View Full Version : [FIXED] VAlert 1.21 - Customize vibration pattern

VAlert
Customize vibration on phone ring
This small program allows customizing vibration incoming call alerts.
Windows based phones vibrate either before the ring or constantly during the ring.
Having a short ringtone can possibly solve this problem, but with long mp3 ringtone the phone will constantly vibrate during the ring.
This program will enable Windows Mobile phones to produce short vibrations when the phone rings.
Vibration patterns can be easily changed by the user.
Possibly to match vibration patterns to the ringtone, so the phone will vibrate in a rhythm.
Very low (~4K) memory usage
This software is a freeware.
How to use
1. Install the CAB
2. Enjoy the program with default settings
3. The program is hidden by default. To display program window (if needed), run the program again
7. In Phone->Options make sure ring type is Vibrate and Ring
4. Edit script.txt to change vibration pattern. Every line in the file is a pair of vibration length and note pause
5. From the program window run Menu->Test to test the created pattern
6. Perform Menu->Hide to hide program window
What's new:
- More devices support, including non-HTC
- The installer executes the program upon installation (no soft reset required)
- No vibration on waiting call
- Support for incoming call ring mute (stop vibration)
- Silent start
- Even lower memory footprint - ~4K on standby (was 11K before)

sounds cool
gunna try now
you should make it so you tap the screen to show when u want it to vibrate instead of editing the .txt file
Edit: Great app but confusing to change the pattern
Edit2: lol doesnt seem to work on my vogue when i go to phone->options and press play its just a long vibrate

to save people the bother of working it out themselves, and to get everyone started...
here's my version of the Nokia classic message vibration
i can't hum it, so you'll need to try it, i guess!
Edit : Oh, by the way... is it possible to do something like this for recieving SMS / MMS / Email, or is that a different process altogether?

Yeah, that's what I wanted to ask too! Would be awesome, would be a very useful app, thanks. And yup, maybe an easier way to edit vibrates would be nice. :) However, it's cool now, for a version 1.

Post your suggestions. I am making a list of changes for the next version.
Dr J
18th October 2008, 09:15 AM
Suggestions :
- a settings UI on the device (instead of having to pull the txt file off to PC and edit and then put back in on device)
- ability to change between multiple vibrate scripts (via drop-down menu or list?)
- if possible (?) ability to use vibrate scripts for SMS / MMS / Email / Other alerts
- vibe scripts that match pattern with the actual ring / message tone would be VERY cool
excellent little program, thanks a lot for the effort
if the other message alerts can be changed from within this (or even just another separate small app) it's just what i'm looking for!
and please can other people post their script efforts, it'd be good to have several pre-sets to start out with.

there might be a slight bug in this
a few calls have come through recently, the vibrate kicks in itself and the ringtone does not play for about 10 seconds or so.
also the programmed pattern seems distorted.
it might just be my device, as i'm noticing that S2U2's full screen call ID has been struggling to kick in when a call comes in these days since i started using Manilla2D as well.
it might be that the device is struggling to find the ID picture and the ringtone and the vibrate pattern at the same time, all the while trying to run M2D.
i'd check if it works correctly without all these extras running, but M2D and S2U2 are pretty much essentials for me these days.
anyone else care to help?

Do you have this problem with all calls or just some?
What do you mean by distorted pattern?
Does this problem happens when VAlert is disabled?

That's not a delay. By default (there is a registry setting to change it) the ring is delayed by 2 seconds. VAlert does not have that delay, so it will always start vibrating 2 seconds before the ring.

by "distorted" i mean that the vibe pattern is not quite the same when the phone rings as it is when hitting "test" in the app.
tested a bit further, i've freed up about 7mb of RAM by closing all applications and then called my mobile.
- the 10 second gap must have been due to device memory, it's cut to the default 2secs as you mentioned above, so that is just a device memory issue to do with my Elf juggling lots of things at once, not your app.
- the distorted vibration pattern is happening mainly on first ring (just as the ringtone kicks in) and then seems to sort itself out (mostly - it still vibrates a fraction too long on some "vibes" and ends up a little stuttery), so i'm guessing that this is also to do with my device memory and not your app.
why on earth did they have to make the Elf so weak in spec?? :(
so, all in all, i think the issues are probably on my end rather than any prog bugs. i just thought i'd mention it in case others have similar issues
thanks, and keep up the good work.

Ochakov, can you insert a delay when the app begins so that those of us stuck with the 3 second delay can just add the same 3 second delay to VAlert? I have a Tilt and I've been trying out a bunch of different things and all it's done is remind me that a 3 second delay is totally unacceptable but I've decided I just want VAlert to work:) Thanks

It's very easy to figure out the txt. Those are simply the durations of vibrate and rest.

What do the values represent? Is 100,100 an indication to rest or vibrate? Or for 100,600 is one of the value a period of time and the other an rest/vibrate option (like 100 is 1 second and 600 means vibrate)? Thanks for the help

Why don't you solve the issue with the ring delay and add the same delay to the vibration? Don't you want your phone to notify you as quickly as possible?
I am going to find the registry key resposible for the delay and update it upon VAlert installation, so there will be no delay of the ring.

is anyone else gonna post their scripts if they come up with a good pattern?
even better, if you make a pattern to match a ringtone, post both of them up!
by the way, i've got Tweaks2K2 and tried to disable the 3s delay. It didn't work.
actually, i found the regedit, changed it, and it cuts out the 3 seconds between each time the ringtone is played, but not the 3 sec delay from the start of the pattern. this means that the ringtone ends up playing wrongly.
back to square one.

If you could solve the ring delay issue I'd be as happy as a pig in sh!t (which I hear is pretty happy). I tried using different suggestions on XDA but the registry tweak only altered the time delay between rings (not the time of the first ring) and the only way to alter the first ring appears to be through use of tweaks2k2.net. Thanks again - it's even more frustrating that there's a ring delay since my phone now vibrates right away then I wait for the ring to begin...

If something is not clear, abuse my translator. On ASUS P526 WM 6.0, VAlert 1.11 works well, but with one profile there are problems, namely with "Only the Sound", at an entering call the screen of phone lights up and through long time appears CallerID and the sound, sometimes lights up only the screen. If program VAlert is inactive, all is normal. Please, correct it, I understand that the program is intended for change of a mode of vibration, but sometimes it is necessary to change a profile that there was only a sound, and to close the program long enough.

Test results with HTC TP: v1.13 is not working at all, however v1.14 fixed this. One thing though, on the HTC TP, when VAlert is running, flipping the phone will not stop it from vibrating. Neither pressing the on screen mute button. They will only stop the ring tone but will keep on vibrating. For me, this is nearly PERFECT! Hopefully you can fix the above minor issue I'm experiencing. Thank you very much for sharing such a great app. :)
Cheers mate.

It works great, I just have one suggestion..
I have an HTC TyTN II
As VaThInK said on post #77, when I scroll the side wheel or press the button to mute the ring, the vibration continues.. It would be perfect, if, when the user scrolls the wheel, or presses the mute button, the vibration would stop as well..
Maybe you could include this function in next version?
Anyway, great app!!

hi there ochakov ,
thanks for the great APP But i want to report a serious bug in your Valert :
usually with the default settings of the device and while the phone has been set to (viberate and ring). when you're talking with someone on the phone and you get another call at the same time waiting on the line (waiting call) your phone gives some peeps to know that there's another call on the line
BUT with Valert the phone viberates while your talking and while it's near your ear which is really annoying and painful most of the time even the other person you're talking to gets annoyed with the sound of the vibrations.
this is the only bug that keeping me from using your app at the moment i really hope that you can fix it
thanks

i never made any more as i stopped using the app on my Elf, when a call came in there were issues using S2U2 Call ID, VAlert and a ringtone on my Storage Card, and the horrible lack of memory on the phone.
I've got a Diamond now though, so I might try this again.
If I make any more I'll let you know :)
Edit : Just tried it again, even with the spare memory on the Diamond, it's still sluggish and the vibration pattern is distorted. Can't see me using this again in it's current form.

Very low (~11K) memory usage
This software is a freeware.
How to use
1. Install the CAB
2. Enjoy the program with default settings
3. The program is hidden by default. To display program window (if needed), run the program again
7. In Phone->Options make sure ring type is Vibrate and Ring
4. Edit script.txt to change vibration pattern. Every line in the file is a pair of vibration length and note pause
5. From the program window run Menu->Test to test the created pattern
6. Perform Menu->Hide to hide program window
New version supports more devices, including non-HTC. The installer runs the program upon installation.
Hi, just wanted to let you know that your app rocks. After I installed it and without any configuration done, it has stayed installed ever since. Even with any change in rom, it goes back in. Now I don't miss any call when my phone is in my pocket.

Hi ochakov,
thank you very much for this program. This is exactly what I need for my ipaq 514 as it has this annoying bug that vibration doesn't work simultaniously with the ringtone. With VAlert the phone now functions fine as any other phone would do unlike what the shitheads at HP programmed it to. I cannot express my gratitude for this piece of software. I have only one bug report i.e. the cab doesn't install on the smartphone, it says:
"the installation file is not intended for this device"
so I had to unpack it manually. I see another user with HTC Vox reports the same problem.
Maybe you could repack the cab file so it works on smartphone version?
Btw if you wish I may setup a free hosting account for you to host a website for the program and/or host anything you like online. If interested just PM me. This would be the smallest thing I could do to express my delight with the software.

Hello.
Sounds like just what I was searching for but am sad to report it doesn't work on my Touch HD; neither test (doesn't vibrate at all) nor actual call (still continuous vibrate). Soft reset doesn't help.
Apparently the HTC custom app for the volume keys has something to do with it (I'm just guessing since the volume keys app doesn't work properly when VAlert window is active).
I'll be glad if anyone has it working on HD and tells me how.

Is this the first version you try? What device do you have?
If you put an empty debug.txt file in the application folder, you can get debug menu to manually adjust vibration led. Once you do it, it will store the value in the registry and work for future.

you said to set vibrate and ring in phone settings but it is not true. I use phone alarm that sets different profiles with some settings that vibrates and some that don´t and if i use Valert, my device always vibrate using designed vibration pattern although i have set a no vibration profile in phone alarm (Phone alarm also changes phone settings when switching between profiles). So it seems that Valert doesn´t mind if there is a vibration profile or not in phone settings.
Do you think is possible to make Valert run only when the device has a vibration setting active and only in such case?
thanks for this great tool, i can´t use it with phone alarm but thanks a lot anyway.

The same bug (new version 1.21) on Touch HD - volume keys are not responding properly anymore. First press (up or down) brings up the volume control, the second press dismisses it.
Seeing how all the newer devices seem to be affected (Diamond, HD, Xperia), could this be related to WM 6.1?
Unfortunately, this is a serious bug which prevents me from using the app. Otherwise, the vibration control now works as advertised.
If you manage to fix the volume buttons bug, I'll be as happy as a clam.

True - my Diamond suffers from this problem as well. But (unfortunately) that's not the only problem - in my case (Diamond with 1.93 ROM) the "stop vibrate on call mute" doesn't work - I press "mute" and the vibration continues.
If these were fixed, I have nothing against the app! It's a really must-have app and I hope this will be fixed.

Haven't tested this before, but the same problem exists on my Touch HD as well. So apparently, it's something common to the newer devices; either WM 6.1 or that they are all manufactured by HTC (including Xperia). Weird.
Anyways, Ochakov, I really hope you can patch your app to fix these bugs.

very good idea. Would love to use this on my xperia, but seems to be some problems with the current version.
My greatest wish however would be to make this program also encompas the SMS vibration (right now the sms (or any vibration for a small event) is very intense and long, kind of suffocates any other sound you have attached to it).

I will release another version to control the settings of the captured buttons to make it compatible with different devices. If I had some other devices to test, it would be easily fixed, but since this project is not commercial, I can not afford myself testing with different devices.
PS. I am using HTC Hermes (JasJam) in my testing environment.

Fantastic news! Thank you very much indeed for taking your time with this. Should you have a test build that needs a test run, do post it here and I'll take it for a spin on Touch HD, then report back. I'm quite certain many people will join in (thus providing you with feedback from multiple devices).
Cheers and please do keep up the excellent work!

Hi!
First: Thank you for your effort in that grat little app!
Unfortunately, the Volume buttons bug in 1.21 applies to my phone as well (Xperia)...
Two further thoughts:
- i second the idea of independently "designing" the sms and the ringing sound
- what i would love to see would be a possibility to combine the "increasing volume" ringing with vibration. WM6.1 doesnt seem to be able to do so (only "ring an vibrate", "vibrate, then ring", "increasing volume" and "ring only", but no "incerasing ring AND vibrate"). Maybe that could be solved by an application like yours....
thanks again

The thing is that the "increasing ring" in WM doesn't even work the way it should - it's just another stupid ringing profile that implifies the ring AFTER it plays the whole audio file. So in fact unuseable.

Alright I finally installed this and it is not playing nice with my phone. When the first call comes in after install it seems to work ok BUT you can not ADJUST the volume using the HARD KEYS on the side of my TP the volume control comes up but then disapears if you press again you can use the stylus to adjust though. BUT that is of no help considering once the first call is over the next just constantly vibrates. And I can not find anyway to launch this app in menu?

after reading through all 186 posts...
i have a new sprint touch pro, for about a week - stock rom - few minor tweaks
just installed valert - did a soft reset - everything went smoothly
confirmed side volume buttons up/down only open volume controls, do not adjust
the vibrate pattern works when I hit test in the program
when i receive a phone call, it does the stock vibrate pattern, long steady, pause, then long steady
not sure why?
for suggestions, along with a few other ppl, supporting sms would be sweet.
i do 10 text to every 1 phone call. to me, support sms alert is more important than phone call alerts. future sms support would be great! :)

So it's the VAlert! I was wondering what app messed up my volume keys!
I read somewhere that it is possible to write vibration scripts directly to the registry. So if the dev does not show up any more, we might have to do it manually.
EDIT: Here for example:

Changing the registry to vibrate with a pattern and play ring tone at the same time it is not an option, because windows executes that code in an succession for example if u make a pattern for vibrate and in front you put play ring tone first it will play the ring tone to the end and after vibrate.
and the v alert problem is with the manila htc volume control, if you disable it vol control will work, i think i saw that htc uses some scripts for controlling the volume. I don't know how to fix this, i am not a programmer :)
hope if i give u the ideea someone will fix this :)

Quick question about TreoVibe. What I found is that if I have incoming call while I'm having a phone call already (call waiting) my phone will start to vibrate and the person I am talking to will hear the vibration until I answer the 2nd call.
Any way to fix this?
I am using HTC Touch Diamond.

This problem appears when using HTC Volume application. However the standard Windows Volume application is working fine even on HTC TP or Diamond.

Hi,
I would like to ask a "feature" if it is possible to easily implement in your VAlert program.
I use S2U2 for CallerID program. When I got an incoming call, it is possible to silent the ring tone with the volume up/down button. This function works perfectly, except the vibration does not go to off.
Can you fix this issue?
Thank you!

first of all: great tool, extremely small and working fine!
On my HTC Touch HD it works perfect for incoming calls, but not for SMS. Can it be extended to work for incoming SMS as well? There I've got the same 'problem': an mp3 tone assigned for incoming SMS and the vibration is as long as the mp3: annoying long...

6. Perform Menu->Hide to hide program window"

Nice app, works great on my tilt, I was playing around for a few minutes and came up with this little piece. in a quiet atmosphere or on a desk people can hear your vibration, I was trying to get different tones and got something pretty close. the key to it is the motor has spin up, so to get a note you'd have to tune it to your motor obviously, but I got a nice little fade in going.

- Even lower memory footprint - ~4K on standby (was 11K before)
Program is excellent I have touch pro 2 in that while muting the call the vibration is not stopping. But inbuilt vibration will stop when we mute manually or turn the phone face down. Is there any option to activate this with Valert
Once again thanks for your excellent program
