I've written a small program that allows you to automatically change the background of your home screen. It works with TF3D only.

Why?
Because it's fun to see a different WallPaper every time you turn on your device.

What?
Diamond BackgroundChanger has the following features:


Ability to specify WallPaper Folder
I suggest you grab yourself a copy of this wonderful WallPaper Pack:

Ability to indicate whether to change the WallPaper automatically or not


Ability to choose the interval for changing the WallPaper
30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours, etc.


Ability to add the program to your startup folder


The program saves and restores your settings when restarted.

How?
Just download the attached CAB file and place it on your device.

On your device, tap the CAB file to install the program.
Note: Click YES if you get any warnings.

What Else...
You must click the "Apply" button to start the program.
You don't have to do this if you add the program to your startup folder ("Menu - Add to Startup").

You need .NET Compact Framework 2.0 to run the program.

Downloaded and installed on my diamond! :eek:

But i think there is also still a little bug when the device goes to sleep mode and you wake it up with the power on button my Diamond most times do not respond to the touch screen!?? :confused: Like the touchs screen is locked?
After about 20-30 sec the touch screen then worked normaly...
I have the problem only when your program is running in the background... when not the touch screen works perfect when i wake up the device... :confused:

Maybe for your next version some comments and wishes from me :) :

- is it possible that the application starts automaticly when windows starts
- it would be better when it runs as an own process then as an programm in
background mode... because i think then it works also to change
backgrounds when the phone is in sleep mode?

I've already modified the program so that you no longer have to run it in the background. In the new version it will also work when your device is in sleep mode.

I've updated the attachment in the first post. Please, let me know what you think. I haven't had the chance to test it thoroughly yet.

I've had it running for over a day now, and it doesn't seem to drain my battery.

The program only runs at specified times, and doesn't keep running in the background. It only runs for a few seconds and then closes immediately.
If you let it change your background every minute, your battery life might be a little shorter, but then again, the program only runs for a second if needed.

one big problem when default wallpaper is setuped no new wall is changed after that ever...

I see no indicator wall ll be changed too...

edit: so for now its changing between default wall and last wall I have in folder...but change only if I do something with my diamond and then again only default wall...weird...but it worked just fine at the beginning

edit2: that means there is no loop after setup last wall it ends at default wall and it change it to default wall again and again and again...pls fix this its the only problem for me...

I made it. I had to copy Microsoft.VisualBasic file from App folder to windows, and overwrite another file that was there :-)

Yes, I will look into your problem.

If I understand you correctly, the wallpaper isn't changed when you have chosen the default wallpaper.

Hello

I have tried all the ver you have provided, but the wallpaper doesn't change. There is an indication that it will change, windows indicator, but the wall paper stayes the same. I have tried to make a new directory called Storage card like mentioned above, but this does not help either. I get no error messages. I have tried to put it in the startup folder but also without results.

Then I deleted the Storage card folder and the error message mentioned above occured. I guess therefore that the path is correct.

I have also hard reset my device to make sure that there is no problem with other applications innstalled. Same problem... it will not work...

Or could it be that the default wallpapers doesn't work. I have not downloaded other wallpapers because I wantetd to try it out first.

OK maybe I confused you...again
interval is 30secs...I have 12 walls in folder...
1.setup first wall manually
2.after 30secs it change to default wall
3.during 3minutes EXACTLY it change 6 times in row to default wall so it looks like nothing is happening except WM wait cursor during changing
4.after that it change to last wall in folder for 30secs and this hole loop is repeating...

I ll try it on new OS I ll flash in the evening...

If you click the "Change Now" button, does it change your wallpaper?

Also, what kind of files do you have in your wallpaper folder? (JPG files?)
You don't get any errors, e.g. "Unable to change wallpaper" or "Directory does not contain any files"?

I only have JPGs in my folder. I've checked by trying to change the folder name to something random, then it says there are no images there, so I know the folder name is right.

I just get a blank background image, whether I change manually or not.

till now, I don't think there is any app let you change the background of TF3D's screen other than the home screen.

I would love to see my favour wallpaper on all the screen too.

I think, you should choose a wallpaper (picture, photo, etc.) with the explorer, tap and hold on it and choose the option "set it as a wallpaper"

I've tried many solutions.....thick TF3D, un-tick TF3D, choose a wallpaper for today , change it....uninstall BackgroundChanger ..... nothing..... so I' ve restored a previous backup...... :( It's a pity. Maybe I've done a mistake. I like this program, and I would like to launch it only when i want (when in charge) and not in startup (....battery :( )

I have a big problem with this latest version. It prevents TF3D from loading up on switch on or if the phone is connected to an Active Sync PC. The only way I can solve it is doing a red button reset. Turning the phone completely off with power button doesn't solve it which I would have thought would have.

When it is up and running it appears to work fine although in one instance it defaulted to the TF3D squares and no amount of manual changing using the programme would change that so I had to reset again.

Is it trying to load up before TF3D and therefore confusing it?

I have 0.5 version of your program. Sometimes it cannot load a wallpaper from the folder I give it. For example I set a folder with 30 wallpapers all in jpg or png format and set to change them every 1 minute. And sometimes it works, sometimes does not, leaving just a black screen. I checked all the files in wallpaper folder - they all work and can be seen on my Diamond. Why then your program cannot load it? Maybe it has some restrictions I do not know about?

fantastic program!! The only "problem" I encounter was that out of 20-or-so wallpapers, the same 3-4 wallpapers just keep on showing up. I hardly see the other ones at all.

This was a great idea and I love that it uses so few resources. I'm having 2 issues. I only have three pictures in Internal Storage/Content/Wallpaper. They are currently all JPG files and are all identical size. The program is running on a Sprint Diamond. It is currently set to change every 30 seconds. It rotates 2 of the pictures but not the third. The third picture never appears. Instead, it seems to rotate the default wallpaper along with the other two.

So here's what happens: picture 1, picutre 2, default (black) wallpaper, picture 1, picture 2, default (black) wallpaper and so on.

Default wallpaper is not in my wallpaper folder. I went to "settings" in TF3D and changed my default wallpaper to the missing picture. That picture then appears as wallpaper until the rotation starts. Then the missing picture disappears and the rotation goes back to picture 1, picture 2, default (black) wallpaper and the third picture does not come up in the rotation. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the third picture. It was a png and the others were jpg so I converted it to a jpg but it didn't help.

Okay, I resized the picture again and it seems to be working. It's odd because the picture was 640 x 480 and was a png file. I converted it to a jpg then reduced it to 120 kb and it works fine. It also stopped rotating in the default (black) wallpaper.

Man, you just go to /Windows/StartUp folder on your device and remove program from there manually by deleting appropriate file.

A bug some of you also might run into today: After the DST change the schedule was out of sync with the local time. This was causing the software to permanently run, thus blocking my PPC. I finally managed to access the program and untick the schedule box, but it wasn't easy. Hooking the PPC up to my PC as a USB disk helped somewhat.

Uh oh, most of my wallpapers are numbered. Any plans for a fix or should I start renaming?
Also, I've got my wallpapers on the storage card and this may be the problem. Right before the wallpaper changes, I get a spinning beachball for a couple of seconds (I'm assuming this is the program starting) and then nothing for a couple of seconds and then it changes. Any way to get that beachball to not pop up? Also, would it be possible to make the transition smoother so that the current wallpaper fades out and the new one fades in?

Very cool software. About to try it on my Touch Pro.

One thing I'd love to see is the ability to set a schedule for certain folders of images so it can apply them based on certain circumstances. So I could have it cycle through one folder during work hours, a different folder in the evening, maybe another one on the weekends, etc. So I can have the cooler, less professional photos (anime, pin-ups, etc.) during weekend hours, cleaner work-friendly photos during work days, etc. Just a few user-definable time-frames where I can point it to different folders for each.

How?
Just download the attached CAB file and place it on your device.

On your device, tap the CAB file to install the program.
Note: Click YES if you get any warnings.

What Else...
You must click the "Apply" button to start the program.
You don't have to do this if you add the program to your startup folder ("Menu - Add to Startup").

You need .NET Compact Framework 2.0 to run the program.

i have it set to 5 minutes so that i can have a good look at the wallpaper pics i got....really nice.

i actually have it going on just the home page and so far i think i will prefer that. if you decide to update the file and make it so that it can be on all pages, please make that an option so that we can choose to have it on all pages or just the home screen.

I agree completely. Its a nice piece of software.
Now i can see all my girlfriends photos like a slideshow.

Anyway, one small problem, sometimes the program reloads the same pic, but in
a wrong size...it shows a wrong pixel size, a little stretched and the black TF3D background comes through. I will post a screenshot later.

ok, i got a couple of questions and requests for the next update...if there is going to be one.

1) does the program go through all the files within the specified folder? i have a mix of .jpg & .png files (717 in total) and wonder if the program will cycle through them all.

2) is there a way that the next version could have an option to either pick images in a random shuffle (repeat & or non-repeat) or continuous loop.

3) is there a maximum number of images that the program can cycle through? as stated i have about 717 different images in .jpg or .png and i don't think it is going through them all, i see a lot of repeats as well.

/Internal Storage/Content/Wallpaper - is a default Diamond directory for wallpapers.

What I expect to be fixed in the future:
1. Beachball not showing up when wallpaper changes. Because it shows up on top of ANY application I run on my Diamond.
2. Custom time intervals.

In TouchFlo 3D, go to "config" tab. There's one option to change wallpaper. Use that option and try out if that works for you. That works for me for 1.93 ROM.

I had same problem. I removed all numbers from filenames (even numbers at the end or middle). I also removed spaces from filenames, and special characters such as underscore. I dont know which of the above fixed it, but now all my pictures work.

Guys, I also had problems to get this nice app working - it showed approx 1/10 of pictures..
but...

NOW I KNOW where the problem was! You must rename your pictures resp. extensions to lowercase!!! (JPG -> jpg)

I did this now and I have no more blank backgrounds or little white squares I had!
I have only jpg pics now so someone should try it with other ext.
Maybe the number-bug should be verified,too because maybe you were successful
just because when renaming you also changed JPGs to jpgs :-)
I have Raphael with Ellite RC3 but I don't think this bug is device specific.
So maybe version 0.6 should be born :-)

maybe im missing something. but it DOES change the background in all tabs so long as you have muns backgd for all tabs cab installed. only concern ive seen is that i get my spinning wait cursor sometimes when the app goes to change my wallpaper and it slows my device down. that can be a pain when i have it set to 1 min. i like them changing all the time:)

Ditto. Not sure if I can supply any more information. Application set to change very 30 seconds for testing. This is the order I go:

-Set wallpaper via settings tab
-Launch Application, set directory, set time, hit schedule button (show's it'll run in 30 seconds), hit change now.
-Close Application (by tapping on "Ok")
-the wallpaper has changed
-wait 30 seconds... "beachball icon appears", wallpaper changes
-wait 30 seconds... "beachball icon appears", wallpaper changes
-wait 30 seconds... "beachball icon appears", default wallpaper
After this it seems to be random if it'll pick another wallpaper or if it will stay on the default. Even going to the settings of the application and manually hitting 'change now' it still won't change off the default application.

I don't have any images that begin with numbers. Any other suggestions?

Been working on mine nicely, swapping the background every 5 minutes from a bank of about 50. Although more than any other, it switches to the standard one... Is there a way for the program not to include the standard background in the shuffle? It's quite ugly.

Got it sorted now.
The default one only seems to appear when it doesn't recognise the filename. Make sure all the wallpaper names have no numbers in and are in lowercase. If all are correct the default should never appear :D
Or so is the case with me :)

do you have an italian/wwe/fra/../ rom? you have to change "Intern geheugen" with the term wrote in your diamond. For me is "memorizzazione interna" because i've an italian rom ;)

i have a Htc HD, and i am running the new ROM 1.56

i have installed the Analogue and small flip clock mod and i have Diamond Back ground Changer v0.5 installed.

problem is when i press the power button to wake phone up i get this some time, not all the time.

Hello! I've been using this app all the time, on 6.1 TF3D custom roms. Now I have a WM6.5 custom rom on my diamond, and I dumped TF3D for titanium (my choice, whether good or bad). Is there any way to have the titanium backgound (wm6.5 standard background, I guess) change with this app or anything else?

This is the best wallpaper changer I've used out of all apps that are available but there a couple of things I want to point out. The wallpapers are zoom in after the images are changed. Also, it doesn't change the wallpaper in landscape mode. It'll be nice if you can implement the "Fit to screen" feature. Thanks for this app. Hopefully those features are included in the next release.

I have tried many times to redirect the path to point to, but it keeps telling me no files are present. i downloaded one of the picture packs to try it out and it does not work. i am kinda new to windows mobile6.5 so if you could give me an example on what the path should look like, that would be great. here is what i put in \\MyDocuments\Breathtaking - that is what i thought the path was. the folder is in my My Documents folder and the folder is named breathtaking. any help would be great.

I tried different sd cards, a hard reset and a complete uninstall/reinstall, so I had the idea of using different pictures. I had 735 pictures. I deleted them all, and put back ten pictures and it works perfectly. I then added pictures back, ten at a time until I found a set of 25 pictures that break the program. These pictures seem normal and open inside the phone in the picture viewer.

I don't know, but I suggest you delete all your pictures and re-add them in groups.

I am using S2U2. I a hard reset with the same card and the same picture set and background changer will still broke. I did a full restore with sprite backup and deleted all the pictures and re-added them and it now works, even with S2U2 :D

Change the file name of all your background pictures plain text letters or words. Remove spaces, numbers and such.

Eventually this program works only when names of the photos are in lowercase and without numbers. However, this rule must be applied to all files, otherwise application seems not work correctly. Doubtless it’s a very strange behavior!!

Summing up, I am wondering if the developer of this great idea is eager to continue this program, because I didn’t see any post from him for a long time. However it’s a pity that he isn’t in mood to share the code of the application in order to continue someone else his project.

The thing is when you rename file from mobile it will create file with uppercase extenssion and when the wallpaper changer finds file with uppercase it starts showing default black wallpaper...

Please use following free file rename utility and fix this issue finally...

nice application yusufgandhi.. :) Does anyone know the developer of this program ? If he is in mood to share code of this program, I am eager to continue his work and give to world a new version. I will definitely release it not only free but without any donation !!

Please let me know if anyone know this developer and we must try all to keep this thread active. It' s a great application and it's a pity to put aside this try

One more annoying issue

Few days ago I noticed that my Diamond open and close directly its monitor one minute before new day come, namely at 23.59.. Scheduler with one day frequency, is my selection for automatic background change.

It seems that application do something and awake my device. When scheduler has been disabled, the behavior of HTC Diamond was correct at 23:59 and it didn't open, so this application is responsible for this issue.

Any suggestion are welcome.
