I am facing some issue on uploading the WM6.5 ROMs to my ELFin.. I download the "NFSFAN's WM6.5 1.00 FINAL ROM", unzip it to my PC. Connect my HTC, ActiveSync it then i click on ROMUpdateUtility.

On the 4th screen, it show me that my current image version is 3.14.706.02 and will update to 1.00.6_5.ROM, i click Next again for 2 times then it ready to update.

Everything is working fine, my phone screen also change to tricolor, the status bar also running. But my phone will be restart after 1% complete. My PC will show me "Error [270] : UPDATE ERROR The image file is corrupted. Please check your Update Utility."

What can i do or i have miss out something?

Thanks.

Yeah I sold my wife's pre and connected this touch back up to sprint but now my internet wont work after a hard reset. I think I need a sprint cab to enable internet.

I had an old one on the computer but it didn't work. I get error 67 username password not validated.

Which cab will work sprint to give me internet?

i think they are all fully functional android roms here, you can even flash them to nand. look at the vogue android section and pick one. personally id go with froyo. i didn't mean to bash this winmo rom but it hasn't been updated for almost a year now.

I just flashed to NFSFAN's 6.5 ROM from the stock VZW 6.1 and I love it, minus the one reoccuring problem (which according to searches isn't normal on this ROM and doesn't have much info on it).

It works good, but then suddenly no programs will open, instead it will show this message when I try to open any program:
Cannot open '___'. A critical component is either missing or cannot start because program memory is unavailable. Tap Start > Settings > System tab > Task Manager, stop programs that did not automatically stop, and try again.

A critical componant can't be missing for EVERY program, and besides, all the programs worked before.
As it goes, Task Manager doesn't open of course (no message this time, just highlights as if the icon were clicked), and there are only a few settings that do open.
The memory setting shows that I have 50.97 MB of free RAM (Program Memory), more than enough to open any program, over 50% free.

A soft reset does temporarily solve it, but like I said, this happened a few times already with no apparent cause.
Any fixes? Or is it best to reflash it?

edit: I think this was due to a certain small lock program that I installed to be able to lock the phone automatically. I uninstalled it and have not had the problem since.
With that said, this is a great ROM. Besides Manilla using up more RAM than normal (which was expected), there is one quirk that bothers me: on the QWERTY keyboard, some of the symbols are in a different location when you press the symbol button (i.e. the question mark is normally behind "k", but after pressing the symbol button, it is moved two spots to the right) which is just bad design by HTC

fresh froyo for a plain experience. I don't think usb tethering is supported in out kernel atm. mms is carrier specific and sprint's a @##&$^. But give it a shot before you nix the idea - you can always flash back. Or you can try android through haret if you don't want to flash.

These cabs didn't restore my loss of internet after ROM upgrade.
Dialer skin appeared once, then old Windows dialer skin returned after reboot.

On the Touchflo Home tab how do I get rid of the section similiar to the attached pic where it says "Tap to update weather"? I didn't bother to try to get it working because my location does not exist in the data base and could not be found using AccuWeather.com city search so I would just like to remove it. Thanks!

Hi,
I just installed this ROM on my XV6900 and it works real smooth! awesome job!!
Some problems I encountered:

1) I am unable to setup 2 ActiveSync server accounts. I setup my google account, and then added my outlook work account. THis replaced my google one.
2) The launcher in Manila2D has icons overlapping the text.
3) the Manila2D weather cities editor is not able to find my city. Gives some error about checking my internet connection (which is working fine).

I couldnt find any solutions to these questions, this thread has become rather long! Can anyone help me with this??

crd22

Hi,

2) The launcher in Manila2D has icons overlapping the text.

This is the only one I can help you with because it's the only one I've seen.
Settings>System>Manila2D Customizer>Restore>Restore M2D Settings
I don't know why the vertical spacing gets messed up when you change the launcher settings (i.e. the number in each row and column), but it'll get compressed vertically, covering the text, for all launcher settings combination, even if you try to set it back to its default setup 3 columns x 6 rows.
I'm sure there's some XML out there which contains the spacing and such, but I don't know where it is.

Frankly, the Manila Launcher is just for my select few favorite programs, so I just keep that as default.
Here's my suggestion:
Download one of the cabs from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=535725) so that your Start Menu can have 4,5, or 6 icons across, greatly increasing the functionality of the start menu and making it more useful than Manila's Launcher.

Ok, here goes, Im running Nfsfan's 6.5 release. I just reflashed it the other day as I thought maybe a fresh install might fix the issue. My gps was only working half the time. I never had outgoing mms working but finnally cleared that up with the dcd cabs and now my internet sharing and mms works like a charm! I cannot get the gps working whatever I do. Ive read somewhere that VZW shut down agps so Ive been running regular gps. It worked before I reflashed half the time. I really dont care about the agps. Regular gps worked fine for me. Ive checked all the settings such as enabled locations and whatnot. My radio version shows 3.37.10. Ive seen that other carriers are using 3.42.30. Could this be my problem and if so, can the radio be upgraded without flashing a new rom? Sorry, Im pretty sure this has been covered before and is a complete newb question. I just cant find any of the info Im looking for and the wiki had been down for quite some time.

You can flash the radio with flashing the ROM. I have done it & I didn't even have to provision my phone. I don't think the radio has anything to with it. What network are you on anyway? If you are on VZW then try installing the GPS provisioning cab from this page.

I would suggest NOT using the GPS cab from that thread. It's for a Touch Pro, not a Vogue. All it got me was an unusable phone, all menus were 'smeared' and were impossible to read or use. I had to hard reset my phone and reload everything.
The steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=533639 worked to get the GPS on my VZW Vogue working.

I'm not sure what that one is, I think it might be the VZW carrier cab from the first post of this thread.
When you get to step 6 of theoneownz thread just follow the first post of this thread(nfsfans) and everything should work (dowload and install the rom, the mms fix and the vzw carrier cab).
To update the radio, download the 3.42.50 radio from egzthunders faq that is stickied at the top of the forum and use the micro sd method to install it.
When you say gps works only half of the time, are you giving it enough time? Sometimes it takes a few minutes to get a fix. Mine always works, it just takes a while sometimes.

I was getting sats outside half the time before I flashed again. I tried using the valhalla cab last night, I'm seeing one sat in GPS viewer but it never locks. It sits there for a while and then disappears completely. I reflashed mr1 last night then reflashed 6.5 to get the radio up to 3.37.78, Ill try the other radio today and see what happens. Its funny, google maps initializes the gps then searches for sats forever with nothing coming up, when it did work before the flash, it used to get anywhere up to 5-7 sats even inside. Oh, its a Verizon phone, if that helps at all. I can get mms working fine now. Ive tried all the different reg edits I could find to no avail. I truly appreciate you guys helping me with this old phone!

Is there an Android rom with the tether hack for Bell mobility users?

The only Winmo ROMs with the safe tethering hack are NFSFAN's and Vin's. Vins are newer builds if you want to give that a go.

For Android, Pdanet is free on the Android market, use it for tethering. This can be used with any ROM.

If you get a Desire (Telus, can be unlocked and used on Bell), or wait for the Desire Z (Bell) Froyo has wireless hotspot built in.

If I upgrade the ROM, do I use the CDMA Dialer and GPS Positioning CABs which NSFAN recommended in the first few posts?

Does the upgrade change my factory radio?

This is a reliable, stable ROM. The only thing is NFSFAN has stopped development, or developing altogether. This ROM will not be updated or supported the the OP.

This will not upgrade your radio, as long as your radio is 3.x (gps) your good to go.

For most questions see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=508544

For the dialer answer, I'll direst you to the dialer write up in the FAQ written by your truly:

NFSFAN Dialers
(Written By Jmitr)
NFSFAN has 2 different ROM’s available for our Vogues.
1. Windows Mobile 6.1
2. Windows Mobile 6.5

Both of these ROMS use different dialers, these are listed below:
1. WM 6.1 ROMS GSM Dialer
This dialer is one of the newer ones available.
It features slide to anwser/ignore and other features.
To go into this dialer first I have to list the issues
with GSM dialers on CDMA phones.

• 911 and number codes usually do not work
• Data sessions. In most gsm dialers the data is always active. This causes quite a battery drain

NFSFAN has managed to fix these problems to an extent.
911 works, phone codes cannot be directly dialed but are
found in a folder under systems.
The data is NOT always active,
however the data arrows are “broken” or greyed out.
2. WM 6.5 CDMA Dialer
This is basically the same as the stock dialer that came with your phone.
It may not be “as pretty” as the gsm dialer,
but everything works just like stock.
This is the reason that you will no longer find the
phone codes folder in the 6.5 ROM as there is no need for it.

It is possible to skin a dialer and add colour etc.
This changes the appearance of the dialer
without actually installing a different dialer.
Some people have installed newer dialers in the 6.5 ROM as well.
Just remember the issues with gsm when you do.
You may find your battery depletes quickly (data issue)
or 911 doesn’t work (BAD if you figure that out when you need it!!)

qanda6900
2nd November 2010, 11:51 PM
jmitr,

Thank you. I use 6.1/CDMA, so I guess everything should work as 6.5/CDMA dialer which is ok.
I am fine with NSFAN's ROM if it is relialbe and stable. Further development is not necessary.
I am sure that members here can help with any issues.
Stay well.

I am fine with NSFAN's ROM if it is relialbe and stable. Further development is not necessary.

The one last development that I think we could wish for, would be the creation of a final version with removal of some programs which are obsolete (but which can cause problems with upgrades to newer versions). Programs like Google Maps (working, but outdated) and Microsoft MyPhone are examples. Generally, independently functioning programs are fine, but client stuff that connects to a cloud somewhere causes problems.

It sounds like something the end-user could potentially do themselves with a Kitchen, but I've tried messing with them, and just can't seem to figure it out.

qanda6900
3rd November 2010, 03:00 PM
Unfortunately, I don't know where NSFAN has disappeared in cyber space.
I guess with the advent WinMo7, many chiefs are holding back to see if 7 is better.

how exactly do u install the MMS CAB? im so confused!

Installing any CAB file is a simple matter. Normally, you use active sync to transfer the file from your PC (which is where it is usually downloaded) to the device in any location you choose (as long as you remember where you put it. :D)
Next, go to the device and find the CAB file. Double click on the CAB file. It will unpack and install the files to wherever they need to go.
Once the CAB has run, you can delete the file or leave it where it is.

Another way to get the CAB on the device is to have it download directly to the device via internet. (That option depends on where the CAB resides. Most sites offer direct-to-device downloads but not all.)

QA :)

Flashed recently using NFSFAN's Final 6.5 ROM and it is running very stable.
The Vogue IS A SLEEPING GIANT!

Since flashing to NFSFAN's Final 6.5 ROM, I have no voice dialing capability.
I have the Voice Command enabled in settings, and the screen says "Voice Command waiting" . but nothing else happens when I speak except a "blurp" after a few seconds.

Q: Is there a fix to get this function to work. It is really an important option for me since I use Bluetooth most of the time while driving.
(The police also like giving out cute little pieces of paper when they see you holding anything resembling a phone while driving)

A word of caution re: PRL updates:
I used a Sprint Profile and PRL update CAB from PPC Geeks. In addition to update the PRL (Roaming list), it will install two small programs called Update Profile and Update PRL into the Start/Systems menu. DO NOT USE THE FUNCTION TO UPDATE PROFILE OR PRL.

It can (and did with me) changed all the device and data connection settings. I lost all data and internet capability. Sprint could not fix the issue since the iinternal MSL code (identifies the type of device) had been changed and none of their codes worked. LEAVE THE ICON ALONE IN START/SYSTEMS menu. The only way to remedy the issue, was to do a hard reset. :(

Thanks.

Maybe if a bunch of you guys ask NFSFAN nicely, he'll upload his kitchen since it's been so long, and I can't imagine he'll pickup this project again.

That would be really great, because to this day, this ROM is still the best for the vogue.

I have only ever ran android off my sd using Haret.exe so i have some questions.

Is this rom really stable?
How often do people brick their phones whats the likelihood I will?
Can i easily go back to 6.1 by installing the 6.1 bell upgrade like i did from 6 then will it be locked and normal just like if it had never ever been flashed just went up to 6.1 once?
How much better is 6.5?
What is and what is not functional?
Will i be charged extra by bell?

I have a VOGU100 on bell with the Fun 15 bundle (which includes unlimited internet).

You will find NFSFAN's 6.5 ROM on the first page of this thread. Be sure to download the carrier CABs for your cellphone carrier.

As for an SIP, if you Google "HTC Keyboard Arabic", you should come up with many that will work with the 6.5 rom.

May I recommend that you read the posts in these threads as well. They are excellent guides to flashing, and I find them easier to follow:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592964

MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR CDMA DEVICES, NOT GSM OR YOU WILL BRICK (freeze) YOUR DEVICE !

With Ruu's it is incredibly easy to flash back to Bell's 6.1. winmo 6.5 is way more finger friendly, and this ROM includes Manila 2.0 in it. If you have heard of HTC's famous "sense" UI, this is an early iteration.

No extra charges by Bell, as a former Bell user (same plan as you) this ROM is one of the few "tether safe" ROM's out there. Bell cannot tell you are tethered (just don't tether up and go torrent crazy, they may just figure that data spike out!!!)

This is still the most stable ROM release out there for windows mobile 6.5. If your a fan of 6.1, NFSFAN's final 6.1 build is the most solid 6.1 build released, and much faster than the 6.5 version. People who claim 6.5 is fast forget how smoking 6.1 really was.

I'm having connection problems today when all was well on the Go Train last night.

Where can I find the latest Ruu ROM?

Is this the one?

Many thanks.

EDIT:

I just flashed back to the Bell ROM on Bell's website and internet browsing worked. I moved back to the NFSFAN ROM several times and I can't do mobile browsing anymore. I don't download huge files but usually just browse the internet when tethered.

Yesterday, it was likely my first time to use bluetooth PAN to connect. Could this have been the reason? I usually use USB (cabled) to tether.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks knarly. That's what I needed. I honestly don't know what to do for the tethering as I've never used that feature. Bell has obviously done something to block any data connection that isn't using their radio. If you do get it to tether, I would be cautious with the amount of data being transfered, at least until after the next bill.

Hey all!

THIS MAY BE THE SOLUTION for those who are experiencing Internet connectivity problems since a couple of days with Bell (NFSFAN ROM).

YOU MAY NOT NEED TO REFLASH YOUR DEVICE or reinstall any Radio Versions or whatever.

JUST TRY THIS FIRST :
1. Go to Settings, Connections and click on Connections Icon
2. Click on "Manage existing connections"
3. Click on Edit... for the Bell Mobility connection
4. Click Next, Next and then Advanced button
5. Go to the "Servers" tab
6. Change this option : put it to "Use server-assigned addresses"
(You can note on a paper your DNS and Alt DNS numbers in case, cause it will be deleted after).
7. click ok. Click Finish.
8. Try to connect.
9. Surf the Internet !!!
10. Take a beer after so much energy finding this problem....

Hope it will do the job for you!!

I am using the NSFan 6.1 BELL ROM and he had the DNS set to OPENDNS, since it is a very good DNS service. I still do not see why using the DNS settings do no longer work??? Anyone know the reason??? Will we be able to tether an HTC Touch/Vouge to an iPad 2? Anyone tried this?

Many thanks.

There's no wifi on the vogue, so if you could do anything it would have to be over usb or Bluetooth.

Thanks for your response mrkite. Tethering to Windows XP or 7 computers via BT is fine but so far no luck with the iPad (tested at Bestbuy here in Canada) as it justs says my HTC Touch is not compatible.

I'll try the USB route the next time I pay Bestbuy a visit.

Kind regards.

I have been fighting with the bluetooth connectivity on the 6900 for a while. got any tips? I've loaded several ROMs and none seem to resolve the bluetooth issue. I can scan for, see and add it, but it won't let me setup a com port or network to the device. I have the NFSFAN ROM on it now with the Alltel Radio.

Anybody been successfully able to tether their Vogues/Touches to Playbooks?

My carrier is bell and the tethering always drop when the Playbook tries to acquire an IP address.

I read up on this and RIM says the smartphone must have DUN (dial-up networking). Currently, I only have USB and Bluetooth PAN.

Under Bluetooth connections > Settings > Profiles, I can see DUN (dial up networking profile) but I can't seem to initiate a BT DUN as the only available connections in the drop down menu are USB and Bluetooth PAN.

Any thoughts?

My entire house has internet wifi connection from a bridged router connected via ethernet to a XP computer that has a windows network connection bridge between my Vogue's NDIS USB and computer's network card.

Always had dropped connections every couple of minutes with vista and windows 7 tethering directly. Found NDIS drivers for XP, made an internet bridge and connection now lasts at least a few days to a week!

This comes in handy since my location can only connect to internet via dialup or satellite.

Not the fastest, but 1.5mbs is far better than dialup, and we have 2 laptops, iphone, ereader, and android phone all connected to it with wifi.
