View Full Version : Wheel-2-Unlock is UNDER DEVELOPEMENT!!!

EDIT: UNDER DEVELOPEMENT AND WILL BE RELEASED WHEN READY! KEEP AN EYE ON THIS THREAD!!!!

Here's an idea... when you turn your phone off, it locks... when you turn it on, you must roll your thumb/finger to the right around the wheel of the diamond to unlock it...

as you wheel around, the white line around the circle begins to fill from the top, moving rightward around...

sorry for the poor image quality, i just threw it together as a thought.

I hope a developer can throw this together, prolly isn't hard at all and would really be cool for the diamond. Better graphics and glowing line ofcourse.

its simple and utilizes the unique hardware of the diamond, and also the pro.

anyone like?

anyone down to try and create it?

Wish i could, but i have no idea where to start. i'm in the dark here. :(

to clear up any confusion that may come up, the lights on the wheel itself don't need to light up as you wheel around... only the circle on the screen.

as you would pass a point on the wheel, another section of the ring on the screen would fill in.

Sounds like a good idea. Hope someone have the time to make it.

im sure that 'wheel-2-unlock' is one of the features of the TouchXperience ROM but it would take a long time for this rom to be released i guess.

Sounds like a good idea - I posted something very like it in the AnswerKeys Disabler thread a few weeks ago! :D

Glad someone has the skills to make it happen!

I am working on such an idea already for a week or so:

CapacitiveFingerLock.

It will have another locking/unlocking mechanism on top of StylusLock (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426730), as described in this post:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2681112&postcount=62

Because I am now on a business trip in America, I had not much time to work on the program. But I haven proven already that it works. I have to remove some stuff from the proven program, and integrate it with my already existing StylusLock. The goal is that it does NOT cost extra battery power and CPU and is really simple to use.

The reason to add this, is to have it possible to lock and unlock "one handed". The StylusLock approach cannot be done "one handed", e.g. on a bike. Also some people do not like to operate with the StylusLock. The combination with this new CapacitiveFingerLock and existing StylusLock will suit more people. And sometimes people will use the Stylus, so they will get the right behaviour depended on the usage.

Good idea, as I do not use any locks or such applications, but this one sounds nice. Just remember that this app should not conflict with, or somehow overcover and incomming call :-p

Woohoo, I've been asking for such a thing for weeks now. Do you have a working version already?
That would be awesome.

Definitely MUCH MUCH better than SensorLock and all the - no need to mention - rest!
Especially because SensorLock is still buggy as hell!

I was asking about how to program it even more time ago, as posted here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428525

And yes, I found the Sensor Test stuff from http://www.scottandmichelle.net/scott/comments.html?entry=786

That I am using as basis, without using the GSENSOR, only using the NavSensor. I do not want to use the GSENSOR, because it uses more CPU and as such also more battery.

I hope I can find time to accelerate thinks to have a working version, suitable for try outs. However, it does not make much sense to post too early, if it is not complete enough yet, because it should work as promised

Actually, the first version of StylusLock 1.0 was working welll, only missed some features I added later. And as usual I will post then also the source code, so others can use ideas for other type of applications. Or even spot bugs and help me out. Especially, although an experienced programmer, I am new to Windows Mobile programming. Have to do this in my spare time.

why not just keep it simple?
when yer phone is locked its a black curtain (to accomodate tf3d)
when u wanna unlock.. slide the finger up.. curtains up..
unlock

but it sounds just like s2u2? haha but i really am just looking for a simple app.. with nice GUI of cuz...

ok its jus another idea.. im just worried if its too complicated, some buggy app gets developed.. i jus wan to lock and unlock with ease... and ya no gsensor please.. i dun really trust accelerometers when it comes to lock/unlock

the idea was to make it use the diamond and pro's unique hardware wheel

any option is fine as long as it work
outcome matters more than the means to achieve it

Well, the developer has been chiming in over at ppcgeeks and has mentioned that he might have an alpha ready by today... so lets hope we get one today or tomorrow!

here's that thread http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=38805

primary dev is Rainfreak... props to him, give him a thanks if you are appreciative

Just a question: is it also possible to answer/reject calls (rotating on the right/left side) with this alpha version?

Re: Wheel-2-Unlock UNDER DEVELOPEMENT!!!
Update:

Ok, where do I start? I got it working enough to install last night and thought that I had made some real progress. As soon as it was done installing I started the Configuration and it worked flawlessly. Things were looking good. Then I closed the Configuration and opened the app and it did not work. Damn. So then I started troubleshooting and a couple of hours later figured this much out:

1. It will run if you deactivate TF3D (not cool, I like and use TF3D).
2. It does not always unlock the device, even if you complete the circle (graphic changes to denote it has been unlocked but it does not actually unlock, very frustrating. requires a soft reset to bypass lock at this point).
3. It drained the hell out of my battery (about 60% loss in one hour while it only ran in the background and I was reviewing my code on my PC).

I worked on the code for a little longer, trying to fix the issues that I had found. I tried another version and guess what I got for my trouble? A hard reset. That was about the time when I said "F this thing" and went to bed. I will try working on it more tonight when I get home from my meeting after work (I volunteer at the local juvenile detention center), if I am in the right frame of mind for programming. Otherwise it will have to wait until tomorrow evening.

All in all I am closer than ever but believe me when I say that it is no where close to being ready for any kind of release. I like all of you too much to offer a free, customizable hard reset app to you

Hi,

I really appreciate the efforts to come up with a cool and nice locking program.

in the mean time, does anyone know if it's possible to tweak some registry setting so it requires a press and hold of couple seconds on either the ANSWER or IGNORE button for the function to act?

thanks,
RJ

I really hope that it will block screen during an incoming call and sms - almost exactly like default Auto Lock (there are problems with excluding Auto Lock from GSen - screen is rotated and I don't like it)
Excluding wheel-2-unlock shouldn't be a problem ;)

yeah, its true... poor guy, he's not in his 20's or anything and has had some back surgery that may have gone bad again.

So what is the status of Wheel-2-Unlock?

hays
7th November 2008, 02:25 AM
While I appreciate it's not using the wheel, Pocketshield is very good - it uses the light sensor or you can scroll your finger down the screen to unlock

Small and light program, only $10 and available now for those deperate people !

So what is the status of Wheel-2-Unlock?

I am feeling a little better and am very excited about some new ideas that I had for this app while I took my hiatus for health reasons. I have a very busy work schedule (50-60 hours per week minimum) but I have decided to pick this project up again starting tomorrow after work.

I am hopeful that I can knock out a beta release in the next week or two. Once I release the beta I wil post a link for it here as well.
