How do you install themes

Oumpahpah
21st October 2008, 03:19 PM
Hi mutantman,

To install the theme just copy the theme zip file in your PocketCM installation directory (\Program Files\PocketCM\).

Then in PocketCM settings, select "Choose Theme ...".

Hi,

thx for the link to the second theme, it looks really nice. BUT:

have you also realized the enormous slowdown of PocketCM with the Theme?
Just open an contact, click on the name on the top to open the edit-menu and do something... there is almost everywhere a delay of 5sec and more. PocketCM is unusable for me with this slowdown. I have ~150 contacts and ~10 of them with pictures. Default PocketCM skin works perfect, but this beautiful one....

am I the only one with this problem? If so, it could be some special issue. I can't imagine that the theme works perfect all other Diamonds but mine...

I have O2 XDA Diamond, original 1.93 ROM, ~15MB free Device-Memory and ~40MB free RAM. PocketCM installed on Internal Storage.

As mentioned in first post you have to install PocketCM v0.25c,
and as google lists as first result, you can find PocketCM here:

http://www.pocketcm.com/contact.dev.php.

And also explained in 1st post: :p
- install theme1 by copy zip (as it is) in the installationfolder of PocketCM and
- install theme2 by copy the zip in the zip (first extract) in the installationfolder + copy the two fonts in your language depending folder...on german ROMs it is "windows/schriftarten"

After first start you have to change the theme...
...and when u succeed in running the second theme read the 5. post here and report how fast this theme is running on ur diamond :D

Thx ur nice skin but after I change the dark diamond skin, PocketCM are running slowly. not smooth as the deault skin. the zip size r 1.34m, is that too big for running with PCM?

pizzabomber,

I have 700 contacts with hundreds of pictures.

I can a little slowdown (definitively not 5 sec) with the Theme.

May be you should give a try to a cooked ROM (cf. my signature :D)

PS: I also updated the first post with a Warning message

PS 2: I'll give a look in theme images to try to lighten the skin.

lol... "come to the dark side" :D
...perhaps you are right, but I only destroy my warranty with cooked ROMs after a while. Now the Phone is too new and my HTC experience says, that i have to send back the phone for warranty reasons after ~a year. But the benefits of these ROMs are really alluring!!!
But on the other side, with the tweaks from DiamondTweak and Adv.Config here on the forum, the diamond became really faster too!

Thank you for trying to make a lite-version of the skin! This is not the first PocketCM skin i tried and rejected, because of speed-problems.

One Way to get it better is definitely:
- Start PocketCM and scroll every contact and wait for every picture has loaded (takes even with 150 contacts compared to 700 (o.O) very very long)
- Minimize PocketCM only and put to exception-list of taskmanager
This Way PocketCM needs a lot of Memory all time (which is rare on original ROMs, i know...) but the standard functions should be fast enough to be usable...except the details-dialog :p

PS:
...without custom further ROM discussion on more memory:
~15MB free Device-Memory and ~40MB free RAM should be enough, or not?
...so my ~3sec delay to open detail-view and ~3-5sec to open contact-notes, open/close contact menu...

And I found 2 other issues: when closing details, sometimes there is a red graphics bug on the upper part of the screen.
And i miss the possibility to minimize the app by clicking the upper-right corner (where normally the x-button is). Is this a theme issue, or something abolished in the new PocketCM version?

you could do what i do, and enjoy a rom, and if something goes wrong, and you need to send your phone bk for what ever reason (i have never needed to send a phone back to HTC!!), just put the original rom and spl back onto your device!!

I also never send it to HTC...instead i had to send my old orbit1 several times to my provider (O2) ;)

I read about the possibility to flash back to original ROM for warranty reasons, but i'm not sure,
1. if it is possible to completely remove 100% and if it is not possible after that to figure out, that a custom ROM was flashed...
2. what SPL-files i need to reverse to original German 02-ROM

When I flash, I first need all the files to go back for emergency  and second more good reasons to flash (really better radio or new ROM version).

PS: sorry for off-topic ;)

Here's a smaller version. I deleted all the images for QVGA in the archive. Seems to still work, but I don't know if it does anything for speed.:)

Edit: hmm.. Seems the author of this theme didn't put much effort in optimizing his images. When I have more time I'll see what more I can do, but I think another 400 Kb (of the 800+) could easily be shave off without image quality loss.

Oumpahpah
25th October 2008, 12:59 AM
Thx sjaak21 for the effort, but the result is worse for me: it seems you've suppressed required files.

But your remark concerning images size is totaly true, If you can compress them a little bit ...

Reading the post where I found Dark_Diamond_II_0_25c_VGA, I tried a solution for performance issue provided by the Luckymat:

I unziped the skin files directly in PocketCM directory (see original post ->here<- (http://htc-touch-diamond.forumactif.info/themes-f26/skin-vga-htc-diamond-pour-pocketcm-contact-t1431-30.htm#34166) ).

Now there are no more lags !!!!

Hell yeeeaaahh!!! IT WORKS!!! :D

Thank u man, PocketCM is now a real rocket on my Diamond with a theme, looks like HTC made it themselves!!!!

I also have found some iPhone Themes month ago, with the same issue and i'm sure this will fix this there also.

But there is only one disadvantage with this solution:
You have to extract all files directly into the same folder like the pocketcm.exe. So multi-theme-management is gone, especially since even subfolders with extracted themes are not recognized.

Or any solution for that? Subfolders would be great and will make this perfect ;)

@ pizzabomber

Happy you finally can enjoy the theme.

For multitheme I may have an idea, but I have to test before.

Could you please post the iphone theme you're talking about with a link to the original post where you found it and I'll add it to first post

Hello pizzabomber,

I've found a solution for multi-theme, I had to change settings.ini and repack.

Follow these steps:
1-Choose another theme in PocketCM options
2-Stop PocketCM (to avoid acces denied)
3-Delete all the initial skin files you unziped in PocketCM folder (especially the settings.ini)
4-Unpack the attached archive in your PocketCM folder (contains a folder with imahges and a zip file with only settings.ini).
5-Start PocketCM and go to option, then choose skin "Modified Dark Diamond II 0.25c VGA"

That's it ...

PS: Please don't forget to post the IPhone theme you mentioned I'll repack it to

WOW...i will try it

...i needed a really long search to find the links for the iPhone-stuff :p

The iPhoneEDS_v25c_VGA Theme has an issue with the contact-details tab, having many entries there (~5 tel.numbers, 3 email-addresses,...). In this case the numbers overlap with the contact picture. So i tried to find the old link i downloaded the theme months before....finally i found it and there is no newer version...

Here is the originally theme in QVGA for PocketCM25c with many screenshots:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356419

And here is the iPhoneEDS_v25c_VGA.zip someone rescaled (not perfect and the issue mentioned above, but still pretty nice ;) ) from the original one:
http://pocketcm.com/phorum/read.php?8,10835

On the second link there are also 2 more VGA themes, which are remakes of the original "Dream" theme....they are called "Traum.zip" and "Traum-orange.zip". Perhaps the files on the page are newer versions, because i saw an edit, but the files i downloaded month ago together with the iphone theme aren't working. Perhaps they are worth a second try...

...lets find more VGA themes!!! :D

PS: I have another question:
Themes from what version are supported by PocketCM25c? I saw many vga themes on the PocketCM forum...but most are for versions 18,19 and 20...

EDIT:
Thank u man!!!! Really good work. Your modified Theme runs perfectly!

Looking forward to the modified iPhoneEDS and and MM-HTC0.2 ...did u manage running the "Traum" Themes?

EDIT2:
Now i have made a repack of the iPhone theme by myself!
Install is the same than the "Modified Dark Diamond II 0.25c VGA":
Just copy included Folder and zip both into the PocketCM install-folder.
Enjoy the iPhone theme with full speed! ^^

EDIT3:
I found some errors in the Dark Diamond Theme:
* VGA Version of BG_Contact_Detail_Panel_Buttons.png is missing
* at settings.ini on line 758 (i think) the folder-variable is missing:
"list.optionspanel.list.background=Vga_BG_Notes.png"

Hi Oumpahpah,

now we both edited the iPhoneEDS Theme :p

I made an uncompressed, multi-theme-enabled, speed version and you made an bug-free version with cosmetic changes :D

I think making your version speedy will be the next step... ;)

@lukymat:
first, thank you for this great theme!!!!!
What do you think about the 2 issues i noticed by looking into the settings.ini (edit3 in my last post)?
I realized an red overlay sometimes in the details-tab (when closing this view and somewhere else). Could it be that these issues have something to do with this? Could it be fixed?

Hi pizza,

I corrected the missing image reference you mentioned in one of your post.

Concerning the red box when clicking on "back" from the detail panel, I was not able to find the solution so far.

Concerning iPhone theme, I have no lag with this skin: that's why I didn't repack it.

Hi pizza,
Concerning the red box when clicking on "back" from the detail panel, I was not able to find the solution so far.

Hi,

As pizzabomber mentioned, the solution to red box problem is to create a VGA Version of BG_Contact_Detail_Panel_Buttons.png.
I resized the QVGA version to make one and copied it in the folder -> Edit: file attached upon request.

It fixed the red box but the error message is still displayed on top, something like [I can't read it].contactdetail.buttons.text

Also, the bottom zone in the SMS view is bugged: images aren't drawn as they should be.

But I have to mention: these problems are not present when using the (really slow) original zipped skin from luckymat.

Maybe it's not a skin problem but a software problem?
I discovered that PocketCM creates a "_cache" folder where some PNG are with a ".pcm" extension when using the zipped version.

I hope we can get some clues.

Cheers,
Alex.

PS: luckymat if you read this, chapeau bas, this skin is superb. Do you still work on it?

Edit: just remarked that I cannot upload a PNG image (it's automatically converted to JPEG), so you have to convert it to PNG.

I'm trying to run the excellent Dark Diamond theme on my Touch HD and suspect that it's designed for a shorter screen. As I scroll down my contact list the contacts that should scroll off the top of the screen just collide together in a horrible jumble about three quarters of the way up.

Is there something simple in the .ini file setting the height of the screen or the length of the contacts list. I had a poke around but haven't had anything much to do with skinning this app so far and I could blunder around for days without achieving much.

Is there a simple steer someone can give me? All help gratefully appreciated

I'm getting really annoyed :(

How the hell do you install a theme for PocketCM?? I deleted all the themes from the pocketCM folder and copied over the Iphone theme zip (not extracted) and ran pocket CM, but it goes to some default yellow theme!

I have tried all the others and no luck... Have I missed something?

Sounds like you haven't selected the theme yet in options yet.

Hold the button for the phone keypad, a new set of buttons should show up, slide your finger to the settings button (the second from the left). The button to select a theme should be the first optioon, press that and a drop down list of the themes should show up, choose one, then voila. :)

Hi guys,

I made some corrections* to the excellent lukymat5's Dark Diamond II, with the uncompressed trick.
Works like a charm with latest PocketCM 0.27 :)
I'm uploading it with lukymat5 permission.

I also updated french language for 0.27 version (included).

See this link: *Broken link*

Simply extract all files in the PocketCM directory. And enjoy!

I'm a bit confused re. the two fonts that 'need to be copied'.

I've tried the theme both with and without the two .ttf files in my Windows\Fonts directory and I can't see any difference in PocketCM.

FYI my Windows\Fonts directory is there although empty, with the only .ttf files I can find in any Windows directory are a few in the root of the Windows directory itself.

Perhaps someone could let me know a visual test so as I can see the difference / check they are being used as per they should???

Thanks in advance!

The theme creator originally included these fonts. But it seems they are present by default in the Windows directory for the HTC Touch Diamond.
There's not difference with supplied fonts.
So don't worry about this :)

The "performance mod" is not from me ;)
But it's simple to implement: you get speed increase by uncompressing the skin images into a folder and updating the settings.ini file to point to its path.
While it's necessary for the Dark Diamond II skin, I'm not sure it is for the other skins.

The simple trick is to add another variable: $folder$ and make precede every image call by $folder$\

What you have to do is:

-To add a $folder$ variable at the beginning of settings.ini:
$folder$=The_skin_name
Then to add before each image call:
$folder$\

-To uncompress the skin PNGs into the "The_skin_name" folder into PocketCM directory

-To make a new zip with only the settings.ini file in it

-To delete the previous zip
-To empty the _cache directory stored into the internal storage.

That's it.

And because I'm kind, I've done this for you. :)
All you have to do is to extract the RAR files into PocketCM directory.
Grab 'em here:
Modified_iPhone_EDS_v25c_VGA_U.rar (http://dl.free.fr/qiOW1cRFG)
Modified_Blue_VGA_V1.0b1.rar (http://dl.free.fr/txGbhUlEt)
Don't forget to do the last two steps I mentioned.

I've not tested them! So please don't complain for anything else

And enjoy!
Edit: forgot the fonts! Download here: *Broken link* and uncompress in \Windows\Fonts folder

And PLEASE, feel free to report any glitch or problem, I'll try to correct it if I have the time to, until lukymat continues to work on it.

Alex.

New version updated, including landscape mode here : http://mediafire.com/donpipo

*=
# Corrections made:
# - Background header, OK
# - Message input box, OK
# - label.contactdetail.buttons.text missing ref., OK
# - VGA version of BG_Contact_Detail_Panel_Buttons.png, OK
# Still to be done:
# - Red screen when closing Note page
# - First keyboard opening in Note page (after it opens normally without hiding buttons)

Don_pipo, the link is broken. Could you please upload it again somewhere?

Thanks!

That's it.

Hi,
First I want to thank you for the excellent theme! I use it exclusively on my Fuze and love it as it integrates perfectly with the HTC Black theme. Unfortunately I'm not a big fan of green which prompted me to create a theme for my Fuze with Blue highlights instead of Green. I didn't get far when I realized I needed to change the green in your skin as well for complete continuity. My theme is a work in progress but I've gotten in far enough now that it can reliably be used with Diamond Config Tool to give an almost complete swap to all Blue highlights instead of green.

I offered a cab that would change over only the graphics in your theme that had green to blue. Then it occurred to me that I should just bundle them up as a complete theme. So if someone is already using your DDII theme in the default location and path name they can just patch with the cab to overwrite the green graphics, or use the BlueMod theme if starting from scratch or changing over from a different theme.

Anyone interested in the Blue Diamond Config Theme can find it here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462819). Thanks again for your hard work and hope you don't mind the color mod. I almost gave up on using PocketCM altogether until I found your theme. Now I couldn't be happier.

Cheers,
Eidolen

WOW! Very nice Eidolen!
I haven't check your blue mods for Dark Diamond II yet, but it looks very good.
Even if the purpose of DDII is to stay as stock as possible, I think people would enjoy custom colors. It's a big plus that you made a TouchFLO blue mod along!
Nice work!

Actually, I was thinking about modding colors for the skin almost like Scott did with his SprintFLO remake.

Would you allow me to distribute you blue mod along with the skin?

It would be a good idea to make it as an add-on rather than a direct mod, including only the blue graphics and a modified settings.ini, so that people can choose between different colors without having to make/install another skin. It would save space, plus the blue mod would benefit from further development of this skin, which is planned next year.

The CAB installation is a very good idea also :)
I'll put myself on this next year so stay tuned.

Alex.

@don_pipo
Thanks for the kind words. Makes it all worth the trouble to hear that. Feel free to use all or any parts of my work as you see fit. Just know I'm close to another update that will once and for all fix that nagging problem with the Internet tab globe highlight. I'm attaching a preview of it, so once I finish some other files I'm working on I'll update both my cab and theme files. I'll notate the updated files in red at the top of the page so you'll know when it's ready. HERE (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462819) is another link so you don't have to scroll up. =P
