I know we can select our own background for the Lifestyle Home screen, but would it not be more logical to have this selected automatically and be "themed" with the background (ie the same) for the rest of the screens? If it is not too much work in the interim, could your backgrounds be made available for us to load ourselves for the Lifestyle Home screens?

Looks excellent. Just a couple of questions about this new version-

1. Will your professional layout ever replace the MS one so we can do the up/down gesture to go between yours and the lifestyle layout? If it is not possible, no worries. I just like your professional home and would like to be able to go to the lifestyle home by flicking up instead of going to the carousel, swiping over then choosing lifestyle.

2. Is that part of why the digital clock on the lifestyle page will not use your version (glass, led, modern digits, etc) and only the analog clock will change?

3. I can't remember if this was asked/answered before (I tried looking at the last few pages so sorry if I missed it) - on the programs tab, can it go to the last used tab or can we choose for it to go to the Favorites/MRU page by default instead? Once again, if not then no worries. Just thought I'd check.

Except the picture above, all other pictures of SKINs (including in Official website) relate to MS version 2. Would anybody please upload a few pics of the customization made with this for MS 3 to see if it is worth installing?

Also, does installing this wipes previous customizations and new installed widgets (like the "pro")? If so, restoring MS backup settings restores what there was previously?

I'm trying to update my skins and I'm getting an error message. "Cannot open file: it does not appear to be a valid archive" I'm trying to use the WQVGA version.

While I'm posting, I was having troubles integrating the pro version clock widgets with changeskins. Everytime I'd switch from portrait to landscape I would get a scrambled "edit profile" screen. When I remove the Pro widgets it worked fine again.

Firstly, a HUGE thank you for this v4.1 MikiBest!!!
I like the transparent bars, the fact that you can now add items in the various folders etc.

A huge request from me. Would you be able to make all the folders display in grid format? Is it also possible to make all the bottom bars for all the different pages/screens transparent, or at least to colour them the same as the theme selected? I find the dull grey, well, rather dull..lol. When I use a black theme like Kyro HTC, then the bottom bar looks dull on professional and custom screens.

Finally, would it also be possible to add HTC and Vista buttons for the bottom bar? Presently there is only a choice between Diamond, iPhone and Omnia. I know that this would be a huge favour from you.

I close spb shell ,replace (rewrite)the basefile in spb skins folder in the phone and set the skin again.

Now the text is white again in battery,alarm and appointment...

Mobile shell doesn't support the seconds hand for analog clocks. They sell the Spb Time to enhance the clock features.

Set in SPB Mobile Shell: Settings - SPB Mobile Shell - System - Laguage to for example English. Reset.
Then change it back to Dutch. Reset. And Dutch is back.

Just a few problems/bugs I have found:

1. The connectivity bars (Bluetooth, wifi etc) above the clock on custom pro screen do not work.
2. Weather does not update from weather screen. It connects to internet but then nothing happens. I have to go to the Spb Weather app to update.
3. The Voicemail widget does not dial voicemail. I get message that number is incorrect?

Perhaps you could have a look at this.

aaah, now I see!....i just changed to an Kyro set......there the text is white.....with an Luna it is black.......this was not with the version 4.0.......
the problem is: my background on the lifstyle screen is not very good, for the black text....and the background on the lifstyle screen has nothing to do with the skin set, I think..why this connection?...is this changeable?...

You can't set the colour of fonts etc. What he is trying to say is that for all dark (Kyra) skins, you will automatically get white fonts, and with all light (Luna) skins, you will get mostly black fonts automatically. This is obviously done like this to contrast fonts correctly with the selected skin.

If you have selected a Luna(light) skin, and you use a dark wallpaper for your lifestyle screen, then chances are you won't see some of the fonts on digital clock, calendar, battery percentage etc. etc. If, however, you use a Kyra(dark) skin with a dark wallpaper on your lifestyle screen, then you will see that all your fonts wil be white and clearly legible.

Interestingly, you can see white fonts with a light wallpaper too, as long as it is not white.

I trust that this sheds some light on your question.

Yes, I am afraid that you will always have the weather icon using a white font, and with a Luna skin, all other fonts will be black. With the calendar, Luna skins will display the day of the week in black and the dates in white fonts. I am not sure if this can be changed by MikiBest.

I presume I need to go ahead and select one of the themes listed.

When i click on a favourite contact and try to change their picture nothing happens.

I have to actually go into edit mode for the contact to make any changes.

I have a simple question. Now that you are working on MS3, does that mean that development for MS2 stopped? I am using the SQ320 version for 2.1.5 and, although I am already loving it to bits, there are some alignment issues.
I hope to be able to make some screen shots soon to show them.

As I promised, some screen shots of issues with version 3.2 on a square 320 screen. There are some small alignment problems, which I tried to indicate in the screen shots (forgive my terrible gimp-skills:)):

the wireless status indicator is not aligned with the operator (see upper left and right image)
there is no wireless indicator on the contacts pages (bottom two images). Is that intentional?
the divider between multiple appointments on the now screen is too far to the right (upper left image)
the divider on the calendar screen is OK (upper right image), but in my opinion it would be nice if the appointments are a bit further to the right.
when opening a contact (lower right image), the text of the top button is a bit too far up (or the button is too low, of course), and it looks like the name should be a bit lower and to the right
another issue, of which I forgot to take a screen shot, is that most of the icons for the today plug-in of MS are messed up. It looks like they are too small. Could this be because my Treo pro is set to 128 DPI, and I need the SQ240 icons? If so, which file needs to be replaced?


I hope you still have some time to work on the version for MS2.

All transparent clocks displays 9:00 instead of 09:00. The fact is that Spb Mobile Shell support 2 kinds of digital clocks: the modern digital clock and the standard digital clock. Old digital clocks are standard but they are not supported into the Lifestyle section. So I've converted them from the standard type to the modern type. The modern types don't show the zero digit when the hour is less than 10. To overcome this limitation I've introduced the zero on the clock face; this is overwrited by the "1" (and "2" - if use 24 hours instead of AM/PM) when the hour is great than 9.
This tricks is not possible for trasparent clocks as you can imagine.

- enter into the Spb Mobile Shell "Advanced" options as you want add a new program item and check the Spb Menu tree. You should see EXACTLY these 11 items, all checked:
0 [x] Organizer
1 [x] Internet
2 [x] Multimedia
3 [x] Tools
4 [x] Programs
5 Settings
6 [x] Messages
7 [x] Games
8 [x] Navigation
9 [x] -must be empty- (Wireless Manager)
10 [x] My Menu
(The folder names should be translated to your language)

If you miss one of them you have to add it manually to the registry key:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Spb Software House 2\Spb Mobile Shell\Menu\Root
(the numbers on the left are the Index values to set )

Sometimes running Install***.mscr can solve this problem

Excellent program! I've been enjoying all of the options a great deal.

One issue with the most recent release - I uninstalled MS 3, uninstalled your MS skins program, then installed MS 3.1 beta, then downloaded and installed a fresh copy of your program from your site. The 'show today' widget worked great until I installed the new version of MS skins, but has now disappeared. It shows as an option in the 'add widget' menu, but won't display on the lifestyle screen. Also, there does not appear to be any option for the professional digital clock on the lifestyle screen.

Any ideas? It almost seems that I have the original version rather than an updated one.

Otherwise the software rocks!

This happens sometimes depending on the device speed, but I don't know why. I suggest this work around:

- open the Install_WQVGA.mscr with a text editor (you can use also the Mobile Word) and insert some instructions like Message("Hello") after and before the lines SpbRegKey= ........ SkinRegKey=.....
- save it and run again; the message Hello should appairs a number of times corresponding of your inserted lines, but the install process should continue with success.

You have to Install the 4.1 version of skins and then apply the 4.1.2 update

Is it possible to use the same menu icons (I like BASE or COBALT) for the Lifestyle screen? If I add the menu icon (for example, add widget>application>internet>internet folder), the icon is still the same as before using ChangeSkin. I tried changing the IMAGE value in the registry but don't know the values to change it to. Thanks a lot!

1. rename it as qa_layouts.zip
2. open with winzip using the usual password (you can find it in this forum)
3. edit the MenuBar*.xml with Notepad and remove the four lines:

<String Name="ImageName" Value="Background"/>
<String Name="ImageNameC" Value="BackgroundC"/>
</Plugin>

where you found them.
4. save the files and update them inside the .zip

Well a fantastic combination. Just some suggestions.
1. The integrated contact manager does not support grouping of contacts.
2. The analog clock of Sbp v3.0 and Change Skin 4.1 does not support second's hand so the last must erase the second hand of the backgroud of the clocks.
2. The Change Skin must have or a way to preview the selections that the user made o give us a document where the user can see the picture of e.g. the icons that he/she choose.

Problem solved:
My HTC had MortScript 4.2 on it. The SaveTheme.mscr script did not work with that. When ik use Mortscript 4.1 everything is OK :)

I have installed the last Update and now you can choose the digi-clock
so it should be the same in professional-screen and in the lifestyle screen.
When I choose the Lamborghini clock then I have in the professional screen
silver digits and in the lifestyle-screen golden clocks. So, there is a different and I would like to get the silver digits in the lifestyle-screen too.
Where can I change this?

2. I have a background picture in all professional-screens and in the caroussel and it looks great. If i take the same picture for the lifestyle-screen-background then it looks very very big, so I can only see a part of the picture. If I reconfigure the file for lifestyle-screen to a smaller one, there is no change - it looks very big and I only see a part of it.
Any idea?

You have to Install the 4.1 version of skins and then apply the 4.1.2 update

Perhaps you can answer me the following two question:
1.
I have installed the last Update and now you can choose the digi-clock
so it should be the same in professional-screen and in the lifestyle screen.
When I choose the Lamborghini clock then I have in the professional screen
silver digits and in the lifestyle-screen golden clocks. So, there is a different and I would like to get the silver digits in the lifestyle-screen too.
Where can I change this?

2. I have a background picture in all professional-screens and in the caroussel and it looks great. If i take the same picture for the lifestyle-screen-background then it looks very very big, so I can only see a part of the picture. If I reconfigure the file for lifestyle-screen to a smaller one, there is no change - it looks very big and I only see a part of it.
Any idea?

I found a problem for the Play Station buttons; I've corrected it but you should download the 4.1.2 file again, extract the qp_menu_btn.dat from folder \SpbMobileShellSkins\Commons\Q\Buttons\Play Station 3 and overwrite it on your phone.

Problem solved:
My HTC had MortScript 4.2 on it. The SaveTheme.mscr script did not work with that. When ik use Mortscript 4.1 everything is OK :)

the SaveTheme.mscr script contain the reserved word "Repeat" as variable name. For Mortscript 4.1 this isn't a reserved word and works fine; if you use MortScript 4.2 just edit the script and raplace "Repeat" with "DoRepeat" for example.

Hi Miki,

Before installing Changeskin, under SPB, when you'd press the menu button (button to the left on the bottom bar) it would go to Favorites and Recently Used programs....but now Changeskin takes me to the menu on the right (organizer, internet, multimedia, tools...etc).

Can you tell me how to make it go directly to Favorites instead of that other Menu cause it takes an extra click to go to Favorites? Thanks.

I can use my own custom background if i choose Luna but if I choose Kyro I can only get a solid black background and not the skin I chosen. I have tried with many backgrounds :(

Hopefully someone can help. I've got an i910 omnia with MS3. Installed changeskin 4.1 and everything worked great and was able to scroll left & right to switch to 2nd professional page and lifestyle layout. Installed skin pack and lost the ability to switch screens from prof. layout. Updated to 4.1.2 changeskin, still no luck. Also I don't have the extra carousel window to select wallpapers, I was really hoping to get that part working as well. Any ideas how to get those items back?

Hello MikiBest, you have created an excellent add-on for ms3. Here is what I think it could easily be added to this excellent software:

- to allow user to change the buttons on the bottom bar (to pick from the predefined lists of buttons). Example, now you have 3 buttons on it: Spb menu, Weather and favourite contacts. Some users might consider Launcher to be very important button fro quick access.

- to add/remove pages on the carousel. example, checkbox for Time page, weahter page, contacts page, etc.

- option to choose number of lifestyle pages

- option to show/hide top start bar.

- to allow bottom/up bars to be transparent (dont know how difficult this one will be).

Hi MikiBest I've got a couple of minor problems, now using your latest skins 4.1.3 and Mobile Shell Version 3.0.1 Build 6488.

1. I can save my created themes but when I go to load my theme it loads up everything but the background stays exactly the same as it previously was. Everything else changes like the icons etc but not the background.

2. As I stated earlier I cannot create a background that will work with KYRO, it just stays black. If I create a background using LUNA it works perfect.

I have mortscript 4.2 installed and my device is a HTC Topaz

im using the wm7 black and trying to change the vista icon(program launcher) by going in the fenettre.dat and editing bouton_windows.bmp im saving as a 16 bit 565 bmp and rezipping but after soft reset the icon disappears but still functional why cant i see the icon? what am i doing wrong..please help or point me in the right direction..thankss

I'm using MS 2.15 with the 3.2 release of these excellent skins on an Omnia.

Sometimes tapping the icons on the Programs page doesn't work. The icons open up a bit, then close back down. Once they stop working only a soft reset restores full functioning. I haven't been able to find any particular action that seems to cause the problem.

Anybody else seen this?

Just installed the 3.0.1 official update to SPB Mobile Shell on my HTC Touch HD and now having trouble getting the correct skins version to work with it.

Installed 4.1, then the 4.2 update over the top with option to "replace all files" and then v.3 again with option to "replace all files" but 4.3 generate a pop up error that it cannot access Vp_menu_btn.dat and the sking program doesn't run.

Searched for help on Vp_menu_btn.dat but no help found related to this issue.

So uninstalled all and repeated process stopping after version 4.2.

Is 4.3 matched to the official 3.0.1 release or only to Beta 3?

Hi, i installed the latest change skin and all works well except for the 4th Status Icon (ie. far right). It is disable. All other icons (email, SMS and phone) icons works OK. Previous v3.2 was OK.

Hi all,
I am using SpbMobileShell3.0- and "Skin Changer's" WVGA-Skins_Release4.1.3_Update
Is it possbile to use the Skin Changer's Weather Skins in SPB Weather.
The new skins show fine in SPB Mobile Shell 3 - when you click on the weather icon it takes you to SPB Weather - however it uses the SPB Weather skin and not the one made by Skin Changer.
Have tried to find a fix for this issue through most searches but can't find anything on this.
Anyone can help me please??

I honestly dont remember seeing this thread before, I found out about changeskin in another SPB MS3 Thread and was going straight to MIKI's website and PM him (I actually found it after he included the link in PM).

Anyway, I am very surprised that this thread doesnt see more activity than it does. This is such a great tool, and very stable, not to mention that you can install it on an SD or CF card with out overwriting your main SPB file. The customization process is so easy to use and though he has multiple backgrounds to choose from, you can easily add your own if you like. Maybe most people are using Lifestyle Widgets and Modification. But if you havent tried Mikis, you should, it creates some really slick layouts and is actually alot of fun to use. Of course this is my personal opinion, and yes, I think MSKIP is a genius too!

How do I hide the taskbar in the Lifestyle Panel? I have installed ToggleStart which allows me to hide the Taskbar, but then I get a black bar at the bottom of my screen. I have tried editing the menubackgrnd files, changeing the "white" to black, and even editing the menutab file. It did nothing. Look at my screenshots below.
1st one is without Togglestart
2nd One is with Togglestart and xml edits to place the widgets lower on the menubar area.

The latest update actually includes a theme generator which allows you to use your own wallpaper in BMP format 565. Just search this thread and you will find what you need.

Hi! I had the same problem and solved reading caerfully...
In the web page of the software (http://www.imarche.net/omnia/fullpacks.php#nogo) it sais:

"To uninstall the skins you need the Original dat files"

So you must download, extract and place this files http://www.imarche.net/omnia/download/SpbMobileShell3.5-Original.zip on the same folder you have th spb mobile change skin. The you run the unistall .mrc and that's it!

Everything Works Great except... The Call History Font.
It Changes when I change Theme, then reverts back to Black.

I think thats normal and the same for everyone hey do you know how to make the *.bmp 16bpp i have try a lot with photoshop and others soft but i cant make it work with the newbackground script, allways tell me "wrong image file: select a 16bit bmp file with the correct resolution 240x320" i have try a lot but i cant pass from there.

do yoy know any app or something i can do?

hi micky, i modified the qa layout common black and white. I added a transparent menu bar for all panels, and i fixed the date on sms 3d panel. the 3d panel shows now the date.

Hi, I have the sam problem..what to do?? I have spb mobile shell 3.5.3., and now trying to instal spb mobile shell skins VGA-3.0.??Help pleas :/

I have tried to uninstall using the instructions on the Changeskin site and here and am still recieving this error:

RegDeleteKey: Registry
Key mustn't be empty!

Line:
RegDeleteKey ("HKLM"
SkinRegKey, True, True )

After you download and unzip the Original files where do you put them and which uninstall do you use. The uninstall that is with the Original files or the one with the program. Because I have run both uninstalls and both give me the same error.

I have HTC TyTnII. I download the program Version 4.5, but after install the Lifestyle Layout dosen't change to the select theme (Kyro or Luna). What can i do??????
Help Please.

P.S. I'm using SPB Mobile Shell 3.5.3, i've already do the update to 4.5.1 and 4.5.3 and still the same, all screen appear with the theme, but Lifestyle Layout dosent.

Hi, i have Change Skins 4.5.3 with Mobile Shell 3.5.3 on my Treo Pro and status icons dont change at all, everything else semms to be working ok... Any ideas? THX
