View Full Version : Phone volume problem solved

Hi!
I love my Diamond, but it has one big problem - I wasn't able to hear it in noisy environments. I realized, that poor sound is somehow related with AudioPara3.csv file in Windows directory. I made some tests with this file and whoaaa... my phone is quite louder now. Now I wish to share it with you. Unzip the file, overwrite the old file with the new one in the Windows folder (make backup before) and soft reset the device. You must hear the difference.. :)

I didn't test your file yet, I m sure it maye help, but I made some tests with CorePlayer by change the equalizer parameters and got little bit more volume but with distortion ,seems like the main problem is the speaker itself....

AudioPara3.csv file contains volume and gain values for speaker and microphone. I've tested it, and by raising volume values to the maximum - nothing happened, by raising gain values to the maximum- volume is louder. IMO this is maximum, that Diamond's poor speaker can produce. I am satisfied with it, maybe someone can do more tests and get better result.
Btw, all sounds are louder now: ringtone, speakerphone, system volume, music playback, etc.

Could you ask a developer to optimize your work ? For example one of the Rom Cooker cause they might be interested :)
EDIT : I've just tried ! Impressive ! it's too loud ! before i used to listen my song at about 90% now it's more 30% !!!! Could you optimize it so that it's better (not too loud but louder than original in headset mode)

As I will turn down the volume (around 30% )when I'm in office and set a large volume (100%) when I'm in the street, does it will affect this setting and return to the original phone volume in my phone?

I'll explain, how to copy this file:
1. If You don't have, download and install Total Commander from here http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm
2. Make in your internal storage two folders: for example AUDIOPARA_MOD and AUDIOPARA_ORIG
3. Unzip AudioPara3.csv file from attached AudioPara3.zip file
4. Copy this modified AudioPara3.csv file in the AUDIOPARA_MOD folder. You can do it, if you connect your device via USB cable.
5. Make backup of your existing AudioPara3 file: simply copy it from \Windows\ to AUDIOPARA_ORIG folder
6. Copy file from AUDIOPARA_MOD file to your \Windows\ folder, using Total Commander. It will ask you, if you want to overwrite existing file. Answer Yes
7. Close Total Commander and sofreset your device
8. Done :)

No, all volume steps are louder and original setting is back after overwriting modified AudioPara3 file with original AudioPara3 file.

Of course, everyone who know something about audio digitizng and know what does those terms in that file mean, can help. I don't know much, and those terms are something new to me. So, this is only beginning, and I hope someone can achieve much better results, as I can do.

I had change rows, beginning with F1 to F5, F8 to F11, F13 to F22, F25 to F27 and F30 to F34. Replaced the codecRxGain values. There are hex values for every volume step and max volumes. I had raise those values.

In fact it's very good job but when pushing to the max I realize it is breaking the speaker so a lighter boost would be perfect. Could you do that for us ? :):o:o:o
Actually the perfect thing would be:
If X is the volume with your value :
Volume in call = 90% X
Volume with headset = 80% X
Volume of ringtone = 70 % X

I asked in the Niki forum cause i used to have one. I modified our AudioPara.csv with the values of the niki's one (I used a soft that compares files and underline the differences. So I modified the values at the lines tripp mentionned). It results in a poor gain so it's not worthy. Hope tripp will provide use a "Light boost"

My question is not considering this thread, but is somehow in relation with speaker volume...when talking to a person over the phone, his/her voice is somehow full of hiss and not clear at all. When phone skin is disabled you cannot do much about it, but with enabled phone skin, you can adjust the volume of phone speaker (conversation), what solves the problem, but not completely. Even at min. volume, hiss and unclarity exist...at official HTC phone service, they didn't have any troubles, i changed the sim card, and this annoying problem is still there...do any of you, guys have any suggestions or solutions to that matter?
thanks

I have done some tests and only thing I know for now is, that only 2 parameters in AudioPara3 file will affect phone volume. Those parameters are:
F25,CE_PLAYBACK_HEADSET,5,4000,2FFC - 2FFC from here and
F26,CE_PLAYBACK_HANDSFREE,5,4000,5900 - 5900 from here
http://www.hot.ee/saepuru/Audiopara.JPG
This is original, not tweaked file
File can opened from Excel, so everyone can set your own parameters, that makes him happy.
I think there are more possibilities to modify this file and get more better results. But.. I don't have more skills to do those modifications. Maybe there are some people, who know how digital sound is processed and know, what those parameters in that file mean.

this must be easy. if original value is 2FFC (12284 in decimal) and tweaked value is FFFF (65535), then all we have to do i find a compromise between both.
FFFF value is probably the maximum value this parameter accepts (4 bytes), that's why everybody is complaining about the sound being very high.
i'm unable to test this atm because i'm still finding a way to create my "ROM image" with SPB Backup, so if any1 can test this feel free to go.

At max volume surely you'll lost quality because the speaker can't afford it. Plus, I don't use SRS WOW cause i find it useless knowing we can change 3D effect thanks to DIamond Tweak app and have hardware equalizer. With that i have a louder sound that orginal and lighter that tripp's.
Test it if you don't like it go for original one :)

Can anyone plz upload their SPRINT version of the AudioPara3.csv for me please I would be greatly appreciative. Its located in your windows directory folder, if you cant see it, use TotalCommander to browse for it and copy it/send it in an email. You can send it to me at audiopara @ l2devastation.com if you cant upload it to the forum or whatnot

I really need to know if this hack will work on the touch pro
Also, the most important feature I use is speakerphone for calls. Will the loud boost (the first one) really increase the speakerphone volume. I have a Blackberry and their loud speakerphones for phone calls (not music) keeps me wedded to them. Will the Tripp boost discussed here give me a really loud speakerphone for phone calls?
Any help on these two questions will be greatly appreciated as I really wanbt to purchase the touch pro, but have found the volume on HTC phones horrendous in the past

Hi all,
I don't know if it has already been done, but you will find packaged cab files in attachment to simplify the installation of these mods.
Each cab includes :
the copy of the matching level acoustic file AudioPara3.csv (avalaible in the first post, thanks Tripp!) in the Windows folder
the registry modification : HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev\AcousticFile set to the string "windows\AudioPara3.csv"
After installation, you'll have to restart (soft reset) your device.
You could change your sound configuration as you want by installing the cab corresponding to the required level.
If you want to download the All-in-one complete pack (including the 3 cabs in attachment), it's avalaible here : AudioBoostPack.zip (http://www.4shared.com/file/67832085/eb7bfbcd/AudioBoostPack.html)

I dont think its for the in-ear speaker. Its more for listening to mp3 music on the loud speaker.
It would be great if the in-ear speaker is included.

You will blow your speaker without these hacks at max volume, if you play too long.
Edit, maybe not blow it, but it will start to sound really bad...

Please, where (how) do I find the windows directory I should replace the file in?
I was browsing the whole memory but did not found this file :(

I just loaded the cab from page 11 and MonteCristoffon, the middle milder lighter-boost one. Good thing it's milder! My rear speaker kicks at half way now, but I thought this was for the ear piece. I suspect it's the actual speaker.

Can someone make a cab that does the following:
- Reset the back speaker (music, ringtone) to normal volumes or boost it lightly
- Boost the front speaker (that goes to your ear during a call) much more.
I am using the old 1.37 or so O2 rom, if that helps.
I would be very, very grateful.

Okay, so I was reading this thread and was about to install the AudioPara3_lighter_boost.zip when I got to the point where someone mentioned that this does not affect the ear piece volume. Can someone confirm whether this affects the in call ear piece volume?
Also, there's a page where tripp mentions the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev: AcousticFile and that it must be set at AudioPara3.csv. I looked at mine and noticed it's AudioPara4_att_20080703.csv. Also, looking in the Windows directory, I see AudioPara.csv, AudioPara3.csv, and the AudioPara4_att_20080703.csv. The AudioPara.csv is only 11k, but the other two are about the same size. Has anyone compared these two files (I can't connect at the moment)?
Maybe tripp could update the first thread with what this changes (for sure) and a note about the registry (since if people just replace the file, it won't work if it's pointed somewhere else). Or I guess they could just read this post.
Also, has any tried the NueAudio application to toy with these settings? I tried, but I couldn't get it to install for some reason.
I've got the Att FUZE with the stock ROM.

Hi Tripp,
can you please tell me which of the audiopara parameter is responsible for audio level of internal audio recording? I use VITO Audio Notes v1.32 for calls recording and I have a problem with low recording level of others' voice (mine is recorded well). When I switch to Speaker phone, then both levels are recorded accuratelly. Mine as well as caller's voice are at the same level.
If you would be so kind and send me your brief description of each audiopara parameters, I would be very thankful to you.
Otherwise, can you please modify original file from my HTC Touch Diamond P3700, which I have attached to this thread?
Thank you indeed!

Thanks for the files. I installed it but for some reason it was too distorted even with the light booster. I did however like the sound of the earpiece. So what i did was edit the file to just increase the volume level of the earpiece.
These are the only 6 lines I changed (Changes are only made under the rxVolume column)
F12 PHONE_EARCUPLE_VOL0 0 4000 2013 0 656E 2013
F13 PHONE_EARCUPLE_VOL1 1 4000 2013 0 656E 5000
F14 PHONE_EARCUPLE_VOL2 2 4000 4000 0 656E 6000
F15 PHONE_EARCUPLE_VOL3 3 4000 4000 0 656E 7000
F16 PHONE_EARCUPLE_VOL4 4 4000 4000 0 656E 9000
F17 PHONE_EARCUPLE_VOL5 5 4000 4000 0 656E B000
I left VOL0 at 2013 then changed the rest. VOL1 and VOL2 were at 2D4E changed them to 5000 and 6000. VOL3 was set to 4000 changed to 7000, VOL4 was set to 5A67 changed to 9000, and VOL5 was set to 7Fb2 changed to B000. I sort of used the same settings from the light_booster file by leaving the max volume at B000. This sounds great.
Works good. Copy the original AudioPara3 file from your phone to your PC and open with Excel and edit those 5 things then copy it back to your phone using Total Commander to your storage card or a folder in your phones storage.
For those of you having problems copying the file using Total comander, open TC and go to where you have the new AudioPara3.csv file. Once there touch and hold the AudioPara3.csv file until you get the little window that gives you the option to Copy/Move. Select copy/move. It will ask you were you want to copy/move it to. Select Tree button. Now select the WINDOWS folder and then it will ask you if you want to overwrite the file. Click Yes and soft reset. I was having problems figuring out how to copy the file myself with total commander.
Hopefully this is good enough for those of you asking for just the earpeice volume fix.
And of course thanks to the gurus that made this fix available and gave us the ideas. Much appreciated.
And to think I was getting ready to take the phone back because of the low volume. I was even thinking of getting an..... iPhone. Sorry, I didn't mean to say that.

Hi p213crew,
thank you for information you sent to me. I modified the file and just restarted my cellphone. I will test it and let you know the results. Anyway, the reason why I asked about explanation of these parameters is, that I wanted to customize Audiopara file according to my needs:
- increase MIC gain in Speakerphone mode (so other party can clearly hear me in case I'm further from the phone (2-3 meters))
- increase a little bit MIC gain in regular phone mode (the same reason as above)
- increase volume of speaker while talking in Speakerphone mode (this should your tweak solves)
- increase internal audio bus gain (used for recording of calls when other party's voice volume level was too low compare to mine)
- increase a bit ringing volume, but also ensure, that level can be decreased manually by VolUp/VolDown buttons (by applying tweaked Audiopara file, the volume was still too loud even if vloume was decreased manually to minimum)
That's all from my side. So I'm gonna test it and let you know all.
Thank you and have all a nice day!
Cheers,

Now my phone is repairing but I want to increase a ring volume and volume when listening to the music (or watching video) without increasing volume parametres for the speaker which is working during the call!
So can anyone help me here? Does anybody here have original audiopara3 file with increased only Ring volume and Multimedia volume? or can somebody here make it for me? thanks a lot in advance

Iv just recently upgraded to a HTC Touch Diamond from a HTC Trinity (3600) and I think that theres alot of improvements on the Diamond that the Trinity doesn't have such as double the resolution on screen but I have to admit im pretty disapointed with the volume of the Diamond as the Trinity totally beat it with a much higher volume and just as good speaker quality. Im tempted to use this tweak but after hearing that people had blow there speakers I think I'd rather play it safe and leave it alone

Excellent finding guys, Just loaded onto my Diamond, works like a charm. Had little distortion, but if you decrease the level by bit, it works.. I was worried after taking this phone because of poor sound quality.. My initial htc touch(elf) has better sound quality than Diamond. I don't know why HTC decided to reduce the sound quality with new models.

1- Download the AudioPara3.csv file from the first post.
2- Connect your Diamond to your PC and choose the activesync option.
3- Open both "Internal Storage" and your device's main folder in different windows.
4- Copy AudioPara3.csv from your PC to the Internal Storage folder.
5- Now move/copy AudioPara.csv from Internal Storage to your device's /Windows folder; (you will get an overwrite prompt, click yes and you should be done).
6- Soft-reset your device to apply changes.
Note: All file operations described here are to be performed in your computer, not in the device. Also, if you try to overwrite this file directly from your PC, you will get a permission error.
BTW, I'm using Vista x64

AudioPara3.csv file contains volume and gain values for speaker and microphone. I've tested it, and by raising volume values to the maximum - nothing happened, by raising gain values to the maximum- volume is louder. IMO this is maximum, that Diamond's poor speaker can produce. I am satisfied with it, maybe someone can do more tests and get better result.
Btw, all sounds are louder now: ringtone, speakerphone, system volume, music playback, etc.
thx, how can i increase only ringtone volume?

Hey guys this works great and also increases ring volume.
I recommend the lighter boost cab file for ease which is included in page 11 thanks to MonteCristoffOn for cab file and also thanks to Tripp for the main files and for this wonderful thread.
And because of u all my sound is much better now and pls keep your volume to 50% for much clearity and btw lighter boost is much better than full boost as u will have much clarity in voice and no buzzing sound.
And i also have installed advanced configuration and diamond tweak so guys use this soft also to increase volume + lighter boost for much better sound exp.
Thanks for this to xda and members.

Hi, I installed the main booster, which works very well and thank you very much! However, my volume up and down buttons do not alter the volume for an incoming call. When i want to mute it, or put the phone into vibrate mode, my ringtone still sounds. The volume up and down buttons do work in Coreplayer though. Any ideas?
No body has reverted on this, Tripp, if u can help us out. Though phone is sounding quite good, but we can not change volume up and down button in windows media player. If u make it at zero% while song is playing, it still sounds at the same high volume. You can not change it at all. If u can plz help us out

Dunno if this is still relevent but with some minor cuts and tweaks i managed to fit the speaker from an nokia 5200B (best sounding oem speaker imo) into the touch diamond together with Diamond Tweak 0.5.3 sound tweaks, made the 3700 sound 300% better. I Had no camera to record the procedure at the time, but if you can find a nokia 5200 for spare parts and follow this guide somehow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lJoelghkH8 you can squeeze the speaker in.
edit: i can take some pictures tho of the final result.

In my windows folder, the only audiopara file I can find is

Ok, this doesn't work for me. I used total commander. I've tried both the light boost and the full boost. I pressed 'overwrite' (choices were 'overwrite', 'overwrite all' and 'overwrite older') and I soft reset each time. Absolutely no voulme difference, full volume on full boost exactly the same as the factory default volume. What am I doing wrong? :(

I have done some tests and only thing I know for now is, that only 2 parameters in AudioPara3 file will affect phone volume. Those parameters are:
F25,CE_PLAYBACK_HEADSET,5,4000,2FFC - 2FFC from here and
F26,CE_PLAYBACK_HANDSFREE,5,4000,5900 - 5900 from here
http://www.hot.ee/saepuru/Audiopara.JPG
This is original, not tweaked file
File can opened from Excel, so everyone can set your own parameters, that makes him happy.
I think there are more possibilities to modify this file and get more better results. But.. I don't have more skills to do those modifications. Maybe there are some people, who know how digital sound is processed and know, what those parameters in that file mean.
I'm confused. I opened the LIGHT BOOST audiopara3.csv in excel, and it has the exact same values (2FFC and 5900) as the original, ie, same as in your screenshot. So how have members here been able to hear a volume increase?
I've tried both modded files, and currently have the full boost one installed. It has apparently overwritten the original because I copied it back from the phone's windows folder to my pc and opened it in excel to check the values and it's showing FFFF, ie, the full boost values. Neither work, music and videos and sat nav sounds are not louder.
Is this fix meant to increase volume for everything on the phone, including sat nav voices and videos? Or just phone calls? It's all very vague.

I have an idea for this problem. My story is:
I Bought a Jabra BT620s for my HTC Diamond. When I listen to music in A2DP it was quiet. I started to tweak the A2DP, the google is my best friend :). I spent - F*ck - a lot of time with SRS WOW HD, with Advanced Config ect.
Now, its my resolve: AudioPara3_lighter_boost.zip + Advanced Config Tool + CONDUTIS POCKET PLAYER 4.1!! You can use DSP plugins - 4 example bass boost, treble boost, variable boost, peak boost ect. You can set freq. for every boost for your BT headset for your music style for maximum performance!! I dont use EQ in Condutis, only DSP plugins, it works FINE. My headset is now loud, I hear now real bass loud:)
In the Advanced config I use bitpool max 70, min 20, with very high bitpool settings with 3D sound level very high. I think in the future must uninstall the AudioPara3_lighter_boost because I heard distors noise sometime.
PS.: The SRS WOW HD is a very very unstable app. Sometimes I cant started my phone - display - Its very intresting because my phone - I think - turned off, but I can manually soft reset. Its interesting.
The audiopara its very usefull, but not enough signle for the good music quality. Its only preamp the sound with little distors noise. Every time to try music in my phone used S2P, but now - I think - solved the low volume promlem in my diamond with condutis pocket player.
Anybody try Condutis pocket player 4.1 with DSP plugins?
If anybody solve the problem with noise distors level in condutis, please write a post with DSP plugin settings here!
You can find the Condutis pocket player here:

I have tried all these mods and they kill my speakerphone everytime. I can barely hear it. However, the earpiece sounds great. I am using a Att Fuze. Any idea why this would happen?
I have diamond tweak installed and had changed the volume settings (ie 100db limit) before but have reverted when trying these mods; still no good. Any help would be extremely appreciated.

Hi all,
I was starting to play around with the bluetooth parts in the audiopara files, but it does not help me at all =(. For the speaker it worked but not for the BT music parts.
Do I have to add a BT device specific line in that file (like for the Motorola s9) and can please s.o. tell me, which each column means?

Okay...I got it. Just replaced earpiece lines in code. The attachment will increase your earpiece volume leaving speakerphone alone.
Thing is, I think there are a gazillion versions out there. Depending on Rom version, I had low volume, no change or no sound at all. The cabs that this Ricky-dude made worked on every version I had so far - but I guess even that could be phone specific.
Then again, some people don't even complain about the volume. It seems to be a problem related to a few Diamonds, not all.
Basically, there is no solution for everybody.
We could collect all the different cabs in a post, if we had the time that is.

I have Sprint Touch Pro - with Mighty ROM 6 (Windows 6.5) on it.
I had tried using one of the audiopara files... Badboy fixes available on PPCGeek.
it improved the incall speakerphone volume quite a bit.
But the volume of apps like Youtube, WM player, mp3 ringtones etc.. while on speakerphone (loudspeaker mode) is still pathetic.
Please let me know if there is updated fix available that fixes voulme on these apps too while on speakerphone (loudspeaker mode)
