[APP] Improved HTC USBToPC PopUp

Hi,

I've prepared install cabs of the improved HTC USBToPC PopUp from the Touch Pro's ROM for the Diamond users. A new choice "Internet Sharing" appears when an USB cable is plugged into Diamond.

I've divided app onto 2 cab files:
- HTCUSBToPCPopUp_2_0_18172128_1.WWE.cab - application's binary + english language support
- HTCUSBToPCPopUp_2_0_18172128_1.i18n.cab - additional languages

At this time supported languages are - English, Dutch, Italian, German, Czech, Swedish, French, Greek, Spanish, Polish, Danish, Chinese Traditional, Portuguese Portugal, Russian,Norwegian and Hebrew. I can add new languages on demand, but i need some cooperation:
- file(s) \windows\HTCUSBToPCPopUp.exe.wxyz.mui (wxyz is a 4 digit code) from the localized Diamond's ROM
- translation of the strings "Internet Sharing" and "Use phone as modem" in the requested language

Install:
1) install HTCUSBToPCPopUp_2_0_18172128_1.WWE.cab
2) restart your device
3) install HTCUSBToPCPopUp_2_0_18172128_1.i18n.cab if you want to use any supported non-english language

In french you can respectively translate these by "Partage de connexion Internet" and "Utiliser le téléphone en tant que modem"

cool app, but about the ''internet sharing'' , does this mean that the Diamond will share its internet connection when connected to 3G/EDGE for example?

or it is that the PC will share its internet connection with diamond? ( PC as a host here)

internet sharing means that diamond will share its internet connection (3G/EDGE/GPRS) with pc.

if you want to share PC's connection to diamond, use "active sync"

I don't know how to say it, but after installing it I had a problem on TF3D: lines started blinking and IT IS ORRIBLE! Unistalling it did not solve the problem! ...any ideas?

UPDATE: Ok, it seems to be solved after turning off and on the device... It SEEMS to...

This is my attempt at translating the WWE mui file to Portuguese.
I've tried it in my device and it worked.
I'm posting the original Portuguese mui (with only the options for ActiveSync and Disk Drive), and the translated English mui (renamed to Portuguese localization).
Take a look at it, and let me know if it's good. If not you have the translated strings you need to make a good one.

I tryied to install this cab (the english language only) on my swto's vanilla rom (this rom does not contain inside it the standard usbtopc popup package) and nothing is happened..maybe this app is just an extension of the normal "2 choises" usbtopcp app? Or is it standalone and I missed something?

i have no problem with the font, xn resource editor's font support looks perfect...please can you send me all \windows\HTCUSBToPCPopUp.exe.wxyz.mui files from your diamond? because code 0409 is for english as i know. maybe you have more mui files in your device (czech devices have two files - with codes 0409 and 0405) or the hebrew localization overwrites english files.

Your cab is "almost" complete...it's just the the rgu file that miss in it...I've extracted it from another cab and if I add it to my registry all work...
I attach it to this post, if you will create another cab with this inside, changing its extension to .rgu (and maybe also renamed as the dsm still present in your version?), all should go fine.
I think it will be very useful for lite roms owners...

sorry for delay. this is the problem of all ROMs localized by the additional SW. if the localization is in ROM, original mui file retrurns from ROM.
you can download the mui file HTCUSBToPCPopUp.exe.0409.zip from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420433&highlight=connection&page=6, unpack and copy it into \windows directory or leave intallated my i18n cab, all mui files in it should be compatible with 2 choices popup.

i've read your registry file, and your registry setting should be done during the installation by this part of the _setup.xml

i've no chance to test all the registry settings, because most of them are included in the 2 choice version of the popup. i've test the value \HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\MASD\USBToPCPopUp - before the installation of my cab the value is "1_0_18143432_1", after install is "2_0_18172128_1", after uninstall is "1_0_18143432_1". it looks like installation writes into registry.

great - this will come in handy as soon as I start using my phone instead of my additional data contract ;)

just some smarta***ing on the wording here:

'Use phone as moden' doesn't quite describe internet-sharing. In my opinion this would mean setting up a dial-up-connection on PC to dial an ISP (which is possible also using UMTS).
So I think it should say 'Use phone as router', 'Use phone as Internet-router', 'Connect to phone's internet' or something like this...

Installing the normal variant works like it should, but the last entry is empty. As in, no text, i can select it.

The language cab seems to be broken, if i install it, the popup won't show up anymore at all.

I am using the Dutch language 1.93 rom.

it's more complicated than QVGA skin. app needs support in the rom (call app after usb cable is plugged, mass storage drivers...) and the support is done only in the new htc devices.

A funny side anecdote.

I recently dumped Swift's Rom and found he had the latest Jblend Java.

I then went on to ask him where he had it from not realizing i had uploaded that version myself.

Same goes for this cab ;)

Updated Blackstone Volume Control, the cab has dutch 0413 MUI file but it can simply be replaced by the original MUI file.

It has a new Overlay for some applications.

It might be that the old Volume control Service needs to be removed from registry first before trying to install this one.

Yes, you can create a shortcut to \windows\HTCUSBToPCPopUp.exe.

if you create link for \windows\HTCUSBToPCPopUp.exe, not for \windows\HTCUSBToPC.exe, popup appears after the clik. but if the mode of the connection will switch correctly...it's a question :)

If an when you do decide to make any changes, I think a good one would be the option to be able to select the type of connection the user wants to use when selecting "Internet sharing" to have the option to also select inside that button "USE PHONE AS MODEM" and "USE SPRINT" to tether with.

Has anyone tried this with the Xperia X1? I installed it, and I get an extra checkbox under Settings > Connections > USB to PC, but when I connect it to my PC, it just chooses ActiveSync or Diskdrive (whichever I set under USB to PC), and doesn't ask me anything.

hi, if i've source code, i would give it to the community. the pop-up is HTC's application which can be found on the new devices diamond and touch pro. the version from the touch pro has 3rd option "Internet sharing". i liked this version but i didn't want to install unofficial ROM, because my diamond works fine. all i did is i've prepared is small install cab and then localization files.
adding new choise is about writting all new app. it shloud be easy, but i'm out of the free time.

i try to remove original HTCusb2PCpopup from OEM directory, then i convert this cab with package creator and put it into the OEM directory.

after cook and upgrade the rom, i have no popup anymore...

Go into Settings->Connections->USB to PC and check the box at the bottom 'Ask about connection type when I connect' to restore the popup...

Just Go to Start > Settings > Connections > USB To PC and deselect te option...
That's all...

You don't have a VGA device!
And you don't have a Diamond or PRO...
That's why it doesn't work as expected!

Have you installed both cabs from the first page? - HTCUSBToPCPopUp_2_0_18172128_1.WWE.cab and HTCUSBToPCPopUp_2_0_18172128_1.i18n.cab

Yes, of curse, in this sequence. Tested once again, same "error".
Then tested without USB connection and the device was completely restartet - it works! Maybe the connected device blocked something, don't know. But now it's all ok.

Maybe I've overlooked a "feature" in this thread: is it normal that I have to hurry up for my decision which kind of connection I want to choose? The menu disappears very fast when not touched. Not a problem, just a question.

I installed the cab no problem, and got the internet sharing option.

I tried to connect via USB cable, but I got an error code 67, vision username / password may be incorrect.

How to identify what my vision account credentials should be?

I checked the settings in the native Sprint account, but other then seeing it dial #777 for using the internet, I couldnt' discren my credentials.

If you pick one of them and hit the CheckBox to always use, that will become your default. You can remove the checkbox (turn on always ask) with the following
Start > Settings > Connection > USBtoPC <-- going by memore as I just did an HR

or you can manually change the registry with the following,
[HKLM\Software\OEM\USBtoPC]
"AskConnect" = "1" (Always ask)
"AskConnect" = "0" (Don't ask)

If this didn't answer your question, please elaborate on what you want to do or change. I may have misunderstood. :)

Anyone know how to switch to an "Local Harddisk" instead of an "Removable Media" ?
I found at HKLM\Software\OEM\USBtoPC\ the key Device_Type , but it seems to change nothing!
I need that because i use the Recycler, and this is under Windows only available when the Device is shown as "Local Harddisk"

(i think HTC has only copy this Software) it´s possible to switch.
But when i install nueMassStorage on my HD, it isnt work as USB-Device anymore...

I've installed HTC UsbToPC, it didn't pop up when i connect USB to PC, but if i running the HTCUsbToPC.exe manually the pop up is showed up.
