Speaker proplem

When I use the Phone on Speaker phone the sound starts off OK then after a couple of seconds it distorts so much I cannot hear the other person.Any one else had this and what is the answer to it, please.I thought about changing the speaker,but I thought if it was that it would distort from the start.
