Call one Start Icon to be used & Other Wait Cursor to be ported i will happily port the Wait Cursor for you :)

This is what you want. It's a safe cab, based on Shakas registry tweak. Just install in internal memory and reboot. Or you just need the icon only?

Thanks for the cab but it doesn't change anything after install and soft reset.

So I've changed quite a few icons in the taskbar, including a custom start icon....However the instructions for changing the text "Start" do not work for me. I do not have the string table 321 in shellres.192.dll.0409.mui. The only string table listed is 1143. Not sure where this value is located on my phone. I've read this entire thread as well as a few others and this problem has not seem to have come up before:( Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance

May I have the Water Element icon for VGA? I looked for that image on Google with no luck. If you want, you can just send me the PNG so I can do it myself.

Edit 2:

The person who made the VGA version didn't make it transparent. If you could get me the original PNG, that would be awesome. In the meantime, I'll either try to add transparency into the one already made, and/or just use the Kubuntu icon.

1. Try copy & paste with " Total Commander" with "hide files in ROM" option selected,

2. Don't use default file explorer,

3. if you are trying to overwrite the previously pasted xxx.dll file, you should rename it to xxx.dl before pasting ;)

I am also having this trouble with trying to pull this file to edit the "Start" text. I use TC and tried the suggestion of "hide files in Rom" still same error. Also I try to copy the file to a location that has nothing in it yet it still says it already exsist.

Sprint TP2 running stock 6.1 with only some cosmetic changes.

sorry that I doesn't like any of the start icons here before

Therefore I made my one icon that match perfect to my "HTC touch vogue" and my "Manilla 2" theme. It is a little htc icon. An screenshot, the icon (in logo.zip) and the dll are added (with the htc wait icon).

I have try anything, read the hole thread but nothing.
I have a omnia, custom khuanchai 23064 6.5 ROM and when I put the shellres.96.dll.0409.mui in my windows folder (I have installed the necessary cab) and I soft reset my omnia, my start icon disappears complete, but the wait icon changes... What to do guys? I have noticed that by many users the start icon is on the top left side but mine is down left:confused:?

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere already, but I can't find any info anywhere!

I'm just starting out with this and looking to create my own set of icons, starting of with a simple Start menu icon, but I've stumbled at the first hurdle. I have been trying to copy "shellres.192.dll.0409.mui" or "shellres.192.dll" to my SD card, but neither Total Commander or Resco Explorer will copy the files, both giving 'access denied' errors.

I do have the WM6.5 stock dll's that I downloaded (from somewhere...) but I've got tsowentaskbar6 WM6.5 version.cab installed, so I was assuming that by copying out the correct .dll's on my device I could use this as a base and add my own edits.

I've got an HD2 if that makes a difference! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ah - I think I know why! I was trying to copy files that were stored in ROM. I simply copied over the shellres.192.dll, found that this contained tsowen's updated icons and edited the Start icon accordingly. I now have a very nice version of the attached as my Start icon in honour of my 300ZX TT :D

i was not able to delete the dll file thingy, i had to rename, copy new file in, restart device, THEN delete file.

Choose an icôn and go in the folder which has the same name, then put the shellres file you'll find in windows. If you aren't french change the "040C" by your localization code (0409 for US)

Sorry if this have been answered but I a little bit lost here...
to change the "start", I install the .cab file, and copy the shellres.dll.040c.mui(b4 that I rename to 0409) into window folder, but appeared "be certain that there is enough free storage memory, that the destination is not write-protected and that the file is not currently in use."

I try others ways by rename different name --> shellres.dll.040c.mui, and paste into window folder, then rename to --> shellres.dll.0409.mui, then soft reset....its appeared to change the "start" to "HTC"(item I want)....seems like I successfull, but unfortunately, all the word change to france...weird...:confused:

have any1 facing same problem?

Hello I`m Japanese and I use a Japanese Smartphone called "Advanced/W-ZERO3［es]"(Windows mobile 6.1 Classic)
I installed the "Icone demarrer.cab", soft reseted,
copied the "shellres.96.dll.0411.mui" to my Windows folder,soft reseted
but it didn`t work.
Does this method not work on foreign Windows mobile??

The file I had in my Windows folder was called "shellresapps.96.dll".
So I renamed the file to "shellresapps.96.dll.0411.mui", but still no luck.:(
I tried to make my own .mui with this file but the file was locked and I couldn`t copy nor move it.

By the way there was another file named "shellresapps.192.dll", and "shellresapps.dll.0411.mui" on my system.
They were also locked and I couldn`t copy them.

i used ROM extractor, I unsigned shellres.96.dll i replaced the start button, i saved and resigned the dll, I install sdkcert.cab and replaced shellres.96.dll and this is what i end up with:

As you can see, the start icon is missing completely and my signal bar displays "!" despite me being in a strong signal area.

For some reason I can't copy any files in my windows folder :mad:

I select the file, copy, go to my windows folder, but then I can't paste them. I don't get an error message, but the option "paste" in the menu isn't even there, everytime I try this :mad: doesn't matter what file I choose

And the windows folder isn't viewed when I'm using my pc to look on the HD of my Toch 2 (WM 6,5)? :confused:

And there is no shellres.xx.dll file in my windows map, only 'shellresapps.96.dll'.
so what now?

I think you have to use the dll of QVGA which is named like "shellres.96.dll.0409.mui" (By the screen capture I believe, you have a QVGA phone.)

also there is no option to delete this file.

It's a white windows logo, like that in win 6.5
The wait cursor is vista by Marshall.
The file is in 0410, so change it if you're not Italian.

Hello i made this thread to post my skins for start icon, a thread already exist but it will be clearly at that, i think ;)
This manipulation doesn't use more memory, no app required.

For QVGA WQVGA:

Install "Icone demarrer.cab" it's just 2registry key. (thank to my friend Shakass)

Then put in "/Windows"the file named "shellres.96.dll.****.mui"
**** is the localization code of your ppc's rom (040C for France and 0409 for US/UK)
The files you'll find in the folder are in 040C so change them if you're not french.

And Soft reset

This operation will replace too your wait cursor by the wait cursor vista by Marshall if you want to keep your cursor follow the How-to instructions to extract and modify your shellres.96.dll file.

If you want to put your original system just erase your shellres.96.dll.****.mui file and soft reset.


The folder QVGA-WQVGA contains all the Start icons

Open the file named shellres.dll.****.mui and go the String value 321 change the name, compile script and save then sign with MSsigner and put in /Windows; Enjoy !!

Here is some shellres.dll.040C.mui modified: Démarrer, Start, HTC, SFR, Vide(empty)
Change the country code if necessary.
