Hi,

I bought a HTC 8525 (Cingular) and I have several basic questions that I still can't solve in any other forum. First of all... is the HTC 8525 the same than the Hermes?? I don't see any Cingular forum...

How do I update from Windows Mobile 5.0 to the latest version? Is it free? What's the procedure?
I want to listen to many mp3 files in random order, but my Windows Media Player allows me to play just one at a time. How can I have a playlist, or, is there a better software that I can download to listen to music and videos?
How can I download Opera Mobile? Is it free?
Can I connect an external HDD (80 Gb Lacie hard disk) to the HTC? I would need a 2-way mini usb cable, but never seen one of those...
Lastly... does anyone have any experience with another OS such as Android, Symbian or another? I wonder if it should work better than Windows Mobile... just curious

Thanks in advance!!

1. read up in the upgrading section. You will want to 1st Hard SPL your Hermes (yes, the 8525 is a Hermes). After updating to Hard SPL go to the wm section. There are a heap of cooked OS's there with a list of included apps and a general description.
2. update your library in windows explorer or get another media player. S2P is a REALLY good player and its free. Use the search funtion to find it.
3. refer to last point.
4. No. Not possible.
5. Android (Linux) is in developement but you need to be able to troubleshoot and there are problems... Symbian isn't supported.

I would suggest before posting you do a search on the forum. All the information you wanted was in the WIKI. Asking 1st without searching is the fastest way to be flamed and/or ignored. Esprcially as ALL your questions have been answered Heaps of times. Remember, the wiki is your friend....

Thanks. I apologize for not reading previous posts or the wiki first.

Just to clarify some things:

- First I have to "Hard SPL" (I researched the Web for the term "Hard SPL" and I'm not sure what it is... neither wikipedia has any article), and then install WM 6, right?

- I like what I saw about S2P. That's what I'm gonna use :) Now... the search function didn't come up with any results in my HTC. But I'll figure out how to install it.

I guess that's it. Thanks again, excuse me for my language, and regards from Chile!

Go here for Hard SPL - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Use Hard SPL V7. I'd also use the sd card method - find out in post #1160 on page 116, all app downloads there too.
Please note, Hard SPL ISN'T A GUARANTEE NOT TO BRICK YOU DEVICE BUT IS A SAFETY NET TO MAKE THINGS EASIER TO RECOVER IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG.

Type in "S2P cab". When you download the cab file copy it to the sd card and click on it. It would be best to have upgraded your OS though as you may get a "certificate not registered" error and it won't let you install. The new os's have everything you need. You can install the app to either your device or the sd card.

The WIKI we refer to isn't Wikipedia but the wiki on XDA-Developers.

Cheers...:D

Hi @ultramag69,

Yeah, I know you refer to the XDA-Developers wiki. I was just saying that there is not much information about all this in the web (in general).

I've had problems... I followed the steps suggested by you and the guys at that post #1160.

My phone gets to the 3 color screen and just sits there and never updates.

This is what I did:

1. downloaded Hard-SPL-V7.zip
2. extract it to my computer. Then I have RUUWrapper.exe and RUU_signed.nbh in my computer.
3. Renamed RUU_signed.nbh to HERMIMG.nbh
4. download sspl-herm
5. extract SSPL-HERM.exe and copy it to my phone, together with RUUWrapper.exe and HERMIMG.nbh
6. Run sspl-herm.exe on the phone.
7. got the tri-color screen and... it never changed (as you can see here (http://rbarra.vtrbandaancha.net/images/htc_dead.jpg))

Now I can't do anything... not even turn it off. I'll appreciate your advices

Your SD card has to be 2gb or less and you need to format it fat32. Make sure you back it up 1st.

Cheers...:D

I would also suggest not to worry about trying to run SSPL.exe if you can reset into bootloader (hold power, OK button above flywheel and reset with stylus. Hold in until it goes to the tri-colour screen) and it says -
SPL : 1.09.ds

Just make sure the sd card has been formatted fat32, .nbh file has been renamed properly and the sd card is inserted. Then reset into bootloader. It should detect the flash.
