First post, alots of great info here (I've read and read) all week)
I got a htc 6800 from celluar south last week (there newest phone out) the software is almost a year old already Rom 2.17/Radio 1.69 (tita 100)

1st ? I want to know if I can get the internal GPS going ( does have the gps icon in progams listed)

2nd ? I read about unlockers not sure which one (2.40 I think is the one I need)

3rd ? Is there a newbie forum about this info, where You can ask about this
even if it might have already been posted before

4th ? I typed in celluar south in the search engine,not alot info about them, but alot about bell,alltell,sprint,verizon etc.

If this is posted in the wrong area , mods please move it

I'm game on reading some more but anxious to get started upgrading
about what will work.
I'm have windows Xp on my home pc, active sync is installed
If I unlock the phone tonight , nothing else, will the phone still work with original software ( If so, I will atleast be heading in the right direction)

That icon is for external GPS devices and is for choosing the port of said external GPS device. These settings WILL have an effect on your internal GPS, but DCD's rom will get those settings correct for you.

2.40 or 2.47 is what you're looking for and is definitely where you start.

Not really, this forum basically is that as well, and is what you're doing right now. I suggest you read the Wiki and all the Stickies post at the top of the forum to get all the pertinent info.

Not entirely sure about this carrier. DCD's ROM's require a custom carrier cab to enter proper settings. These are available here:

I don't see cellular south but maybe another one is similar? I'm not that knowledgeable about all the different carriers.

It's been so long since I flashed my BL I've forgotten now, but I think the original ROM will work. Regardless, it really doesn't make much sense to unlock the phone if you're not going to install a custom ROM on it. I would make sure you can get a carrier cab that will work with your provider first.

The original ROM will not work with an upgraded boot loader.... I suggest you do not upgrade yet until someone gets a dump of yer rom to make a carrier cab.....
