So what's next guys.. A Vanilla, super duper fast ROM.. or... continue to make this one better ?

Continue to make this one better with maybe some classic games like mspacman, pacman and maybe frogger. :)

...lost my sms and mms messages after loading rom SEARCHING for answer. hehe.

thank you for you hard work the rom looks awesome.

This is a great rom with all cutting edge apps. However when I use Kavana's rom, the memory total was around 48MB, while yours stood 43.56MB. I was wondering if this matters or not?

Also I couldn't find a way to make the OMAP setting permanent. It currently resets whenever the backlight is off. On Kavana's rom, I think the behavior was the CPU will be overclocked whenever the screen is on...

- Issue with '0' (zero) observed in number only fields (e.g. BT pass code), does not let enter '0'.
- Not able to connect via BT to sync
- Observed flicker on windows\startup folder
- Battery life is BAD -- this may force me to abondon this. I have new high capacity battery, that easily last 2 days for me, but this ROM burned it in 18 hrs. I am guessing weather app is to blame (i had disabled auto-update)
- I will try with disabling weather app altogether, if that does not improve battery, then I will revert to earlier Kavana ROM
- Esmertec Jbed works great with gmail (generic) in this ROM, it had issues in Kavana's version, any one knows how to get this version so that I can install it on Kavana 6.1 ROM?

-- for now I am inclined towards going back to Kavana/Ricky Vanilla.

Do you have any sites that provide mobile videos so I can test the media player ?

The fact that you cant install certain apps is certainly not a "bug". Try loading the Rogers WM6 ROM, they dont let you install ANYTHING! LOL BUt I will look into it... Can you provide me with an example ?

This ROM is mainly built for the TMobile Dash (the american version). To get it to work with the UK version, you have to download a new keyboard map file. Again, this is not a "bug".

Windows Live isn't showed on the screen by default. I don't care for Windows Live :) Use the Chome Configurator app to enable the panel.

I cant get the Camera Album to replicate that behavior... can you explain a little more ? Thanks.

Windows media player wont play any videos from the phone, not even the ones that i have filmed with the phone's camera. That's not a big issue for me as i can always use any other video players like core player or tcpmp.
The keyboard issue i got it fixed thanks to stylez, and the camera album got solved after deleting all the picture that came bundled with the rom.
windows live wont show on the screen even if i enable it with chme configurator.

any way this is a great rom.keep up the good work.:)

I noticed a random keyboard freeze when I tried to activate the keyboard lock by holding the * key for a few seconds this morning. The phone appeared to still be working, just the keyboard and navigation buttons didn't seem to work and I was able to shut down the phone by holding the power button for a bit. I restarted and have not seen it occur again yet.

The navigation keys seem to be very sensitive in java apps. Specifically I was using Gizmo5. It acts like there is a fast repeat rate with no pause before repeat so menus will repeatedly pop up again unless I'm very light and fast with the button presses. It's mostly an annoyance. It didn't happen with other ROM's.

The setting to encrypt everything put on the microSD card at Settings/Security/Encryption does not work. It errors with "The settings could not be saved."

I'm going to be going back to another ROM for the time being but I'm impressed at the progress made on this one. I will try again if I see a new version released, though. I also look forward to a possible true vanilla ROM based on this one.

Keep up the great work.

what do you mean by "working"? If the keymap is wrong you will simply need to change it, the same way the Dash people needed to change Ricky's and Kavana's

I tried but it didn't work....when I install Ricky's rom it's OK

The media player issue is fixed in version 1.3 which is coming out tonight or tomorrow at the latest. It was a problem with trying to blend in the Streaming Media player. As you can see from Ricky's files, all he does is replace all the video decoder DLLs. So just have a little bit of patience and we'll get through this together and have a perfect ROM at the end.

p.s. My phone's been on "standby" since Friday morning and now (sunday morning) I'm only at 79% battery...

Sorry mate,I didnt mean to offend you in any way. I only poined out an issue, and I pointed it out on the thread of your Rom,the place where you would normally get a response from the author of the Rom,right?
I was asking you for a solution, not rickywat. Just happened that rickywat came with the solution that fixed the issue. But,like i mentioned before, I was asking the author of the Rom,thus you,for a resolution.
Once again I want to say that this is a great Rom, and you did a great job so far fixing the issues.
In the end it's really not so important who get the issues fixed, but the thing that matters the most is the fact that those issues get fixed, for the benefit of the whole xda comunity, right?

From my point of view, it's definetly the best ROM I ever saw and the first one which works perfectly. For me version 1.2 is awesome - with a battery lifetime I never had before with other ROMs.

Last but not least, it's the first ROM where I do not have any trouble with my german keyboard layout - from the beginning. Choosing XT9 German was all I had to do.

Setting up my device after flashing is now a 3 minutes task and not something for a Saturday afternoon for fixing, like it was before.

Thanks again, NRG - you're my star.

NRG, can I make a few suggestions? I think with your new release there needs to be a "bug report" thread, where the people that have true issues can post them. Users NEED to understand that there is a big difference between a "bug" and a "feature request". The keymap post for example, that is not a bug- the user should have simply asked how to make it work, instead he complained that it doesnt "work". It would be great if you had the power to delete the posts in your own thread (the ones out of line, or not following the topic)to keep everything straight- can you be issued moderator powers for a thread like this? That may keep it easier to follow. Also, this thread (or these threads if the bug report one makes it) needs to be stickied.

Your doing great work, please dont give up on us users that truly respect your work and will continue to use it. At the same time, please try to be understanding that Ricky and others are trying to help. I know you are not ready to release your kitchen, and I hope Ricky and his followers can respect that. Keep up the great work man!

Has anyone found a resolution to the incompatability between WM6.1 and "Plays for Sure" subscription services like Rhapsody/Napster? I really hope this Rose ROM is the answer.

When I was running 6.0 I could sync with Rhapsody just fine, but since moving to Kavana it's never worked. My phone appears to sync but when I try to play music I get an error that "This is not a valid Windows CE application" and my phone basically crashes. I have to pull the battery and reboot.

I'm not a "power user" per se. I'll use Kavana, Ricky's, or Rose, whichever one will let me play subscription based music. I just sold my MP3 player to get this phone, and now my 8GB microsdhc is worthless. (I know I can get music other ways, but I like to pay for the convenience.)

I actually removed the DRM components from my ROM, because I figured.. hey.. who would listen to DRM MP3s on their phone ?! Guess I was wrong. They do take up a little bit of space, so if I have space left to put them in for version 1.3 I will, but I can't promise anything :)

1st, thank you for your work.

My question is,

Can you make a bare to the bone - extra clean "Rose 1.2" rom, with no extras only keeping the black look that it has now.

things to keep in the rom (sample)

Office Mobile
Connection Setup
PHM RegEdit
USB Storage
Java
Calculator
Adobe reader
CeleTask

... just the basic needs.

Once again we love your work, Is this possible or do i need to pay for you to do this?

-Thank You.

This will be done for sure. I just thought I'd iron out all the bugs out of this ROM first and then, I will release a plain vanilla version. To be honest, I will probably use the plain vanilla version on my device as well, as soon as I get it done.... I don't like a whole lot of "bells and whistles" either. Heh Making a vanilla ROM is easy (IMO) and I would never ask for money for that... :o

You want the eT9 UK in my sig reboot and then drop the attached .txt pad in the eT9 folder on phone :)

I had tried this prior to posting, but I am still unable to get some keys to work correctly - that is why I asked if Rick could help.

Using this method, most keys and Alt-keys work OK - but the TAB never works for the Zero key. And the long keypress of the comma does not give a semicolon, long keypress of the period does not give a colon.

Well I wish I could say something to change your mind but I completely understand why you would choose to do it. I'm not against the remake, but things didn't flow the way they should have.
I hope you continue developing stuff for us (like Miniweather, which I think it's better than the HTC one) and improving this ROM. You will always be the father of this amazing ROM and I'm sure we all know that, even Stylez and Rick, I don't think they had bad intentions and I hope you can iron things out between you and work together as a team.
Thanks again and congratulations on this ROM

P.S. Sorry if something I wrote was not entirely clear but English is not my main language and it's very difficult to express some things.

Hey NRG,

I hope you keep working on this ROM but as others have stated, I completely understand if you choose not to and thank you once again for all of your hard work on it. Just like a good album, I prefer the original artist over a remake when the choice is there to be had :D

Once question I have, and I honestly have no idea if it's possible but I'm sure you'd have a better idea on it than most. With the HTC weather panel, do you think there would be anyway to get the update connection working with the t-zones internet proxy? Not a big deal b/c I'd be dumping it the minute you decide to bless us with mini weather for this ROM (if you choose to do so, of course!)

NRGZ28
11th November 2008, 04:27 PM
I guess getting miniweather to work with this ROM as well is the next logical step. You will have a working miniweather by the end of the day today ;)

As far as getting it to work with the proxy... not sure. Try searching the forum for a solution getting the HTC Home PPM plugin to work with the 5.99 tzones or even the "Manilla" interface. It's the same software with the same .exe's running the show in the background.

I'm going to be keeping this one for a long time. :D

That's great to hear man, glad you like it. And I'm glad DRM works right, as I never had anyway to test it, I just kind of dropped it in there.. heh Good news though... :p

I've just upgraded to version 1.3, and I've found that I have to press Alt-0 to type a 0 in a phone number field in contacts.

It seems to work ok in other fields, like the to field of a text message.

Is there a fix for this?

Yeah, it's not a big problem since I figured out I needed to use Alt.

Last night i had to take down someones number on a piece of paper because I couldn't get 0 to work, which was a bit embarassing. hehe

Thanks for making the ROM though. It's pretty cool so far. I hope you'll keep up the good work.

I'm glad I chose a dash... it's really improved heaps since I first upgraded from WM5.0!

I don't know if you noticed this as well, but in text fields both 0 and Alt-0 produce a 0, there doesn't appear to be a way of typing a tab.

Not a big problem for me either, but you might want to know...

NRGZ28
11th November 2008, 11:16 PM
Yeah I noticed... I'm working on it as we speak. It's weird though, because the layout is exactly how TMobile and Rogers have it setup in their ROMs. I'll mess around with et9.excalibur.0409.kmap.txt file some more and see what I can come up with...

my impression after 15 mins of installing: very smooth, the effects are attractive. havent test voice quality. keyboard mapping is fine (now i understand the tab problem, but not big deal for me)

i can suggest to include Resco Explorer and SMS pack for your next fix NRG. this would make the ROM perfect. these two softs (in my opinion) are essentials to beginner users like me :D.

gospeed.racer is right... This keymap is the one included in my ROM already. What I think the "problem" is ... some of the .dll's associated with eT9 are different than what's in older ROMs. I'll see if I can play around with them.

i have installed the T9 Keymap cab file found on this forum and it fixed the problem with the tab key. install the cab file, reboot your phone, and voila. i have tested during composing a message and the tab works fine. also when i tried to input the reg code for some softs, the 0 key works fine as well (without holding alt key). i will go home tonite and attach the cab file for all to try.

The WiFi in your ROM has been more reliable than any other ROM I have used. Usually I have to disconnect and reconnect from my home WiFi every 10 minutes or so. With your ROM, my first attempt online lasted 30 minutes without a single hiccup. AWESOME!

Also, is there a way I can get SMS, MMS, and EMAIL plus missed calls and voicemail back into one sliding panel?

Oh, and HTC Photo Album is flipping out. Just keeps spazzing on one image. However, there are over 150 pictars on my storage card...is that it's way of saying I'm trying to load previews of each? I can't move the selection from the first image as it always snaps back.

I never said I didn't like the rom so take your words and shove them down your own throat. I am helping you by adding things to the bugs/does not work list. Well that makes sense now that you clarify it....the photo flickering is a personal photo taken on a vacation. You had mentioned deleting the stock images that loaded with the ROM which I had done. Voila, confusion.

Me calm down? lol I wasn't cracking the whip and saying work work work! I expect the releases to come out when they are done. It's just I see this "don't like it don't use it" attitude from NRG a lot and it's like hey now, simmer the f*ck down before you drive everyone away.

I'm fine with the small icons, they've grown on me. But rather than acting like a fool NRG could say oh yeah the icon sizes are set in this .dll or on this line of the .cpr. Dude needs to take a step back and change his approach to support requests...

You realize that NRG is doing this in his free time and doesn't have to offer it to anybody, right? I'd be frustrated too if I willingly put in all this time and effort to build something and many people don't even say thanks, they just say 'fix this or do this cuz this sucks'...people could show a little respect for dude and just ask him if he wants to make such and such a change and report a bug. If I were him, I'd probably tell people to piss off and just do my own thing. I'm thankful NRG has shown more patience than that IMHO.

No bearing whatsoever. Don't want the attention don't open the door.

To add further:
The Camera settings are glitched. The d-pad barely navigates through the panels and the cursor, if you will, flies back and forth uncontrollably. I figured I'd set the camera up and change the sharpness, contrast, resolution, etc. Turn off the shutter sound whathaveyou and found the experience to be quite painful.

the only problem i have had so far is that when i plug in my headphones i get no sound but if i take them out the speakerphone plays the music....am pretty sure it is not my headphones but then again i can be wrong. fyi it does show an icon in the topbar indicating that my headphones are plugged in...sooo it could be my headphones but just wanting to check if anyone else had that problem. thanks.

Not something you or I can change. It's the way HTC programmed that particular application.

You guys have to keep in mind that I didn't program this ROM. I don't have control over every single application in it and how it behaves (and this isn't reffering to THIS instance, I'm talking in general). All a ROM cook does (that's me...) is put files together to form a ROM. So if you encounter a bug, or something doesn't work the way you want it to, there's not much I can but look into it to see if *I* did something wrong. Other than that... we're ALL s**t out of luck pretty much.

All a ROM cook does (that's me...) is put files together to form a ROM. So if you encounter a bug, or something doesn't work the way you want it to, there's not much I can but look into it to see if *I* did something wrong. Other than that... we're ALL s**t out of luck pretty much.

Just to clarify further, this isn't the HTC Photo Album. I can't get that thing to work. I'm just talking about hitting all photos from home, menu > folders > storage card. Open an image hit left to see the next one up and right to hit the previous...

I think that you have to enter to the forecast of HTC Weather -> go to menu -> options -> uncheck "Download weather data automatically"
That should do it

Hope it helped

I can't even find the main app for HTC weather, if its the weatherapp.exe then it's not opening.

Anyway... I looked into making one for the BJ and it's too difficult. There's no available "flasher" for it yet so that makes it impossible to upload a new ROM to it, even if I made one. So I'm not ignoring you, I'm talking to a few BJ 1 chefs to see what could be done...

I'm looking into incorporating it in the ROM. Microsoft also released new emulator images a few days ago, which seem to be newer than the current core this ROM is running on. I will probably be porting that over, so we have the newest and greatest. :p

Weird. Maybe something got screwed over during the install. It did freeze up right after the first cold boot and then navigating around seemed to have a slightly slower response to key strokes then the other roms did. Ill try installing it again tonight.

NRGZ28
18th November 2008, 05:44 PM
The very first time it boots up it's very slow. Give it a minute to "settle in" (technically to cache everything) then, start using it :) The next boot and all reboots after that should be much better. If you experience any freezing of menus, try opening Comm Manager first (immediately after a bootup).

I've flashed my phone with NRG's Rose 1.3 last weekend and it's been great so far. However, whenever I tried playing songs via Audio Manager (or even with Windows Media Player), no sound can be heard (via speakphone or via headset). I can see from the progress bar it is moving along, and I can assure you, the song is playable on my computer (the songs are in 256kbps)..

By the way, the speakers are indeed working when in-call, and it rings just like the old Kavana ROM I've had.

That's odd, I'm not seeing the BT issue that several have brought up, been running Rose for several weeks now...had a couple 60+ min BT conversations w/o seeing any out of the ordinary huge battery drain. Usually have my BT connected all day in the office as well with less battery drain than previous ROMS.

I've got the same weird battery reporting issues with my ATT Fuze and a stock ROM. There's no exact science in approximating battery life left... There's too many factors involved and battery age is probably the biggest. Don't forget that even if you bought it 4 months ago, who knows when it was manufactured before it reached your hands :)

p.s. There's no "two Rose ROMs"... there's only one. This one :) The other one is just this one + addons :)

I'm pretty sure my battery is reporting correctly, I have done some pretty good tests with the rose rom as far as battery life goes. I'm gretting really good life out of it (not using bluetooth or wifi though). I'm having better battery life over the latest kavana rom for sure. FYI The battery is a stock size battery, not extended.

I'm very happy with this rom, has everything I want/need and it runs very well. Keep up the good work NRG!

First, thank you for the ROM, I've had better luck with it than others.

This phone has been frustrating me to the point of not wanting to even take it out with me anymore. I experience freezing several times a day. It seems that sometimes if I want to send an MMS it will freeze the whole thing, causing me to have to remove the battery just to get it to boot up. The shortcut keys do this a lot too. Then, as I'm trying to get it to turn back on it will cold boot, erasing all of my photos, contacts, text messages, etc... Very frustrating. Anyone know if I'm just missing something? I'd hate to think that the phone is really just this buggy and unusable. Having to take it home and sync it with my computer so often seems wrong, it shouldn't work this way.

If not.. go back to your old radio. Nothing lost :) You dont even have to reflash your ROM or anything. Quick, painless procedure...

The commanager trick worked right away for me. I even reboot several times to see if it kept the config and it did. So it seems to be a one time thing and because of that I guess I'll let you keep the fancy commanager :), it's really cool.
How about the OMAP Clock not keeping changes after reboot? Can that be done?

Cheers

Hi NRG, I've been using v1.3 for a couple of weeks now. Everything works great, but the camera problem came back and I couldn't resolve with the commanager trick that worked last time. I remember that when I did it with v1.3 (I think) it worked ok, but now I did it several times with no luck. The issue was, in case you don't remember, that when you enter in Options on the camera, the soft keys and D-Pad become blocked and I can't navigate trough options.
Any ideas?
Thanks

P.S. I quoted the post when I solved the problem.

NRGZ28
28th November 2008, 02:19 AM
To be honest I dont know why it does that. It's a problem with all S740 based ROMs (regardless of the device it they were ported to). So... maybe someone smarter than me can come along and provide an explanation and a fix. I personally think it might have something to do with a DLL that handles some of the custom functions on those Menu's like (send to bluetooth recipient, or Send as Vcard... etc etc).

NRG! Great work on this ROM. I absolutely love it. One small thing though. Audio Manager doesn't have volume control on it or the up/down hotkeys. I can still control the volume using the joggr, but here are two reasons I hope will persuade you to include the volume control back in audio manager (or at least the hotkeys):

- In order to get the Joggr to control the volume on it, you have to set the joggr setting to volume control all the time. The setting that allows you to use the joggr as volume control in the music player and in calls only works in WMP and not Audio Manager. This means that anyone who wants to control the volume essentially loses scroll function of the joggr.

- The joggr volume control has only 5 positions and is not very fine tuned at all. The advantage of the up/down hotkeys in audio manager is that I can fine-tune the volume much better.

Thanks again so much for your hard work.

NRG - Great ROM. Looks so much more polished than the older 6.1 ROMs. Particularly love the new dialer. Keep up the great work.

For anyone like myself who likes the new "HTC Home" home screen, but likes a single noitification panel instead of 3 of them, here is a simple change to the XML for the home screen.

First connect your phone to your PC using ActiveSync.

In ActiveSync, click the [Explore] button.

Go to the "\Application Data\Home" folder

The file is called "HTCSlidingPanel.home.xml". Copy it over to your PC, and open it with a text editor.

Look for the line specifying the Plugins ...

<Plugins Order="CClock;CAppointments;CHome;HTCSMSMMS;HTCEMAIL;CWin dowsLive;HTCWeather;HTCFavorite;HTCMUSIC;CWelcomeC enter;Settings" CPRFileName="HTCSlidingPanel" SMSMMSOverride="true" EmailOverride="true" >

Note this has references to HTCSMSMMS - the panel for SMS and MMS notifications - and HTCEMAIL - the panel for EMAIL notifications.

In addition, at the end of the line you can see [SMSMMSOverride="true" EmailOverride="true"] - these are the flags to tell CHome not to display SMS/MMS/Email notifications in it's panel.

If you delete [HTCSMSMMS;HTCEMAIL;] and [SMSMMSOverride="true" EmailOverride="true"] then the CHome panel will display all the notifications as it does in the older Sliding Panel home screens.

My personal preference is also to have the Notifications above the Appointments on the home screen, so I reordered those. You can order then as you wish.

The Plugins line should now look like this ...

<Plugins Order="CClock;CHome;CAppointments;CWindowsLive;HTCFavorit e;HTCMUSIC;CWelcomeCenter;Settings" CPRFileName="HTCSlidingPanel" >

Save the file on the PC, then copy it back to the phone.

Hope this helps other beginner Home Screen Hackers like myself.

I think I found an easier way (just because I was not able to make your solution work, I think I missed something;) ) : it is enough to change [SMSMMSOverride="true" EmailOverride="true"] instead of "true" put "false, just leave everything else as it is, we will be able to hide the two panels (E-mail and SMS/MMS) from the CHome config. Hope this can help someone :D.
Anyway, thanks to LiverpoolFCfan to indicate the right xml file!

Yep
I usually have BT and Wifi turned off and use the phone regularly. By the end of the day I have 98% battery life left. I plug in and it completely charges in 15 minues but if I forget to plug in every night the battery dies mid morning the next day. Going from 85% to dead within 3 hours.

I've been bumming about my Dash's performance, but I finally invested some time last night and found this ROM. I've done various firmware things over the years, but I was very impressed with this work. Everything is fantastic (BT, Wifi, email, etc...) except for one thing:

My data connection doesn't work through my cell service.

Hi,

I want to view Thai characters on my Dash, so when I receive a text/email in Thai it shows words instead of rectangles. ;) Will this Rom view asian fonts? If not, can that be added? This is something I really need. I've seen tutorials for adding asian fonts to the stock install, but haven't tried it yet. I'm currently using the latest stock T-mobile 6.0 rom, and haven't taken the 6.1 leap yet. I want to though ... soon. :-)

Thanks for any help!

Sorry it took me so long to come up with a solution for this.. but attached in the second post you'll find a bluetooth stack patch that will adress the freezing menus issue and bt/wifi issues.

Try his new energyROM
MUCH MUCH better then this ROM, especially since this isn't the most recent Rose ROM, 1.4 is, or 1.7 if you want the remade version.

I had upgraded from a rose rom to the new energyrom, sadly after that, my wifi will not turn on...I have tried flashing to different roms, even back to the original t-mobile rom...I still have no wifi, tried the microWlan11g cab. I think its hopeless, because even flashing to this new rom which so far aside from the wifi is awesome, and creating and and copying the wifiInit.lnk still could not fix the issue.

Hello friends,

I'm trying to update the ROM on my T-mobile Dash c270 which came with the "rose 1.3"

The upgrade always for the 3%, saying it is corrupt. Somebody help me?

Another problem I have is the little amount of Total Storage: 58.11MB was where to get 128MB. The Total Memory: 43.56 when it was to get 64MB. What can be?

Sorry, but I found the answer. You could tell me exactly where she is?

This problem of lack of memory and disk space have occurred with someone else?

First part answered about 3% to be honest witthout knowing what ROM, whatz instaled etc then the answer is slim.
If you find it's a big issue hard-reset or update? ROM :)
