-============================================

Inspired by XPERIA. This theme is for QVGA devices only. Optimized for portrait mode use, but also supports landscape mode.

I based the graphics on screenshots I've seen around the net (which is not so many ATM). I'll update this as soon as there are more clear screenshots available. Or if anyone can provide me with the original background image of the XPERIA, that would be much better. I welcome any suggestions regarding graphics and layout. Just post your requests here.

NOTE: I designed this for Mobile Shell 2.1.2, but it should work on version 2.1 (please see post#10 for minor issues if used with version 2.1 instead of 2.1.2)

Features:
1) Now Screen, Calendar page, Launcher Page, MRU Page, 3 Contacts pages. (Gesture left or right to get to the MRU and other Contacts pages.)
2) Selecting any of the Color Themes will result in a change in the Today wallpaper similar to the theme's background image.
3) If you prefer flat black bars (which I think goes well with the theme), please see corresponding post below.
4) I added additional Main Menu icons (please see corresponding post below.)
5) For Games and Task Menu items with correct Menu Icons, please see post below.

Screenshots:

http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/783/screenshotsam9.png

How to install:
1) Download zip file attached.
2) Extract on your hard drive.
3) Copy all extracted .dat files to your device's \Program Files\Spb Mobile Shell directory.
4) Soft reset device.

Enjoy!

How to add the Games and Running Apps (Active Tasks) menu items:

1) Download the cab file below.
2) Copy to your device.
3) Using File Explorer (or the like) run the cab file on your device.
4) Go to SPB Menu > Settings > Customize Menu > [Make sure "Running Apps" and/or "Games" are ticked (checked)]

I added additional Main Menu icons as follows:

http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/1668/menuiconsmea9.png

How to change the Main Menu icons:

1) Using a registry editor, navigate to HKLM > Software > SPB Software House 2 > SPB Mobile Shell > Menu > Root
2) Open the key you want to change, e.g. "Active Tasks"
3) Change "Image" value.

Image values as follows:
4 = My Menu icon
8 = Games icon
9 = Active Tasks icon
10 = File Folder icon (can be used if you use the 9th menu item to link to Explorer)

How to get flat black bars whenever changing color themes using SPB MEnu > Tools > Theme

1) Download the cab file below.
2) Copy to your device.
3) Using File Explorer (or the like) run the cab file on your device.
4) Go to SPB MEnu > Tools > Theme
5) Choose the color theme you like.

Upon doing this:
1) Your Today Screen wallpaper changes to the same background image used by this theme.
2) You have flat black bars.

If above method doesn't work for you, you can try importing the registry file attached below using any appropriate Registry tool such as RescoRegistry.

Sorry, I don't have a VGA device yet. But, I'm trying to save enough money in order to buy myself a VGA device. That's why I have a DONATE button in my signature. :p

I designed this with Mobile Shell 2.1.2 as that's what I'm using. But I don't see any reason why it shouldn't run on version 2.1

The only issues when using this theme on version 2.1 instead on 2.1.2:
1) No all day events on the calendar page.
2) Clicking on launcher icon brings up the MRU page instead of Main Launcher page.
3) Clicking on contacts icon brings up Contacts page 2 instead of page 1.

Very minor, but I think you can live with those. :)

BTW, I'm working on my Omnia skin. I'll post it soon. :)

Me,too. I tried all sorts of launchers and Today plu-ins, but always coming back to Mobile Shell. I prefer it's functionality.

There's no "weather tab", but the weather page can be accessed by clicking on the weather icon: within the analog clock or on the bottm-left of thedigital Now Screen.

Hi greatbal, another brilliant theme.

Halfway down this page (linked below) is a good look at the xperia icons :)

http://smape.com/en/reviews//Sony_Ericsson_XPERIA_X1-prev.html

Also watch the second video embedded - halfway through is a good shot of the clock panel.

On the whole I'd say you're already pretty spot on with the look of this theme! :)

Now... if you could just do the fish panel ;)

You don't need to have a tsk for the Today Screen. When you choose any of the color theme from SPB Menu > Tools > Theme, the today screen is automatically generated with the same background image (both portrait and landscape).

Re flat black bars, I used to have a WM5 device and flat black bars works.

raph90
1st September 2008, 04:49 PM
yes I know but on WM 5 when I make that, the taskbars are not realy black...
I must put them at 160 in the registre to have the more deep black
When you put another theme that the defaut windows theme, you can change in a real pure black with tdycheme
Put a color theme of shell is the same that a defaut windows theme and my bars config became a 160 black and I lose my pure black

P.S.: I hope so that you understand me...sorry for my english^^

P.S.: merci le spy pour avoir posté ce super skin sur AM ;)

Greatball nice theme. I tried it on Omnia 240x400 hoping it would at least show up but it does not start even without modification. Using MS 2.1.2 I would like to convert this for WQVGA. I know the conversions are in the qa_layout.dat file. Would you have any interest? I tried but it still would not start. Must be a error.

Bravo greatball I absolutely love this theme thank you:)

I have been trying to find alternative backgrounds but it’s been very difficult to find a background that really goes with this theme! In the end I settled with the default background however I found one that has less light illumination effect. IMHO this background looks better anyway I have attached the files if anyone wants to try it;)

First of all, excellent theme. Probably the ONLY theme I will use for a long time.

I don't know if this is a bug in the theme or something else:

Before I loaded the Xperia theme, running MS as original, after the phone goes into sleep mode, when I press any of the hard keys to awaken the phone, the phone for a split second goes to the today screen and then to the MS Now screen.
Since loading the new theme, when I press a hard key to awaken from sleep, the phone just goes to today screen and stays there. It no longer goes the MS Now screen.

Any advice on what may be the problem? I would like the phone to go to the MS Now screen after waking the phone (Nothing has changed except loading the theme, no new programs, cabs, etc... EXCEPT changing the background to MY XPERIA).

First of all, excellent theme. Probably the ONLY theme I will use for a long time.

I don't know if this is a bug in the theme or something else:

Go to SPB Menu > Settings > SPB Mobile Shell > [on the Now Screen Tab] Make sure that "Show the Now Screen when device wakes up" is ticked (checked).

Go to SPB Menu > Settings > SPB Mobile Shell > [on the Now Screen Tab] Make sure that "Show the Now Screen when device wakes up" is ticked (checked).

Double checked that option again, it was already 'checked', Toggled the check mark again, to make sure it wasn't a stuck command.
I have also changed to the default theme without any other background.
Problem still there.

What version of Mobile Shell do you have? I wrote this using version2.1.2, but I mentioned on my original post that this will work but with minor issues when used with MS2.1.

When in Calendar or Recently used pages, try gesturing left and right.You should be able to get to the Main Launcher page.

Great them from the Greatbal. Thanks so much. this should tide me over till the Xperia is released :-) As always there is a but ... I am not seeing any appointments being displayed on the calendar tab no matter what settings i choose (classic\professional) and also, when i use the analog clock (which is by far the best looking one) i can see the weather icon, but am unable to press it and open the weather page. Anyone else have these problems or know how to fix them ?

What do you have on your Today Screen (plugin)? Any particular app you're running that maybe interfering with Mobile Shell (autolock perhaps)?

Using the latest 2.1.2.
I uninstalled MS and am reloading everything. I DON'T think it's got anything to do with your theme. I am currently re-loading MS and your theme and it IS working properly so far. There is nothing WRONG with Greatbal's theme.

1) For calendar items to display, try going to SPB Menu > Settings > SPB Mobile Shell > [on Now Screen Tab] Choose Layout = Professional > then Click "Configure" button > Tick both boxes and set "Alarm" and "Calendar" to Auto. Click done then ok. See if you have the items on the Calendar page. Now you can go back to Analog screen using settings.

2) Hmmm... that's odd. What version of Mobile Shell are you running? You should use the latest version 2.1.2, otherwise this theme might have some issue on overlapping controls such as the analog clock and the weather icon. I don't have your problem on my device running version 2.1.2

Ho to add the Games and Running Apps (Active Tasks) menu items:

1) Download the cab file below.
2) Copy to your device.
3) Using File Explorer (or the like) run the cab file on your device.
4) Go to SPB Menu > Settings > Customize Menu > [Make sure "Running Apps" and/or "Games" are ticked (checked)]

Is there an icon for the running apps or just a blank area with Running Apps written? I only have a blank area with running apps written. I don't know if I should uninstall and re-install. Thanks, BOO

I don't see a problem with your layout. The screenshot you've posted is the layout you get if you select Professional now screen or the Classic now screen with a digital clock.

The layouts are described in post #28 from greatbal (copied below for your viewing pleasure)

1) For Analog Clock: Go to SPB Menu > Settings > SPB Mobile Shell > Now Screen Tab > Layout = Classic. Then Click on Configure Button. Choose Analog.

2) For Digital Clock: Go to SPB Menu > Settings > SPB Mobile Shell > Now Screen Tab > Layout = Classic. Then Click on Configure Button. Choose Digital.

2) For Digital Clock (alternate way): Go to SPB Menu > Settings > SPB Mobile Shell > Now Screen Tab > Layout = Professional.

I was going to ask for the same, something along the lines that match the Omnia theme

g00ndu

I designed this with Mobile Shell 2.1.2 as that's what I'm using. But I don't see any reason why it shouldn't run on version 2.1

The only issues when using this theme on version 2.1 instead on 2.1.2:
1) No all day events on the calendar page.
2) Clicking on launcher icon brings up the MRU page instead of Main Launcher page.
3) Clicking on contacts icon brings up Contacts page 2 instead of page 1.

Very minor, but I think you can live with those. :)

BTW, I'm working on my Omnia skin. I'll post it soon. :)
Greatbal,

Problem 2 and 3 can be solved.

Placement of your tabs is most crucial in SPB MS2.1. If tab5 is MRU and tab2 is Launcher. Make sure in your Layout Name= Default section, tab2 appears before tab5 if you want Launcher to be activated instead of MRU. Same concept for Speeddial.

See below for the sample:

<Plugin Class="Spb.LSP.Tab" Name="Tab1" ID="0">
<String Name="Form" Value="Subform"/>
<String Name="Dialog" Value="LockScreen"/>
<Int Name="IsDefault" Value="1"/>
<Int Name="Image" Value="4"/>
</Plugin>
<Plugin Class="Spb.LSP.Tab" Name="Tab4" ID="0">
<String Name="Form" Value="Subform"/>
<String Name="Dialog" Value="Kalendar"/>
<Int Name="Image" Value="4"/>
</Plugin>
<Plugin Class="Spb.LSP.Tab" Name="Tab2" ID="0">
<String Name="Form" Value="Subform"/>
<String Name="Dialog" Value="Launcher"/>
<Int Name="Image" Value="4"/>
<String Name="Data" Value="Spb.Data.Launcher"/>
</Plugin>
<Plugin Class="Spb.LSP.Tab" Name="Tab5" ID="0">
<String Name="Form" Value="Subform"/>
<String Name="Dialog" Value="MRU"/>
<Int Name="Image" Value="4"/>
<String Name="Data" Value="Spb.Data.Launcher"/>
</Plugin>
<Plugin Class="Spb.LSP.Tab" Name="Tab3" ID="0">
<String Name="Form" Value="Subform"/>
<String Name="Dialog" Value="SpeedDial1"/>
<Int Name="Image" Value="4"/>
<String Name="Data" Value="Spb.Data.CallLog"/>
</Plugin>
<Plugin Class="Spb.LSP.Tab" Name="Tab6" ID="0">
<String Name="Form" Value="Subform"/>
<String Name="Dialog" Value="SpeedDial2"/>
<Int Name="Image" Value="4"/>
<String Name="Data" Value="Spb.Data.CallLog"/>
</Plugin>
<Plugin Class="Spb.LSP.Tab" Name="Tab7" ID="0">
<String Name="Form" Value="Subform"/>
<String Name="Dialog" Value="SpeedDial3"/>
<Int Name="Image" Value="4"/>
<String Name="Data" Value="Spb.Data.CallLog"/>

I have been working on a skin and am using v2.1.2. It also seems to be cruicial as to placement of tab order, but it is the opposite of what you have stated for v2.1, so it seems that the order will depend on the version of Mobile Shell being used, and like greatbal, I use the current release of Mobile Shell to make a skin because that is what new users (and many previous users) will be using.

Yes, you can do that for version 2.1, but that would pose a problem if you use version 2.1.2. I'm using version 2.1.2 that's way I designed it to work on version 2.1.2. :D

Thanks Greatbal and mtkates for answering this. I understand that most users must have upgraded their SPB MS to version 2.1.2. However, there are some users especially those with square screen will not be able to run the latest version 2.1.2 as this version does not support RealVGA application. In other words, for square screen though it is 320x320, it is in 128dpi and effectively speaking it is only 240x240 at 96dpi.

RealVGA allows users to have the full screen 320x320 at 96dpi and it maximizes the screen size. I belong to this group. ;)

Anyway, I am sharing this with you guys because by rearranging the tab icons order, anyone can have various tabs as the 1st page.

P/S: And thanks for sharing your info on MS 2.1.2 about the tab order. I wouldn't know this since I cannot run this version under 96dpi mode. :)

For those using SPB Phone Suites, you can use the profile.dat attached to have Xperia-ish profile icons:

http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/1392/x1cu2.png http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/3538/x2iz2.png

How to use:
1) Download the attached zip file
2) Extract on your hard drive
3) Copy via activesync the profile.dat file to your device's \Program Files\SPB Phone Suites directory (overwriting the original). Please make a backup of your original profile.dat file in case you want torevert to the default one.

You could easily minimize Mobile Shell by gesturing down, i.e., swipe the screen downwards.

Start with this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=378367

You will find instructions on how to change backgrounds and so much more. You will also find the .dat file password there.

Have fun!

Okay, this is my first time trying this and I hope you do not think this is a stupid question but after you change the .dat files to .zip and alter the backgounds, how do you change them back to .dat files to add them to your phone's mobile shell programs file?

Thanks

How to add the Games and Running Apps (Active Tasks) menu items:

1) Download the cab file below.
2) Copy to your device.
3) Using File Explorer (or the like) run the cab file on your device.
4) Go to SPB Menu > Settings > Customize Menu > [Make sure "Running Apps" and/or "Games" are ticked (checked)]

ok i have an odd one here. After following the cab install and adjusting the settings, I have the label for running icons there, but no icon..

something simple i bet, but what? Gone through multiple reinstalls.

Thanks

How to install:
1) Download zip file attached.
2) Extract on your hard drive.
3) Copy all extracted .dat files to your device's \Program Files\Spb Mobile Shell directory.
4) Soft reset device.

Enjoy!

Hi greatbal,

firstly thanks the theme looks great here but I have a BIG problem!

I'm using spb phonesuite (today for the first time - im a winmo newbie :|) and i've followed your instructions exactly, but after the soft reset, when i choose the spb mobile shell panel, it loads the default image of it and then goes completely blank and leaves me with the windows start bar menu and two links at the bottom, but absolutely nothing else!! Can somebody PLEASEEE help me as I really want this theme??

Thanks in advance!!!

I remember a few months back somewhere in the SPB MS theme thread 420mac posted one of his theme with this background. (by the way where is 420mac? he's a good skinner)

Anyhow I modified his background slightly using ps, and found this background actually goes well with this theme:) what do you guys think? again if anyone wants to try I've attached the files.

Yes I have and to the "T" I have followed them.
I followed another post on getting ino the registery and looking at the icon itself, But the "running apps" icon is not listed in the registery, all others are.
It's really odd..My wifes phone has no issues, my phone is a turd..
I remember I did something once (installing one of your other themes or something of the sort) and it poofed away, but I can't duplicate the fix.

I guess the more inside questestion is,
"why does this happen in the first place"?

Like I said, I have the function and button, just no icon. Very wierd.

Thanks for response
**************************************UPDATE on running apps button.**********************

I have found the fix i found awhile back.
This theme attached, named 2 different ways is the same file twice, hopefully to dummy it up some.
I have no clue what the problem is with this theme and the others, but this theme will insert a "running apps" icon in the correct place and function properly.
Greatball, your a better man than me in taking the time to create some flashy skins so that we can enjoy our ppc's more.
I will leave this up to the rest of the experts to pick apart the issue and come up with a better solution.

Now, that's really "weird". But, I guess the cab file is not working properly on your system. Maybe your device is not allowing the cab file to write to your registry (due to permissions). Please try doing it manually using a registry editor. You can read the How-To thread in doing this.

EDIT: Please read my reply to your post on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2935441&postcount=471
