Very nice little app! Maybe, integration with Diamond Tweak by Montecristoff (in order to set your prog, as a left soft panel at Manila), could be interesting!

Thank you for your work.

Thanks for your feedback.

I'm working to integrate this app with standard Calendar. I think the better solution is to replace default "new appointment" form with my application when you click on "new appointment" of the Agenda menu.

 Just installed and already tried it - works really well :) Thanks for sharing your hard work......

It would be great if this could be either made into a stand-alone Tab or even linked in with the work D-Man666 has already done on the Calendar Tab????

Good luck and keep it comming!

I'm not sure to understand... (sorry for my bad english)
All the "^" button decrease values (ex. day 9 to 8, houre 12 to 11...) and all the fields (day, mounth, year...) are totally indipendents.

Really useful nice app. Many thanks.

I attached it to left key of Second Today and launching it instead of standard Calendar from this place.

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112
Open="Program Files\GekoNewCal\GekoNewCal.exe"

Then soft reset.
I'm thinking of adding it to "Exclude" in task manager for launching it quickly, but dunno if it would drain much battery when in background.

Thanks for your feedback, crocodile010!

Yes, you are right, I defined that "Cancel" button shuts the application to reduce battery and memory usage.
If is more useful I can change this behavior in the next version, maybe with a messagebox that ask "Close or hide" app.

I think that as few messageboxes as possible is essential as this app really should help to adding appointments in hurry. No need to click more boxes than necessary.

Maybe the suggested option with adding it to exclude list will be enough to let everyone choose if he wants to close it after every use or keep it in memory.

But again, well done.

What do you think of adding some annimation to the wheel? Like maybe flicking the wheel and showing it spinning through the dates?

The ability to set an alarm or noise and how far in advance to alert of the appointment?

Length of appointments definable.

Reoccuring appointments. Categories. Status. Attendees.

The ability to set the back ground.

Integration with OEM calendar.

These are just ideas. Thought you might be looking for a little brain storming.

If you could cover tasks, appointments and to-do's and then integrate it with the standard calendar's data and maybe even integrate it with the Calendar tab from D-MAN666 then I think it would be pretty much a MUST HAVE app.

I tried to find with WinCe cabmanager but don't find answer which file is contains language information?
I suppose it's hard coded in .exe file and it's pictures...
Could I ask you to translate it if I send you translation to russian for each of description?
Thank's forward

To make it work with Fabil Action Screen 9 Btn Diamond v6 just make this overpatching:
HCLM\Software\HTC\Biotouch\ActionScreen\App_3\Path and overwrite \windows\poutlook.exe to \internal storage\Program Files\GekoNewCal\GekoNewCal.exe please note that internal storage is directory there you install GekoNewCal and if you install it on device just exclude it from the path that i describe.

The scope of this application is to add appointments in hurry, during a meeting or when you are talking with a friend. It's an essential tool, if you need enter more info you have to use original form. :)

great app - but would def be a must have if integrated into manilla.

One obsvertaion though .... when i press the up arrow, it should increase the values and not decrease the values as it currently does and vice versa

i.e. if time is 10 and I press up arrow, it should go to 11 (goes to 9 in this version)

But still like it :)

About up/down arrows I'm working to replace static button with some wheels that increase/decrease values sliding the finger. Stay tuned :)

Actualy IMHO don't waste your time because all things integrated in manila are based on unuseless visualisation of simple function (Calendar just could show real calendar by month) and couldn't be such useful like your app.
To make something additional but look-like and iterface-like it's more simple (for ex. ShutXP or Action Screen)
and actualy it don't use memory and slow speed of interface...
D-Man is already answer you in his topik that it's impossible to make your app integrated in his calendar. His and mun_rus developing could be usefull in the future but first of all it's for visual effects (by the way mun_rus is one of the best russian ROMmakers and I think manila patching it's his hobby):D:D:D

Omar,

I don't know if you would have been around to remember OtO. It was a One Touch Organizer, calendar + task freeware program that was developed by ArtiCat on this site. Unfortunately, the developer was never able to complete the program but it had a lot of great ideas you may find useful in the development of you program. One in particular was the date scroll wheel with annimation and the ticking sound. At any rate, if you have and old QVGA device setting around somewhere you may want to load it and see what you think. Some of it may or may not be the way you want to proceed with your program but it is atleast some good ideas. Link and screen shots below:

Hi,

this little application allows you to quickly type a new appointment without using the stylus. It's a finger-friendly tool, very simple and easy to use.
For my job this tool is very useful, I hope will be the same for you too!

Disclaimers:
- Only VGA are supported (it's in Diamond theme...)
- English and Italian languages (at the moment)
- Default duration for appointment is 30 minutes
- No recurring meeting supported
- You can only enter object, location, start time and duration (but I think it's enough...)

Thanks you for interesting in and if you like my work please donate (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donations&business=5MK5UHC7ZE4VS&lc=IT&item_name=Geko%20Mobile&currency_code=EUR&bn=PP%2dDonationsBF%3abtn_donate_LG%2egif%3aNonHos ted) me some coffee I could drink while I develop a new tool for you.

Hi everyone.

Omar how about making the app scroll like the settings tab in manilla?
It would be great to have all the basic fields on the first page (view) as well as the OK/cancel button and be able to flick downwards to have access to more fields.
What do you think?

Please, make little edition to the app in order we to have GekoNewCal with Appointment, and GeckoNewCal with New Task addition!

interface should be the same but with Priority and Category options for the task.

that would be absolute and more people would use it.

Version 2.x has a new resources file for each localisation. In "GekoNewCal" folder you will find "xx_settings.txt" files, for ex: en_settings.txt for english, it_settings.txt for italian version and so on.

Set english language is easy: rename "en_settings.txt" to "setting.txt" (replace default file), close application and restart it. It's all. :)

I made a translation to Swedish, but the program does not display the special Nordic characters.
Is it possible that you add "Category" as a variable to set under "Details"?

I was editing the file on TP with notepad.

see the attached file.

Maybe is because I use Tahoma standard font... I check and tell you...

You must have settings.txt file in GekoNewCal folder. Program searchs to open setting in this folder, if not found it uses internal default language (italian).

I just now discover this beautiful application and I translated
to greek(attachment below). I didn't use it at all, just test the translation
but I saw that the "new appointment" text its not centered, appears to the right and only the first 5 letter are visible. Is there any way to fix
this from a config file?

EDIT: Just now read that some people having problems with translation local characters. I have similar problem and it solved
when I save the file in UTF-8. Maybe this is helpful.

I select calendars in outlook and have a choice between private, office or all appointments. so it would be grat to have the possibility to define the category right when i add the new appointment with this little program.

change this:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Biotouch\ActionScr een\APP_3]
"Path"="\\program files\\gekonewcal\\gekonewcal.exe"

PERFECT:D

i dont know if this was mentioned before (or if i missed it in the program itself), but there are a few things that i would love to get fixed :D

1
i would like to be able to increase the duration of a task to more than 12 hours..
For example, i wanted to add my vacation to the calendar (which takes 3 days). Geko will only allow me to set 12hours between start and end. So i have to edit the appointment in the normal calendar.

Could we get an option for this?
For example maybe a button which pops up a menu for choosing a different end date.

2
would it be possible to have a version for the touch pro too? when i view the gekocal in landscape mode it doesnt use the screen fully.

3
It would be nice to have the option to disable/enable automatic SIP keyboard. i find that the SIP keyboard is limiting the speed of a new appointment as i have to turn it off to be able to use the details or change the duration & date. (I believe having such an option would greatly decrease the required time on the touch pro)

I hope you consider any of these points. Im loving this application and i would love to see it more developed:D

- How about the date format from the system settings? My system date format is dd.mm.yyyy the app shows dd/mm/yyyy.
- Could the recurrence icons be only pics with descriptive symbol without any text?
- The color is standard green, how about blue, red (like Elvelynn's) etc. versions? Many of us has some colored theme.

In generally a marvelous little app. Thanks!

- Icons and graphic objects are external file (.BMP format in GekoNewCal folder), you can modify them as you prefer.

Good news!
But still, is it possible to add New Task functions to your great app?
so we can choose what to create Appointment or Task.
Tasks are important calendar entries too.

There are lots of people here (including myself), having very heavy schedule, and all Appointments and Meetings are clearly predefined weeks and months before they start, and they are not planned spontaneously.
Though tasks are being created/completed every 20 minutes.
Keep up your good work!

GekoNewCal 2.0.2. works fine on the Touch HD.

Just installed it and it's all looking good, except that the extra 160 pixels are white instead of black, but that's nothing to worry about. The extra space could be used for more useful things though...

Been trying this out and it definitely fits the TF3D theme a bit better and is more finger-friendly than the default new appt screen.

However, I have problems with the start time entry because if you try to increase a value, you effectively block the current setting. Seems like it would be better to put the values on top, with the increase/decrease arrows below.

Also, tapping on the Subject or Location fields brings up the SIP as they should. However, when you tap on the Start field (shouldn't this be shifted to the left BTW and all fields lined up evenly???), the SIP doesn't go away and just sits there blocking the entry area...

Looking forward to the next release, which hopefully will come soon???

ericsson68

I like this and it works great for spontaneous appointments if added as the default Add Entry method on the home page.

Couple things missing for me are all days and the ability to add attendees. Even if you can't code the latter in, a way to get through to the standard form with all the items so far filled would be very useful.

Thanks

Guys... really.. there are so many questions already answered... just read the whole post, it will cost you less time, than ask.

@topic:
AMAZING App ;)

Some suggestions:
- WVGA Version (it is working, but not using full screen size)
- daily recurring appointments (mentioned before)
- support for task (mentioned before, but pretty PLEASE!)
- Default Manila App. Editor

Some more (for beginners joy)
- default language: englisch
- Maybe a config-app to choose language/other settings

and maybe change the way you choose the time and date.. this uses so much of the screen.

This is only what i would love to see in future :) the program as it is now is amazing... just keep up the good work!

Well, this is what i was looking for, i made it default shortcut in smabergs ActionScreen (even though that i would much like to have it connected to "New Appointment" link in Manila TF3D, but seems impossible for the moment.

but i think it need a new feature: Show the day name...
When i am adding a new appointment, i can set the date but i see no day name, for example i want an appointment for next monday, but at a first glance i don't know what's the date of next monday...

note:
on my xperia, which is 480x800, i see a lot of blank white space, is it a bug with wvga devices or what?

Is there anything like this to make the default windows mobile alarma app more fingerfriendly? I know there are some third party alarm apps that are fingerfriendly, but I would like to see just a fingerfriendly interface to set the default windows mobile alarm. I think this is included in tf3d2, which I don't have nor want on my diamond.
Any help would be appreciated!

Hello to everybody!! I'm still alive.. :)

I'm sorry for this long period of absence but I was very busy with my professional job. First of all I would like to thank you all pleople that are using this simple tool and that wrote to me, it's a pleasure to know that GekoNewCal has a lot of users.

For this reason I decided to update this tool, adding most of the features required in this forum. I will start to work on it during my vacation, probably the new version will be available at the end of August.

Stay tuned!

I'm very glad you decided to update this app, it will probably be the app i will use the most of all! If you really can make this as good as it is now with the feedback and ideas people in this thread gave. i bet thousands of wm users across the world will use it!

I can understand it's hard to combine this with daytime work. but when it's finished it will give you a great feeling! Plus it won't look bad on your resume either ;)

This app is one of the best ones around...

As with all good apps it perfectly does what MW does soooo badly...

Anyway, what would be great is if when you select the date, the day name is also shown somewhere... the main reason for this is that I might organise to do something 'friday next week' - I then have to work out what date that is... If I could see the day name, I'd know I just have to scroll past Friday once and then stop at the next one - voila 'friday next week'

Nonetheless - beautiful app.

I'm working on new version trying to add all suggestions from this thread. Next version will includes:
- categories
- daily recurrency
- all-day appointment
- different screen resolutions: 240x320, 480x640, 480x800
- skinnable

Second step will be to develop a new Geko application to manage tasks (with some look-and-feel...)

I will spend my holiday to develop this apps.. :)

Great app, I'm already exclusively using it to make new appointments. Love it...

Would be even better if it was possible to make it so it launches automatically when you choose "new appointment " in calendar. Or implement it in some other way into manila, even better solution, so you don't have to start it as a program on its own. Would that be possible? That would improve overall feel of using this app daily, it would give it more stock feel and improve efficiency when using it (golden rule, don't make the user do more clicking and scrolling that absolutely necessary - you know, click start, go into programs, choose app, or open calendar, check old appointments, close calendar, open programs, open app, add apointment). Maybe it's too much work?

An extra option could also be to implement alarm settings into the app, as WM clock and alarm are also finger unfriendly. Than you could do all your time related settings with this app. (I don't know how much work that would take, as I never tried to do something like this, but these are just suggestions, so hope you don't read it as criticisme to your work)

Great job so far, keep it up!

Yes, of course!

New version will be available in two-three weeks, I'm testing the candidate release and implementing the graphic skins. This delay is because I've decided to re-write the entire application to be more attractive and user friendly. I added also kinetic roller to select the date (iPhone style..)

As I wrote in my previous post, it will include most of the features required and the support of QVGA, VGA and WVGA screen size.

Stay tuned, GekoNewCal is really arriving..!

When will next version be released? Gekotask still under development?

We are working to release the new version 3.1 of GekoNewCal, with a rich list of new features with an improvement of user interface, new graphical skin and new screen resolution of WQVGA (240x400) typical of Samsung Omnia.

GekoTask is based on GekoNewCal, most of the features/screens are the same. We have decided to wait one week more in order to take benefits of news introduced in GekoNewCal 3.1.
We will deliver GekoNewCal 3.1 at the beginning of next week and GekoTask one week later.

Yes, it solve the problem.
In order to be clear, I tested the app with 3 differents devices (QVGA, WQVGA and VGA) and with the emulator for the WVGA, and all the "final" releases (3677 and 3681) worked fine. It's clear that the emulator has a different behaviour of a real device.

Furthermore, 3.1.3685 introduces two little improvements:
- [NEW] Sorted languages list in the configuration tool.
- [NEW] When opening option tool, the current preferences are selected.

Omar, for now and until you have a version that for sure will work with WVGA resolution, I returned to the previous version 3, that I have to admit that it is a very very nice piece of software!

I have nothing against you, but I think that you already know that this kind of problems with releasing 'final' releases that it is not really final, is not the best thing for the developing group.

As Justin suggested into your site, most of the problems you and we are facing now, would be solved if you have given public beta versions...

Anyway, I know that you are trying hard to fix all of these problems, I will wait for a fixed version and I am willing to buy your new application GekoTask when it will be released. :)

About graphic skin, this new 3.1 version is more flexible and open to custom skin. We will publish more details on our website to create custom skins, of course users can create their own skins replacing images file.

It's important to maintain the same filename, image size and file format (PNG) in order to obtain the same result (transparency, positioning...).

The application adapts all images scaling them to fill the right size, but the scaling process is not so accurate than Photoshop...

On there own website i noticed Buy Now, but I can't make a payment over the internet!

GekoNewCal is a licensed application, there is a trial version that allows you to test the program for 15 days, then you can buy the license code on our website.

We accept PayPal, credit card or wire transfer, you can follow the instructions on the site.

hi,

i like to use the categories i have already defined in outlook. is there a way to get the outlook categories, other than to edit (and maintain) the usercategories.txt/languagefile?
