View Full Version : Gonzo Rose Rom 1.0 SYS 20279 XIP 20279 v1.0a

Dr. Martin Gonzo
19th October 2008, 03:07 PM
New in 1.0a
-bluetooth works
-windows live works
-removed audiobooster
-fixed the not needed icon for task manager
-changed microsoft cpr files so that you can use htc panels on other homescreens.

Bug in v1.0a
-after setting up my gprs account info the phone sometimes establish a gprs connection at boot I don't know why. Tell me if it does the same to you. I don't know if it transfers anything either so take care if you don't have a data plan !
- htcweather will show in other homescreens but refuses to update though unless you use HTC Homescreen. Dont know why. Anyone can think of a solution ? I've tried adding htcweather panel info directly in the homescreen as in HTCSlidingPanel.home.xml but it still won't update

I just wish scrolling was as fast as with 19700 SYS. I'm sure there was a user made made modification in this one..

I tought that 19700 was a good SYS but I also tought that the speed was emphatized ALOT for the scrolling trick...finally someone who confirms that!!

BTW regarding the speed i didn't catch your comparison...You think that someone as did in this 20279 the same trick that was in the 19700 or what?

BTW2 I'm downloading ur new work with my raging super power ISDN:o:o:( tonight I'll post my impression...:D

P.S: I think you finally rejected the PLUMSIP idea for substituting XT9...And including only 1 language in Xt9 whas a choiche made 4 the speed? SO anyone has just english as base and from that can install only HIS language improving the overall speed?

Sorry for my english I'm in a rush!!

Thanks you for your rom. I am downloading it now. @thebo
yes over the time i have realized that 19700 was not fast it was only scrolling speed otherwise i think it was slower.

So what difference does the boot launcher make - speed-wise? I think I will make a new clean ROM based on the new SYS and XIP, because there are so many Rose ROMs now that one more wouldn't make a difference. Although I remade all the OEM-packages to work without the new cold boot stuff they included. Well, I have a lot of time next week, so there will be some ROM...

i think dr.gonzo is accepting this(arent you?)

so theres no audiomanager no .net framework and things liek that in this rom?

or do you have this things included all the time/arent making roms w/o this?

Dr. Martin Gonzo
19th October 2008, 03:54 PM
yes yes upload it where you want. I just upload it on this server cause it is the one from my ISP and so upload speed is much faster.

.NET 3.5 is in audiomanager too (I love the fact that it displays album art!).
Yes overall 19700 is slower but I really liked that scrolling speed :)

I guess with bootlauncher the rom takes longer to boot but I like the fact that I don't then have to wait for pocket outlook to load when I want to send/read messages. BTW Frauhotelmann do you want my OEM ROM and SYS for your clean version ? That could save you a lot of time!

I only included one language in xT9 not for speed but for anyone to be able to add what they want.

I could make a PlumSip version to see if it's faster but since there is already Hikey rom is there really a point ? I haven't tested his rom so I don't know what's in his. Tell me if you're interested.

Dr. Martin Gonzo
19th October 2008, 03:56 PM
BTW did you see with this new SYS we don't need to change bronzeres.dll to make custom sliding panels anymore. You can specify which .cpr to use directly in the home xml file ! I'm trying to adapt my Mona Lisa homescreen to this new format to see if it works good

mmm for me..i would interested BUT if it takes you a lot of time...in that case no! Because i'm trying plumSIP but even with the eng CAB some things are still chinese..which is not...mmmmuch understable like could be french, spanish or similar.
Well i don't even know if english PlumSIP is quite useful in our languages French and Italian which have accented words...
Does localized PLUMSIP of our languages exist?? :confused

Hi Dr Gonzo,

Firstly, thank you for providing this new ROM. I've flashed it onto my device, so far it looks and responds very well.
I have found one small problem with the bluetooth activation. I am unable to switch the bluetooth on either from the Comm Manager or from a long press of the lower volume button. Does anyone else have this issue?

Thank you.

Stuart

Thanks Dr. G for the offer, but I'll do my own, since I am nearly finished. And it is better for a newer kitchen release. Because then I can distribute the Rose packages separately and they should work for everybody, with or without the new cold boot stuff. I will offer both versions once I am done, one complete and one clean...

I noticed the cpr change too. I wanted to swap the standard cpr files and there were a couple of them. So there is one for each theme now. That can be a problem too. I tried the HTC Rose Sliding Panels and wanted to add a launcher panel and the icons were screwed up from time to time...

Yep not working for me too. I never tested it because I assumed it would work without any problem since I never touched anything related to it but no !!!!! great...

I'm currently flashing a rom with the original htc OEM to see if those problems come from my SYS folder or from the XIP.

Bluetooth is not working and audiobooster is not on select

CAn confirm: ON is not "checkable"

So main issues so far are

live (Msn and Windows Live) NOT WORKING
Bluetooth NOT WORKING
IA Task manager shortcut INVALID

And IMHO
SpB backup doesn't work
Bold fonts are not good
Bold Fonts in JBED are very scarying and unreadable:D:D
Could you include a File Explorer (other than WM provided) like u used to.

Other minor things I don't remember

Dr. Martin Gonzo
19th October 2008, 06:48 PM
What do you mean by audiomanager "is not on select "?
I wish I could test this one but I can't seem to find my headset. Must be in my car but it's parked far away

TheBo
19th October 2008, 07:06 PM
He meant what I tryed to explain the previous post...
You can play with Audiobooster once headset is plugged in BUT in the MAIN screen there is a "ON" checkbox...that even when selected is not "checkable" so the settings won't apply...
at least I did not noticed any changement in my phone call

If you think it will help I'll provide you a screenshot

frauhottelmann
19th October 2008, 07:07 PM
He means the Audio Booster. It just doesn't work. You can open it, but the check box "on" can't be selected, so it doesn't turn on.

I think Bold font in sliding panels look good but in menus and etc it looks bad. Dr. Gonzo this roms UI is awesome other wise, I hope you find solutions to errors.

TheBo
19th October 2008, 07:33 PM
Yes Bold in menus is not that useful
but I also meant BOLD in JBED...use gmail app if you have an account and you would see unreaded mail in scaryng bold font...lol...btw I think it's not a cooking related issue so...this would be a plus...

I prefer small fonts as in msessages and mail the more I could read in a single screen the faster I read...I REPEAT IMHO!!!

For audioboost this is the shot
http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/1397/screen001kg9.jpg
The "ON" check box doesn't work. It really is SELCTABLE but NOT ACTIVABLE.

I agree with you regarding fonts. Fireburned includes more readable font in hims roms. It is not bold. But I still think that if sliding panels can be customized then they should have bold headings speacially Clock should be bold.

Stupid questions: have you check reg keys like that run at boot? (Run, RUnOnce, init) etc??

Maybe Network configuration that loops in background at every boot??

Ok so I will try to set the fonts thinner before posting the rom and we should have something good !

Dr. G, thanks for working on this ROM. I can't test it yet as BT is essential for me, but I'm really looking forward to this one. Can I also request that theMyPhotos shortcut pointing to the mypictures on the SD card? I have looked for how to do this on other ROMS but never was able to find the file you used from koxo.cn.

Hi Doc,

I'm using your rom 1 day ago.

Some problems.
Modaco NODATA doesn't work.:(
There's an icon name Task Manager in "all program" that i've an error (Can't find 'IE_Task_Manager') but with the power button i can use the task manager (the old i think)

I'm installing the chome configurator, but there's no way to use the weather sliding in another home screen layout.:o

Thanks for your work.
can i hope you make a french version of this rom ??:D

+1 for french rom ! :)

Dr. Martin Gonzo
20th October 2008, 12:49 PM
You have to edit some files to be able to use the weather panel in other homescreens.

in HTCSlidingPanel.home.xml there is a line CPRFileName="HTCSlidingPanel" that specifies to use HTCSlidingPanel_240x320.cpr and HTCSlidingPanel_320x240.cpr cpr files, which contain the weather panel layout. Maybe it might be a good idea to include them in the default microsoft cpr files... I'll try that

Modaco nodata works on the version I'm preparing.

Dr. Martin Gonzo
20th October 2008, 01:14 PM
Ok I've made the modification it works :) You'll now be able to add the new panel using a "regular" sliding panel layout

I'm sorry I just have the files for french translation. So I will ONLY make a french rom. But I will give you the OEM ROM and SYS folder once the rom is complete so anyone with the correct files will be able to add a language. Also I've never tried it but I guess mui files from the omnia might not work

zeeshee : today

combory : I think this is the lock normal behaior, nothing I can do to change that.
To translate the files you need to use a program like reshacker (google it) and edit the mui files I've joined. save them with 040C in the filename instead of 409. I've also added previous french mui files for reference when I've got them. You'll have to compare the files to see if there are any new strings. If not then we can use the old file. If there are any new strings you should be able to copy paste most of the old french text to the new mui.
take care that the number are still corresponding !
MENUITEM "From Contacts", 40089
MENUITEM "From Call History", 40555
MENUITEM "Add %s", 1291
MENUITEM "Clear All", 40099
for exemple here 40089 might be 40088 in the old french file...
Good luck!

You can drop them them in the windows folder.

add in the registry :
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\MUI\Available]
"0410"="Italian"

Then select Italian in the setting and reboot (maybe a reboot is necessary for the choice to appear).
I don't know if the rom will boot without all the SYS italian mui file present but if it does it should allow you to test your translations.

I'e finished the rom for now. Haven't changed the font I still can't figure how to change the size of the text in softkeys

Still one problem, it sometimes start a gprs connection at boot so take care if you don't have a data plan. I don't know if it downloads things or not or if the problem is only with me. Maybe it's the weather app trying to download although it is configured not to...

Regarding the multi host service qooy I can also report that it doesn't work 4 me...btw it's common that those service go temporarly down due to the high traffic so..it is a good rule to annotate the direct links they provide to the effective hosts..like mEgaupload and Rapidshare and so you could publish just them and not the main multi-host link.

there are a lot of good alternatives to qooy you can google for it... shareonall

it seems this rom gave everyone a lot of trouble to build something working !
Also I'd really love to make the new camera work but I believe it's hard coded to a specific camera sensor.

Fireburned gave me the tip to make the font thinner. Apparently you have to make the OS believe the fonts are chines, its the only way to make them thinner. I'm waiting for his complete instructions to speed up the process.

Even with the volume at loudest? For me it's just as loud as other roms, only thing is the audio manager doesn't have any volume control anymore.

With the side volume buttons you can just put it as loud.

Or else try an hard reset/reflash?? That may solve it.

Very good and stable so far. Very good RAM optimization, fast and responsive.
One question - I have backed up my phone using sprite. Now if Dr. G updates his ROM further with same XIP etc and i restore my back up after flashing will everything work smooth as now or I shall have to install everything allover again.
One more thing how are everybody finding the battery life ? It seems as if battery life has gone down a bit-not sure enough though. Waiting for others comments.

Hi everybody!

Like I said yesterday, "I will give my opinion tomorrow", so here it is :)

I tested it today (mostly at school) and i like the new interface (weather included an things like that)
At school is used audio manager all day, with my headphones plugged in. One thing i noticed was that if I forward a song and want to listen at any given point, the music lags a bit before it starts playing.
Another thing wich is different from previous versions. If i have my headphone plugged in and i receive an SMS, the sound goes trough the phone-speaker in stead of the earphones. I didn't like this very much, because i can't hear it trough the music.

And the rom doesn't feel very fast, but then i installed Vox-OC and put it to 228Mhz and now it flies (haven't tested if the audio manager lags with the OC turned on). But i definatly notice that the rom is allot more taxing on the phone then my previous Gonzo 6.1 rom.

When i receive an SMS and i read it, the icon wil still appear on top of my screen (and the text in the SMS tab on homescreen). Then i open it again, and thén it removes the icon. Don't know if this is a bug or something with my phone?

I hope the responsiveness will be better in the final version, but at the moment the ROM looks very good :)

Keep up the good work! :D

Finally flashed it :)
I think Internet Sharing doesn't work in this ROM. It just shows an empty window over the screen, and it's impossible to kill it in Task Manager.
Apart from that, it's a great ROM!! File browsing using Windows Explorer with my device connected through ActiveSync is now much faster than it used to be! The device boots up pretty quickly and responds very well. This is definitely the fastest and probably the best ROM for Vox ever.
Thank you guys, keep up the great work!

ADDED:
Nevermind, I got Internet Sharing to work after a couple of reboots. Very strange.

Hi,
here are my findings with this rom:

- Comm Manager doesn`t start, therefore no bluetooth, no wireless
- pressing the Menu (right side) is freezing the application and cannot be closed not even by Taskmanager, only soft reset will do the job. This is true for : Start Menu, Contacts, Calendar, Pictures & Videos, Tasks etc

Unfortunately everything looks very good, but (for me at least) doesn`t work as it was supposed too.

Have been playing with this one for a little over 24 hours now. I love the new features available during an ongoing call.

The ROM seems quite stable, no unexpected bugs this far. Bluetooth, Windows Live, Camera, Java - they all work fine for me.

The only area of improvement I can see in this one is the amount of memory it hogs :D Just as we have seen with almost all new ROMs, memory just disappears as you use the device. None of the memory freeing tools will reclaim substantial amounts. That, in turn, affects the overall speed and snappiness of the ROM.

I'm hooked on to this one for now. Thanks a lot Dr. G for providing us with a great ROM yet again :)

It seems that it was an mp3 music file (just one) which caused this problem. Without it AudioManager works, with it it doesn't. That's very strange, becaused it worked with no problem with WMP or older versions of Audio Manager. Anyway, erased the song, and everything works fine now.

as promised, here are the steps i have taken in order for my MMS to work ( my mobile operator is not on the Connection Setup aplication database.)

- first i defined a new grps connection using my operator settings (Settings > Connections > GRPS > New). In my case Connects to: property is set to Work, very important.

- use a registry editor (i`m using Registry Workshop trial) navigate to :
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Destinations\Work]

- copy the content of DestId to a blank notepad document, in my case this is : {A1182988-0D73-439E-87AD-2A5B369F808B}, not sure if it`s the same for everybody

- now navigate to :
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Arcsoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\mm1\MMSCSetting\SampleMMSC]

- i just modified the SampleMMSC profile. Here are my settings, you should modify yours based on your operator settings:

"waptype"=dword:00000000
"Name"="Work" (i have modified this to match my newly created GRPS connection which is set to connect to Work)
"ConnectionVia"="{A1182988-0D73-439E-87AD-2A5B369F808B}" (i have modified this - you have this, or something like it, in that blank notepad i was talking about earlier)
"Gateway"="193.230.161.231" (i have modified this - provided by my operator)
"MmscURI"="http://multimedia/servlets/mms" (i have modified this - provided by my operator)
"ISP"="SampleMMSC"
"WAP2SendDefaultSize"=dword:0004b000
"WAP1SendDefaultSize"=dword:00019000
"SendDefault"=dword:0004b000
"GatewayPort"=dword:000023f1 (i have modified this - provided by my operator - don`t panic in the reg editor you can type a decimal number)

Previously I was using the clean rom by fireburned.

my findings:
pro:
- nice theme
- darn fast

con:
- My phone isn't recognized by mobile device center anymore, so I can't synchronize or can't use it as external storage (am I the only one experiencing this?)

- Some icon's don't work anymore (like welcome center)
- When I want to type an sms or anything else, I can only use the sliding keyboard for alphanumerical characters. The normal num pad only produces numerical chars.

UPDATE:
After this procedure I can sync my phone again:
Start --> settings --> connections --> more --> USB to PC --> uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality".

Weird thing is that this worked with the clean fireburned rom.

It boots with around 20mb RAM available. When i open a couple of apps and close them (making sure in the task manager) some of my memory simply disapeares.
I know that what i discribe is normal, but not by this much.

Anyone else noticed this? Also the homescreen responds very bad, i think it's because the 200mhz cpu can't handle it (@240mhz its fine)

Would love to get some feedback :)

Indeed it is true, but using Oxios and AEButton for closing apps immediatly (I configured AEButtons so I double press RED button and I close the app) I manage to have 22-20 MB of ram almost always.

P.S: I also removed The weather Stuff from starting...now I'd love to know how to get rid of HTCActivityLog.exe

I flashed my phone back to lefab's cleanrom.
My phone was on all day. And of the day i wanted to listen to music and browse a bit in opera mini. First i went to the taskmanager and close everything (because it was on all day allot of memory was already dissapeared). So i was browsing with audio manager on the background. And all of the sudden my music stops, windows just exits audio manager to free up ram!! So i restarted audio manager and when i loaded the next page in opera, audio manager pops out.

So in short, it doesn't help the useability of the rom :(

Dr. Martin Gonzo
30th October 2008, 07:54 PM
It's in fact a problem with all the things htc put that run in the background : weather, phone skinning...
I think you could try to disable a few registry key to get rid of what you don't need :

for exemple in HKCU\Software\HTC\Bootlauncher you could delete the skinning of volume, the weather application if you don't use it and the automatic launch of pocket outlook at startup..

Maybe a few other things could be done to free more memory, like disabling the new skinning of the calling screen, but I prefer to keep it it's quite useful.

So the clean rom has it's positive sides :D

If a very clever ROM-cook cooks the new SYS and XIP in lefab47's clean rom, that would be perfect (winmo 6.1 and newest core components). LeFab47 was already working on this rom if i didn't misread it :D

But besides all of this, I really like the Rose rom! To bad it doesn't suit all my needs. Useability comes at #1 and if it shuts down my programs in use to free up ram then it just isn't for me.

I think this rom shows why the new s740 has that much memory. The coding is more inefficient (look like that to me)

Dr. Gonzo, keep up the good job! Your a true windows mobile guru :)

Thanks Dr Gonzo for the theme. Now we have a theme with different style. You are a really wonderful.
By the way the weather panel shows only temperature and weather icon. Previuosly I had used a weather app (Featherweather portrait) developed by Showaco in Excalibur forum. It worked really well with Vox and will suit very well in the weather panel of Red Dress theme of yours. But I am unable to try it since I am afraid once I install the app it will mess up with your app. So will you give your opinion suggesting a way I can uninstall your weather app keeping the theme and install featherweather by Showaco.

Ok so i haven't found too many bugs in this ROM.

Good things:
Awesome looks.
Nice skins on Media Player, Audio Manager, Comm Manager
Bundled programs: RSS Hub and Photo Manager
Integration of Audio Manager on Home Screen
HTC Weather on home screen
ROM is really fast
Usual DR Gonzo ROM advantages: BT and WIFi on with side buttons, stability, etc.

Bad things:
Battery life - phone lasts around 60% compared to other ROMs
Audio Manager has no volume up and volume down buttons
Earpiece volume skinned (i don't like it, maybe others do)

I had to change the ROM because of the battery life.

Anyway, congratulations for this great ROM, Dr Gonzo!

I just love Dr. G.'s work here. It surely made my life better with my beloved VOX device. Thank you so much!

I'm using non-English characters for my mail/calendar/SMS and they show up as squares because the Segoe-condensed font installed on the system only contains the Roman charcters set. I'd like to replace that TTF file with one that holds the complete character set. I'm not looking for a localized version - I love the English interface. I just wish to have non-Roman characters show up right.

Any idea where these font files are located?
