I recently updated my Ace to WM6.1, and can get Tom Tom 7 to run, but it won't register a GPS device. I just switched after being a long-time Windows Mobile PocketPC user (HTC Vogue most recently) and wondered if there is a GPS Primer for the smartphone, similar to AstroGPSLauncher for the PPC.

I have been doing some experimenting with this using version 7.915.9196 on a Samsung Ace. This version actually runs properly on Smartphone and has the same interface as TomTom mobile 5 (menu options on number keys, proper keyboard support).

One problem is that it doesn't seem to be possible to use the 'internal GPS' option out of the box. I think this is because the default Ace configuration for the GPS multiplexer is COM11 and TomTom isn't supporting COM ports above 9 (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb202042.aspx warns that this may be an issue).

The fix for that is to edit the multiplexer settings to use COM4, to do this set the following in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Multiplexer
DriverInterface=COM4:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Multiplexer\ActiveDevice
Index=4

You can then install AstroGPSLauncher and use it in the same way that you would on the PocketPC.
