If you have problems downloading from the above link (like google code is forbidden in your country), try downloading form the sourceforge page (http://sourceforge.net/projects/m2dc/)
You must have Manilla 2D Installed in order to run this program
you can get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398173
Manilla 2D Skins!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425974
This is an BETA version of the project, I am doing it for my own benefit at this point, feel free to use this tool, but I offer no guarantee that it will work, or that it won't delete your original Manilla 2D settings, or that I will continue to develop/support it.
I am a MFC programmer by day, but this is my first Windows Mobile project, so go easy on the comments please
Acknowledgments
Once TF2D came out I immediately tried to install and run the Diamond TF3D Config 0.6.7 by sushilange, unfortunately it didn't work, I started to follow the thread but have come to the conclusion that it is a Diamond App and will most likely not be tailored to work with Manilla 2D
I am starting this project because I do not like my home screen too cluttered so I disable a fair amount of tabs in Manilla2D and wanted a way to do this that was simpler than hand editing xml files...
First there are many people to thank because in no way am I trying to take credit for other peoples work
Thanks to udk, noonski, vetvito, hergzilla and the rest for getting Manilla 2D out and working, I was in the forums while vetvito and noonski were finishing and releasing the first beta and despite how geeky it sounds I must say that it was a pretty exciting time
Thanks to sushilange for inspiration via his diamond TF3D config program

(thanks to wmexperts.com for reporting on it back in July http://www.wmexperts.com/articles/howto/hack_away_at_touchflo_3d.html)
and finally thanks to camro for his post that started me down the path of tweaking my setup

Feb-7-2009
v0.29.235
- 2nd attmpt at fixing digital clock shift bug
Jan-30-2009
v0.28.233
- fixed digital clock shift bug
Dec-13-2008
v0.27.232
- added "Apply the settings to all fonts" button on the font dialog
- increased the color picker drop down combo box length
- updated donator list
Dec-01-2008
v0.26.230
- updated donator list
- added option to not update the TabIcons images and settings from a new skin
UPDATE Nov-29-2008
v0.25.227
- added new dialog with 1 option "Don't update Weather Tab", so you can choose if you
want to use your existing weather settings or use the new weather settings
UPDATE Nov-24-2008
Nov-24-2008
v0.24.225
- fixed background bug, only worked with "\Windows\ManilaGFX" folder, now works with
"\Windows" folder too.
- fixed some formatting on the m2dct inside of a zip file warning box
- moved some code around so you are not waiting for 5 seconds after you hit apply,
now the spinning cursor should come up immediately
UPDATE Nov-24-2008
v.0.23.223
- added a new background page that will let you specify a png image to use as the
Manila2D background. Right now there is no way to go back to the "default"
background, only restoring a theme, or applying a new theme can change your
background. This feature only supports "hh_fw_background.png" files that are
located in "\Windows" and "\Windows\MainlaGFX" which should satisfy 99% of users
but if you have issues let me know and I will read the value directly from the
HTCHomeSettings.xml file
- fonts drop down boxes are much larger now, much more easy to read
- added warning about a theme file that contains an m2dct file, hopefully this will
cut down on some confusion
- updated donator list
UPDATE Nov-11-2008
v.0.22.215
- added an internet page that allows you to set a different default internet browser
for Manila 2D version 20 (build 1.0.1820.3328)
UPDATE Nov-10-2008
v.0.21.213
- added more fonts [Messaging, interent, settings, weather] (Manila2D v20 only)
- added ability to add a folder of themes in the theme manager, this folder will
be remembered and every time you restart M2DC will look for new themes in that
folder
- updated donator list (I think)
- fixed build process (again... stupid devenv not knowing how to handle dependencies)
- uninstaller no longer applies your backed up theme
UPDATE Nov-04-2008
v0.20.207
- reverted xml file handling back to the version 13 method, the new method caused the latest
build of M2DC to not load after a theme was set through M2DC.
- updated about page with new donators
- added new font entry for the weather pag error text
- fixed a spelling error (thanks p1tater)
UPDATE Nov-02-2008
v0.19.203
- Added 2 new font items, weather tab low temperature, and weather tab forecast temperature
neither of thee will allow a color to be set, not sure why, if you figure it out please
let me know
- removed experimental WM5 support... the cab will allow installation on a WM 5 device,
but this app is being built with the WM6 SDK. The WM5 support messed up my build process
- fixed bug with version not being displayed correctly on the about page (see above reason)

MY 1.0 TODO LIST
- Add support for setting the default folder to open in the file manager dialog
- Add backup/restore for the registry key [HKLM\SOftware\HTC\Manila2D]
- "Implement the possibility to choose custom icons for the launcher. That could be a drop down list of the launcher buttons, where one can choose which button, and a button to choose the path for the icon."
REASONABLE REQUESTSThese are things that have been requested that I think are reasonable, they are not at the top of my list at the moment, but they may make it there in the future
- Add support for detecting what a theme file contains... ie make m2DC smart enough to know if the theme file is only weather icons, or that the theme file does not have an analog clock, If the theme file does not contain something in the xml or contain the actual files then don't use the xml or files for that settings
- Add support for picking and choosing which parts of a theme to apply. Show a list of theme components with check boxes that the user can check and un-check the specific things that he want sot apply. (only apply digital clock form theme A, only apply background and tabs from theme B, only apply weather icons from theme C)
- add option to hide tab bar and the non active tab icons link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2836165&postcount=614)
- add option to display theme information link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2820067&postcount=536)
- add option for start menu customization link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2808659&postcount=510)
- add new favorites to the internet tab link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2636386&postcount=358)
- add option to change the date format link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2710046&postcount=3175)
- add support for changing the launcher item icon link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2840793&postcount=4272)
- add option to apply welcome screens contained in theme files
- add functionality to be able to apply a skin via a command line argument link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2843873&postcount=663)
- add support for adding things to the operator tab link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2868339&postcount=770)
MY WISH LISTThese are things that I want to do, but I will need to invest some significant time into research to get them working
- add option to deal with *.tsk files (maybe copy the file to the windows directory and figure out the proper way to apply the theme in code...)
- add option to extract/apply themes that exist as cab files? (extract cab file contents on the fly cabextract.org (http://www.cabextract.org.uk/wince_cab_format/))
REQUESTSI doubt I will do any of these things (I try to give a reason as to why)
- Add an option to auto rotate the applied skin every 30 minutes or so
Reason I don't see how this really benefits anyone, maybe I will do it after everything else on this list is done, but that will probably never happen. Maybe I will add command line arguments so that you can create a mortscript or something
- change tab functionalitynew run method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2672372&postcount=2271]vjbrisk method[/url] | [URL="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2835131&postcount=4619)
Reason This uses a 3rd party program that I did not develop, and it seems pretty extreme, If a simpler method is found I will re evaluate this request
- add new tabs
Reason I have no idea how to do this, I know that they can do it for Manilla3D, and i looked into it, but right now I have no idea how to do it for Manilla2D. When someone figures this out let me know and I will see if I can put it into M2DC
- add custom cities to the weather widget
Reason right now this is possible to do by hand, my city is in the default htchomesettings.xml file already, adding the ability to connect to the internet and get information from a website will take a lot of time and effort on my part, and I think that my time would be better dedicated to the more important features of M2DC
- Add option to have more than 1 upcoming appointment on the home screen
Reason I have no idea how to do this, and I don't use the calendar on my device so I always end up hiding even the 1 appointment on the home screen.
- Allow for more rows and columns in the people tab
Reason The people tab xml is just one huge mess, it is really hard to do by hand, and just thinking about the code that I would have to write to make this work makes my head hurt. I don't use the people tab right now so I don't think I will put myself through the pain of doing this. Let me know if this is a huge request for you.
- Smart phone compatibility
ReasonI do not own a smart phone, and I have only received 1 request for this, let me know if there are more people that want this

KNOWN ISSUES:
- must be installed to the device, paths are hard coded for now
- not sure how well this will run on non English roms, right now some paths are hard coded such as "\Program Files\M2DC"
- icon is fugly, needs some work (help appreciated)
- restore defaults doesn't truly restore defaults, it just restores the entire HTCHomeSettings.xml file from when you first ran this tool
- ???
* All of these issues should be addressed in a future release
u may want to talk to user/rom guru "garmin" about ur icons..or even "bluemetalaxe".. to me they got the best icons around.

YES!!!! Can get rid of some of these useless tabs.... and maybe a way of custom weather soon? Closest one is New York City... about 3hrs away.
Just a suggestion can this be registered with apptodate? Makes updating my phone so much easier
shadowmike
18th September 2008, 07:51 AM
if you could make it wm standard friendly. as without being able to select a tab and then hit move up without scrolling through the list to the bottom.
but this works on windows mobile standard using my mobiler

Nice work. The ability to change what app/plugin goes into a tab would be nice if possible. I would like to use Weather Panel instead of HTC Weather and to change the Homescreen.

look for the HH_409_weather_cities.xml or something named like that in the \windows directory....copy that to your computer>open the xml file with either an xml editor like xml notepad 2007(free) or notepad.edit any of the top cities and insert you city name, location, state etc...and insert your zipcode or weather code(get this from www.accuweather.com,located at the end of url).save and overwrite in windows directory, soft reset and your set.

The tabs in UDK Polaris manila2D ROM cannot be unchecked. The program runs but the same config comes back again after the program exists and reload TF2D.
The same thing for 6x4 launcher....
I am doing something wrong or the ROM is locked so that it cannot be changed? Please advise.
thks
>>>Edit
I can manual edit HTCHomesettings.xml file and able to remove mail, internet, and location tabs and also copy the setting from pcarvalho 6X4 launcher. THANKS pcarvalho! I now have 6x4 launcher on UDK polaris manila2D ROM! COOL!!!

it would be really great if functionality could be added to change where widgets link to or possibly change urls without editing xml.
so people can use custom calendars/different internet browser/install things in different locations etc ^^
Nice program though

The tabs in UDK Polaris manila2D ROM cannot be unchecked. The program runs but the same config comes back again after the program exists and reload TF2D.
Probably because TF2D is part of the ROM and XML file is read only within \windows directory

Hello everyone, thanks for all the feedback.
I will be gathering together all of the suggestions and posting them in the 2nd post on this thread, I will try to keep the first post reserved for releases and project information, and the 2nd post reserved for todo lists, and feature requests
If any of you are interested in source code I just released it for all to see :)
http://code.google.com/p/manilla2dcustomizer/
I will be going through this thread in more details throughout the day. As I said in the orginal post, I am an MFC programmer by day so an actual program updates will most likely take place at night (20:00-23:45 CDT [UTC -5])

I think the problem is because - must be installed to the device, paths are hard coded for now but what does that mean?

THe problem is probablly one that alot of people were running into, the HTCHomeSettings.xml file in your "\Windows" foilder was probably set to read only. I just released a new version in the first post that takes care of this bug
WHen I say that the paths are hard coded I mean I am copyign file directly to "Windows\HTCHomeSettings.xml" and "\Program Files\M2DC". I know in the desktop verison of XP professional those folders could have different names depending on the language of the OS, I think some countries use "C:\Programmes"... anyways, I need t rea dup on the issue in windows mobile and revisit it
Tanks for the feedback, if you can please try the new version and let me know how it goes

This new version works like a champ for me. I had the issue with my xml file being read only and before I could go in and change the attribute you had released a new version. Keep up the good work.

Good Work.
And pretty fast:cool:
Maybe if cooks would take the attribute of the xml file into consideration so it would be writable from scratch.
Either through a small cab install in Autorun or The HTC ChangeFileAtribute app, Or A mortscript.
That would cure the issue.
Just my two cents, at least i know that's something i would apply.

Thanks for the icon twolf, it looks great! I have added it to my development builds and it looks really good. A new version of this program using this icon will be out tonight
On another note, I am thinking ahead to the theme management support, Since you are running the thread with all of the different themes what is your thought on the easiest way to manage themes? I know some programs have you download a zip file, extract the zip file, and manually copy the contents to the "\Program Files" or "\Windows" folder, I think the porcess could be easier. What would you think of having an "Install Theme" option in the M2DC software that would take the location of a folder, or zip file, and copy the contents of the theme to a new folder in the M2DC installation directory? I could probably even make my own file type (*.m2dc), it would just be a *.zip file renamed to *.m2dc, but I can probably register the file format so that when you go to open it in your file manager it opens the M2DC program and installs the theme.
Ok, enough rambling from me for right now, thanks for the icon

i havent been able to get weather since the release!
so whats ur secret?
Just jumping in here. Did everything as suggested by Scotchua and others and still had different temps form what was showing on the accuweather forecasts via tyhe desktop. I then edited the registry location HKLM/Software/HTC/Manila2d/Weather replacing my 'custom' locations with the zipcodes. It all worked after that. Why if I put the zipcode in the WeatherCities XML I don't get the same results? I don't have a clue

It doesn't work on my Artemis :(
I am sorry that it is not working on your rom, as Noonski said and others have mentioned it is most likely due to some file attribute settings. If you are up for it can you use Total Commander to find out some of the file properties? The file is "\Windows\HTCHomeSettings.xml", on my device the properties are set to "Archive" and "Read-Only", are the properties on your device set otherwise?
Thanks for the feedback, it really helps the process.

ah, if it is an Italian rom that might be the problem... I am downloading the Windows Mobile 6 Professional Italian emulator images now so that I can test and see for myself... I will get back to you on this bug.

FOR NON-ENGLISH ROMS
1)install the program
2)soft reset
3)cut "M2DC" folder from "program files" in your language (in italian for example "Programmi")
4)make a new folder called "Program Files" with a file manager in the main folder
5)Paste the "M2DC" folder into this
6)soft reset
7)disable "touch flo" from the config
8)open manilla2DConfig from your file manager (link in programs no more works)
9)customize!
9)bring "touch flo" back
EVERITHING WORKS WELL
plz give feedback if it works!

1. add new favorites to the internet tab.
2. customize the amount of appointments on the home tab.
The first option shouldn't be to difficult to incorporate I hope since the registry keys etc are known. It would be very convenient to do it with your tool. The appointments are for the future I guess.
Keep it up,

Thanks for the feedback, I will be looking into adding options liek those in the very near future, as I said in the OP this is my first windows mobile application, I usually program for the desktop, so I am still learning a decent amount on how to do the specific things that I want to do.
The things that will get implemented the fastest are the well documented procedures... so I am keeping my eye on a few threads that are listing all of them out.
I didn't "discover" the functionality of this app, I just read a forum post and then made a program around it.
Well thanks again for the feedback, you can expect a bug fix release tonight.
I need to lay the groundwork for a tabbed GUI after this initial round of bug fixes so it may be a few days without updates after tonights release
And if anyone is impatient feel free to check out the code from my google code page and build it yourself :)

...what is your thought on the easiest way to manage themes?
Glad I could help, about the theme manager... Great ideas! :D
it should indeed be a renamed zipfile, but it would need some "rules".
My proposition would then be:
- The theme manager would have to check if the zip had a folder inside or not (sometimes we create a zip and it creates a folder inside it, sometimes not... that would have to be taken in consideration).
- The zip could have a jpg named PREVIEW so that ppl could see a thumbnail of it.
- The manager would copy those files to windows and restart the plugin.
- There would be always a zipfile with the original contents in a backup.
- Since these files would be heavy it would be nice if the default skins folder would be \storage card (or whatever, for diamond and omnia users)\my documents\m2d_skins\
- If the skin had some special features, like a diferent clock, the xml inside could have that code, and ONLY that code...
The other special changes would be only allowed thru your tool, like extra launcher icons or so (I'm using 24 at the moment) and enabled tabs.
So the zip tree would look something like:
SKIN_NAME.ZIP
- preview.jpg
- changes.xml (with skinner info)
- skin (folder) + files.png inside
What do you think?
:)

I think zip structure sounds pretty good, I was thinking about the screenshot too, it would be a really useful functionality.
Most everything else that you mentioned should not be a problem, I am still working out some issues with file paths, but hopefully I would be able to tell if a user installed the app to the device or to the storage card, that way I would know where to install the theme... Also I need to figure out how to enumerate a non English registry so that I can unload M2D before making changes to the xml and files and reload M2D after the changes take place, right now that functionality works for English roms but not for non english roms (I think)
It will probably be about a week or so until I can get a theme manager implemented, I am stuck right now learning some GUI elements using WinCE and MFC. I will definitely be in touch and let you know when I have a beta to test with
Thanks for the suggestions

I am sorry to hear that this program is not working for the three of you (and all the rest that have chimed in on this thread)
I suspect that the issue has to do with the file attributes being an original rom file.
I just release a new version, 0.3.17 In this version if an error occurs it will log that error to a text file, and when you exit hte program it will tell you about the text file.
Would you please install the new version, run it, and if you get an error, please upload what the error message says, and if there is a text file in your M2DC directory called "ErrorLog.txt" please PM that to me or attach it to your post.
Thank you for being beta testers :)
ALSO
- Installing to storage card should be supported
AND
- Installing on a non English rom should be supported
Please test and let me know how it goes.

Good job with this. My music tab wasn't working(would just sit there Searching) Wan't to get rid of it. Your app did the trick.
When I first installed and ran it to not show music TouchFlo wouldn't boot up. I went back into your app and clicked Restore Defaults. Then went back in and unchecked Music and it worked. Weird but it works great now.
Thanks. I will be watch with interest your efforts.

Thanks for this! Manila 2D is MUCH better when you can customize it and make it your own :)
I've also noticed another little bonus in this app; the less tabs you have activated, the less ram it takes to run Manila! I've dropped from 40%-45% to about 37% of ram, which is the norm for any of my today plugins.
Again, thanks! Keep up the good work!

This is fantastic! Outstanding work.
If I had one feature request wish it'd be to modify what tabs launch, and/or the ability to add new tabs. Being able to launch, say, S2P instead of the audio widget or having Tomtom launch instead of Maps would be a wonderful edit for this application. Heck, with that functionality it would significantly limit our dependency on the Launcher tab.

They don't do anything right now. I think it is a pretty easy guess as to what My Favs is. Think TMobile and maybe Altell.
As for operator, nothing shows in the tab when enabled. Here is the lines for it in the xml file:
<OperatorWidget>
<Property name="IDOPERATORWG_START_POINT" id="0" value="13, 2" />
<Property name="IDOPERATORWG_Y_INTERVAL" id="1" value="0" />
<Property name="IDOPERATORWG_ROW" id="2" value="6" />

When you got all the relevant MyFaves (tab)icons in place M2D will start. the tab self is still hidden. Haven't investigated why though.
@mpenguin14: it would be nice to pick backgrounds, tab images, clocks etc. from different theme setups. Now I mix & match by hand and that takes a little more time. So when you've worked out a theme layout (with twolf) it would be a great addition to M2DC. And maybe an option to choose a custom folder for image storage, I mean other than the default windows folder. I know that works cause I tried it myself (The hh_weather images are still in my windows folder together with some launcher images).

I have edited manila to be able to open thired party calendar apps. Right now I have it opening thumbcal. I think I can make it work for any generic calendar app with just a shortcut. I think what I will do is have it open a pre-defined .lnk with a set name such as "m2dcalbn.lnk". Then people can edit that shortcut to their liking.
Thoughts?
Now, specifically dealing with the customizer app, you could have the customizer edit the shortcut to whatever the user selects.

As stated above, I can change what it opens, but it still shows the appointments. However, you can check the xml discussion thread. It is quite easy to just remove everything in that area.

first off... i love this program
my wish list if possible
theme support... or at least maybe a way to change the backgrounds for each tab
a way to make the contacts 4 colums just like the programs tab.
a way to personalize the email tab... such as which email accounts to display.. maybe a way to identify different accounts... colors or diff icons
a way to add shortcuts on the internet tab
and +1 for changing the bottom softkeys or to disable if possible and ++1 for adding custom tabs
thanks for the awesomeness of pain free customizing for manilla2d!!!

Are you having problems with the download? Or can you not access any google code sites?
I can look into find another place ot host it, or I can put it back up here, but I prefer to keep it at google code for now as they give me nice download count and such.
Thanks for your feedback everyone, I am sorry if I have let questions go unanswered... for the most part If it is not on my to do list or request list then I probably forgot, so please kindly pm me or reply to this message here with any feature requests.
I know it is dumb to announce a feature that you haven't even started on but I will let everyone know that i plan on working throughout the week and getting a version 1.0 that supports theme management this weekend. If anyone has any thoughts or requests for the theme management process please let me know
I personally think theme management will be the feature that I use the most from this project. Since I am not an artist by any means and creativity to me means running Windows XP with the silver theme with a gray background.
Since this is my first publicly released personal project I am very happy to report that this project has had over 2000 downloads :)
Thanks for trying this program out and leaving feedback.

What doesn't work?
Does it not install correctly?
Does it not give you any options on what to enable/disable?
Does it fail when you press "Apply"?
Does it tell you that there was an error log written?
Do the settings that you changed not actually work?
Are you using the latest version? (downloaded from the link in the first post)

Installed the latest version (0.5.0.44) on my device with Hyperdragon's latest cooked ROM. When I ran M2DC and clicked "apply" it hung indefinitely. Finally did a soft reset after waiting over 5 minutes. Now, Touchflo2D won't even start up on my device. i've tried running the customizer again, and still it hangs. Even did a re-install with the same results. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to avoid a hard reset if at all possible.
EDIT: I found a program called manilla2D.exe. in my Windows folder. Executed it and my TF2D loaded right up. Still not loading automatically on a soft reset however. Could this just be a case a removed shortcut in the Startup folder? Why would this customizer mess with any of that?

Thanks, but I only changed the setting from 3-column to 4-column. But the change never really completed, I don't think, because the program just hung on the little spinning wheel icon. When I re-opened the program after a soft reset, it still showed the setting was for 3-column, so there's nothing for me to change back.

hmmm, this might be due to the fact that M2D was cooked into the rom, so maybe the files are marked as INROM or something like that... all this program does so far is modify the HTCHomeSettings.xml file... You can try reverting any changes that were made by starting this program and pressing the "Restore Defaults" Button on the main tab page...
When you apply settings the following things happen
- Your today screen plugin selections are backed up
- Your today screen plugins are all set ti disabled
- Your today screen is refreshed (so that no plugins are loaded)
- The file writing changes take place to "\Windows\HTCHomeSettings.xml"
- Your today screen plugin selections are restored
- Your today screen is told to refresh
Could you do me a favor and see if there is a file called "ErrorLog.txt" in your "\Program Files\M2DC" directory? If that file is there can you post it in this thread or PM it to me? When this program encounters and error I try to write as much information as possible to that text file for crash report purposes.
I am sorry it is not working, if you need to you should be able to go in and restore your HTCHomeSettings.xml file by hand... I copy your original HTCHomeSettings.xml file to "\Program Files\M2DC\HTCHomeSettings-BACKUP.xml" when you first run the program.
Thank you for the error report

Thanks for the detailed info! There is no error log in the M2DC directory. I don't believe the program gets that far. The program just hangs whenever I click on apply, even if I haven't changed anything. Soft-reset is the only solution at that point. I have tried to install it to the SD card as well (I did the main memory initially), and still no joy.
However, because I am still able to start manilla manually by running the manilla2d.exe file, and everything looks and works perfectly, I don't think my HTChomesettings file has been affected. And yes, it is marked as "in ROM", so that may be the problem.
My guess, as of now, is that the program gets as far as step 3 (today screen is refreshed) and then gets stuck on the file writing part. And so the today screen plugins (e.g. Manilla) never get restored. Is this possible? If so, can I restore them somehow?
EDIT - I answered my own question. I simply went to the settings for "today" and noticed that the Touchflo item had been unchecked. I re-checked it and my TF2D is starting up as usual :)

Thank you for the detailed error report! yeah, if the INROM flag is set I thought that this program might have unexpected behavior, but couldn't test on my own device. I will add a check at program startup to let users know about this limitation.
Are there any developers out there that might be able to give me some information on writing to files that are in the original ROM?

as far as i know, but I maybe wrong, you could read a INROM file, save a copy of it and make changes on it on some temporary path, and then make a copy of file in temporary path to /windows dir .... I believe that with propper flags for FileCopy operation you can acheive same behaviour as Resco Explorer have, when you try to overwrite file INROM - it trows Warning dialog, and if you confirm, it saves file in device memory and that file is seen by OS from that point on.

One further request which in theory shouldn't be too difficult: The ability to change the time format on the Today screen.
It seems to always display in "tt h':'mm" format (am/pm, followed by the time WITHOUT leading zeros). If it is possible to change that I'd be very happy. I've searched for a registry key but can't find one, and it doesn't seem to adjust even if you change the system/regional settings for time display.

First of all, thanks to mpenguin14 for extracting Manilla2d and preparing all the associated CAB files.
I have the HTC Touch Cruise and the only kinks I've encountered thus far is that I lost the shortcut to the screen rotation and the back light control which used to be available through programs tab of the original HTC Home screen.
I'd like to shortcut them to the new programs screen, but after the update I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Sorry I don't get a chance to reply to each message but I really feel like I should reply to this message.
I am NOT the one responsible for extracting Manilla2D, I am merely a user of it just like everyone one else.
As I said in the Original Post
Thanks to udk, noonski, vetvito, hergzilla and the rest for getting Manilla 2D out and working, I was in the forums while vetvito and noonski were finishing and releasing the first beta and despite how geeky it sounds I must say that it was a pretty exciting time
I just want to make sure that no one thinks that I am trying to take credit for something that I did not do.
So thanks again to UDK vetvito, noonski and hergzilla for getting the original cabs out there, and thanks to all of the rest for testing and tweaking the cabs... I am still on beta 0.07 I will be updating to 0.08 soon once I have time for a hard reset

Thank you very much for this suggestion... I am going to see what tools the Windows Mobile SDK has for me to emulate this situation. Hopefully i can reproduce it because once I do that I can figure out what I need ot do to allow the changed. I feel like this would be a very useful functionality.

Sure enough. I just copied the settings file to another directory, made sure the attributes were okay, and then copied it back to Windows directory. Now it no longer has the 'inrom' attribute. My M2DC program is still hanging though. I'll try another re-install.

it would be really great if functionality could be added to change where widgets link to or possibly change urls without editing xml.
so people can use custom calendars/different internet browser/install things in different locations etc ^^
Nice program though
After installing the Hyperdragon rom on my tilt I found that you can add links to the internet page. The chef puts a link to xda on the internet page.
In "HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila2D\InternetWidget\Customiz ed" you can modify the default url that Opera opens on launch.
You can modify the Youtube link and in fact make it open any other program you wish. You can also add links below to open other favorite urls or another program.
This could be added to the customizer.

No dice. What I'm really trying to do is get rid of the AM/PM symbol, which is represented by "tt" in the format string. Even if I change the AM and PM symbol to " " (blank in regional settings) it still displays in M2D. I'm using a panel-style (diamond style) clock, so I may just change the am/pm graphic to a blank panel and leave it at that. Thanks anyway.

you could try and hide it the way that the skinners are hiding the analog clock
Open the file "\Windows\HTCHomeSettings.xml" with a text editor and change the xml values for the am and pm images from:
<Image index="43" name="hh_hm_am.png" />
<Image index="44" name="hh_hm_pm.png" />

1) i would rather have a comm manager tab than the settings tab: i never use the options "synch data", "change wallpaper" and "about touch flo". so its just a waste of space. i`d prefere the stadard comm- manager tabs right on the screen or at least the options (switch 3g/gsm, vibrate, terminate data conn, aiprplane mode, bluetooth, wfifi) this wourld save you one unnecessary hit...
2) a "save as read" option for emails and sms somewhere on the screen. or, alternatively, when opening the emails / sms widget you can read the first lines. so new emails / sms could be saved as read automatically when you open the widget which contains the new message. saves you opening the message, etc.
3) maybe a "delete" option for new emails / sms somehwere on the screen?
what do you think? agree / disagree? possible?

First of all, great application man.
Second, request: could there be some way to modify the transparency of Manilla? If you set a different Today Wallpaper it's not completely displayed because of the bottom and top bars of Manilla. I know the answer will probably be resizing the wallpaper image, but I think the transparency setting would still be worth it.

mpenguin,
As I was modifying my xml file I thought of a couple (three) other things you might be able to add to your config program;
1. ability to modify individual widgets (I changed the weather widget by just copying the weather icons and modifying just the Weather section of xml.)
2. create an "operal.exe" file that replaces the operal.exe that executes Opera with this new exe that will read a new "ini" file with a exe or lnk to another program ANYWHERE on the device.
3. the ability to change the ORDER of the programs on the launcher widget.
Just ideas....

If you could code a way to add the software we want in the widgets you would have a killer software...no doubt it would be one of the top ppc software downloads.
Examples:
Clock:SPB time
Music:S2P
Calendar:SPB Diary/AgendaOne
Weather:SPB Weather
As you can see im a SPB fan...this are just examples,it would be nice if it could be any software we like.

Updated software to version 0.6.97
You will probably see a much more polished UI, and some nice things are in there, the most notable features is
THEME MANAGEMENT :)
This feature took me quite a but of effort to figure out, but it is up and working to my satisfaction...
Right now I do not have permission from any of the skinners to distribute their themes, so I do not have any m2dc theme for download. But all a m2dc theme is is a zip file that contains an htchomesettings.xml file and the HH_* files that the skin needs. This zip file is then renamed ot *.m2dct, and the m2dct file can be imported through the customizer. When changing themes the HTCHomeSettings.xml file that came with the skin is queried for only a few select values (currently it is just values for the clock, in the future it will be other values too).
As always be warned that this is beta software. I spent A LOT of time developing this functionality in a way that should not be destructive to your phoen (ie you can always revert back to your theme that you had before you installed M2DC)
Sep-29-2008
v0.6.97
* Theme management support, see the forums and the include readme.txt
file for more information
* modified the apptodate xml file location
(now looks for it directly from the subverison repository web access)
* fixed icon support for apptodate
* added a restore tab, this tab will tell all the other tabs to
restore the default values to M2D
* some small GUI changes in order to make it look more natural on WM6
* mostly automated the build process
(only needs human interaction to clean up changleog
and enter google code upload password)

Hey thanks for the compliments, yeah I like your R Type skin, and I really liek that you had it posted as a regular zip at one point, most skins seemed to be posted as cabs and as far as development goes I didn't want to bother with extracting cabs in order to make a test theme file.

(currently it is just values for the clock, in the future it will be other values too).
When you say that you mean in the future updates, we will be able to individually change the icons and tabs and colors of the bottom bar and such without changing the whole theme?
Cause I totally love the idea where instead of making the .cab files overwrite in windows, they create a new directory (ie. Program Files/Manilla2D/Themes/______/files....) and if we go on, we could have it go as follows:
A /Themes/Clocks
/Themes/Icons
etc...

By this you meant if we slide from left to right or vice versa, we'd be able to switch tabs? I don't think that is possible right now. That was a TF3D feature that was taken out in TF2D.

Ok, the readme appears in the installation folder. Hope no one minds I post it here.
As I understand, current themes do not have the needed .m2dct file in order to be recognized by program. The program does not generate this file unless it is actually being used in the windows folder. Then, if you access the "theme" tab within the program, it will generate a "default" theme with the .m2dct and back it up on ins installation folder (much like hhc costumizer would create the "original" for HTC Home).
I ask: is there an easier way to generate these files without installing the theme manually and renaming them from "default" to the actual theme name (which would defeat its purpose)? Maybe on a future release?

Yes, thats it! How we can make this .m2dct or .theme from the different files and folder we have on the device? I have the files from the "HH-OriginalSkinBlue" theme in a folder named HH in storage card. How i can make a theme from this files?
pdgpereira
29th September 2008, 01:47 PM
Ok, here is what I concluded from the readme and the program structure:
When clicking on the theme tab within the program, it will generate a zip file with all of your current theme files under windows folder and rename the zip file to the "default.m2dct" or "defaultTheme.m2dct" on the "...\"installation path"\m2dc\themes" folder. If you rename it ti an .zip file, it will behave like one. Inside this zip file you can see all your theme graphic files and the xml files that define your theme. You will see these same files unzipped under the "...\"installation path"\m2dc\Activetheme" folder (since the program unzips the .m2dct that you selected as being your theme to this folder).
What people can do to create or modify themes to be m2dc compliant is to:
option 1: install the theme
install m2dc and press the "Theme" tab
Rename the created .m2dct file to match the theme and back it up
Do this for every theme you want to be switching to
Copy all of the created files to the "...\"installation path"\m2dc\themes" and use the theme manager as it was intended to be.
Option 2: just figure out what files the .m2dct needs for a theme (by comparing the default it initially creates)
Zip these files together from the theme you want to use (maybe all of them, I didnt check out all files from the themes created so far)
Rename the zip file to a .m2dct file to match the theme's name
Put this file under the "...\"installation path"\m2dc\themes" and use the theme manager as it was intended to be.
Dizzy?
I ask some one to test these procedures and, above all, the creator of this very nice program to make an easier way to do this from the program itself (suggest creating a folder for people to gather their themes, from witch the program could verify if all needed files where there and generate a .m2dct file, adding the theme to the list)

Ok. I just tried this proggy. I have one observation and that is since I have most of the images out of Windows, this backed up only the ones from Win and not the other folder. Maybe if this proggy can be modified to read and backup all the files from the ImagePath value it will catch up all the paths :)

Hey thanks for all of the feedback guys, I will now try to answer some questions.
Ok, the readme appears in the installation folder. Hope no one minds I post it here.
Thanks for answering some of the questions, I probably should have been more specific about the readme file and such
Now the question is how to make this .theme file with all the skin images. I have the images in different folders and not just in Windows
I ask some one to test these procedures and, above all, the creator of this very nice program to make an easier way to do this from the program itself (suggest creating a folder for people to gather their themes, from witch the program could verify if all needed files where there and generate a .m2dct file, adding the theme to the list)
I ask: is there an easier way to generate these files without installing the theme manually and renaming them from "default" to the actual theme name (which would defeat its purpose)? Maybe on a future release?
So it looks like there is sufficient demand for a theme "creator" functionality. As it has been mentioned, currently if you do not have a default m2dct file in your themes folder then the program tries to read all of the values from your HTCHomeSettings.xml file and puts together the default theme... I guess all the creator would do is rename your default theme file? Or would it convert a zip file from zip to m2dct? Or should it zip a whole folder of files? I think for now I will support importing zip files, that should take care of most people needs.
Ok. I just tried this proggy. I have one observation and that is since I have most of the images out of Windows, this backed up only the ones from Win and not the other folder. Maybe if this proggy can be modified to read and backup all the files from the ImagePath value it will catch up all the paths :)
@ababrekar I think I know what is going on there... the way the default theme is created is as follows
1. Generate a list of file names for the theme file
1a. Open HTCHomeSettings.xml, read the image path variable
1b. Read all of the file names from the xml file
prepending the image path if needed
1c. Add "\Windows\HTCHomeSettings.xml" to the list
1d. Search for all HH_* file sin "\\Windows", add these files to the list
2. Add all of the files to the theme file
I think I need to do a check when adding files from the windows directory, and not add them if a version of that file is already in the list... shouldn't be hard to do, so that functionality should be out tonight
The other thing that I have seen that I need to do is read the values for the location of the analog clock, and size of the tabs on the tab bar from the theme htchomesettings.xml

When a user asks for a specific theme to be applied the customizer will
1.) Open the m2dct file.
2.) Extract all the files in it to %InstalDir%\ActiveTheme
(ignoring the directory structure of the zip file)
3.) Read specific values from the HTCHomeSettings.xml file and write them to the actual
HTCHomeSettings.xml file locate dir \Windows.
- Currently the customize will read the following values
<HTCHome><ImageList> elements with ids 121-128, and 209-216
<HTCHome><WidgetProperty><HomeWidget> elements with indexes 0-10
1) Some widgets such as the photowidget and settingswidget have image reference which are not in the<ImageList>. Skinners would definitely customize those files too.
2) What if the HTCHomeSettings.xml supplied by the skinner be read/written entirely? They may have edited some items' rect_size or position, etc.
Great work on the theme manager! :)

@greatbal Thanks for the suggestions, basically my philosophy behind this is that the user should have the ultimate control over their HTCHomeSettings.xml file, I am personally not a big fan of the cabs that overwrite my current HTCHomeSettings.xml file with their new version, which is why I am doing it this way. The idea is that you can apply a new theme, which will cahnge some setitgns, but not all of them... I will be adding more settings tonight (reading analog clock posiiton values, and tab bar tab width), and I will add more values as they are requested.

I am not aware of how to do this... but a 30 second google search came up with http://freewareppc.com/utilities/msceinf.shtml I have not used it so I dunno how well it works

Yeah I agree, I like S2P, it is the only music software that I use, and I like how well it integrated with ThrottleLauncher.
Currently my goals for this tool are to change the "easy" settings first, and hopefully by the time I have all of the "easy" customizations implemented, someone will have figured out a simple way to customize the more advanced functionality.
So in short, right now I am just wanting this tool to change XML values, Registry Keys, and move files around the system, because as simple as those things are it takes a lot of effort to organize them in a simple fashion for use with a GUI

Not a problem, I will look into it, one thing that would help a lot is if you could either send me your HTCHomeSettings.xml file, or just copy and paste the values that it has in the Launcher widget node...
Currently M2DC checks to see what the value for IDLAUNCHERWG_COLUMN is, but when writing the file, it needs to know the value for IDLAUNCHERWG_START_POINT as well... I implemented the 3 and 4 column behavior off of a single example, I don't see why I shouldn't be able to add more rows/columns if I can juts see the settings for the LauncherWidget node.

Hmmm... I am a little bit confused at what you are trying to describe here. When you enable theme support M2DC will tell Manilla 2D to no longer look for theme files in \Windows (or wherever you had them before), it tells Manilla @d to look for theme files in the \Program Files\M2DC\ActiveTHeme directory. So that is where you should be manually copying files to... as far as the memory, I am not fully sure I understand what you are saying, please let me know where you were copying files to/from and I can make a educated guess as to what was happening there

hmmmm... that is an interesting situation, I was not aware that people were modifying the xml in such a way... well right now I am not sure what M2DC would do in that situation, I am just reading the xml file form the first child node named "ImageList", I don't iterate over the rest... I will see what I can do in order to make this type of file be readable by M2DC before the updated version I am releasing tonight

sounds like you understood what i was describing and i told you i hoped I made sense:) but, with your explanation above i think i was right on. i was manually copying files still into windows for small changes, it wouldnt change anything. from what you've explained, i should copy them to the above mentioned directory. so, all in all that would explain the memory loss i suppose. anyways, dont worry about it. uninstalled and just put a theme in and it was fine. thats all that really matters and mods can delete these posts to keep it clean if they see fit:)

UPDATE Sep-30-2008 11:00 CDT
v0.7.104
* oops, the theme management support for 0.6.97 was not future proof, so when updating to
this version your default theme will be applied. Your themes will still exist, you
will just have to re apply them
* added support for *.zip theme files... the cath is that the zip file must contain a
HTCHomeSettings.xml file in it
* added support for multiple instances of the same named node, thanks to ababrekar from
xda-developers forexample
* added support for 3, 4, or 5 columsn, and 3, 6, or 9 rows in the launcher, thanks to
kidnamedAlbert from xda-developers for example
* attempt at more robust theme support, now reads and uses all values from
Imageslist, TabWidget, and HomeWidget in hte theme HTCHomeSettings.xml file,
I still see some bugs though (digital clock showing up in weird places, maybe due to
the skin developer removing the actual file rather than commenting out the xml
element or just giving the xml element an invalid name)

I like where you are going with this. I'll take your latest for a test drive now.
P.S.: Don't know how far you want to take this program but people are designing clocks, weather and other stuff without a theme per say. Are you going to keep themes tab as a single manager or will you consider managing multiple M2D aspects separately (like HHC with the icon, weather, theme...)
Another thing: some one mentioned changing clock height (for example) and change other values from your program (weather icon position...). Is that going to be possible?
Last thing: Iīve been away for a wile. I don't know how theme creators have responded to your theme management in terms of creating a ZIPs with the necessary files, since ive seen some themes as CABs. Is there already a database of compliant themes? Maybe a link section within the program with direct download capacity would be nice and easy (preview would be a killer).

As my default theme was a back manila from Touch-IT m2d BETA v3.5, is it possible that blue galaxy had more textures than the default and theme manager does not have this into account?

I have the same problem. Even if I only change how many "spots" on the launcher it does it.
x2 on this problem when I installed over the 0.6.97 version. Don't know if saying yes to the "keep themese/settings" prompt when upgrading may have caused it but I can only get the default theme to display. Tried a handful of little tweaks to fix it like manually removing the themes and adding them back but with no luck.
Anyhow, I uninstalled 0.7.104, soft Reset, reinstalled 0.6.97, soft reset again and all is working fine again.
Keep up the good work MPenguin, this M2D add-on is awesome!

I think going in the direction of being ableto customize specific things would be great...ala spb customizer. I loved the customization in that.

people are having problems with 0.7.104, so here is a link if you need to downgrade
0.6.97 (http://manilla2dcustomizer.googlecode.com/files/M2DC_v0.6.97.CAB)
I will be looking into the problem tonight, I am not really sure what broke as this new build still works for me, if you want to help debug send me a copy of your "\Windows\HTCHomeSettings.xml" and "\Program Files\M2DC\HTCHomeSettings-BACUP.xml"

actually, the first time I changed the program's rows to 9 rows and to 5 columns and it wouldn't work. I restored my backup, then changed to 9 rows first. Applied. then di 5 columns. applied. It works now. maybe there is a bug if you apply them both at the same time.

n/m. Then I went back into the program and when I pressed themes, it said version .6xx had a bug in it, and it proceeded to restore my backup theme. What did the old version have to do with the new one? I did a fresh install, plus, I already made a backup.

nm..same issue that 1999TL had. looks like it is the themeing feature that is screwing it up. once you click on the themes tab and it backups your files, then no good.

Yah but the theme settings just put you in a continuous loop of backing up.

Ok. It's not your build that is causing problems. It's the way update 18 is installed apparently b/c I just installed the old customizer and it doesn't work with themes also. I keep getting the tap here for touchflo message.

I'm using the latest version of M2DC.
I tried adding the OperatorWidget and removing the SettingsWidget. When I clicked on Apply, the program just hangs with the busy icon and I had to do a soft reset.
The phone restarted with no M2D running. I went into M2DC again and deselected the SettingsWidget but didn't enable OperatorWidget (I assumed that maybe my ROM, TESS 2.5, did not have that widget so maybe that had caused the freeze). After hitting Apply, the program froze again.
Any ideas why this may be happening? Thanks.

Ha, Hell yah for sashimi. I just started using it. It's awesome. Err, so new build tonight? I just hard reset so I could use the old manilla and old customizer. DOH. Maybe your new release will work with the old manilla as well, b/c the old manilla worked just fine for me.

no guarantee on a new build tonight, but I will put it out there if i gets done.
I finished installing everything and I see the problem... I am not reading the xml files the right way... plus I am not applying themes the right way either (launcher, weather , and contact are not getting updated right now) It all has to do with the way I parse, read, and write the XML, and I am just doing some of it wrong right now... so I am going to try to make all the needed changes tonight if I can.
The new build should have no problem with an older version of M2D, it will most likely have another nag screen that requires you to backup your old default theme and re-enable theme support because I don't think I am going to use the "..\M2DC\ActiveTheme" folder anymore for storing themes. I am just going to start unpacking theme files to where ever they were located on your device when you first enabled theme support. maybe later I will figure otu all that is needed to fully change the path of the theme files and add that as a feature to M2DC, but for now it is just too much of a headache to try to figure it out.
Look back here at around 23:30 or so Central Daylight time tonight and maybe I will have the new build up, if not tonight I will probably be up by Friday night.

After using M2DC, now my TouchFlo says "Tap here to launch TouchFLO", and after I tap it says "Launching TouchFLO..." for a while before going back to "Tap here to launch TouchFLO".
I've tried uninstalling M2DC, resetting my phone, installing a CAB for a couple different M2D themes, etc. Any ideas?
Thanks.

How do you add programs to your program section and your contacts section?
Its simple really..
For 4 program columns edit your htchomesettings.xml with notepad on ur pc and change value="3" to "4" under
<LauncherWidget>
<Property name="IDLAUNCHERWG_COLUMN" id="3" value="3" />
Then copy to device and from device to windows folder.

I created some themes files by installing the theme with the cab or zip, then enabling theme support and letting M2DC creates the theme zip. Then i renamed the zip by the themes name, and so on one by one. I did this with 4 themes i like with the last former build of M2DC. Then i upgraded the the last version of M2DC, and moved all themes to the new themes folder. I tried to just switch themes, but the theme does not apply correctly. The first one loaded without the widget tabs functioning, and it froze on the people tab. Then i tried to disable the people tab, softreset, reenable it and so forth without success. Another theme loaded with an empty settings page.
The only way to switch themes resulted to be:
Disable touchflow plug in on settings/home
Switch the theme
Reenable the touchflow plug in
This way the themes work without problems for me, even the people tab and the settings tab. I will check more in detail if everything is ok and will report later.
Hope this helps

Nice update on the theme management option.
I have my own zipped theme files (which includes the settings xml file), just different colors of the original blue theme images, such as red, green, yellow and grey versions.
I tried applying my themes, and this is what's not updated:
1) Images on the Launcher widget
2) Images on the Photo widget
3) Background image on the home tab (only), other tabs' backgrounds are updated. (I have "use default wallpaper setting" for wallpaper)
There are references to the images on those two widgets which are not found in the <ImageList>.
So, please include those in your future updates.
Thanks for this tool. Very helpful indeed. :)
I have the same problems changing to any other themes:
-launcher buttons don't update
-camera buttons in photo page don't update
-google maps page background doesn't update (world map)
-and also the whole Sound profiles page doesn't update
Other things, more or less, work correctly.
Thanks!!

I had same problem. This fixed it...
1. Remove the plugin from the today screen
2. Disable the tab with the utility
3. Soft reset
4. Enable the tab
5. Add the plugin back to home
I tried this, still no go...

yeah as people are reporting M2DC is broken at the moment... there is no version of M2DC that supports themes with the latest M2D, I am hoping to have a new build up in the next few hours, it all depends on what all I can figure out

v0.8.111
* tried to fix all errors
* latest theme supports were broken due to my not parsing the xml correctly
* this version should work with the latest M2D binaries and the old ones
* I have only tested the new M2D package
* there might be some issues with clock enabling/disabling on themes... these
will probablly remain until a skinner tells me what they want the proper
action to disable clocks to be
overall I am a little unsure of this build, so much t test and I won't have time to test it all until this weekends, so proceed at your own risk (everything should be and to be fixed via a restore backup)
please test and let me know what works and what doesn't...

i have a n00b question... On the previous releases of Manilla 2D, On my email widget, when I got a new email I would be able to see the first couple of line from the email, on this latest build it just says "Click to view message", is this because of the hard reset and I changed a setting when reprovisioning my gmail account? Or is it something to do with the latest M2D build?
