Is there a program which is able to play .mpeg files on the diamond ?

Core Player, and other media players yep

It all depends on which codec you used for the mpg.
If it's standard mpeg layer 1/2, any media player should handle those.

If in any case you used mpg only as a container for another coded stream (like h26x), then I'd recommend Coreplayer.
