[Skin] Spb Mobile Shell 2.1 SKINs - Fast Switch and customization

I am searching how to do that, but didn't find it yet, also for my internetbrowser Opera for example.
So how do I edit the menu? :confused:

Go to settings/ spb mobile shell settings/ advanced/ menu/ games(or either folder you want to add a program link to)
Hold your stylus on the folder games and add link.

Installed the update from 2.6 to 2.7

New bits are on there, but it won't go to the programs page, either by button or swipe

All other tabs work fine

Soft reset - no change

Tried an uninstall - then reinstall 2.6 and 2.5
The no calender on clock from 2.7 is still present
Still cannot access the program page

It seems I've completely messed up the installation and now its in a right mess
It wouldn't do a complete uninstall

Help - What should I do ?


Got it working again by reinstalling SPB Mobile Shell, which looked really old fashioned and PANTS until I got my favourite themes from your great tool running again

The GPRS idea for the switcher menu seems like a great idea - something like the No Data app I downloaded ages ago but built into your shell

why does this app use so much ram??? i've been using mobile shell for a year... i always start at 20-21mb of ram after a reset and then drop to 17-18 throughout the day, but that's because of heavy use with other programs. If I just open the original mobile shell and then leave the device alone for a few hours... i'd only lose 1mb.
BUT after using this skin app, my ram drops to 14 after just opening mobile shell, clicking on the bottom icons, closing mobile shell... and then letting my device sit for a little while. so that's 5-6mb of lost ram without even running an actual program. i've had to reset my device more in one day than i usually do in a week. so yeah, is this memory usage/leak a permanent flaw? or is there a fix planned that could possibly reduce it.
Don't get me wrong, i love the work - i think it looks absolutely beautiful and enhances the look and feel of mobile shell immensely. In fact, once i have the touch pro and don't have to worry about RAM, i will want to use this with mobile shell...

Try to open all the Spb pages (included the weather main page) before perform the test. The amount of the Spb memory increases if you pass from a page to another because more images are loaded into memory.

Thanks for the update Mike... this fixed the SPB Phone Suite icon for me, and I love the new little lights that tell me what's on.

One problem, though, is the Wireless Manager that opens from the Carrier/Operator button at the top. I get the full list (BT on, BT off, WIFI on, WIFI off, Phone On, Phone Off), but no matter what I select, the phone vibrates a quick burst but nothing happens. I can select the Bluetooth Off, but it doesn't turn it off.

I am using an HTC Touch...

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately i had to uninstall your great app yesterday because the RAM usage was interfering with the productivity of my phone.
I don't see what good the test will do though? I already know how much the skins reduce my allotment of RAM... 5-6mbs easily with your skins after just opening mobile shell once then closing... but that's on top of what the mobile shell program already uses. Like I said, i went from having 18mb throughout the day (heavy program use) for a year with the original MS to instantly only having 14mb at first start with your skins (no program use). After using my phone like i normally do, it would drop even lower. I even chose the simplest options (1 contact page, just the launch page, and one clock). My phone's RAM dipped into single digits for the first time ever after a few hours. I couldn't even run skyfire, which I use daily. It's just too high of a deficit when you have a Mogul... I'll try using your app again once I get the touch pro and have over a hundred mb of RAM to spare.
It's just a shame I won't be able to use your skins until then...

I can not get the part Comm Manager skin.

I have installed it right, I sighted the 3 radio.
When I click on the window 'on / of' radio opens
I click on BT ON -> I have the vibration of the order confirmation, but BT will not. Same for all function on / off '.
As against, if I change the on / off via the comm manager htc, it works and color LEDs are well

Sadly I think I cannot go on with this amazing program

It's too much for my Orbit to handle !

I keep having to soft reset and notice many more problems - probabaly due to low memory - there is not that much to start with on an Orbit

I know that is NOT the fault of this program, just the result of using skins

I'll keep watching to see how things go

I'm currently on 2.7 - can you confirm the full unistall process. If I understand correctly I run the uninstall script to remove 2.7, then run a copy of the uninstall script to remove 2.6

Of course if anyone has any suggstions to allow me to improve matters I would love to keep using this

Thanks a lot for the great product. I am using it on my Axim and everything works fine except the Wireless leds...actually just the BT led.
Dell does not show the BT status in HKLM","System\State\Hardware","bluetooth"
reg. key, but instead in
"HKLM","Software\WIDCOMM\BTConfig\General","StackMode" (with '0' - off and '1' - on)
I was able to redirect your scripts to the right reg. key so it will tirn it off and on, but the led for BT does not operate.
Could you , please, let me know if this can be fixed.
Another thing is:
In Programs/ Settings folder of MS there is a button 'Customize Menu' which usually brings you to 'Spb menu' settings page. However in your skins this button does not work.

Yeah i agree! Would love to have an option to have just the 9 icons to reduce the "clutter" on the screen. For me, the simpler the better!

Other requests/suggestions for improvement to Mikibest:
(1) I like the Kyro/Luna Facet (because of the simplicity of it) but with any launcher button used, there's this "disruption" on the graphics at launcher butttons (don't know how to describe it well) - maybe because the facet background's fading shade effect is conflicting with the opaque launcher buttons (5 buttons)? Any possible correction for this?
(2) as for the programs MRU page, maybe in the next release, have an option to choose button background and shape? maybe start with white (similar to what you did for HTC (White and purple)?
(3) as for contacts, can we add button for video call (aside from mobile) or is it a limitation of SPB?
(4) more white and green backgrounds please (simple graphics).

If u need to change or add in/remove the items in Games, use the standard SPB MS settings change under Settings, and go to the ADVANCE tab. Click on MENU and u see a tree view of Groups. Go to the Games group, highlight it and use the Menu on the bottom bar to add links to individual games.

For Internet Group, I have problems adding Opera in it also. Seems that it doesn't add Opera to it eventhough the box is checked.

The omnia version 2.1.2 which is around for VGA devices from Greatball has a 9 page mainmenu screen. I also noticed the icons in his pack are sharper and I think they are smaller, not sure about this. But I think the icons on the mainmenu screen in your omnia theme are blown up a little. I compared your qp_menu_btn file to the one off Greatball (someone converted it to wqvga). It seems you use the same icons and only the first two files are different. I copied Greatballs file and overwrote yours and the icons look sharper and smaller but the sound icon in top taskbar was to big and converted it back again to yours. Are the icons 'fuzzy' on purpose?

why do i keep gettin the error msg "mortscript cannot find spb ms v. 2.1.2" everytime i try to run the scripts?

ive got it installed..and nothing

ive tried the "script fix" that was posted a few pages back and i cant even find some of the menu's listed.

when i go thru my registry editor i find:

HKEY Current User / Software / SPB Software House / and after that all that comes up is / Calculator....

what am i missing here?

any help is greatly appreciated

Hi i have modified the layout black 1 clock no calendar to don't have the (calendar) bar under clock but can you say me how to center the clock?
I tryed to modify value in the Now screen.xml from 1clockno cal folder and i can't do it i'm bad :confused:

I take it from Mikomi OSX theme
For the moment only Launcher icon and tabs image
Put the folder in Storage card and it will add automatically
If you can add it for the next release Mikibest

Do you have the programs in the right place? I would try going back to "square one;" uninstall everything you've got, and reinstall per the instructions on Mikibest's website.

I added links in /programs/settings/spb Mobile shell/advanced/menu/my menu in the belief that 'my menu' related to the favorites link on the home screen.

It is not selectable after adding favorite links to 'my menu' whereas before it just bought up an empty items page when selected.

What have i done wrong.

Asked and answered -

Go to /Programs/Settings/Customize menu - Make sure all items are checked including 'Navigation'. Select ok and favorites link should work fine to /my menu.

I read this post thinking that this would fix the ssue with the "my menu" button on the now screen doing nothing. However, when I click Customize menu...nothing happens either!!

EDIT : Just relased that you have to have the bluetooth on/off menu thingy ticked also to get the my menu feature working.

Another interesting thing I've noticed, possibly related to this app, possibly not.

Since I've had 2.7 installed I've had a problem with my alarms. Several times I've experienced the following , the alarm goes off but the dialogue box doesn't appear so I can't turn the alarm off!!..no option but to reset the phone.

Is it possible to keep top and bottom WM bars visible, Spb mobile shell as background?

Another question: I don't know, whether this is related to the skin oder Mobile Shell but I would like to have the birthdays stored with the contacts (and not stored in the calender) to be shown on the now screen.

Is this possible?

Today-screen tools like TodayAgenda do this, if it helps as an explanation what I mean...

Put the folder in Storage card and it will add automatically

I am trying to change the background on one of the Kyro themes; I repacked the qp_bkg_now file with a new Separator2 RGB .bmp image in this folder: SpbMobileShellSkins\QVGA\Backgrounds\Black\Tecno.

Somehow, it still manages to pull up the old image, even though it is gone from the bkg file.

What did I do wrong, or what more should I do? Do I need to edit the theme's mortscript?

Maybe make a donation first and then you can start asking for any personal request. As you can see. Everyone apreciates that ICON, we use it. If you dont want it, he has to make you a special copy of the program. You are here making demands and you want him to listen to you.

WOW that sound like a great idea, I will now be able to save my fav skins and reload them whenever I want. I have never worked out how many combinations you have in this app but it must run into 1000+ so saving the best ones gota be good. :D

PS: Just tried out "Throttle Launcher 0.9.4kpre" and can report MS is still the No1 app for skinning especially with all the different skins your app gives us.
TL was a bit slow and very buggy. I hope MS can somehow emulate the scrolling lower task bar in the next version as it looks cool but that the only thing TL has going for it as my Touch crashed to many times for it to be usable.

The launcher page with 9 icons and 6 MRU on the top is the standard program page for the WQVGA (omnia) version. Install my skins!

20MB free is already low for a VGA device!!
The VGA resolution requires more and more free memory respect to the QVGA to run applications; if ,with the QVGA we have 15MB, with VGA we should have 4 times this memory (60MB).

The standard Spb mobile shell don't load a big weather icon and weather descriptions; you can reduce the amount of memory dropping these 2 images from the mainweather.xml file.
Maybe for the next release i can include a low memory layout for VGA

Sorry, there is a bug on the Install script. Please download again the update and reinstall over the 3.0 (is not a problem).

Hi i have modified the layout black 1 clock no calendar to don't have the (calendar) bar under clock but can you say me how to center the clock?
I tryed to modify value in the Now screen.xml from 1clockno cal folder and i can't do it i'm bad :confused:

It's 'My Menu' folder. You can put your favorite programs there and have a quick access to them.

The star is related to 'My Menu', a short cut to a page of your fav programs. U have to manually linked the programs to it using the standard SPB Mobile settings setup.

Is there a possibility of exposing the top and bottom bars so SPB runs "like" a today plugin rather than skinning over the top? The issues are, notification and alarms cannot be 'Dismissed', 'Snoozed', 'deleted' etc without disabling SPB Watcher then returning to today. Custom backgrounds would also be great and these changes could bring back many M2D converters + donators. Just a thought/suggestion, if this can be done I'd definately use your skins and donate!

i'm assuming that this is a skin related issue as i can access the My Menu option if i place it high enough in the menu hierarchy.

You MUST install the SPB Mobile shell 2.1.2 (no older version).
Take the english version..... then you can change language with the skin's installation script.

Wireless - link is blank not named but has to be ticked

scorpion66 I ran your nav>active tasks patch and you're right it went mental.... (icons, wireless indicators moved etc.) and locks up the phone too. Tried changing ticks in list to adjust things back, but ended up uninstalling your cab. Nice try, I'll have another go if you do a version 2 .... ;)

This has been an issue right from the first version and is fixable if you are willing to muck about with the config menu to change menus order.
These icon problems are to do with the way the menus are set up and if you dont get the exact order right then all sorts of weird stuff happens. It seems what works on one machine dont work on another as if you see above threads my fix did not work.

MikiBest do you have a fix for these issues as it seems lots of people have it and my fix does not work for everyone. Maybe u could put it in the instructions. I personaly think the problem now is so many people are using this with lots of different devices and this makes it impossible to have a universal fix as each device may need a different order or set up. :confused:

Great to hear the fix has worked for you and anubis. As I said if my fix dont work try moving the menus around a bit as you will find a fix. Once you do write it down as if you lose it you will take ages to find it again.

I have to agree with every one else you keep hitting the mark with your improvements.

I can only think of one area left that I would like to have the option to choose the items that are displayed.

The TOP bar - I like large easy to read signal strength and battery level gauges
- I like a row of MRU on the Now screen for quick access to pinned programs. (see attached)

Not saying they are must haves, just thinking aloud.

Also, installed v3.0 and unfortunately got 2 issues with it:
1. calendar entries are missing when in landscape mode for now screen with clock+calendar.
2. for saved themes, when changing between dark and light, text color doesn't change so sometimes black font is still retained after shifting to dark theme. reassigning the layout again will revert back the correct font color...

There is no application associated with "Install_QVGA" Run the application first then open this file from within the application.

I had the same problem with my Sprint Touch. Try pressing the Mortsript.exe that is a few files below the Install.exe first. Then press the install.exe. Seemed to work for me.

Thanks again Miki. I like 3.1 with the low memory layout. I use MemMaid to track the memory footprint of each loaded services. With the normal memory layout, the more things u turn on in the SPB Skins setup (like 2 clocks, programs + MRU), SPB MS bloats up to >5MB. Then the stardard WM6 services like gwes, filesys, device also gets bloated up over time. With the low memory layout, these system files remain low in memory usage, and SPB MS is <5MB.

Overall, I like this 3.1 because of the low memory layout option. Did miss the big weather icon page though.

Is it possible to have a MRU within the Program page? Have a row will do.

After playing with multiple skins the "old way", finally decided to try version 3.1. Amazing ! Two questions -

The "star" icon on the first screen seems to open a blank menu page. I assume this is somehow related to the blank menu item in the customization settings, which seems to be shortcut for the various radio settings. How do you get this to work? UPDATE - NEVERMIND - I figured out that the "star" is the My Menu link, which was empty in my case, and also figured how to open radio manager ...

Second, it would be awesome if there were Desktop Themes associated with each of the shell themes, and the theme switching script could automatically install them. UPDATE - Still think this idea would be great ...

Nonetheless, I don't think I'll be playing with any more themes for quite some time - this suite/app is all I should need.

I have another suggestion for your next update.

I notice that some people are having problems with the weather tab which you have addressed with the low memory layout.

I myself never use the weather tab so I have changed it to an MRU tab (would like a new tab icon to represent MRU).

So my suggestion for others who don't have a need for the weather tab would be to have the following option.

1 Program+ 1 MRU + No Weather.

My current Now and MRU pages are attached.

What do I have to do to install http://www.imarche.net/omnia/index.php these changeable skins?

Can someone give me a step by step please?

I've downloaded SpbMobileShell2.1.2-WQVGA-Skins_Release3.1-UPDATE_2.zip and tried to run "Install_[W][Q]VGA.mscr" but I keep getting an unknown application error.

Anyone able to help please?

Is not possible, because SPB let you to select the displayed plugins and their position but not change the behaviour. Sorry (turn the question to the Spb Software House, maybe with the next SPB MS release will be possible)

I have another suggestion for your next update.

I notice that some people are having problems with the weather tab which you have addressed with the low memory layout.

I myself never use the weather tab so I have changed it to an MRU tab (would like a new tab icon to represent MRU).

So my suggestion for others who don't have a need for the weather tab would be to have the following option.

1 Program+ 1 MRU + No Weather.

My current Now and MRU pages are attached.

I'm still with my problem with the dclock...
I use the Mikibest tool so the Dclock which appears on now screen is in the qa_dclock.dat and in the majority of themes which are create by others members the dclock is in qp_dclock_modern.dat
When i put the qp_dclock_modern.dat in spb the clock appear on now screen but also on calendar page and weather page...and on now screen there is too the old clock (qa_dclock.dat)

I tryed to change the name of qp_dclock_modern.dat by qa_dclock.dat but nothing appear when i put in spb

I tryed to take the index.xml from an original qa_dclock.dat from Mikibest theme and put in with the graphics of qp_dclock_modern and rename the new compress file (with password and all names of files are in xml) and the clock doesn't appears correctly, i think is a problem of value but i understand anything to xml...

So what could be the way? :(

I finally got around to trying this skin switcher program but it doesnt do what i thought it did. I thought i would be able to download a theme and have this switch it out. It does not. However it does let you customize a preset format of 5 pages, now, weather, calender, programs, contacts. This is cool if you need all of those pages. Maybe I just dont know how to use it right?

There is a mistake in the .dat file; i've corrected Yamurlu with Yagmurlu.
Corrections will be available from the next release.

If you don't have enought memory, use the low memory option when you set the layout.

1) Top star icon: you see this image because you have added / removed / unchecked some items in the Spb Menu; these are the correct settings:

7 [x] Games
8 [x] Navigation
9 [x] -must be empty- (it is the Wireless Manager)

- extends the layout for the SQUARE 240x240 and 320x320 resolutions
- corrects some translation errors
- simplifies the layout option choose, removing the not selectable items

Hey I read thru a few 100 pages.. then I found your link. installed and WWWAAAlah!!!

I do have a problem tho.. probably just me, but under the games icon..and navigation icon.. its empty. To get to my games.. I've gotta goto programs icon/games to see them. Now the navigation icon is empty too, but I have no idea what I got as far as navigation goes.. I got Windows Live and Google maps.. thats it.

I have the Verizon xv6800... do I have internal GPS? Is it free/off/not set up?

Other than that.. I love the looks of all the themes and skins and colors, Oh My. LOL

Go to settings/ spb mobile shell settings/ advanced/ menu/ games(or either folder you want to add a program link to)
Hold your stylus on the folder games and add link.

the digital clock is not white with pink, but white with black... cant change it into pink coz the only options are white, black, transparant and some other option that makes the clock black... How can i get the white clock with the pinkish numbers?

Hi;

This tool looks absolutely great; but it seems I can't extract the ZIP file (the 3.1.1 VGA version). I have downloaded it to my computer, and tried unzipping to my device (HTC Touch Diamond), using the built-in ZIP program in explorer (Vista). I have also tried to unzip to catalogs on my PC.
Then i tried WinZip 12.0. The result is the same: After unzipping approx. 2/3 of the files, the unzip programs are crashing.
What am I doing wrong????? :confused:

Search for My Menu in this thread as there are some detailed posts which will walk you through the order the menu items need to be in before they will work. If the order is not right then clicking on that star will not activate your "My Menu".

Great work on the new 3.1 and 3.1.1!!!

I have some problems:
1. When I try to choose the kyro daisy I get a black background. I had some problem with it in a previous version and it doesn't work since. I have tried to reinstall all the package but it still wont work.

2. In regular themes (installed not through your fast switching but just copied) if you change the spb theme color it installed the theme background also as the today screen background. Yours do not for some reason.

All in all nothing major just bugging me...:)

Also I join the request for installing other themes backgrounds from other developers. It would make your amazing app a KILLER!
