Help I bricked my Magician

Hi,

I accidentally bricked my magician by trying to upgrade a damaged ROM.
Now I am not able to use the mtty.exe to get the backup of ROM on my SD Card. (256 MB)
First of all when I connect my Magician to the PC via USB with SD card inserted - i get the error message "USB Device not recognized" message. I took out the SD card, reconnected to PC and then inserted the SD card back in, started mtty.exe and typed d2s, my Magician's screen goes blank without any progress showing and mtty.exe does not appear to do anything.

Whenever I try to start my Magician - I'm stuck at SERIAL/USB 1.02 Bootloader screen.
I took out the battery, connected my magician to PC and inserted the batter - the magician now boots but gets stuck at I-Mate Splash Screen.
In this state, it can however connect to ActiveSync and I can browse the contents of Phone, Storage and Storage Card at this moment.

Can someone help me in fixing this issue? Much appreciated.

I managed to start my Magician, but still it is not working properly.

At the I-Mate splash screen, I connected it to my PC, went to \Windows folder >> went to Startup folder. I removed everything from there, restarted my Magician - it automatically went into the bootloader mode (the main issue that i'm facing) I took out the battery from it, while it was connected to PC and reinserted it back quickly. Now it is up and running again, but I can't flash it using USB now, everytime I try to do so - it restarts and sits in the Bootloader mode. I think my bootloader is not allowing me to flash my device.

Can I reflash my bootloader? If yes, then please can someone let me know the detailed procedure?

Id get the stock Rom and the No_id rom programmer thing, then use the no_id thing to update the rom while its in boot-loader mode..Oh and i find it helps to reboot my PC and swap to a differant USB port on the pc aswell

What I think is my Bootloader is damaged, it is not allowing me to flash any ROM. I can bypass the bootloader by taking out the battery while it is connected to the PC (the LED goes red when I take out the battery) and then reinsert the battery. Following this process, it does not goto the Bootloader screen, rather it loads the Windows. But when I soft reset it gets stuck at the Bootloader again.

Some of the files in \Windows folder are also corrupt and I am not able to flash my magician to replace them.

Can anyone give the steps to flash the bootloader - I have the bootloader.bin image from another Magician, but do not know how to flash it. plz help.

Hi, I downloaded the drivers and installed them on my PC, still I can't flash my mobile. Could you let me know how exactly to use these drivers as I might have done something wrong.

I'd suggest you start testing the device with the stock ROM image (from t-mobile or clubimate's website). This incudes the radio ROM and the extended ROM as well.

Open your device manager (right-click on MY COMPUTER and select MANAGE) then right-click on your PPC hardware, select UPDATE DRIVER. Browse to where you unzipped the drivers, and select WCEBUSH. (Driver is now successfully installed).

Manually place your phone in bootloader mode, then start the RUU update (using the NO_ID version). It should complete with no problems.

I'm still thinking about the soloution. Your phone can enter bootloader, so its not a paperweight just yet. Give me another day or two to make a beter suggestion.

What I did was tried to upgrade my 2.03 TX ROM to 2.06 which I later discovered that was a Himalayan ROM. Maybe that helps.

Also I think that the bootloader screen on my cellphone is a bit different than it was previously (when my device was working fine) I think there was a faded rectangle behing the "Serial" and "1.02" text which is not there anymore.

We'll soon have to post some MTTY.exe commands, so that you can execute "task 28" (erase the disk-on-chip ROM). I'm tryi to unbrick my Charmer as well, so we are almost in the same boat.

The easiest soloution, woud be for me to 'make and give you' my SD ROM image. This means that we'd have to have SD cards of the same exact size. The only card I have, is 512MB in size (so you know I'd be sending you a 512MB attachment). You'd then use either NTRW.exe or PSDWRITE to write it back to your SD card (of exactly same size).



Finally you insert the card in your phone, go into bootloder mode.

Press the required key, and your phone is flashed with the ROM from my phone.


NB: Lets not go this far, just yet. The procedure has a ~99% success rate, but its not easy for me to send such a large attachment to you on my internet connection (except if we were on an instant messenger).

hmmmm, the SD card won't be a problem for me as I can easily get the SD card of any size, but the problem would be in uploading and downloading the image. Do we have any other alternate?

I have no problem using that service. The problem is that the RAW ROM image, isn't being read by PSDREAD or NTRW.exe (so I can be able send it to you by any means).


Give me a few hours, and I'll get the extracted ROM for you.

If I got your SD card, I could 'backup' my ROM to it, and ship the card back to you.
This wouldn't be practical, since I'm in Jamaica.

We are still working on a soloution for you.

At the terminal, type "r2sd all" (don't copy and past, you must type this manually).

It'll then overwrite the contents of you SD card with a RAW ROM image of your unit.




NB: In your case, it doesn't make sense to make a backup of a bricked ROM.
What you will be doing, is restoring my clean ROM instead.

I was trying the same procedure some weeks ago on my bricked magician and it was not working, so I was just wondering weather I was doing it correctly or not?

My bootloader is not allowing me to install any ROM. I have tried Taxist's ROM as well using the No_ID program.

I already tried this method, but the ntrw.exe was not able to write the image file onto my SD card. However, I'll give it a try one more time and let you know the results.

btw can I use the 512 MB SD card for to write this image?

Yes, you can use any size SD card, although I believe you may definately want to try the 64MB card (instead of stuffing the remaining space with NULL characters).

I backed up the ROM of my frnd's magician onto my SD card but when I put in the card into my magician, I do not see the option to flash no matter weather I plug it into power or usb. Plz suggest.

This means that the ROM headers were copied as well.

This becomes tricky, since you'll no longer be using
r2sd all
in MTTY.exe again.

I don' know the terminal command for the process. You'll have to look in the service manual for it.

hollo any one tell me when i format my sd card by card reader which one format i need to do with (fat) or (fat32) plz tell me ...becoz i format my card with fat32 and write the downloaded sdcard.img on it and put in i mate but i didnt see any flash option plz pzl do some thing for us

I'd suggest you use FAT instead of FAT32 (it doesn't matter since an new header will be written anyway).


I keep forgetting that your unit doesn't boot any at all. In that case, I don't have a solotion for you (besides using a JTAG). A more experiienced member, will provide an answer for you.
