PRI. If you flash the new update, do not let customizations run (this is what upgrades it). The PRI completely locks 3rd party applications from using the GPS.

If you have the RUU in the upper right corner... that is the part of Verizon's update that has the new bootloader installed. Can you extract VZ's files from the exe... then run the RomUpdateUtility.exe manually? It should find the phone.. and update
Also, try using the TitanExitBL file found in the relocker and unlocker packages. If it's only stuck in bootloader... that may get it out.

Is this an xv6800 or a ppc6800? Also what stock rom's have you flashed on it? That error is usually a CID (Carrier ID) when the CID signature from the rom doesn't match the CID in the SPL (the bootloader).

can you try an update with the sd card? You can extract the Ruu_signed.nbh file from the update... Rename it TITAIMG.nbh... then do a Power+Camera+Reset... and see if it loads. That's the last resort.

OK...so I manned up and did it. Flashed dcd's rom and it worked like a charm. Once I waded through the guides, got familiar with what's what, it wasn't that bad. In fact, I'll probably cook a couple different versions and try them out. Getting my GPS up and running as we speak. Thanks for the kick in the pants!

I flashed to this official 6.1 rom and the volume seems better (than the original vzw one) to me. I actually flashed to this version because 3.2.5 dcd caused my phone to crash a few times a day. (i used 3.2.3 for a good while without issue) I was about to go back to the 3.2.3 until I noticed the post for the official 6.1 so I went for it. So far, it seems just as quick as all of the dcd and there aren't any weird quirks. No I don't have my GPS, but the GPS wasn't nearly as reliable as I'd like it to be. With ANY of the DCD versions/radio versions I never locked on sooner than 4 or 5 minutes so it isn't that big of a loss. I downloaded the VZNav app but it can't be activated for my phone because :sigh: they haven't added support for the phone. (Funny thing is, it's installed and starts JUST fine, just not activated..) ANYWAYS... those are some of my reasons for going to this rom. It's also a good feeling to know that I'm official... for the next few days until the DCD guy has another kick ass rom coming out that combines the best of the official VZW update and his own modifications.

I just wanted to say to those ppl who are are on the edge of upgrading: For the record, you are still one of the cool kids on the block if you don't choose to flash this ROM.
You don't HAVE to flash it just because it exists and has a higher number somewhere in the file name.
Save yourself the headache. Stick with what you have on the phone you have, especially if you actually USE your phone everyday. What you have is better and in some ways newer than this release.
It's OK. You don't have to install it. Wait for a little bit and see if anyone releases some improvements to the kitchens and baked ROMs based upon what is found here. Unless you are sending a phone back to Verizon for warranty issues and you want to make it look more legit, there probably isn't a good reason for you to install this ROM.
Take a breath and just watch the excitement for a while.

So I flashed the new MR update - most noticeable difference is the decrease in storage memory - about 15-20MB - due to the larger OS memory requirement. This is pretty significant and is probably the only reason why I would recommend (if I were to recommend) not upgrading with the MR release, rather stick with the stock rom or go with a cooked rom.
Other than that - some really nice (albeit minor) improvements, other than the addition of RevA
Dont really care for GPS so thats not an issue for me.
Slightly better reception
Just as fast as the stock rom (and in my opinion, still faster than dcd's roms)
All in all, not a bad update at all - took a little too long (date of the rom is 7/21/08 for those curious as to when it was officially ready) but better late than never!
EDIT: I miscalculated the ROM memory loss - compared to dcd's latest version, its a loss of 26MB!!!

You say it is better then DCD's roms, yet it only yields 10MB from a hard reset. How can you run 2 applications at one time without the phone running out of memory?
I am sure that if you are only texting and not really using the phone as a PDA this might be acceptable, but for a true PDA phone 10MB of usable RAM off a hard reset is unacceptable.

You are confusing storage memory and program memory
The program memory remains unchanged from the stock and is the same as the latest dcd rom (almost 47MB total)
The storage memory is how much room you have to install programs, files, etc. The OS also uses this memory. DCD roms offer approx. 169MB total while the new update offers only 150MB total. It is in this area the the new OS occupies more room.

RAM: around 22MB free
ROM: around 141MB free
So with the MR update, you lose about 3MB RAM (program memory) and 26MB ROM (storage memory) compared to a dcd rom
The loss in ROM is pretty significant

This is STUPID! I called VZW and they dont support VZNav yet. I went to the local store here in Fargo and they were tapping dancing as hard as they could when I asked them to activate it. Even told me I was wrong and that its simply not available. Sent me to tech support. Tech support really danced then. Told me that the GPS software is not ready although its on my phone. They even agreed its all a bunch of crap.

This is just a warning post to all VZW users who have either flashed or are thinking about flashing the 6.1 update.
PRI 2.03_002 that gets installed during the customizations at first boot can cause numerous problems.
I'm going to say this once, so please don't ask later...
IF you don't care about being able to use the GPS with any 3rd party apps, then you can disregard this post and flash away.
IF you DO care about being able to use the GPS with any 3rd party apps, do NOT flash this update.
As you all know, the PRI completely locks down access to all 3rd party apps trying to use the GPS. What you don't know is that even by flashing back to stock completely and rolling back the PRI to 1.35_002, then updating back to a custom rom/radio, the PRI comes back.
I'm not sure why or how it happens so please don't ask, but if you flash this update, and then think you'll be fine by rolling back the PRI, please take this as a warning.
The ONLY way to roll back to PRI 1.35_002 and KEEP it while still using a custom rom/radio is:
1. Flash back to stock, let customizations run to roll back the PRI.
2. Update SPL to 2.40 via USB. DO NOT USE SPL 2.47 IT WILL NOT WORK.
3. Flash either the 3.35 or 3.56 Sprint Update and do NOT let Sprint customizations run at first boot (THIS STEP IS REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN THE PRI)
4. Now you can flash your custom rom/radio of your choice and the PRI should read 1.35_002.
There's more.
I didn't label this thread PRI from hell for no reason. After you've successfully rolled back the PRI to 1.35_002, your DMU keys will be corrupt causing you to be without data. There are only 3 ways to fix this:
1. If you have an old handset (non pda/smartphone), log in to your VZW account online and activate it. This will prompt you to remove the data feature codes from your plan. Once complete, reactivate the xv6800 and add back the data feature codes you removed. Wait 2 minutes and dial *22899. If it says you need to be authenticated first, you may need to call customer service and have them authenticate you. Then dial *22899 again.
2. If you don't have an old handset to activate, you need to call customer service and get them to perform a DMU reset on your device. Also have them remove all data feature codes from your account and add them back on.
3. Swap out your phone.
If you care about being able to use 3rd party apps with the GPS, DO NOT let the PRI update as you WILL regret it.

Yeah, I had to do the data services removal thing back when I went from the 6600 to the 6700 and it was a painful process dealing with Verizon to get it done. I was without my phone for a week because it somehow threw up a "red flag" on my account which prevented them from adding the data plan back and even activating the 6700!! No fun spending almost $400 on a phone and not being able to activate it because of the poor logistics from the carrier. Maybe they've gotten better with that whole process by now, I dunno...but back then....

It doesnt have to be a PDA phone. I swapped back to an old LG VX9800 which is NOT a PPC phone. Didint even bother turning the LG phone on. 30 seconds later I swapped it back to my XV6800. Less than 45 seconds later I dialed *228.
Yes, it asked me to take data off because the "new" phone could not support it. Once swapped back to the 6800 it gave me a list of services I could add so I added data and all was well.

First guy told me to press 1 after a #228 voice-prompt, which doesn't exist. Up shot is that the second technician figured it out, and credited me $5 off my bill for our 30 min call on two Verizon phones.
Upon asking about using the GPS on my phone with 3rd party apps, they stated that there's still way too much "Red Tape", even with their own VZNav. So I wouldn't hold your breath to much for support there.

I tried that with my WM 6.1.
It wiped out my audio and even when I REMOVED
it - I could not get the Audio Back.
I'm reloading WM 6.1 from Scratch.

That's too bad. Since it's worked for others, perhaps the problem is specific to your particular phone or setup.
Good luck.

Or I did something wrong - but there were no Instructions.

If you do try again, back up (or copy) your original audiopara file first so you can go back to it if it screws up ur phone again...

Try this one by GC14. Its the best I have used. Worked on stock and cooked ROMS. I cook the .csv into all my ROMs now.

When I finish the rest of my restoration process.
I'll look for that file.
I Assume it is in the REGISTRY?

You are recommending the File in Post #4 versus Post #3.

It's in the the windows dir. You will need to check 'show all files' to even view it...

I'm having difficulty flashing the update on my phone. It keeps locking up at 11% complete and then giving me an error message and leaves the phone in bootloader. I'm on Olipro 1.20 right now, should I be on a different unlocker or is there something else that I need to change before flashing this official update. I flashed plenty of custom roms without difficulty so I'm not sure what it is I'm doing wrong now.

Before trying the VZW rom (to try to improve my reception on the network given my location), I want to make sure that ICS is implemented before going over to the dark side, if only to try it out.
Thanks,
Les

Nope, its not. There are fixes for that though. Would need to search around.
Also, Radio .42.50 gave me better reception than radio 3.37.75 that comes with the ROM. Best reception that I ever got was 3.42.40 from the telus ROM. Running that now.

Is there anything in the official WM6.1 ROM update that would stop you from editing some of the registry keys? I made some changes to the security policies but still can't edit some other keys and have the changes stay. Is there something else I have to do to fully unlock the registry? This didn't happen with WM6.
