Lately I've been looking on this software spb mobile shell (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/?en). I was just wondering from you guys who has used, how does it compare to TF3D? I'm mostly intressted in how much smoother (mem consumption) and how the battery will last using this instead of TF3D.

Let me hear your thoughts!

I would still favor TF3D as it makes use of GPU. I don't think SPB MS makes use of GPU.

I use them together - SPB as my launcher, task manager, start menu replacement, skinned to the max. TF3d for today screen . A little high in ram usage admittedly but it's there to be used surely!

than they choose only from the appearance. TF3D wins there in IMHO.

Mobile Shell is very finger friendly IMHO. I have used it on multiple devices. I liked it a lot on my Touch for that very reason. With that said I am liking TF3D a lot. Being able to read text, preview email, play music, see the weather in my area, & click on my most used programs right from the today screen by sliding my thumb across the screen is awesome. I also see TF3D becoming much more customizable in the future over Mobile Shell. So I have to go with TF3D right now.

TF3D for me, didn't like it at first, but with so many customization around for it now, mobile shell is a no match

I've tried both and both lack customisation to the extent to which I would like, for example support for 3rd party plugins on the HOME/Now screen. Neither has the able to show tasks on these screens (there have been many requests for this on both TF3D and SPB MS).

I'm currently using TF3D, but probably only because it comes with the phone.

I still await someone to either develop the above two much further or for someone to create an entirely new interface.

I personally think the the standard Windows interface is far more customisable (but lacking the 'TouchFLO-ness'!)

what about SPB Mobile Shell V3 compared to TF3D? :D

So about a week ago I decided to give SPB Mobile Shell V3 a try......I had tried Point UI and just using WinMo 6.1 before and neither seemed to even get close to the TF3D!

But....after ONE day with SPB Mobile Shell V3, I had already whipped out the VISA and spent $30 on the full version of SPB Mobile Shell V3!

No more hacking and Modding every little detail of TF3D, no more soft resets just to change the smallest slider.....no more lagging when I try and get around my phone....NO MORE TF3D !

I am in love....and everyone should give it a shot....It to me feels like a cross between the best of TF3D and the Gooogle Platform...

I added a couple screenshots.....

I tried MS3 for around 5 days to give it a try. Never used a shell like that before.
I've now switched back to Rhodium Manila- much more functional.
MS3 was nice for weekends and when there was nothing going on.
But when it came to checking messages, sending messages (email & sms), finding appointments- it didn't hold up as well as TF3D. The new RHodium version is even better. I'm not quite ready to give up PocketInformant, and since there is no integration with MS3 for that or PhoneWeaver I'm sticking with TF3D.
I'd reconsider MS3 if they worked on letting people customize their own widgits and made integration with other apps possible. But for now- sorry.

TF3D for me as well. I've tried every UI available for my Diamond, and not one of them has stopped me going back to TF3D within a couple of days.

It's all personal choice of course, but TF3D just does everything I need so completely ;)

I've been using MS3 for a few days now and I really like it but I'm almost sure that I will go back to TF3d as soon as Rhodium Manila is bug-free and not beta any more.

TF3D is by far the BEST hands down!! Its so much more sexy looking an gets you to where you need to get to on the UI it self!! I feel like spb ms3 has to much going on an you have to tap so many different buttons to navigate around it.... I feel like sometimes less is more an htc has nailed it!! Im currently using sheps wm6.5 with TF3D V2 in the rom an its runs like a beauty, almost perfect!!! :D

Have used Mobile Shell for years and its much faster when you need things done, imho. Never got used to the sliding menu at the bottom in TF3D. Even out of the box Mobile shell has a better and more informative homescreen and is faster to get access to your essential contacts, websites and applications. For me Mobile shell is a powertool. Perhaps TF3D looks more impressive, to me it feels like it was made with that in mind rather than usability.
different strokes for different folks I guess.

I kinda of like mobile shell for now due to
1) more customization
2) stable than TF3D
3) much more information per screen compared to TF3D

TF3D is a much more ''cleaner'' apps, it also requires more memory to run.

After using mobile shell for couple of days, i find that my stock batt can last longer with the same amount of loading with TF3D.

Have used extensively TF3D, Mobile Shell v3 and now trying out POINTUI 2...

TF3D for me looks nice and has nice finger sliding animations, but doesn't give enough appointment/task feedback and the weather can't be setup to use the UK met office, music player is ok at best, basically it looks nice but is just OK as a UI, customising is tricky and limited.

SPB Mobile Shell 3 is a good mix of both great feedback on one screen, easily customised, but can start to look cluttered, I would choose this over TF3D.

Also I am trying out the WM6.5 ROMS and using SPBMS3 you can still utilise that wonderful program launch start page.

Just over the last few days I am trying out POINTUI 2, I tried POINTUI a long while back and found it slow and odd, but this new version 2 is a joy, the comumity of customising applets that can easily be used, the animations, looks are all up there with TF3D and the calendar appointment applets are brilliant, ok its not perfect yet, but at present its my choice of UI, along with WM6.5.

I have been using SPB version 3 now for 2 weeks and before that I was using TF3D. I prefer SPB. It is less buggy and can have the weather and more appointments on the main today screen. It is also smoother than TF3D. However, I do think TF3D is better looking and more customisable in terms of appearance. It is not more customisable in terms of functionality though with SPB winning here IMHO.... I have used Cloudy's rom (with WM6.1) with and without the TF3D now. These two, in partnership with TF3D or SPB is a very very good combination. Very stable, smooth and fast and leaves you with vast amounts of RAM/ROM.

I would recommend using Second Today with either options though as I don't really like the programme launcher with TF3D or SPB.

Try both to see as it is a close vote!!! :D

I used TF3D since I have the phone, about a week ago installed SPB MB3 and found what I was looking for :)

I prefer SPB over TF3D because:

Today screen, SPB has alot more info on it compared to TF3D, like weather and whatewer widgets you put on there!

Actually has two today screens, Proffesional and Lifestyle, so you can use one, lets say for the work environment, the lifestyle one for afterwards. And lifestyle has 3 screens you can use, very useful!

Personally I find SPB touch flow, more smoother than TF3D, an I have custom rom with speed tweaks, but SPB performs better for me!

I find it more finger friendly!

Contact manager way better than TF3D! With big picture icons you can arrange the way you want.

Launcher, other user friendly feature!

Carrousel 3D very nice!

Well it looks like I mentioned almost every feature of SPB MS3:D Well, I guess I like every thing about it:cool:

The couple things I liked better on TF3D was, music & sms tab's, but since I'm not listening nor texting a lot, doesn't bother me!

Didn't see any noticeable difference in ram, battery consumtion!

For my needs, SPB mobile shell v3 ALL THE WAY!

Neither, I use PointUI. Far better than both in my opinion. And unlike SPB, you dont have to pay for it (Yet).

TF's memory leaks were far too anoying for me to deal with and SPB always looked crap in my opinion!

I love SPBMS3 but I am having problems with it and wondering if it's my version of ROM. Basically, if i receive an email or SMS, when I press the message icon to read it, about 1/4 of the screen, the third quarter from top towards bottom gets 'blocked' on the email screen and no matter what I do, it will stay that way, it will not refresh. I have to soft reset to get the phone working normally. But then on the next email, same thing happens, sometimes even when running other programs. It is very annoying and I thought maybe I should try changing the ROM before getting rid of SPBMS3, because I really like it but can't live with it this way.
Anyone else had a similar problem?

you just have to get used to SPB MS3 just like how you first got your phone. At first, I didn't like SPB MS b/c it was confusing and I almost uninstalled it but as soon as I got used to it, I don't think I can ever go back to TF3D. It's faster, scrolls much better(kinetic), and everything's on one screen. Only one thing I miss is checking email and SMS is a little easier on TF3D IMHO.

Well for me I liked TF3D because it was complete, in that it has a picture tab a music tab and so on but now I have switched over to ms3 I like it better, it is incomplete in itself and has to be tweaked to be made the most of by adding other apps like vito sms and s2v and fiddling to get g-alarm working with it but at the end of the day it is a much more satisfying experience to use. I have gained about 8mb of ram and uninstalled a load of stuff that I now don't need like second today and pocket plus and all my manila mods, which at one time were up to about 20+ smalish cabs (I eventually cobbled them all into 1). I think that SPB MS3 is the nicest gui I have come accross to date and that when the themers go a level deeper into it (which they definately will) it is just going to get better and better.:)

TF3D looks much better, but I would recommend it only to people that use only basic functions of phone/PDA (calls, messages, games). Do not take it as an insult, but in this stage of development I feel like TF3D is for <20 year old people. It is nice, but has limited functions.
Older people would probably dislike only 2 appointments in TF3D and that stupid scrolling everywhere.
I use Spb applications in this order (all at Today screen):
1) Top - Spb Time (digital clock, date, alarm)
2) Middle - Spb Pocket Plus v3 with 5 tabs (only 1 of them is visible):
*Spb Diary (appointments&tasks, contacts, e-mail,...)
*Main tab - shortcut for most important porgrams I use
*People - 20 images of most used contacts (my visible tab)
*Spb Weather
*Spb Finance (cash, accounts,...)
3) Bottom - Spb Phone Suite (missed calls, messages, mails + profile changer, wireless manager)

I have 1-2 button access to everything I need, no scrolling needed.
It works great without any lags.
The only problem is that I haven't paid to Spb yet.

i am actually quite suprised at results of poll. Touch flo is actually quite a memory hog, as ms3 is quite snappy. As far as ease of use, I find ms3 quite customizable and easy. Ms3 has tf3d beat hands down in the departement of eye candy. I don't think I will ever go back to tf3d.

I really really like TF3D, but for some reason, no matter what I do, it crashes repeatedly on my phone, even after numerous hard resets. I've made the switch to SPB Mobile Shell. V3 is amazing.

and I don't even miss TF3D.

I would say, that none of both application could be called as definetely better. Clearly TF3D has advantages like (f.e.):
-Smoother, fancier Design
-Integrated Picture Viewer
-Integrated Music Player

Nevertheless SPB has its advantages, mainly a better favorite Contact Application, a better Calendar-Display and the Programs are much better reachable than TF3D. And it covers the whole Screen and replaces the Standard Icons like Battery Status (crappy!) with a percentaged one.

Currently I'm using both via TF3D-Detacher to get the advantages of both apps and with a TF3D-VGA-Skin of MS they look even quite similar.
Only problem: little more Mem and Battery Consumption

I just tried out MS3 but some things I'm still missing:

- A picture viewer like in TF3D, I can not easily show pictures to my friends by rotating the phone to use the whole screen, or navigating through the gallery by sliding with my fingers. I've to use the damn windows gallery... (May be there is also a possibility in MS3)
- Reading SMS like in TF3D... In MS3 you have to open the damn windows inbox

They try to hide windows as much as possilbe but at this to points I have to use the windows stuff?!

MS3 is much much more customizable than TF3D, however, TF3D is becoming more flexible with more people adding apps and themes and TF3D customizers.

I really feel that TF3D delivers a much smoother interface than MS3, as well as being much more complete. Small things about MS3 bothered me, such as the duplication of a business and personal screen, which I felt was quite unnecessary (although I guess I understand why it's there), but it wasn't really removable for those who didn't want it. Other things like how the SMS app was still barebones windows. In contacts, there was no google-maps integration and the like.
Having said that, MS3 was very modular, so that was good.

In the end...TF3D is still much more practical for using.

For me the major factor is the technical details - how fast/smooth it works. how much resources (memory/processor) it uses. At the end one can get used to any layout, we tend to like what we know (remember how it was to switch to Win95 from Win3?).
And SPB although is customizable, functional, etc. is not that much better from TF3d, but to me it seems that it consumes more resources. My manila is CFC compressed though, but, hey, all tricks are allowed, right?

Since 3.5 came out I've been using the RC1 that is free at the moment to try with no time limit. Only two complaints is that it uses lots of memory roughly 25 - 28mb and it does drain the battery slightly more. If you're not using a custom rom which gives you more free memory then its probably not good for you. Other than that though I find it much nicer looking than the TF3d interface and with the widgets and 3 - 5 customizable desktop spaces (lifestyle mode) you can make it fit your needs. Very smooth scrolling. If you're a user who purchased a winmobile phone and looking for a more finger friendly and more Android like experience then you definitely need to try this out.

Here is a link to download RC1 which is very stable and very little known bugs
http://www.spbclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=29539&sid=dd52238b007ae0aa61cb3e133137ac59

Strongly suggest it and after a weekend of using it I am hooked and would only go back to TF3d if I for some reason had to.

Using it on HTC Diamond.

Usage using Mighty Rom 4.8:
1hr web surfing, 38mins listening to music, 25mins talk, 20mins streaming video (youtube), and roughly 15 - 20mins of games, I'm down to 50% battery at the end of the day. No wifi, or Bluetooth enabled though as I don't use them.

I was a firm supporter of TF3D/Manila- especially with the new Sense version. But it's just not ready for "prime time". I just went back to MS3.5.2 and couldn't be happier.
Much more functional for my work phone.
