Does the device hard reset when installing Olinex HardSPL?

just wanted to upgrade my radio and read that this does not reset the device. But then I read that I need to install an unsigned SPL first, and could not find information about a possible reset when doing this. So, does installing Olinex reset my phone like a ROM upgrade?
