It's incredible to notice that a 500 Euro phone it's sold with:
-Lag in the TF3D
-Lag in the music player
-Lag in the GPS
-Lag in phone calls
It's incredible that HTC has not fixed yet these problems!!!After months!!!
I am very disappointed and feel very angry, but it looks that all I can do is sell it.
It's not acceptable that there is nothing working perfectly with the phone:UI?no,it's slow,GPS?No it's laggy, phone? No,has problems,mp3 player? No,lags randomly.

So, read up and fix it. Update your ROM from the HTC E-club, or use a cooked ROM.
A PPC is not just a mobile phone.

Its working perfectly at collecting my greasy fingerprints. I've never seen any phone do it with such speed and effiency.
So at least something is working perfectly.

Some problems are fixed, but it is true that there are still other bugs that has neither a phone 20€ and that could be solved very easily (As to block the screen when we have a call...)

It is annoying how some people join this forum just to rant.
If you have problems with TF3D, make sure you use the latest ROM 1.93 or a cooked ROM. Increase the screen sensitivity (registry hack). Or turn off TF3D like I have done, and install SPB Mobile Shell. I use Mobile Shell not because TF3D lags, but because I don't find it very practical.
The Touch Diamond is a PDA, not just a phone. If you don't like the inbuilt music player, install another one.
I dont experience any lag with my GPS using TomTom or Google Maps.
Another tip is to adjust the settings in Task Manager so that applications close when you press 'X' rather than the default minimise. Any PPC can lag if it runs out of RAM.

Hei!I didn't offend anybody so don't you please!
Anyway, I expect the solution from HTC because they are responsible of the money I spent.
The Touch Diamond is a PDA,thanks for your explanation. So GPS and music are function of a PDA,and they simply don't work perfectly. Before posting please read the threads about GPS lag and music lag it is not something related to the software we install is so much more complicated.
If someone is not affected by this bugs, this doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist.

So when you buy a car,you repair it by yourself...even if it's in guarantee period.
Risking to make the whole thing worse.
I respect your point of view.
But mine it's a question of principle, and responsability.
Not everybody has the time to (try to) repair the job that is supposed to be I don't say perfect but almost perfect.
I am not talking of minor bugs, but of the core of the PDA,the GPS!The player! The TF3D!What else i am buying it for?If it was only a phone I would buy a 30 Euro one.

Mybe HTC are not for you.
all HTC telephone needing to be "Tuned" and "tweaked" to make it work better and to unlock some "hiddens" features.ALL HTCs.
I already know that for all new htc products i could buy i must tweak and optimize to use it well.
If you post here maybe you know what i say.
1)With latest ROMS TF3D's lag its absent (or at least almost gone.surely much much faster than a nokia n73)
2)My GPS Dont Lag so i dont know.
3)my mp3 plays perfectly so i cant comprehned what are you saying.
Maybe its your fault.
Sell It and buy a 30 euro phone or an Iphone. Or Maybe an Samsung OMNIA.

I agree that HTC phones are toys need to be tuned but other phones arent perfect and you havent such a support as here in XDA-dev...
but I agree with you in one think phone for 500$ should play MP3s perfectly but many users already announced annoying lag or skip during playback and nobody figured it out yet...

Lag in TF3D? The Two ROM updates didn't fix it for you like it did for everyone else then?
Lag in MP3? check your bit rates. HTC devices have never really liked VBR files or bit rates over 128kbps. try a lower bit rate and see if this fixes it.
Lag in GPS? so far i can only find a very few people who have this issue compared to the thousands that have been sold, which leads me to believe that it is a software issue. ROM's, tweaks applied etc. can't say i have had this on either the diamond or the Touch Pro. this one needs more looking into, which is exactly what the guys here are trying to do, cos HTC can't re-create it yet.
Oh, and there's a name for people that turn up just to complain.....but i won't repeat it here in polite society.

what are you talking about??? VBR maybe but normal MP3 with constant bitrate less then 128kbps??? are you crazy did you hear something less then 128kbps bull..it...it has 528MHz processor so dont try to excuse HTC ignorants its not about bitrate or power of unit...like I wrote elsewhere on Kaiser with 400MHz processor everything was just fine so try another excuse or lie...
BTW doesnt mather VBR or constant bitrate

28th August 2008, 06:42 PM
My Artemis, Athena, and Hermes didn't like VBR files. Not unless i installed coreplayer/TCPMP. So no I'm not crazy, a liar or HTC apologist. I'm a guy who's owned loads of these things and am trying to help.
96kbps is plenty good enough for listening to on the commute to work in the morning. lets face it, it's the same quality as on most FM radio stations and people have been listening to those for years! That's why i suggested it. it's not ideal, but maybe it will help until someone can fix the problem properly.
oh, and there's a name for people like you too......:D

I still get lag on MP3s even at 96kbps.
I agree that most other issues are now fixed (mainly by forum members) but the sound problem is still there (I have tried numerous ROMs up to SwiftBlades #6).
I have also owned HTC devices for along time, my previous Orbit & Orbit 2 (Touch Cruise) + Prophet all played high bitrate VBR files with no problem using numerous players. WM is generally very good at this sort of thing.
I've only ever had this problem with the Diamond, which otherwise I continue to like.
As stated in previous posts, I'm not in either the "blind adoration" or the "ranting hate" camps, but I do sympathise with those people who, like me, use it as their primary MP3 player.
If only HTC would at least tell us that they acknowledge the problem and are working on it...

28th August 2008, 07:01 PM
but 96kbps isnt enough quality for me my diamond and in-ear headphones with great sound...as well as FM radio but which I can excuse because of many conditions like enviroment and quality of signal...
I agree that VBR can be problem also for some standalone MP3 players...
so sorry for my boom of words but it looks like youre holding brief for HTC because diamond costs so much and you re trying to be satisfied... but you have to agree with me that this MP3 playing situation is inexcusable for 500$ multimedia device...maybe its time to do something with it because new ROM is so far away I think...

28th August 2008, 07:03 PM
a device that costs as much as a medium sized computer should not have any issue playing mp3, vbr or otherwise, right out of the box.
i had a qtek 9100 for three years and it has given me more crap than i could imagine. only after overclocking it 100MHz up and using a 6.1 rom it was even slightly usable. and i can't buy the diamond because from what i read in the forum it needs tweaking just to get it working basicaly
i could play movies, get on the web, do a lot of stuff on a machine that had a quarter of ram of the diamond and a tenth of the cpu power.
if you don't "see" that these devices are seriously lacking in performance, considering the hardware they are using... i don't know what to say. 500+ MHz risc cpu, with a media-based coprocessor... 192MB of ddr... and there is noticeable lag? in anything ? there shouldn't be. end of story

Fair enough. Each to their own on the quality thing.
Believe me, I have no reason to be holding brief for HTC. I've owned enough of their phones in the last 5 years to know that they are far from perfect, and yet I still keep coming back to them for some god unknown reason. I guess there's a word for people like me too....:D
yes, it shouldn't be the way it is, but sadly, as is the way of the world, things are...just look at the jesus phone and it's crappy 3g reception!
and besides, having been a part of this community since 2005, (on my second HTC phone back then!) i know that eventually, everything will get sorted out here and so i put up with the little niggles and just get on with life instead, happy in the knowledge that sooner or later, my new toy will be perfect!
Hopefully things will get fixed nice and quick, but as for the diamond at the moment, mine has none of these problems. so i cannot say for sure what causes them i can only offer suggestions.
so sorry for my boom of words
forgotten already. i'm not one to dwell on people calling me names. it's not worth me getting wound up about for anything more than the time it takes me to roll a ciggy!
Maybe, it'll all go horribly wrong in a month or so and i might be swearing and shouting as well!!
I still get lag on MP3s even at 96kbps.
That truly is crap! i don't know what else to suggest. coreplayer is always a good one, but again the argument is that it shouldn't be needed.
i guess whatever we do, we're doomed by our choice of phones and the Microsoft OS!!

i am running a O2 XDA Diamond with that old ROM....i do have some lags in TF3D, i got the headset bug....but there are no other problems that i found.
GPS works perfect (TomTom 7 with Western Europe Map Version 7 ^^);
videos run perfect...;
MP3 player works without lags (i use it about 5 Hours per Day)...ok there is the headset bug...but it isnt that hard to disable the audiobooster....disconnect the headset with music still playing and then connect it again...
ill try other roms @ the weekend...
i like my diamond....even my neo was great (well with the stuff of xda devs of course ^^)

I can sympathise with the OP here. The question you need to ask yourself is whether you want a phone that will inevitably end up being a kind of hobbie - you'll constantly be researching how to improve it, which does I can imagine, have its highs and lows.
I got my HTC Diamond today from Orange and I could not believe how bad the lag was; I would go as far as to say that it was barely usable. I installed Swift v.60 and it's made a HUGE difference. I would say there is still some lag, but it's now a decent phone. I am undecided as to whether I will keep it (I have 7 days to decide) as it's too soon, but thank goodness for cooked ROMs and the kind people who make them!
The issues i'm currently trying to resolve are GPS related - opening web-pages is very slow at the moment. So i'm going to d/l a new radio...
Other than that, it's a question of getting used to a new phone. I think HTC should pull their finger out and sort the Diamond out, it's a disgrace that people are doing their job for them...FOR FREE!

Hello htcenrico...
the HTC DIAMOND is a Slow phone by standard but its easy to fix and wont take more than 30 mins of your time
I Suggest you put in a new cooked rom for your phone, There is several ROMS available Here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=430)
And guide to Preparing and installing ROMS can be found Here (http://modmydiamond.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=26&limit=1&limitstart=1) and Here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416211)
Hope that solves your problem

Example with cars? Sure. I've bought an Opel and it doesn't accelerate like a Ferrari... I think i should sue Opel on this one as they are advertising it as a fast car... Stop complaining this is a WM mobile. Unlike Applephone or Symbian platforms you can tweak it like no other. If that is not your case than just return it. MP3 lag? Install a different player. I don't have it in a native one anyway. GPS lag? Already fixed with a tweak on CPU usage. TF3D lag? Apply tweaks and u'll be fine... Or just disable it.

there are ppl that bought this device having very high expectations. the moment they understand that in order to have their "dream machine" they also have to invest some time they get frustrated and feel the urge to vent. the forum is full with this kind of threads. i do not understand ppl that came here to complain. to complain to who? to this forum? why? here you'll find the most talented ppl in the field, ppl that are doing everything to make the diamond better! go complain to HTC! cry, shout ask your money back, ask for compensations. coming here and complaining is useless.
i have my diamond for almost 3 month now. had all kind of devices: nokia, motorola v3, imate, trinity, htc athena. the diamond is the best. maybe i love him in spite and because of the many hours i spent to make it the way it is today. the hours spent here learning worth ten times more than 1000$ i paid.
the analogy with car is very adequate. you can buy a car with 120HP and tune it to 180HP.
tuning is the right word for flashing and tweaking the diamond.
one thing is sure: this is not a device for the technically challenged ppl!

You are right in the point I have to complain to HTC.
Who else?
But it's difficult for me to catch the filosophy of many here: the point is that I bought something that is sold for a Ferrari, and in the truth is behaving like a Smart.
Many of you tell to spend time tweaking and tuning and changing unofficial rom,for me this is called wasting time and frustration.
This is only my point of view, for many of you instead it is a challenge: so HTC developers next time do you job even worsly! So there will be more challenge,at the end of the story:(
