This may seem a bit silly, but:
What do you say when you're referring to your Pocket PC?
- 'PPC', 'PDA' or 'XDA' are pretty awkward.
- 'Smartphone' isn't technically accurate (and who would actually say that?).
- 'Mobile (phone)' doesn't really live up to what these things can do.
- Would you actually use the model types ("Whoops, my Kaiser is ringing")?
Or maybe your PPC even has a name?
Let's hear it!

PS: Mine has a name. :)

defcomg,
You Call it by its model name [...] they nomaly would say i left my tytn in the car or i have kaiser or some stole my s710
Would you? Even to people who don't know much about PPCs? Don't you think that would sound distinctly odd? "I left my Elf in the car." - Seriously??
I don't think anyone with a 'standard' mobile phone would say "I left my N81 / W910i / ... in the car."
u should have posted in off topic
It doesn't get more general than General, and this is related to the phones after all.
My condolences for your cousin - sorry to hear that.

I call it "Telefon" (phone in German).
Everything else would cast that ugly geek aura I usually avoid :)

With your impressive device history I'd never have guessed, but the point is taken! :D

Mine has a name, yes.
But if I posted it on here, the parts that actually got through the word filter would get me banned! :p

Mine is labelled Mobile Disco.
But that follows the theme of all my gadgets. My laptop is "Disco", my media PC is Media Disco - which leaves the phone to be Mobile Disco.
Only problem with that is if the gf says "Do you have Disco?" and means the laptop, but hey.

Mine is just called Phone as in " My Phone is ringing " I just call it a phone. When people see it and what it can do it is obvious that it is much more then just a phone, and they are amazed at what a "Phone" can do compared to their regular Cell Phones. What else would you call it when it it ringing. My Kaizer is ringing sound's OK I guess, My Elf is ringing is just silly, My PPC is ringing - sounds odd. My XDA is ringing - People will be thinking "What?" If you give it an actualy name like " Sarah is ringing" well then - You need a girlfriend - or boyfriend, I guess, depending on what you are into.:D

My phone is called Lyle. I started giving my gadgets names since my laptop :). I was texting people about my 'lappy', but T9 made that 'larry', so i named my laptop Larry. Then my new PC Leroy, and now my Touch Pro Lyle. I dont say that out loud amongst people i barely know, but around friends and family, its fun to say it. They just roll their eyes :).
(Oh, and in reply to the post above, I have a girlfriend, and she thinks its funny. She's named her laptop Lassy :))

The name thing started when I got Voice Command and Navigon, my first navigation software. Suddenly my phone was talking to me, and the more it was talking to me, the more I felt the urge to shout back at it now and then. If you use navigation you know what I mean.
Now - you can't shout insults at a brick neutral phone very well, so it needed personality. And as there's a distinctive female voice both in Voice Command and Navigon, it got a female name. Not a very nice one though, I still need to shout at it in the car.
No I can't TURN LEFT HERE you &%##§$%\, I'm on a six-lane motorway!!

Aside from calling it "my phone," I sometimes refer to it as my "mega-phone." I like the play on words... afterall, within a few seconds of me using it, most folks are well aware that it's not a cell phone in the traditional sense.
