mda compact 3 to a pda

hi guys i have to say this is a great forum, just unlocked my mda compact 3 from t-mobile, great step by step guide for a noob.

my questions

1, can i remove the phone part (eg dialler contacts etc. ) of my mda so it is more like a pda.

2, i think i can back up my current device i thinhk i mean roms so if i ever want to go back i can, can someone confirm.

3, or can i install wm6 over the top of every thing to turn it into a pda for my satnav program (co-pilot live)
