Hey udK!

You saved my day, lets say week :D. I think it is a very good decision to have this development started from this forum rather than trusting HTC on that with their pending WM 6.1 Upgrade release. Good move to have this (almost) ready to not be too disappointed if HTC fails to deliver.

I think in 1-2months every polaris user here will be just using your ROMs (hopefully also translated) with the drivers.

There comes the new Orbit 2 Rom out these days. Will u use it for ur next version of rom? Ofc its a german Rom... and a little tweak for that would be absolut cool.

When there is the german version of 6.1 is available with drivers, ill also have to spend a little. GREAT work!

Obviously everyone's very excited by this news, but I'd caution everyone to be patient here.

Remember this is something udK is doing in his spare time and having tons of people posting replies and sending him pm's with demands for an ETA and videos and things of that nature probably isn't very helpful. Showing enthusiasm and interest for the project is nice but this isn't the guy's day job! :)

Isn't it funny how really popular threads like this one fill up with nonsense so quickly? If udK had just given a little more information we did'nt have to ask as much. Benchmarks is not the same as real performance. You can "easily" create a driver that skips drawing half the frames tricking a benchmark into thinking the actual framerate is double what real performance is.

If I'm to beleive that udK has found the holy grail for real he needs to share some information and deliver the promised video he talked about. If the news is that he's baked the Omnia "driver" ,which is nothing but an optimized, but generic WM driver, into his R9 ROM this is no real news. A lot of guys have installed the drivers and had some performance improvement.

If however he has managed to tap into the Polaris hardware and actually use the GPU for accecllerated graphics then kudos to udK. Why the need to be so damn secretive?

for JAYmasta: The only thing you (and all whenwillbeitdone ones) will achieve with your posts is that next time udK won't post early massage of incoming improvement so soon and he will wait until his work is done and his roms/drivers will be rock-stable. udK knows what means for every user of Polaris +200% improvement of graphical performance and if he could make cab driver package i believe he would do so.

For everyone: Think before you write a post. One third of this thread is futile asking about ETA, second third is consequent flame and the last is "thank you massages". I of course forgot first udK's massage which is only important (for me) massage in this thread. Be patient, every line that udK has to write in his posts means delaying of one line in source code of new rom. I personaly didn't expressed udK's support or gratitude,because udK can imagine that this is the most important massage since massage "Polaris has no 3d drivers".

I wish udK had more time for everything he would like to do and I'm very glad that he chose to spend most(I assume from his production rate of roms) of his free time to do something which is so important for all users of Polaris. And I believe this thread is read by throngs of them. More users don't know about this upcoming improvement, but I believe that even those who cared about their guarantee and stayed on original rom will flash when R9 is complete.

I tested the driver on HTC action (the last one).
It's working good in 2D. It improved a lot performances on Polaris. Driver is "out of box".

the omnia drivers show improvment as well... it's not noticable in all programs but in some... and especially those with heavy graphics.

Don't worry, the R9 with the new Driver does not coming soon, I've a lot of work to do in the R9.

btw, the problem on the non-WWE ROM isn't port a new build but translate and testing all packages, porting a new WM build take just 2 minutes.

1. Yes, you can. I have an Orbit II as well, this Polaris-Forum is exactly as good for Orbit II as for TC.

Unfortunately I don't think it'll be that easy. I say that because as far as I know the Kaiser drivers from htcclassaction.org don't work on the Polaris currently and they have very similar, if not the same, hardware.

I'm very much just an end user, though, and have no basis for my theory other than what I've seen around here. Udk might be able to generalize the video drivers for the hardware chipset, though.
