Just a mind spill, it might be cool if you could play a Theremin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theremin) on the diamond using the lightsensor as modulation?
So if you place your hand near / over the light sensor it modulates (pitch) the sound,
like with a normal Theremin.
And maybe the second modulation (volume) could be done by a slider via the touchscreen.
To calibrate the lightsensor it should take the value it has when the program starts or a button to set the max value via the amount of lux currently provided to the sensor, this way it's possible to 'finetune' it to specific frequencies.
