View Full Version : [SKN] TouchFLO Skin for Pocket Player

Hi all,

I decided to try and make my very first skin ever and here it is, it's a skin for Conduits Pocket Player (http://www.conduits.com/products/player/):
Wired's TouchFLO Skin v1.01 (VGA Portrait only)

NOTE: Thanks to sfxc13 there is now a WVGA version available here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4561965&postcount=51)

Simply tap the center of the screen to switch between the various views:

Standard View >> Large Spectrum Analyser View >> Album Art View
http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/3856/wscreen01vl2sj6.jpg http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/6792/wscreen02ml9tz4.jpg
http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/2950/wscreen03bd4gd0.jpg http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/253/video02ad4.gif
NOTE: Recommended Vis settings: Disable Small Osciliscope, Enable Small Spectrum Analyser

The musical note icon on the bottom left will call up the 'Now Playing' screen whilst the settings (cog) icon will toggle the Equaliser on or off.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: Extract the PSZ file and copy it to where you have installed Pocket Player (e.g. "<storage>\Program Files\Pocket Player" or "<storage>\Program Files\Conduits\Pocket Player" if using an older version).

Enjoy!

Sorry folks, a bit of a bug slipped into the latest version which could cause Pocket Player or even your device to crash if you try to go into Options!

If you downloaded the file between 2:30PM and 5:30PM today, please download the updated version from the first post.

I'll try and be a bit more careful next time ;)

Cheers

Yes, just go to Menu >> More >> Options >> Advanced (tab)
From there, just untick 'Show Notification Icon' (under Interface)

If you figure out how to disable the volume icon, let us know!

Hi wired69,
many many thanks for this great skin! I've been using it on my Samsung Omnia for about two weeks now, and its absolutely gorgeous! Btw, on full album cover view I can use the sensor touchpad (or whatever it's called :) to advance to the next track - i just sweep right.
Only slight bug i found (after searching long and hard): sometimes when I go back from full cover view to normal view, the buttons are not visible anymore. They do work and appear when I click on them, though. Don't know what causes this, I guess it has to do with general lag on Omnia. Doesn't bother me, either ;)
Cheers, all!

This does not happen when used on the Touch Diamond, it may have something to do with the fact that I only designed this skin with a VGA resolution in mind (the Omnia is half the resolution of the Diamond). I must say I'm quite impressed that Pocket Player can downscale the skin!

I will have a look if there is anything I can tweak to get it working a bit better for you. Post a screenshot of the problem if you can.

Cheers.

Hi wired69,
wow, I actually did't think I would get a reply for my post, since the thread is fairly old! I really only wanted to say thank you, because I really like the skin - it integrates nicely with manila2d which I'm using on my Omnia.
As for screenshots, I will look into that, haven't installed the utility yet...
But as you mentioned, maybe downsizing the skin to the proper resolution would solve the problem. I really don't want to bother you though, as the skin is already fully functional as is!
If I get the screenshots, I will post again!
Cheers

Great! But unfortunately it looks a bit dodgy on my Touch HD. Obviously a resolution problem :-( Any pointers on how I can adjust this to support WVGA resolution?

Thank you!

Unfortunately, I am unable to test this until next year when I get a chance to borrow a friend's HD. It is possible it is a problem with Pocket Player itself, how do other VGA skins look on your HD? Do they upscale correctly? If not, I would recommend contacting Conduits support, they are normally quite helpful. They probably haven't had a chance to test devices with resolutions higher than VGA so you may have issues upscaling lower res skins.

Love this theme for Pocket player, only problem I seem to have I set the skin to this one, then each time I close the player then re-open it, it sets itself to the default skin each time.

What am I doing wrong ?

Thanks for your reply. I got a default WVGA skin (called "wmp_WPC_player_480x800") from Conduits but it doesn't look half as good as yours. The functionality is there... the buttons react the right way (play, pause, etc.) but the graphics look 'chunky'.

I'd be happy to test WVGA adjustments for you ;-)

Nice skin but how do you get it to stick? By that I mean I apply the skin and it looks great. But when I stop and restart Pocket Player the default skin returns.

Hi,

I had the same problem with the skin not "sticking".
Solved this by removing the default skin from the pocketplayer directory.
I keep a backup of default skin on my pc, just in case - hope I won't need it,
because this skin is just beautiful!!!

Thanks for the tip! I've had this problem ever since upgrading from PP 3.7 to 4.0.

any future updates on skin? how did you make the skin I am really impressed by the way... hope there are more in your sleeves:)

I was planning a minor update (more of alternate version really) which has a smaller area for the vis and very large fonts for the track title/album to make it more 'car friendly'.

I have no skinning experience, this was my first attempt! I don't have any skills at all, just patience! All I did was copy the default skin to my PC, downloaded a tool off the Conduits website to preview it on my PC and manually modified each graphic element and the script file which is very time consuming and laborious (I am a bit of perfectionist so I needed to get everything pixel perfect). I also modified the Spectrum Analyser vis colours so it matches the TouchFlo colour scheme.

I would try and do a higher res skin but I'm a bit short on free time at the moment, should be fairly easy to modify my skin to work at WVGA if someone else wants to give it a go, you can rename any skin file from .psz to .zip and unpack it. Modify it to your liking, pack up the files with WinZip or WinRar and then rename it back .psz

I recommend playing around with the default VGA skin from the install directory (default_vga.psz) as this has all the features available and the script is well commented.

If you have any luck, post your results here as a few people have asked for this!

I've been playing around and can't quite figure it out, but I'd love to have the album, artist, genre lists much larger so I can see and tap them easier in the car.

the player skins look cool but I really don't interface with them. I use the full screen album art and hide the buttons. Once the album is selected I just use the hard buttons to pause, skip songs etc. The only time I really interact with the touch screen is choosing the band/ album etc. and that screen is to small for the car. And none of the skins I've ever seen do anything with it

If you can point me in the right direction on where to modify that that would be great!

These screens aren't controlled by the skin, they're part of the main interface. The only option available is to set the font used to Normal, Semibold or Bold by clicking on Browse then scrolling to the bottom, select Settings and then it's under General. Unfortunately, there are no font size options available. I recommend you send an email to Conduits Support and suggest this is an enhancement.

Sorry, I really don't have the time at the moment to make an HD/WVGA skin and I do not have access to an HD anymore. As mentioned in a previous post, you should try making it yourself. I have no skinning experience, I just followed the instructions here: http://www.conduits.com/products/player/documentation.asp?13

You can use a Skin preview tool in the Pocket Player SDK available here:
http://www.conduits.com/products/player/sdk_download.asp

You probably just need to double the size of all the images in my skin and modify the script accordingly (probably just doubling the values for size parameters).

Awesome skin, lovin it!

I have a question and want to see if anyone else is seeing this nuisance.

I've tried different skins, including yours, with my Pocketplayer 4.0, and I've tried various ROMs that have m2d enabled. I'm even seeing this with Shifu's latest WM6.5 ROM with m2d.

In the "launcher" widget from manilla 2d customizer, I have pocket player as one of the quick launch icons. Occassionally, if the program is already running in memory, I'll select the pull down located at the top right of the phone that shows you all the running apps. In these cases, it won't show pocket player running (even though I know it is), and if I re-select the pocket player launcher icon, it does take me back to pocket player. However, even though it says "pocket player" at the top of the window and the "browse" and "menu" options appear at the bottom, the HTC home launcher widget still shows!

When this happens, I don't see the album art in pocket player or its background, but rather, HTC home.

This is pretty annoying. Anyone else seeing this? I don't *think* it's skin related cause like I said, I tried this skin, the iPhone skin from mylostblog, and various m2d roms.

Thanks.

So I have tried to make a WVGA skin but don't have access to a wvga device yet (eta tomorrow evening). I have attached it here if anybody want to open it up and let me know how much the buttons etc. need to be moved.

For some reason I can't get the skin preview tool to do anything. Either it is not vista compatible or I am doing something wrong. Anybody used it before and can give a quick tutorial?

I had a quick look and your modified skin does open in the skin preview tool. Here are the steps:

- Run ConduitsSkinMaker.exe
- Paste the path to the unpacked files from the skin in the top box (not the location of the Zip or PSZ file, you must unpack all the files to a folder e.g. C:\MySkin and paste or type in this path)
- Click the Reload button

I have not tried this in Vista but if you are having problems, try right clicking ConduitsSkinMaker.exe and select Properties then go to the tab with the Compatibility options and change it to Windows XP (also select Disable Visual Themes or whatever it is called in Vista if you are using Aero).

I had forgotten how bad this tool is until today! You will see what I mean if you get it to work (try clicking the Play button, all the other buttons which are currently missing suddenly appear in the wrong place)! Good luck, if you get the skin working I will add a link to your post on the front page of this thread :)

Thanks for the mini-tutorial. I kept writing in the path to individual files or the packed file. Got it running now and see what you mean about how bad it is. I will play around with it so more when my phone arrives in a couple hours. Hopefully have something functional to upload in the next day or two.

I have updated the first post with a link to your version. Out of curiousity, what was the 'visual adjustment' you made? Could you post a screenshot?

The reason why it is not working for you is because you are using the wrong player! :D

Hi all,

Is there anyway that I can

1. Replace the volume slider to a "+" and "-" buttons for volume control

2. Add a button for instant mute?

for this skin?

Any good souls out there can help me do it or guide me on how to edit?

Thanks in advance. Cheers!!! :D
