[ROM] NRGZ28's 'Rose' ROM Ver 1.3 [Nov 11th]

[NRGZ28]

Here's a new ROM for the Excalibur cooked on the new 20279 XIP core and the system partition from the newest HTC smartphone, the S740 "Rose".
This is a WWE (world wide English) only ROM.

Applications included in this ROM are:

- HTC Album
- Tegic T9 with all languages available.
- TMobile Dash keyboard layout file, default.
- Adobe Reader Le
- HTC Audio Manager
- Automatic GPRS settings application
- Windows Live
- Windows Live Messenger
- HTC Streaming Media
- Office Mobile
- HTC Weather
- The new HTC dialer application
- HTC CommManager
- This ROM is "UC" (user customization) capable!

This ROM includes the new sliding panels from HTC, which open up a world of opportunities for customization. So enjoy and please report any bugs.

INSTRUCTIONS for flashing:

1. Run the downloaded exe. It should automatically unpac and present a black command prompt window.

2. Make sure you remove your storage card from the phone before the next steps.

3 .Follow the instructions in the black window. Do NOT reboot when the SDA unlocker tells you to reboot the phone. It's not necessary.

4. You might get a prompt asking you if you want to run the spl program. Just say yes. At that point you should get a white screen.

5. If for any reason you're not seeing a white screen, you did something wrong and you need to try again.

6. Flash the ROM following the instructions in the flashing utility.

You can expect the phone to be "stuck" on the HTC logo for about 2 1/2 minutes the first time. After that, it should only take about 40-45 seconds for the phone to reboot.

INSTRUCTIONS for recovery in case something goes wrong:

Turn your phone completely off. Pushing the camera button in, plug in your usb cable. The tricolor, bootloader screen will come up and you can flash your regular OEM ROM which can be downloaded from one of the stickies.

I recommend flashing the modified bootloader made by jockeyw2001. It's attached to the next post.
What it does is, it CID unlocks your phone, so you don't have to use the softSPL everytime you want to flash a ROM. It also makes recovery from a bad flash much easier, where you dont have to hunt for your original manufacturer's ROM to load in order to resurect the phone.

Yeah, I guess that's universal bug amonst "chefs" that used this ROM base.., Sorry, that one's probably not gonna get fixed too soon. But I will remove it from the ROM for now to save space :)

Looks great, so I have been trying to install it but it's not working. It runs through the unlocker fine and then starts updating rom but shuts down after 3% or so indicating that "the image file is corrupted. Please check your update utility". What does this mean? How to solve it?

Read the instructions and make sure you run the jumpSPL program before you start flashing the ROM. The device should popup saying "Continue" right before the flashing utility comes up and you should get a white screen, not the tricolor screen.

Tryed last night soon as you update USPL, installs no hickups, looks the don and soon as iron out bugs this will be the ROM of choice.

Damn I can´t wait to get home to install it!! I´m sooo anxious. BTW NRG, I know it´s too early since you probably have a lot of work on fixing stuff, but if you plan on translate your ROM into other languages (if it´s doable of course) consider me to help you on the Spanish version.

I dont know what you're talking about with the application launcher, but you have to remember this is a STOCK OEM ROM, not your customized ROM you had before :) And I was able to remove the getting started panel just fine, by going to the last page and clicking "Remove Getting started" :) So I dont know what you're doing wrong...

I have not install the ROM, so I do not know if it has the CHome Configurator (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393104). If it does, use it to add your applications. If it does not, install it and add your applications.

Other than that I think it's really awesome ROM. I'm gonna wait installing my fav apps (Pocket Media Player, SmartToolkit) to see if you come to a solution on Windows Live issue.
Suggestion: Why isn't Rinku/NRG Iconbar embedded in the ROM. I think most of us have it installed and it's really cool.

Ok, I was dinking around with the ROM....nice and smooth.

Sorry if this is a bit off topic but figure it might help a few of us if we screw up with this.

Then I played the roll of idiot and hit the wrong back-up replacement from SPB, leaving me with no ability to connect to activesync.

So, here's my newbie question of the day. I can get to the tricolor bootloader screen per NRG's instructions but need to know how to reflash to either rose or rickwyatt's ROM at this point. Try running the updater but am getting the 270 error but right now have no way to get the app unlock on to my phone. Maybe I'm missing something but any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Update: 3rd Hard Reset got me back to 'rose' so I'm good.

Next time that happens and you're in the tricolor screen, go download one of the offficial ROMs for your device. Say you have a TMobile Dash for example, you'll go download the official TMobile US WM6 rom. Then you'll be able to flash your ROM and activesync. Then, you can flash back to rickys, kavana's or mine :)

It's not supposed to. I believe that panel is supposed to reflect what's playing in HTC's own Audio Manager. I believe there's a settings somewhere for it, but I dont recall where now....

Keep in mind with is ROM you can always revert to the microsoft sliding panels, by going to screen settings..... and have it look like does on Kavanas' :)

Say if you do add the Rinku bar into the ROM there will be a way to remove it right? I personally don't care for it. And thank you for making a new ROM i have been religiously checking the forums for new ROMs and anything interesting. Haven't had a chance to flash it yet but software suggestions.

That's just a simple registry entry you can do yourself. Search the forums for it...

Same here had to manually install, but if you have Resco or another file manager then make the file association to jbed. :)

Nice one it's actually pretty tweakable once you know what the .cpr is called and also can play with the panels and location of via the .xml, taken me a couple of hours today just to find things :)

Defo some kind of BT problem... Mine disapeard again soft-reset not sorting it.
Got it working by running BTTest.exe in the Window Dir untill reboot.
When i run BTTest i get:

One other thing I was wondering, would there be anyway to combine the notifications with the current home screen setup? I.E. instead of having a separate sliding panel for email/msg and one for call's missed/vm. Could we get it put into one panel for all four like Rick's ROM? Maybe there's already a way to do it and I missed it in the settings.

I just tried to upgrade from Ricky 24, and i followed instructions, and i got an error 260. (was on the tri color screen). but it didnt erase my previous install, so it didnt get very far.

as its early im hoping some things in rickys, or other tricks go into this:
-forgot how i got it, but when you scroll through the panels, the shrunk top panel (i.e. "tmobile time" at top when appointments panel is selected) is always at the top
-would prefer as someone else above posted, combining the missed calls, emails, txts like in rickys
-OMAP
-pocketplayer
-celetask
-the alarms section is different then rickys (only two alarms, no single screen to edit all teh alarms.
-the new panels (is cHome configurator still useful)

All you have to do is go to display settings and choose something else other than HTC Home. Try Sliding panels or Sliding panel media :) Then you'll see the "old" sliding panels you're familiar with.

I found a crazy bug on my German xda cosmo with your rom. The keyboard layout when uisng opera mini seems to be azerty or something similar. Any idea how to solve this?

Which files do i have to take from the German ROM to make the Keyboard work?

Well it's not really a "bug" since this is an English only ROM, to be used on regular keyboard S620's. I dont know exactly how to fix it, but I'm going to guess you're going to need eT9.Excalibur.XXXX.kmap.txt where XXX is the code for your language. 0409 is English for example....

2. when i was entering owner information, on the phone number part, 0 isnt set up properly and you must enter alt-0.

That's because the 0 key is the tab key in a word field. It's 0 in a number only field.. Not really a bug, and nothing I can do about it anyway.

hi nrg, I'll be on the lookout for more bugs in 1.1... great bug fixes in it already.

about the 0, as i've examined it further, its broken in other areas as well. (i.e. when entering a new contact phone number) it should default to the alt. numerals just as 1-9,+,-,(, and )

NRG, I've installed last version and so far it's working like a charm. Very nice addition with TopBar BTW. I've found two things: one is that OMAP doesn't keep the clock after reboot, and the other is that when the camera is on and try to set options, the soft keys become blocked.

Anyway, congratulations on this amazing ROM

NRG, I've installed last version and so far it's working like a charm. Very nice addition with TopBar BTW. I've found two things: one is that OMAP doesn't keep the clock after reboot, and the other is that when the camera is on and try to set options, the soft keys become blocked.

The commanager trick worked right away for me. I even reboot several times to see if it kept the config and it did. So it seems to be a one time thing and because of that I guess I'll let you keep the fancy commanager :), it's really cool.

I know... Omapclock isnt supposed to do that. It needs omapclockset and omapclockkeep (which ARE in the ROM, in \windows). Problem is, whenever I try to run omapclockset to set the frequency, it errors out. That's why I didnt put shortcuts to it in the start menu yet.. still working on a solution. BUt if you get a chance, run it yourself and see what happens. :)

i just installed ricky's 080408 rom, went to gprs, set t-mobile data to epc.tmobile.com (not using proxy) and internet worked just fine. i couldn't get that to work with this ROM.

I may have to flash back over to it and try again to see as well with 1.1a. I was able to get the 5.99 t-zones proxy to work with the first Rose rom . If I come up with a different result than you on 1.1a, I'll let you know.

A little bit annoying that SD memory can't be used with 1.1a. If you try to insert a 4, 6 or 8 GB SDHC into your device it will not be detected. I think a lot of people still love to use their microSD with this great build.

I'm really liking the sound of this ROM. When you say WM5 Storage, what do you mean? My gf has a 2GB microSD card. No, it's not High Capacity. Will the phone see it with this ROM installed?

Also neither of us use Outlook but have "Outlook" contacts and SIM contacts on our phones. I would love to back these up before flashing. I might be using her phone as a guinea pig and want to at least keep her contacts. So any recommendations on back up programs? Maybe there's something out there or here on these forums that will allow me to easily back up the contacts? Maybe more as well?

Guys where some of you had issues with your keyboard layouts & the "sym" for symbols key not working do not despair, I almost went back to another ROM but ... I "think" it's just an international keyboard layout problem. I could find no setting to change but ...

Elsewhere on this site I found & installed the UK version of the "et9FULL.cab" file & installed that on the device, now my keyboard layout is back to what a UK Excalibur should be, so just a small fix we can do ourselves.

Not sure why it's not right @ start, int he device in the Rose Rom seems to be all the different layouts just no way of selecting which you use (as with Ricky's ROM) ... Anyway it's frustrating at first but so easily fixed :)

I removed the Audio Booster because it doesn't work with our phones. I read that the Excalibur doesn't have a hardware equalizer and only the S740 does :)

WM5torage is just a utility to make your phone an external "usb key". Try it in the accesories folder, after you install the ROM. As far as backing it all up, I dont know... my contacts are always backed up to my Exchange folder so I've never had to do that. Try moving all your Outlook contacts to your SIM, that way they're all on the SIM and will stay on the SIM even when you change ROMs... :)

I've noticed that if you open commmanager first, the right menu softkeys as well as the WelcomeCenter work fine after that. I still dont have a definite fix for this...

As far as Ricky's being more stable, I'm sure it was just a coincidence. His ROM is my ROM... with a few additions :)

Create a text file on your phone or your computer with the following line

Save it as WifiInit.lnk and copy it in the Windows\Startup folder, reboot your phone and you should be able to use wifi now

Just downloaded the latest, very very nice! I only found one thing odd so far- when you go into the photo album it wont let you select anything but just the first photo (it keeps pulling back to it like it is thinking) so I went into file explorer and there are 2 pics that are flickering! I cut and pasted them to another folder and now the album works properly. I am not sure what thats about! I tried to put them back in and they start flickering again

The files are "pond" and "BG"

btw, I should mention this is in the "camera album", not the picture viewer.

First time in, it starts flashing just one pic, looks like it is trying to load the album but cant. You can click on it and it goes to the slideshow view, but then it exits the program. Going back in, the album is populated- but the pic is flashing. If I back out and go into the regular pic program they all seem fine.

This was after reloading the first excal, I haven't gotten home to try the second one yet.

fn q is not a ! but an %, fn n is not a @ but an & and further....

What's the problem with mine S620 it because I'm from Holland and I use the dutch region? But wen I set the regio to English it makes no difference? Help??

Just updated to 6.1 now my keys on my dash do not correspond to the letters on the button... has this be asked before... i need help getting them back to match the letter buttons...

the rom is based around the Dash keyboard I believe, so you will need a proper keymap for your layout and preferences. I do not know if any are built in or how that works, I just know that the Dash owners always fought that same thing when the Kavana and Ricky roms were hot. I didnt save any of the keymaps that I dont use, but I am sure others have one they can post up for your version and language. Once you have it you can just drop it in the folder and reboot to change the keymap.

For example, our "Fn+Q" IS a "%" and our "Fn+N" is "&"

NRG, installed 1.2 last night and it is way more stable. Really good work.

I have found one issue though. The HTCEmail panel works fine for WindowsLive Mail, works fine for GMAIL(imap) however, for my pop3 account
it shows each new message twice on the plugin and after I read the message one of the 2 messages goes away however the other one is still there and there is no way to remove it other than deleting the message or rebooting the phone. I hope you can fix it. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

For anyone like myself who likes the new "HTC Home" home screen, but likes a single noitification panel instead of 3 of them, here is a simple change to the XML for the home screen.

First connect your phone to your PC using ActiveSync.

In ActiveSync, click the [Explore] button.

Go to the "\Application Data\Home" folder

The file is called "HTCSlidingPanel.home.xml". Copy it over to your PC, and open it with a text editor.

Look for the line specifying the Plugins ...

<Plugins Order="CClock;CAppointments;CHome;HTCSMSMMS;HTCEMAIL;CWin dowsLive;HTCWeather;HTCFavorite;HTCMUSIC;CWelcomeC enter;Settings" CPRFileName="HTCSlidingPanel" SMSMMSOverride="true" EmailOverride="true" >


Note this has references to HTCSMSMMS - the panel for SMS and MMS notifications - and HTCEMAIL - the panel for EMAIL notifications.

In addition, at the end of the line you can see [SMSMMSOverride="true" EmailOverride="true"] - these are the flags to tell CHome not to display SMS/MMS/Email notifications in it's panel.

If you delete [HTCSMSMMS;HTCEMAIL;] and [SMSMMSOverride="true" EmailOverride="true"] then the CHome panel will display all the notifications as it does in the older Sliding Panel home screens.

My personal preference is also to have the Notifications above the Appointments on the home screen, so I reordered those. You can order then as you wish.

The Plugins line should now look like this ...

In kavana's ROM, under Settings>Connections>Bluetooth, there is a 3rd selection for FTP that is missing as well. Perhaps this was a kavana customization?

About the shortcut button to Celetask on the 1.2 ROM, is it possible to disable it and have it link to internet explorer instead? I much prefer direct access to IE like the 1.0 ROM, and just access the built in task manager from the power button. Is there a registry setting to change?

sounds like a battery issue, those were symptom i experience till one day my battery just wouldnt stay on for more than 30 mins without shutting off. i had to litterally make calls with it plugged in all the time for a couple of days... till i got... my great new lovable cuddly insane 2200mah extended life battery! thank you ebay :D

Maybe someone can help me out on this.... just started running Opera Mini 4.1 on here....made sure to download the correct version for the phone but it's not reading the keypad correctly...it's reading it as if this is a standard phone keypad (IE 6=mno, etc) instead of a full qwerty. I know there was a fix for this way back when with past roms but I'm struggling trying to find it by search.

keymap works correctly for everything else on phone. Any ideas?

Activesync, (make sure you can see hidden files on your pc) go to:
Explore>My Windows Mobile-Based Device>Windows
and find "short_IE". Copy it to your desktop, and open with notepad. Change the line to read:
"36#"\windows\iexplore.exe"" and save it. Copy and paste it back into the phone. Reboot and you should be good to go.

But umm a couple of things i've found: in microsoft office there is no ability to create new documents, this was available in Kavana's ROM
Also would it be possible to include Microsoft voice command, it is sorelly missed tnx, n agen great job

I vote for the Vanilla one, but also to keep improving and adding stuff to this one, it's getting awesome and I do like it, but I think that every ROM should have a Vanilla version for those who want to start clean IMHO

Do you have any sites that provide mobile videos so I can test the media player ?

The fact that you cant install certain apps is certainly not a "bug". Try loading the Rogers WM6 ROM, they dont let you install ANYTHING! LOL BUt I will look into it... Can you provide me with an example ?

This ROM is mainly built for the TMobile Dash (the american version). To get it to work with the UK version, you have to download a new keyboard map file. Again, this is not a "bug".

Windows Live isn't showed on the screen by default. I don't care for Windows Live :) Use the Chome Configurator app to enable the panel.

I cant get the Camera Album to replicate that behavior... can you explain a little more ? Thanks.

I haven't tested the media player in 1.2 but have exhibited the same issue with the camera album, I'll try to explain the behavior a little further with what I am seeing.

When in the Camera album's main view, if I use the d-pad for navigation to any of the photos showing in the album, the moment I let go of the d-pad, the highlighter immediately reverts to the first photo (as shown in your thumbnails of the ROM). It does not allow me to keep any other photo highlighted.

I flashed this rom today. Runs great, and smooth.

1. I get the same Camera Album issue others are getting, where the first picture flickers. It went away after I ejected teh sd card, then put it back in. But the problem I have now is that it keeps reverting the "selector" back to the first picture. I think this may be happening while it's still loading all of the pictures? (using the most current version, downloaded today. Nov 6 version/1.2)

2. I had a pleasant surprise when I tried a song from napster2go (drm2) and it worked. Of course this works on the official ROMs (wm10 and all), but it would never worked for me on the kavana ROM (tried several versions)

the problems listed above by others are the same problem I was having in the camera album. The first pic keeps flashing and thats the one that is highlighted by the dpad (this is what he means by the cursor, its the item that is selected) and whenever it flashes (2 times a second LOL) it pulls back the selection. I think if he was to delete the 2 pics that I did the problem would disappear. I have not noticed the windows file flickering, but that is the same effect I get on those 2 pics.

verified on my other excalibur as well BTW. Its not a big deal for me, I just deleted the files and it was all good- just trying to make things easier!

By cursor I meant the darkened bar that indicates what you are selecting.

I just noticed that it is not doing it at the moment. I have since performed a clear storage, connection setup and a re-sync with ActiveSync.

I was looking at the running processes and was wondering what HTCActivityLogExe.exe is for and how to disable it if it's unnecessary?

And, how do I stop the WeatherApp.exe and WeatherUpdateService.exe from automatically starting every time I boot the phone? I turned off automatic updating as described earlier.

To those using the latest and having the flickering pics, try deleting "pond" and "BG" from the pics folder (I did if on the phone, not via activesync) and see if it still has the flickering problem (it fixed my problem of refreshing the first pic as well)

I am trying this now.. a few quick observations:
- I prefer a clean optimized version
- Weather app to have some control to not load it always
- control on preventing loading of HTC activity logger
- OMAP clock settings should stick after reboots

will keep give this ROM a spin and note issues, if any.

I found the weather app and activity logger. Go to HKCU\Software\HTC\Bootlauncher\HTCSlidingPanel and delete the value referencing the weather app. When you reboot, WeatherApp.exe, WeatherUpdateService.exe and HTCActivityLog.exe no longer load. Apparently they are all part of the weather app.

what do you mean by "working"? If the keymap is wrong you will simply need to change it, the same way the Dash people needed to change Ricky's and Kavana's
