Hi folks, ...

first of all .... sorry for my bad english.

I own and use my T-Mobile MDA-II for several years now - but there is still the old Software on it:
- Rom-Version 1.72.01GER Date:03/16/04
- Radio-Version: 1.17.00
- ExtROM-Version: 1.72.170).

Now I plan to update it to the latest Rom from sun_dream (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428187) or (for me even better) the german Version from dkamin (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413992).

After I read a lot of Postings here in this great Forum, I feel like a real noob - because I still cannot figure out what exactly I have to do. :(
I try to explain my Problems in a few questions:

1. Are all my Data will be saved by Active-Sync (exspecially the Phone-Adressbook) ???
As far as I understood, all my Data which is on the MDA will be lossed during a Rom-Update. So I've installed Active Sync 4.0 and backed up all the Data i can backup with it. (for any reason, the German Version of Active Sync 4.2, which I have downloaded from M$ does not work, so I've used an english 4.0 Version).
BUT - after I've checked the Data which has been saved by Active-Sync I was not able to find my Phonebook-Data. Does Active Sync NOT backup Adress- and Contactinformation of the MDA-Phone ?!?!?
And if so ... is there a possibility to save my Adressbook before updating the rom?

2. What to do with the Files within the ZIPs from sun_dream (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428187) or dkamin (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413992).
I downloaded the latest official T-Mobil Rom-Update (https://after-sales-service.t-mobile.de/eg_online/t-mobile/t_mda_2.htm) to get a Rom-Update-Software. After unpacking the Exe-file I endet up with the following files:

HimaClearJumpCode.exe
HimaGetDeviceData.exe
HimaUpgradeUt.exe
ms_.nbf
Nk.nbf
Radio_.nbf
Because there is a Nk.nbf in the new ZIP-file from sun_dream (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428187) or dkamin (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413992), I think I just have to replace the original Nk.nbf file with the newer once and run HimaUpgradeUt.exe. Is that right ???

BUT - what about the other *.nbf-Files, like ms_.nbf and Radio_.nbf ??? What about them?

3. Which ROM-Version you whould recommend me to use?
The Version from sun_dream (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428187) or the German-Version from dkamin (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413992)?
Is dkamins (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413992) Version as stable and as good as sun_dreams (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428187)?

4. What's about "Manila 2D" or "Touch Flo 2D"?
I've read some Posts, that some users run Manila 2D (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2717840&postcount=71) on their MDA. After I've seen some Videos at YouTube about Manila 2D i think it's a really great UserInterface.
Could someone explain me how I can get this great UserInterface for my MDA-II and what I have to do to install it?

Sorry for all these questions. I really tried to read me into this .... but I did not find the Information I needed (or better: ... I understood).

Thanks for any kind of Help.

A little MDA-Noob.

@Rudegar, ...

thanks a lot for the quick answer.

After I sync with Outlook, I'm still missing some Contact-Fields which where not synced (like: "Tel.2 privat" and others).
Is there any chance to save (or sync) the data in these fields as well?

[Edit-2:] Does the Build-In XBackup saves all the Contacts and SMSes as well (could not find any Information about this)?

try PIMBackup (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705), it should do all you require.

@deedee ... thanks a lot ... PIMBackup (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705) seems to be the thing I was looking for. http://www.purebasic.fr/german/images/smiles/allright.gif

So finaly I've synced my Data with Active-Snyc and backed them up with XBackup and PIMBackup .... so I hope that I'm on the secure site now. ;)

[Edit:] I just installed the new Rom. Tomorrow I'll try to reload my Data ... I hope I will be able to do so. ;)
