UPDATE
The newest 610-series Windows Mobile 6.1 ROMs may be found HERE (http://matrixmen.free.fr/pocket/ipaq/roms/). Many thanks to jpmatrix972 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=1305082) for collecting these ROMs and hosting them for the community.
If you've never installed a new ROM before, I'd recommend first downloading and installing the new 0.89 radio (http://rapidshare.com/files/196503270/RUU_1.8.0_081208_MP_M089_WWE.rar), in order to improve signal acquisition and overall radio performance. Backup ALL your data on the device before you run this! If you have any problems with this process, read more about radio problems and installation in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=479288). (A big thank-you to hipppo (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=1399453) for posting these files!)
Afterwards, go here (http://matrixmen.free.fr/pocket/ipaq/roms/614c_WM6.1_20270_rev1.2/), and download the flash.dio file (which is the ROM itself). For information on how to install the ROM, please read my second post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2630013&postcount=2), below.
Once you're finished installing the new ROM, you should install this file (http://rapidshare.com/files/196512113/CallWaitingFix_RequiresRadioFW089.CAB) in order to fix a bug with call waiting. After that, you're all done! Enjoy WM 6.1.
(If you miss having a proper D-pad on your iPAQ, there is a work-around program here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=435026). And if you need to get your hardware keyboard working with Opera Mobile 9.5, look here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485039).)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everything below is older material that I don't personally recommend.
OLDER POSTS:
Hi guys! I got a request to upload the 600-series ROMs from PDAclan.com, which is a great site but it's all in Chinese. I'll be posting the ROMs here with their descriptions. Check back often, I'll be adding more as I finish their translations. The descriptions below aren't my words, but those of the ROM creators. I'll put any notes [like this]; anything written in English goes in quotes "like this".
To see the original posts, head over here (http://pdaclan.com/thread-17658-1-1.html).
Please read post #2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2630013&postcount=2) for flashing instructions and a disclaimer.
If there's no link yet, just be patient and I'll post it shortly.

HP612_WM6.1_OS 5.2.20737 ROM: Simplified Chinese - Elegant Black - Clean: by NGSEE (http://rapidshare.com/files/144531117/HP612_WM6.1_OS_5.2.20737__31616___20307___38597___ 40657___32431___20928_ROM.rar.html)
Recently, the base ROM has been updated very often, many thanks to acwan for providing the transplanted base.
Here's acwan's explanation of the new base:
Supposedly the previous 20721 release, with the new AKU 1.4 base, was a "beta" version. This one is AKU 1.4 "basic". In terms of speed it feels about the same as 20721. Its software compatibility is pretty good, under this base you should be able to run software that is usually restricted to specific devices. The bundled software is about the same as the previous Clean 20721 Simplified Chinese release.

HP612_WM6.1_OS 5.2.20721 ROM: Simplified Chinese - Elegant Black - Clean: by NGSEE (http://rapidshare.com/files/144541807/HP612_WM6.1_OS_5.2.20721__31616___20307___38597___ 40657___32431___20928_ROM.rar.html)
Here's the Simplified Chinese version! This is from the AKU 1.4 base ROM, to which I've added "touch" capability, which is also called screen swipe capability. It means that where you previously used the stylus to tap up or down, left or right, now you can instead use your fingers to swipe the screen - you'll see what I mean when you try it yourself. [I think he means he's included the HTC TouchFlo scrolling.] Let's see (it's been a while since I updated)... comparing this release to the previous one (20273), where I updated to the official 1.01.04 OEM, and updated the XIP & "boot", but the software was the same as before. In contrast, this time I didn't really feel like including the official "Streaming Player" or the dialer "Band Switch," friends that need them can go download the first three attachments in dxvolution's thread and install them themselves. (http://www.pdaclan.com/thread-17615-1-1.html). [I've downloaded these three files and attached them below.] There's basically no problems with using this ROM. Much like the English version released yesterday, if you don't have any recently used programs in the Start Menu, the cursor will turn white when you move it to that space. I don't know if this is a bug or a new feature of AKU 1.4.

HP612_WM6.1_OS 5.2.20721 ROM: English - Elegant Black - Clean: by NGSEE (http://rapidshare.com/files/144547637/8__26376_28__26085___65293___25968___30721___37096 ___33853___65293_HP612_WM6.1_OS_5.2.20721__33521__ .html)
This one is using the newest 20721 base (AKU 1.4), the XIP and SYS were all transplanted from the Samsung I-908 Hong Kong edition English ROM, served up hot and fresh. As for software, there isn't any difference from the past clean releases, I've kept using the newest official HP 1.01.04 OEM. This time I've even updated the "boot", I can't feel any difference, friends that want to try something new can give it a shot.
PS: There's a small bug, if the list of recently opened programs is empty there will be a white bar, expect a fix. Eh, I figure there aren't that many people who have that space empty anyway.

HP612_WM6.1_OS 5.2.20296+20275 ROM: English - Elegant Black - Clean: by kkwy (http://rapidshare.com/files/144549336/flash.rar.html)
The XIP has been transplanted from the Ri Da [don't know if this is a name or a brand] 20296 base, the OEM part has been updated to the newest official HP English ROM 1.01.04, and the SYS has been transferred from the "Diamond" 20275 and NGSEE's 20273 English - Elegant Black - Improved ROM. As for the software, it's about the same as the last release, MMS should be fixed now.
Standard page pool is 12 MB.

Just like the 20273 in Simplified Chinese, the XIP is ported from Xiao Qiao's 20273 base, while the OEM has been updated to HP's new official ROM 1.01.04. After flashing the OS version will appear as 1.01.04. The SYS was ported by someone on xda-devs (I've forgotten their ID, oops...)
ROM Specs:
1. OEM is the newest official one; in addition, the streaming player, battery manager, and HP Shortcut have all been upgraded.
2. Battery level is displayed as a percentage.
3. Used a Diamond skin for WMP.
4. The ROM has been made as clean as possible; software includes the official standard dialer, standard English keyboard as well as Samsung fullscreen handwriting 2.0 [for Chinese input], Office applications and Live Messenger, a small reset tool, a Chinese dialer [?], and a new version of USBtoPC.
5. Improved appearance of the system icons, which were taken from xda-devs
6. Standard page pool is set at 16 mb.
Many thanks to PDAclan's niezher for testing this ROM!
Not much else to say

HP612C_WM6.1_OS 5.2.20275 + 20273 ROM: Simplified Chinese - Elegant Black - Clean: by kkwy (http://rapidshare.com/files/144570468/flash.rar.html)
These past few days I've been researching the HP 612c's XIP and OS's "DIY" [Do-it-yourself?]
I've grabbed the newest IPAQ 1.01.04 ROM, and upgraded its XIP to version 20275
Then I grabbed NGSEE's HP612_WM6.1_OS 5.2.20273 Simplified Chinese - Elegant Black - Clean ROM and took out the OS part, the OS's OEM section I used is the updated IPAQ 1.01.04 one.
After I finished it, I've used it until now without problems.

Recently I haven't had anything fun to do, I was itching to make a 20273 ROM. I've been using it and I figure it's pretty good, friends who want to try something new can give it a go.
It's a pretty clean ROM, I've minimized the cooked-in programs. Software included is pretty much the same as the 20273 English version. [See above.] I've removed the HP theme, now the standard theme is WM6.1 green, standard page pool is 16 MB, Simplified Chinese MMS 4.2.8.10, and that's about all there is to it.

To flash these ROMs:
0) Backup your data! This will erase ALL files you have stored on the device.
1) If the ROM is compressed, extract the file flash.dio from the archive (e.g., zip or rar file) using the password "israpda.com" for the newer ROMs, or "PDAclan.com" for the older ones (note that the "PDA" part is capitalized).
2) Copy the file flash.dio to an micro sd card formatted to FAT 16. Do NOT use an SDHC card, the bootloader can't read it!
3) Insert the card into your 610/612/614. While it's still off, hold down the voice record (left side) and mute (top) buttons.
4) Still holding the buttons, hit the power button. Hold them until you see the bootloader start up.
5) Sit back and relax! I'd recommend that you don't touch anything until it's totally finished and the screen comes up telling you to calibrate the touchscreen. Enjoy your new ROM!
In the unlikely event that something goes wrong and your device is stuck on the blue HP startup screen, see here for a fix (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459123).
As usual, you use this at your own risk. Let me say that again: ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO YOUR DEVICE AFTER FLASHING THESE ROMS IS YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY. I haven't tried all of these so I can't comment on how they're working, but the Chinese guys think they're the bee's knees. (That is, they're really good.)

Hi
Can I use this ROM HP612_WM6.1_OS 5.2.20721 ROM: English - Elegant Black - Clean: by NGSEE on my HP Ipaq 614c ?
And what does it mean "Clean" ? What exactly was deleted from original ROM?
Thanks.
PS Now have ROM WM 6.1 for HP IPAQ 614c CE English OS 5.2.19965 (Build 19965.1.2.3) Ver 1.3 (yevg001)

I wasn't sure, but somebody over at PDAclan asked the same question. Anyway, yeah, these ROMs will work on any of the 600s (610c, 614c, etc.)
I think these are "clean" in that there's nothing added to them, the only programs are those that come from the stock HP ROM.

yes, this ROM has chinese leftovers and not only in calculator. I found them also in voicecommander (when starting voice something say in chinese :D), in WM6.1Storage, Sim Manager, ClearType
Voicecommander totally unusable, all in hieroglyphs
Also when opening textfile
And when device was just flashed date was in chinese also.
To sum up, i can say that it is fast ROM, faster than WM6.1 HP IPAQ 614c CE English OS 5.2.19965 (Build 19965.1.2.3) Ver 1.3 (yevg001), but it needs some fixes, improvements for english users. Flash it only for tests.
NOT RECOMMENDED
PS Which benchmarks you want i test?

Um, that was a question, right? There seems to be a couple of programs in Chinese for all of these, but if it says "English," the OS and all major programs will be in English.
If you want a french Rom buy a 614c with a french rom
Even better: if you want a French ROM, then become a ROM chef! We could sure use one for the iPAQ 600s.

Hi all,
I've flashed my 612 with "HP612_WM6.1_OS 5.2.20721 ROM: English - Elegant Black - Clean: by NGSEE" yesterday.
1st impression: applications definitely load faster! Battery-life have to wait and see.
However, there were a few things I need to change:
1. Date was in Chinese. Need to change to English.
2. The only text input options are the default English keyboard and a Chinese one. I had to manually enter the registry entries to enable back the Letter Recognizer, Block Recognizer and the Transcriber. I managed to change the text label of the Keyboard to English as well.
3. The default calculator has an expiry date. I had to download a 3rd party calculator and set it as the default one in the registry.
4. The left softkey on the today screen is set to Call History. Have to change to my favorite Messages through the registry.
One main grouse I have is that I can no longer enter SMS by using the hardware keypad anymore! :( When I press the keys, only numbers will appear. Anyone has any idea how to get back that function?? I'm used to enter text through the keypad.... Please help!!

To enable/disable XT9, edit the following registry keys:
Under: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e001 0409\
Edit "Ime File" = "\\windows\\eT9.dll" and "Layout Text" = "eT9 IME" to enable XT9.
Edit "Ime File" = "\\windows\\compime.dll" and "Layout Text"="COMP IME" to disable XT9.
I'm including the .REG files below.

Thanks for replying. :)
I've read that in other forums as well. The problem is that the file \windows\eT9.dll doesn't even exist. I checked the spb backup image I created before the upgrade and it's not there as well. Therefore I believe there should be another dll file it should be pointing to.
My guess is one of the dll files in \windows\programs\tegic\et9. Btw, this ROM doesn't have anything in the \windows\programs\tegic\et9 folder. So I restored those files from the previous image.
Can anyone one who is still on the original ROM please advise what is your registry entry for HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e001 0409\?

ok. I can more or less confirm that I'm missing 2 files: \windows\eT9ime.dll and \windows\eT9SIP.dll.
Any kind souls can kindly copy out and upload them here? The catch is that the files probably resides on the ROM because normal file explorer don't show them. I know Resco Explorer can show files on the ROM.
Thanks in advance! :)

I'd recommend getting Google Maps straight from Google; you'll know you're getting the most recent version. This is especially important since they just added a few new features, such a being able to look at Street View from your phone, and walking directions. Go here (http://www.google.com/mobile/default/maps/index.html) from your PC to send an SMS link or go here (http://m.google.com/maps) from your mobile to download.

I've found a reasonably good workaround solution. :) I've installed HTC Touch Diamond keyboard from there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=392197. It's fantastic! Even better than the hardware keypad I think cos I have fat fingers and always press the wrong buttons.
It didn't work initially as the default input was set to the Chinese IME. I had to change the following registry keys to:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload]
"Default"="e0010409"
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload\1]
"Default"="e0010409"
Both were set to e0010804. I've attached the registry key for those who wants to use this. :)

Thanks very much for translating the various WM 6.1 links for us.
Do the source sites have any information about installing the VoIP components to allow Internet Calling to work with WM 6.1? It would be great to use this phone to connect to my SIP server but the functionality seems to have been removed from the ROM.
Thanks in advance,
Ian.

Yes but I do have problems with receiving files over bluetooth.
I was thinking about clean clean ENG roms 5.2.20737 or higher.
Thinking about upgrading only if the new one is considerably faster. This 5.2.20270 ROM in other hand works perfectly.

1. Sprite Backup current settings.
2. Download current rom if you dont have it.
3. Flash with new rom.
4. If something goes wrong flash back old rom and restore Sprite Backup.

I flashed this ROM to my 612C
HP612_WM6.1_OS 5.2.20721 ROM: English - Elegant Black - Clean: by NGSEE
Good things:
1. It is much faster than the original ROM (WM 6.0). It is more smooth on all applications.
2. The screen also can lower the brightness automatically to save power during idle for a while (playing games), in a call or charging/sync.
3. Showing the SIP is very fast.
4. and many......
However, there are some issue:
1. The most critical problem, it cannot answer the incoming call during call waiting. The device hangs if I try to answer the incoming call duing call waiting. I only can answer if the original call is end.
2. The WIFI is sometimes absence when I switch on the device. It happens seldom but the WIFI is present again after reboot.
3. WIFI cannot sometimes switch on/off . It also happens seldom. After switch on WIFI, the blue LED didn't flash but the screen shows the status is other than "OFF". On other case, it takes more than 10 seconds to switch off. I almost reset the device to resolve it.
4. ActiveSync is always started automatically. I didn't connect the USB for charging or data sync. It is also started even after force close.
Anyone has such issue?

Hi all,
tested the new version 1.5 from Yevg001 - works nearly flawless. Everything is working perfectly AND dimensions faster :) - also with the 1.4 version.
The only difficulty that I had/have, was/is with the HP BT HID keyboard. I cannot install the keyboard driver that comes with it/can be downloaded on the hp page, neither on the 1.4 ROM nor on the new 1.5 version.
It is not a reason to switch back to 6.0 but it would be nice to get it going.
Yevg001: what BT stack comes with the original 6.0 ROM and which one is in your ROM? Have you tried to get the BT HID keyboard working - if yes - can you please tell what you did - thanks!

Hi!
The new Yevg001s rom is very fast, even faster than the 1.4 version.
There are no extra programs included beside basic HP configuration apps.
But I encountered the same problem as with the old one, because I can not receive files over bluetooth. (sending files works fine, will test receiving with some other devices)
I also experienced battery drain after first day, but I don not know if it is rom related. (will post some updates if I acualy have a bad battery)
Some software related issue maybe because of VITO Audio Notes Touch v1.02 (avtorecord calls), after hard reset the first call takes 5s more to connect and before makeing the fist cal out you can not answer the firs call in. (same issue with previous version)
Please post some feedback if you have related problems.

Start Activesync.
Start bottom right menu.
Start configure server.
Type anything you want. One letter is enough.
Next.
Type 1.1.1.1
Next.
Type user name, password, domain you want. One letter is enough.
Next.
Choose data you want to synchronize.
Bottom left finish.
Now you can start in the activesync menu the scheduling option that was grey before.
Choose manually/manually.
You are ready.

It helps with prevent auto start of ActiveSync, but then I can't use ActiveSync for connection to Internet. After I delete this server connection settings, my Internet connection from iPAQ via ActiveSync start work and autostart of ActiveSync returns back...
I don't see difference of battery life if activesync is running or not. May be difference is too small.

Hello everyone.
It's my first post.
Here are some answers to people's thoughts on this thread:
1) Yes, you can flash to yevg001 ROMs and then back to the hp ROM from the hp website as often as you like. Flashing from an SD card (not SDHC) has worked reliably several times on my three 614c phones, and flashing using the hp software also works fine (it's much slower because it loads the ROM down a USB cable).
2) The big difference between the yevg001 ROM and the hp ROM is that the hp ROM contains an update to the device firmware, to v0.88 (the latest version). This is of interest if you still have firmware v0.77 (the previous and originally released version). The yevg001 ROMs do not affect your firmware version.
3) If you apply the hp ROM, you cannot get back to v0.77 firmware - I don't think the hp installer will downgrade you, even if you have an old hp ROM image.
4) Why might you want to downgrade to v0.77 device firmware? Because v0.88, while better in numerous ways, has one critical defect: it does not properly support call waiting. When a second call is received (and you hear the beeps in your ear), the active call is affected in that the person you are talking to cannot hear you - and usually hangs up because he/she things you have lost the line. It's very annoying. Other than this, the firmware is better and more stable, due to various minor bug fixes. Fewer missed calls, fewer crashes.
5) Ok, putting aside device firmware and thinking of software... the latest yevg001 ROM is based on hp software image 1.01.04, the latest image at time of writing. yevg001 has also added a few little software applets into the image, but you don't need to use any of these. Obviously, you cannot uninstall them as they are in the ROM, but they also therefore don't take up any usable space.
6) The touchFLO interface is optional. You can easily deactivate it. It looks quite pretty but I have to say I don't like it, so I've deactivated it just by unchecking it in Today settings.
7) The yevg001 WM 6.1 build (I'm using his v1.6) is very good. I have only noticed one major problem with it. The phone is faster than ever before (and I've tried a lot of ROMs). It is quite stable - a couple of crashes but not noticeably more than the hp ROM. It is entirely in English (with the exception that Yevgeny has added in Russian T9 support - not much use without Russian character set). English T9 works as normal.
8) I have also noticed improved battery life. With the latest hp 1.01.04 WM6.0 ROM, I usually get through four fully charged batteries in 24 hours. With the yevg001 v1.6 WM 6.1 ROM, I only get through three. Yes, I'm quite a heavy user but this is a good improvement.
9) The major problem I mentioned in point 7, which won't affect everyone, is that yevg001's ROM does not allow concurrent voice and data usage on a 3G or HSDPA network. How bad is that? Not all 3G phones support this and it is one of the best features of the 614c... My guess is that yevg001 does not even realise this because there is no (or nearly no) 3G in Russia - at least there wasn't last time I was in Moscow in April/May. Basically, if you have any data connection active at the time you place or receive a call, the phone just abruptly drops the data connection. It re-establishes it fine after your call, but no concurrent usage. **If any Russian forum user is reading this, please could you post to yevg001 and ask him if he can address this?**
10) Other experiences based on my regular usage:
a) Bluetooth works fine, neither better nor worse than the standard HP build. I use several BT headsets for calls and also listen to music using A2DP. The A2DP connection seems more stable under WM6.1. In general on the 614c the BT sound level is too low, it does seems a bit lower still with the yevg001 ROM but it was a problem already.
b) Wi-fi works fine, no problems at all with b or g networks.
c) The browser seems to have been slightly improved under WM6.1.
d) The threaded SMS is fantastic! And better than the iphone too because it allows you to delete and to forward individual messages within the thread.
e) I use tomtom navigator 6.3 (western europe) a lot. It works well.
f) Getting a GPS fix can take more than five minutes from cold. If you've used it before on the same day, it's usually less than a minute. I have always found that the 614c is slower to get a fix than the old 6915 which I believe many 614c users upgraded from.
g) Google Maps also works really well, with GPS, and using HSDPA the 614c is fast enough to keep up with your position on a zoomed-in satellite photo while travelling in a car at 30mph (no I wasn't driving!).
h) The media player is ok, I do wish it would read the album artwork out of the mp3 metadata, but that's a slightly off topic observation.
i) The camera is shockingly slow. I use it rarely. The autofocus works quite well.
j) I've had no problems with lots of 8GB SDHC cards.
k) Battery life battery life battery life. The Achilles heel of the 614c. See point 8 above.
m) Activesync seems to work more quickly and more reliably under the WM6.1 ROM than previously.
n) Voice Commander is rubbish.
Hope all this is interesting! Let me know what you think.
Cheers,
hipppo

1) Unrar the file flash.dio using pw "PDAclan.com" (note that the "PDA" part is capitalized)
are the 3 cab's the unrared stuff of the 29th release?

6.1 is faster, but very similar to 6.0. For ROM 1.5 I recommend to change (increase) pagepool size to prevent delays during receiving incomming call. I have this version and I don't have problem.
Version 1.4 REV2 is newer ROM based on older windows build, and was said more stable , but 1.5 is stable too and more fingers friendly...

Thanks to all who posted with their tips, experiences, problems & solutions.
I had been stuck with an Arabic ROM from March 31, 2008, so HP's battery patch of April or RUU in July wouldn't run as it asked for WWE ROM to be installed.
Initially tried HP612_WM6.1_OS 5.2.20721 ROM: English - Elegant Black - Clean: by NGSEE but had problems connecting to my provider both on 3G & 2G, could be a SIM issue, didn't try for long. Then tried Yevg's OS 5.2.20757 (Build 20757.1.4.0) Ver 1.5 without any issues. It seem's pretty fast and the new features and benefits as already documented by hippoo are impressive.
I'm not sure if there's a change in the battery life, would try to give it a few charging cycles to confirm normal/extensive usage stats.
Once again, thanks to all who posted on this informative forum & thread.

Dear all,
After I update my HP 612c from http://matrixmen.free.fr/pocket/ipaq/roms/HP612_WM6.1_OS_5.2.20757/ it is the best ROM I've ever seen.
Previous I had HP RW6828, the Unofficial ROM is never same as the original.
But on my HP 612c, HP612_WM6.1_OS_5.2.20757 is Unofficial ROM same as with the original HP.
Very good...
I wonder with Yevg the Rusian...
Salute for him....

I thought that the latest ROM from YevG001 was actually:
OS 5.2.20757 (Build 20757.1.4.0) Ver 1.5
Post 15 on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455840&page=2
Is 20757 not more up to date/more recent than 20270?
I am finding it hard to work out which ROM is best for me.
I have a 614c and live in the UK so want it in English with English XT9.
I know about the new Radio ROM 0.89 which I will get, and also about editing the Pagepool to be 16mb.
But which Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM is the most up to date, and fastest/most stable out of the different ones available?
Are YevG001s Russian/English versions better than the Chinese/English versions also posted here?
Please answer, I want a fast, stable up to date ROM that won't ruin my battery life or cause it to crash,
Thanks,
Dazzer :)

What is all the stuff about "m2d Manila 2D"? Does it make it run better or just look different?
I really just want a WM 6.1 ROM that is fast, stable and not a drain on the battery, this sounds like it's got 'fancy'/extra stuff built in?
Would that not have an effect on how it runs? Or is it really a good improvement to make it better?
I'm not bothered about it looking any different from my WM6 homescreen really, as I'm used to that, but with the improvements of WM 6.1.
I won't be flashing the ROM for a few weeks, as I'm trying out some new software and things and if they cause anything to go wrong it won't matter, as I can just hard reset. But once I've flashed it with all the updates and WM6.1, I don't want to change it for a while, whether it's because the ROM is bad or because another update comes along.
Hopefully by then I'll be able to make my decision on which ROM I actually want then :)

Manila 2d (or M2D) is the custom interface HTC installed on their more recent devices. It replaces the standard home screen and gives you links to your pictures, contacts, and the internet. It probably won't have any effect on your battery, but will take up a little more memory. M2D looks something like the picture below:
http://insertpics.com/img/4d19afca19754760b7414e41ceee6e5b/manila2d_fixed.jpg
A lot of people like it, I don't use it myself, I prefer ThrottleLauncher. If you want a ROM that's cleaner (i.e., less stuff added), go for the 1.4 ver 1.2 WITHOUT M2D.

Thanks for that, it does explain the Manila interface for me.
As the moment I use something similar called SPB Mobile Shell which seems to do similar things, but this is something I can open/close manually to still see the original WM 6 home screen.
Is Manila something similar, can it be closed like any application, or does it prevent access to the original WM home screen?
Thanks for the help,

No, Manila can't be closed, as it replaces and prevents access to the home screen. It's easy to turn off, though; you just disable it through Start > Settings.
Let me say this: if you're using SPB MS, I'm almost certain that the version without M2D would be a better fit for you.

So just to clarify, if Manila M2D CAN be disabled, in Settings, that means it restores the original WM 6.1 Home Screen?
So if I don't like it, I can turn it off? Then I won't need to install SPB Mobile Shell, as Manila does much the same thing/possibly better?
I agree it does look cool, but I ideally don't want to keep re-flashing to get a ROM that's best for me. But I may try a couple to begin with.
I am changing contracts so I can make better use of the internet through my phone, which starts on 1st March, so I want all re-flashing and stuff to be done by then, so I can start getting my email on the move etc.
It just seems like an ideal point to install WM6.1 as it's now 1 year since first getting my 614c :)

Dear all,
I've already successful to convert original HP WM 6.0 from Page Pool 4 MB to be 16 MB.
The reason I switch back to original HP:
1. My guarantee is valid until December 2009. If there's something happened on my HP 612c, of course the guarantee will lose if serviced.
2. For HSDPA connection, it is more heater on WM6.1.
Here is my step to convert original HP WM6.0 to Pagepool 16 MB:
1. Download Original HP 612c http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&swItem=hh-63162-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN , and extract it, you will find FLASH.NBF
For 614c, please download here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=215348&prodSeriesId=3544358&prodNameId=3544382&swEnvOID=4014&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=hh-64237-1
2. Download Xvi32: http://www.handshake.de/user/chmaas/delphi/download/xvi32.zip
3. Open XVI32, then open file FLASH.NBF
4. Click menu XVIscript then Editor
5. In Editor, type: DEL 3432 then execute
6. Save as Flash.DIO
7. Then using pagepool_by_wlodixon method, please choose 16MB http://matrixmen.free.fr/pocket/ipaq/roms/pagepool_by_wlodixon.rar
8. After that, you've got FLASH.DIO
9. Copy it to mini SD Card not SDHC
10. Press Mute button + Voice Commander button + Reset
11. SDLoader
12. Clean Boot, you've got original HP WM6.0 with Pagepool 16MB
I love my HP 612c WM6.0 with Pagepool 16MB

Dear all,
I've already successful to convert original HP WM 6.0 from Page Pool 4 MB to be 16 MB.
The reason I switch back to original HP:
1. My guarantee is valid until December 2009. If there's something happened on my HP 612c, of course the guarantee will lose if serviced.
2. For HSDPA connection, it is more heater on WM6.1.
I am using 6.1 mainly for better performance. Is original 6.0 ROM with bigger pagepool fast similar as 6.1?

I am using 6.1 mainly for better performance. Is original 6.0 ROM with bigger pagepool fast similar as 6.1?
Dear Miroslav.turek...
Yes, it's same performance, except there are different software:
1. Messaging -> no chat style like in WM6.1
2. Internet -> can't zoom in /out like in WM6.1
Everything is okay, no error..
When I first installed original WM6.0, there is always error application such as "Device.exe error, do you want to send it to Microsoft ? It is free"
But since I flash with the PagePool 16 MB, it is never error...
<b>About battery...</b>
Everyone here says that WM6.1 is more saving battery than WM6.0.
When I tried WM6.0 Pagepool 16MB, I think it is more saving battery compared with WM6.1 PagePool 16MB.
Do you want to try?
The point is WM6.0 and WM6.1 only a little bit of different software, the performance is determined by PagePool, not by WM6 or WM6.1.
I keep my original HP, but customized with 16MB Page Pool :-D

In my opinion 16MB pagepool is too much, I will test 12MB (same I have in 6.1). I will do it during upgrade radio to version 0.89.
I prepared original ROM using Semjeff instruction and changed pagepool. I will test it this weekend...

Thanks,
Marin
I'm sorry, today I've already tried to upload it, but failed, because my slow internet connection.
Can anyone help me to upload it ?
Please follow my instructions below:
Here is my step to convert original HP WM6.0 to Pagepool 16 MB:
1. Download Original HP 612c http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&swItem=hh-63162-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN , and extract it, you will find FLASH.NBF
For 614c, please download here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=215348&prodSeriesId=3544358&prodNameId=3544382&swEnvOID=4014&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=hh-64237-1
2. Download Xvi32: http://www.handshake.de/user/chmaas/delphi/download/xvi32.zip
3. Open XVI32, then open file FLASH.NBF
4. Click menu XVIscript then Editor
5. In Editor, type: DEL 3432 then click execute
Anyone please to upload the FLASH.DIO to mediafire, or rapidshare ?
Thank you very much

Install the radio .89 first, then the ROM. Make sure you empty the ipaq file store. I had a few issues connecting to network when installatin is reversed. Not sure why. I also would recommend doing an additional clean boot after install. Check you storage size in the Settings/About after install and let me know the size. Mine is showing available storage space at 109, doesnt make sense since the ROM is only 12mb. Might be the radio .89, cant imagine it being that large. Looks like it is holding on to the old 4 mb ROM somehow. I dont know. Maybe someone out there can enlighten me.
Thanks

I installed radio 0.89 (with original update utility it doesn't work, but I get other ROMUpdate.dll and it works). Then I falsh back orig ROM with 12MB. After some connection problem in GPRE/EDGE (may by my fault in settings) it works same fast as Yevg 6.1 ROM. I had some unstability, when I made registry changes, but after I correct it, this ROM looks stable. CallWaitingFix_RequiresRadioFW089.CAB really solved waiting call problem.
Some small bugs from 6.1 are not in 6.0 and then after half year on 6.1 I will use original 6.0 without worse feeling. Diferences are minimal and some of news in 6.1 I don't like.
Why this idea doesn't come earlier???

Hi,
If you upgrade to the 20757 build, your radio gets upgraded aswell. Hence flashing the new radio to 0.89 is the solution for it.

I'd like to try this new rom. but i could still revert back to original rom 6.0 right?
Btw, with the latest rom (6.1), is there any lacking of the original ROM (6.0), e.g.: network configurator, MMS, or any if there is?
Still downloading the ROM, so probably will flash it in a day or two, coz now it's already almost 2am :p

Yes, if you have any trouble with the ROM you can always downgrade to WM 6.0 through the official HP update. I hear that it's not possible to downgrade the radio ROM, however.
The latest ROM has both MMS and the network configuration tool. It also has some handy extra GPS tools.

I meant both - the link in the post you mentioned (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3381993&postcount=102) leads to the same ROM version as you'll find on the official HP site. It seemingly has the advantage of having both the OS and radio ROMs, so you can downgrade the radio too, if necessary.
If you want to find a country specific version, I'd check on the official HP page for you language. The official HP updater may give you problems over your device language, in which case you'll need the modified ROMUpdate.dll (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3308946&postcount=37) to replace the one that comes with the HP updater.

The usual answer to this kind of question is "try both and decide for yourself." However, I've got to say that Yevg001 himself recommended 1.4 rev 1.2, so that's what I use. It's never crashed for any reason that isn't my fault. NO. These ROMs are for the iPAQ 610-series ONLY - please god don't use them on your device! I almost guarantee it will brick your phone. Find a ROM made specifically for your phone, then search for the correct xt9 language.

Oh.. I supposed this one I had downloaded and installed currently use.
Yea it's better I think, especially without the pre-install/set of the "touchflo" (or something alike) that was installed on the other ROM.
But the 1.4 is rather misleading at first Because when I checked version it was 1.3.1 (something like that), so I kept thinking that it wasn't the ROM you installed.
Pretty cool so far, try not to enjoy using it now. :)

IMHO the WM6.1_20757_20757_YEVG001 firmware is the most stable yet.
But you must increase the pagepool to min. 12Mb, otherwise it is very slow.

1. Download the firmware, what means the flash.dio
2. Download this : http://rapidshare.com/files/207130510/Pagepool.zip.html
3. Unpack the zip.
4. Copy the file flash.dio to the Pagepool folder.
4. In the folder run this: ChangePagepool_16MB.cmd
You'll get the NEW FLASH.DIO file. Rename to flash.dio and there you go.

Hi,
I've never had an issue with the 3G icon on whatever ROM I had installed. Guess it's depending on your phone-settings (check your provider ?) and/or some settings in Schap's ConfigurationTool...

Hi,
Due to the lack of a second camera, it's not very usefull to have VideoCall in a

I've never had an issue with the 3G icon on whatever ROM I had installed. Guess it's depending on your phone-settings (check your provider ?) and/or some settings in Schap's ConfigurationTool...
:D
Dirk
I recently got round to finding out why I could only get GPRS (G) or EDGE (E) connections from my phone - it turned out it was only a 2G SIM card.
I replaced it with a 3G SIM card and now I can get HSDPA (H) and 3G.
But my phone seems to get confused!
Sometimes when it connects at home, it displays H, and other times 3G. If I then use the internet, it will switch quite a lot between showing H and showing 3G.
Is that normal? Which speed is actually faster?
Thanks,
DW

Hi,
Due to the lack of a second camera, it's not very usefull to have VideoCall in a
ROM. If you like to receive only, I suggest Skype. That did even work on my hx4700 without any camera. And I have used Skype on the 614c too. Mind you ... veeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyy sssssssssssslllllllllllllllllooooooooooooowwwwwwww wwwwww :)

Thanks a lot Dirk, will try that. :)

Hi,
In fact they mean the same ... 3G will show when you have a network without dataconnection active. Once you start downloading data, the icon will change to H, indicating that the HSDPA-compression kicks in. After that it'll change back to the 3G-icon.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense, as I know that HSDPA (H) is a 3G data connection speed. It is generally connected all the time, as Outlook checks my emails every hour and so won't disconnect afterwards.
Is there a way to make it time out? So it connects, checks emails, and disconnects, all by itself?
Thanks,

What I see is:
3G - network and speeds up to 3.6Mbps
H - 3G network and speeds up to 7.2Mbps
Be careful because normally the settings for 2G and 3G network (internet) speeds, are different!
About pagepool, with Advanced Configuration Tool the max size is 8Mb, right??

you can use GB-Soft tweak which enable you to disconnect if idle for x mn:
http://www.gb-soft.cz/XDAII/product_gprs-umts_tweak_wm61_diamond.htm
(successfully using it on mine ; it also enables to kill ghost data connexions when your phone cannot reconnect to the internet although it shows you connected...)

Hi,
The difference in speed is due to the datacompression, no more no less.
In Advanced Config the max datapool is indeed 8 MB, which is enough for me.

I have installed that on my 614c and it does absolutely NOTHING!
It looks to be a really good app, but whatever time I set, 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, etc, it NEVER disconnects the connection.
It -did- just disconnect when I sent an SMS, BUT it had been on for 7 hours 48 minutes when the timeout was set to 5 minutes!
I have tried soft resets and looking in the Registry in case something I have edited is causing a conflict (I had edited to registry already to add a disconnect button and timer to the GPRS pop up tab) but I don't know if there was a problem.
I really want this program to work, so my GPRS connection doesn't sit idle for hours, as unless I'm browsing the internet, it is only needed once per 60 minutes to check my e-mail, and can then disconnect.
Thanks,

WHat are the status of the latest roms? I haven't seen any evidence of a newer rom for the 614 for quite a while. I am running one of the Chinese 614c roms with Touch-flo.
Only read problem I have found is that using a set of bluetooth stereo headphone that although paired they will not connect until I go into the bluetooth settings for the pairing and reselect use as wireless stereo

i do not understand why it does not work for your ipaq as it works great for me ! the only solution i find is that you have a process which do access the internet faster than the idle time of gb tweak....
you could also try BandSwitch http://www.commmgrpro.com/ or PhoneAlarm http://www.pocketmax.net/
which has the same feature; just try the trial ;)

First, thank you all for your hard work. It really is much appreciated.
Now, I updated my 614c radio to v0.88. 0.89 would not install. Anyway, when I then proceeded to install Yevg001's recommended Rom, 614c_WM6.1_20270_rev1.2.
the phone rebooted ok but I now do not have wifi access. At first it was not in the wireless manager then it rebooted itself and although the tab is there to turn it on, it will not respond.
Sorry if this has been asked already but I amm fried from looking at these posts for the past 6 hours.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have found that if I leave my phone plugged in to the charger, and therefore ON, the GPRS will disconnect after the time limit.
But when running on the battery, and set to turn off (go to standby) after 1 minute, the GPRS will not disconnect.
I have tried this with a time out of 1 minute, of 5 minutes and of 10 minutes, and it doesn't work, it will only work if the phone is left fully on until the GPRS has disconnected.
Could this be because I am using S2U2 (Slide to Unlock), which includes some extra power saving modes that may cause problems with GB Tweak?
For now I have set my GPRS to always on, something that works fine, but that I was able to do through the registry before installing GB Tweak anyway.

Dazzer: I had same problem (without S2U2 or any other SW). I was used it, but I didn't see any changes in battery life. Now I am not using it and I have gprs always on.

My connection stays constantly connected as well, regardless of the software. I tried GB Tweak, and it didn't appear to work, but then I tried getting online and nothing would load. I think that sometimes, it displays the data connection as still established even when it's been disconnected.

that s exactly the problem that GB Tweak enables me to solve ! it close the data connection after 2 mn of inactivity so next time internet is launched it succeeds.
my settings are:
-turn off gprs is device not used for 2 mn
-search g-e-3g on start connection
that used to works pretty good with my french orange hsdpa provider

Hi thanks for sharing this info.
Btw, I thought of applying this method for Dopod 838 Pro rom, I can't flash it with normal method and it gave me Error 264, I thought flashing thru SD would be alternative for now.
So I have a question based on your info, do I also need to execute point no. "5. In Editor, type: DEL 3432 then execute"? Or what actually is the purpose for deleting that?
Thanks
Dear all,
I've already successful to convert original HP WM 6.0 from Page Pool 4 MB to be 16 MB.
The reason I switch back to original HP:
1. My guarantee is valid until December 2009. If there's something happened on my HP 612c, of course the guarantee will lose if serviced.
2. For HSDPA connection, it is more heater on WM6.1.
Here is my step to convert original HP WM6.0 to Pagepool 16 MB:
1. Download Original HP 612c http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&swItem=hh-63162-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN , and extract it, you will find FLASH.NBF
For 614c, please download here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=215348&prodSeriesId=3544358&prodNameId=3544382&swEnvOID=4014&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=hh-64237-1
2. Download Xvi32: http://www.handshake.de/user/chmaas/delphi/download/xvi32.zip
3. Open XVI32, then open file FLASH.NBF
4. Click menu XVIscript then Editor
5. In Editor, type: DEL 3432 then execute
6. Save as Flash.DIO
7. Then using pagepool_by_wlodixon method, please choose 16MB http://matrixmen.free.fr/pocket/ipaq/roms/pagepool_by_wlodixon.rar
8. After that, you've got FLASH.DIO
9. Copy it to mini SD Card not SDHC
10. Press Mute button + Voice Commander button + Reset
11. SDLoader
12. Clean Boot, you've got original HP WM6.0 with Pagepool 16MB
I love my HP 612c WM6.0 with Pagepool 16MB

Hi,
There's already a WM 6.5 :) , but if you want Swedish, you'll need to cook a ROM yourself....
Anyway, for the kitchen look here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501822)

Hi Clariwee,
Have you manage to get your hardware keypad working? My hardware keypad does not work when I am browsing the internet as well. I am using HP IPAQ 612.
Thank you.
Hi all,
I've flashed my 612 with "HP612_WM6.1_OS 5.2.20721 ROM: English - Elegant Black - Clean: by NGSEE" yesterday.
