Understanding your point , the problem came from many cookers who dump rom and recooked never mention base rom came from where , special PDAVIET,some of us working hard to get new build working with old devices but what we got ? nothing , we can share with our work but who care ? from long time ago darkforcesteam release some of build without protection after three days that build all of place ( which I release 5 different languages) , did they said base rom came from DFT ? no , nothing at all , seems thier work and ask for donation , we never ask for donation , we are working for free but even a little be "Thank your hard work" no one want to say that's why we start add protection,we was here long enough and help this COMMUNITY,

So as you said above FRITZ, before one even starts to do something, he must be clear about "why i am doing this?" question.

Anyway, the true ROMs for UNI are delivered by DarkForcesTeam. Everything else is recooked stuff.

All cookers should however mention, where they get the original from (as we used to do back in the good times) and give credits to original.

That will make everyone happy.

Firstly, great to see both of you heavyweights offering your clear and valid views on this issue.

From my point of view, I've not released a ROM/Kitchen combo for a very long time due to the limited access to unprotected recent SYS.

Admittedly XIP sections have never been my strongpoint (not sat down and tried to be honest) so my approach has always been to credit the author of the XIP section, the sources of any OEM components, and the original ROM that I lifted the SYS from. I have followed this rule to the point that I downplay my own efforts in creating OEMs, modifying SYS sections etc, just to stay very much "inside the line".

I have been very careful with this since accidentally offending nncoung by forgetting to credit him with authoring pbar (included in my earlier roms).

Is there not some middle way where us less god-like rom cookers can have access to unprotected SYS dumps, and still respect author's rights to protect their unique contributions from abuse?

After all, the SYS section is most often the least modified section of recent roms. You're likely to see the catalog, SQM, and other MS clag removed, but apart from that it's as-shipped.

Just my few cents. I'd love to be cooking roms again, but without access to the ingredients I'm kinda stuck.

( but ofcourse, the crazy skuls behind this things like beepe are full in personal project like personal babys ( kidding), uni.. and you know discover something microshit and htcshit forgot do). so i try not bother them.


AGAIN i still want my universal with 256 of ram upgrade, a internal GPS UPGRADE, dualtouch drivers working ( well i can dram, its free and iam not stolen nothing from no one, beside my right workgint neuron).

Its someting everyone need know to.. our uni are old. most can be done is try to port kind of new function of drivers for our device..

I started to work in phoneseting ( new one ), hiding the change band from raphael and writing a simple tool, to change this ( and create a phoneseting2 in settings). but the geniious of my family put my flufy computer at garbage ( yes was need to go in garbage city repository to find the computer ), and i loose one HD ( ONE SAS )with this and become angry to not start it again ( iam not a good programmer).
another things i was playing was the triger in usb that change in registry to popup the screen to choice what to do..

not much more.. beside the look.

:-) ( but 256Mb of ram, i still have wish.., hard to port spl, bank adress and all hell crazy stuff you dudes play... but hoppe die last)..

Understanding your point , the problem came from many cookers who dump rom and recooked never mention base rom came from where , special PDAVIET,some of us working hard to get new build working with old devices but what we got ? nothing , we can share with our work but who care ? from long time ago darkforcesteam release some of build without protection after three days that build all of place ( which I release 5 different languages) , did they said base rom came from DFT ? no , nothing at all , seems thier work and ask for donation , we never ask for donation , we are working for free but even a little be "Thank your hard work" no one want to say that's why we start add protection,we was here long enough and help this COMMUNITY,

(1). why you're releasing rom's for free?
(2). do you believe you can keep it protected?

Actually I (we) don't need the answer because we all know it. My friend, it's still not a valid reason to encrypt anything and this kind of protection is never appreciated.

Personally, I never expect any return (not even a "thank you") for the rom I cook/build. I do it because I enjoy it, I do it because I try to utilize my "tedious off-time".

DFT is the source for couple of drivers in my rom and interestingly I have noticed their watermark in the dll during my first debug. It was actually as easy for me to re-hex (the watermark) but my intension was not to do it. For instance, you would notice the watermark intact if you simply take a look of the "backlight.dll" in my 8.2 build:

1. we cant sell our any release rom because we didnt own it , MS/HTC own the rom not us , we just used their source to remake more stable rom , no one can sell any rom or cook rom ask for donation,all source belong to MS/HTC,this should clear for everyone.
2.protection not easy to do it , for sure any protection can be hack it depend how you do it,you can dump protection rom to recook but you need to use old RGU and DSM to rebuild it , sometime will not very stable at all,
now we are working with protection XIP part,again can be dump but cant port XIP to others device,you can try our next release , two months to wait :D:D
right now HTC had region protection which will be very hard to recook rom,one day you will see this
3.about the watermark that just rom version we set , it very easy to HEX

Donation to the effort doesn't means that you are selling anything, its just an appreciation to your job, no more different than a donation for a freeware software that you like to use!

Same story here, people should be aware and free to decide were to direct its donations, you (the receiver of the donation) can freely direct it to the forum if you think that is better. I don't think that asking for donation means selling anything, I don't think it's a disgraceful practice, if a donation can keep things running better why not? :confused:
