This is out of box from HTC . No orange customisation. I believe this will allow Orange customers to upgrade without the HardSPL stuff

Excellent. Thank you.

(Note for others that want to view that page: The Orange site uses session IDs and cookies so the referring URL will not immediately work - select your phone though and reload the link and it'll come up fine)

What are the benefits of this software update for my phone?
The software upgrade for your HTC Touch Diamond improves performance, stability and battery life.

How do I download the latest software update?

Before you upgrade to the latest version of ROM software, please ensure that:

you have backed up all of your personal data
while performing the ROM Update, all of your data and settings will be erased from your phone. It is necessary to back up all of your personal data (contacts, appointments, tasks) using Active Sync.
it is suggested that you save content such as music, ringtones, pictures onto you laptop or memory card.
your PC is running Windows® 98, 2000, XP or vista. Your battery has 50% or more charge.
Note: be aware that you cannot use your phone during the installation and you will not be connected to the network.

You will need to reconfigure your E mail settings once updated.

Windows installation instructions:

connect the device to your PC using your USB cable. An activesync pop up should indicate that you are connected. Do not remove this cable during the installation process.
click on the ROM link below and choose to save the file to your PC
Once download is complete double-click the file and follow all instructions in the installation wizard that will appear on screen. If the current and new ROM are the same version you can still re-install, this can often cures problems.
you can save the ROM to a file on your PC for reinstalling later or to upgrade several phones from one download.
once the installation begins you will see the install shield and integrity testing complete before the upgrade starts
when the ROM upgrade begins your phone will display a red,
green and blue (bootloader) screen, a progression bar will appear on
your PC and the phone will show progress towards 100%.
once installed your phone will install the ROM and restart.

Anyone tested this version yet?

Do you know if this update will reset the hard spl and radio versions?

Or is it just the rom update. If so, how would I restore my original SPL so that Orange wouldn't know I've tinkered with it?!

My phone has a fault you see and I think I will need to have it replaced.

Thanks

PS, I've installed the Orange ROM. There are no orange customisations at all.

It's like a very basic version of the unofficial 1.93 roms doing the rounds here.

It's good for those that have an old Oraneg rom and don't wanna risk a cooked rom on here, but if you've already got a new rom such as swiftbl or dutty etc, I wouldn't bother with the orange rom.

In fact I'm gonna install a new rom from here and not bother with the boring Orange one!

Just installed. it seems a bit quicker, but we've lost the animation between tf3D tabs :(

Tried that on my phone and got an error message "currently unavailable". Do you have to have 3G reception to get into it or is it down at the moment?

Not sure what you mean by animation between tf3D tabs? Can you still slide between tabs and if you do does the one you are now on show up? Also can you still move between tabs by swiping finger across screen please?

thanks, thanks and more thanks

So what animation is missing I wonder?

And BTW are you sure you have enough phones? :D

Atrius
15th September 2008, 02:12 PM
I mean the animation as one tab slides to the next. if you swipe to go to next [or previous] tab, it is there instantly, instead of 'panning'

[edit] aside from that minor annoyance though, lunch time has shown me the rom's very quick indeed.

Thanks, I understand now. That does not really bother me and i like the idea of it being instant.

Glitchy of late but that address gets you there, even on GPRS/EDGE although eventually it will tell you you cannot get reception because you;re not in 3G area. Keep trying.

allenf

Hmm, no improvement to 3G battery life, although 3G reception might be slightly better.
Never mind, I'm really impressed by the TF3D speed now.

all of the 1.93 ROM remove the TF3D animations (as far as I can see).

Interstingly if you fiddle the URL to this http://www1.orange.co.uk/diamond/

it lets you download a tiny file called temperature_mon.exe ...not tried it yet.

I've not noticed my handset heating up but maybe it will tell you how hot that griddle is ......

MJNewton
15th September 2008, 10:38 PM
Yeah I noticed that. Very strange. It seems to just show the current temperature from the internal sensor as per other apps - I wonder if it was used in testing or something?

More precise address for OrangeTV is http://orange.co.uk/r/orangetv/

At times even that is down but should sort things for future.

"Found"?! I can't find a link anywhere in their Help sections etc which actually links to this ROM update. Can you talk through how you got there?!

Having bricked a handset before, I don't really want to have to go through the ordeal again with an unofficial "official" update without properly knowing where it's come from!

Help?!

Installed the new ROM yesterday seems a lot faster. A couple of things i've noticed since installing the new ROM is my SMS mesages on the touch flow screen are missing, its showing i have 25, all i see is a white line going across the screen about a third of the way down, anyone got any idea why this is or has the same happened to them?

I've also noticed i get the H symbol HSDPA appear, I never had that show before in the area i live, the internet is super fast but it only lasts a short time (2mins) before it drops back to the G symbol and GPRS takes over. Any clues?

Are the 25 new texts or old ones? All my old text messages disappeared when I installed the new ROM - I did not bother backing them up. It says now I have no messages. Will wait until somebody texts me to find out if they appear or not.

I have exactly the same with the H symbol. Never had it before at home, but it appeared for a minute or so this morning when I switched phone off of standby (with a very low signal strength) before changing to more normal G (without stopping at 3 or E!). Maybe it defaults to H to start with and then moves straight to what is available?

have you flashed the latest radio version? official one is .05 and it will give you good signal strentgh, from what i heard when my 3g disappeared, H is a lot better anyway.

maybe try reflashing? also whenever you flash its advisable to hard reset before and after, so ive been told by cookers ;)

The new Orange ROM download includes flashing a new radio version - I now have 1.00.25.05. I have not noticed an increase in signal strength. H will be quicker than 3G, but it is finding it. Fine in cities and airports, scarcer elsewhere. I am just pleased I am getting any signal at all at home - with my last provider I had to go upstairs to make a phone call!

I have just spent ages putting all my personal settings etc back on after flashing the ROM so I am not after doing a hard reset unless I really have to!

This ROM has worked fine for me, it's quicker than the old 1.37 ROM and the album covers cascade in the music app as well, just like on the iPhone. A definite improvement. Thanks Atrius, for the download path.

I have been using the Orange ROM for a couple of months, and seem to have found a few bugs.

1: The clock 'randomly' loses or gains a few minutes. I have not spotted a pattern to this, but as I use the alarm clock to wake me up for work, it is VERY annoying! I do have the wonderfull Klaxon alarm clock on it though - hope the problem is not related to this.

2. Text messages - when typing a number or special character, a carriage return/new line is entered first.

3. New contact - when adding, I type the name, click on the telephone number field, type the first digit of the phone number, and the interface then thinks I have finished typing and closes the keyboard (could be related to 2 above).

4. Active sync always seems to be running in the background (seen by clicking the shortcut bar in the top right). I kill active sync, but next time I look, it has started up again.

Does anybody have similar problems, or fixes for these? I read in an earlier post that someone was looking for bug reports - is the above any use?

Also, does anyone know how I can report these bugs - Orange customer services are of no use! I am kinda hoping the developers reference this site!
